The good: -open late (2am every day, even sundays!) -free wifi -free drink with a lunch entree -fairly extensive menu with various flavors right next to the Dunvale AMC, so you can hop on in for some refreshment right after getting out of a movie with your date -pool tables! The mediocre: -Many of the cream blend drinks are made with flavored sugar, not real ingredients (I guess this is standard, but I rebel all the same... star snow ice has seriously spoiled me. though i do see fresh avocado and mango sitting there so there must be some exceptions) -Loud teenage crowd. there were some super obnoxious girls screaming like banshees over by the pool tables, and I was really tempted to shoot boba at them through my straw. The really bad: -On the posted menu it says drinks start at 2.99, depending on tea/cream blend/other types of drink, plus sinkers... however, it's not clearly spelled out what the difference between the types of drinks actually IS. I suspect it boils down to not wanting to reprint a sign to account for inflation/sudden price changes. So yeah, it gives them flexibility. Neat little place near the AMC 30 that's open late and a fun place to hang out before or after movies. Like others have said, the average drink price is $5. There are probably plenty of cheaper places for bubble tea but the location isn't terrible. They have a huge selection of drinks to choose from as well as a tiny food menu that I haven't tried yet. So let me start by saying that I am not a fan of bubble tea, or tapioca in general, so if you are a bubble tea purist, this might not be for you. I've been to Happy Tea House several times, and to me it's really...well...average. It's more like Whatever Tea House than Happy Tea House. The teas are fine, maybe a little more expensive than other places, and the food is...well, it's ok, but the service is where things really go down hill. They just really don't seem to care at all. Like they are just killing time and waiting on you because they have to. No wonder there were only a few coins in the tip jar. I keep giving this place a chance but it never satisfies. My boyfriend and I have been here a few times, mostly because the location was convenient for where he had to be for work. However, every time we have gone to this place it seems like the bubble tea keeps getting worse and worse. We've had a variety of drinks from green tea to milk tea to smoothies. All of the teas tasted too sweet and water downed. The only OK drink I've had here was the avocado smoothie. Even then, it wasn't good enough to come back. There is one good thing about this place: the atmosphere. There are plenty of tables to do work and three sets of couches to hang out as well. The decor is nice and interesting too. I'm only giving this place 2 stars because of their space and offering of air hockey and board games to keep you occupied and entertained. Otherwise, this place is bunk. I walked in and this place was FREEZING. Everyone in the establishment, even the workers, were wearing their coats and bundled up. I mentioned the temperature to the counter attendant and they just responded with indifference and mentioned that it was programmed this way. Great response. Thanks. Now, how about you do something about. Sheesh. The second incident was when I discovered my buddy had ordered a hot lemon green tea which sounded delicious to me, so I requested to have my hot green tea to be a lemon hot green tea. I figured a squeeze or two of lemon would work fine. I went to the counter and made my simple request, only to have my request received like a huge inconvenience. The counter attendant went to the back and asked the manager if that was ok. Seriously?! It's a squeeze of lemon!! After a minute or so to discuss, the attendant returned from the back and said, "Ok, we'll do it for you." Seriously?!?! Was it really THAT much of an inconvenience?? Which I actually did say to the attendant and he replied that they were considering about charging me for the lemon. Holy effing shit! Seriously?! Another observation was that their wifi didn't work properly. I kept getting connected to Pot Belly's wifi. And, it wasn't just my computer that was doing this. If I had known this place was as bunk as it is, I would've gone for the board games one hot summer day and saved my need for good food, warmth, and a place to do work for another place worthy of my hard earned dollars. Happy Tea House is more like a sad, broke, and cold tea house establishment and I'm referring more to their management/staff than the place it self. My advice to "Happy Tea House", treat your customers well and you'll have steady business otherwise, you'll have people like me who will tell ALL their friends how much your place is bunk. Now, I may give it a second chance and return when it gets hot outside, assuming you still like to keep things cold but really I'm expecting this place to be cheap and will keep this places temperature as high as it can possibly get away with to save money. read more

Looks like they redid this place since I last visited. They got new chairs and added more glass dining tables so they probably have 15 tables now. They also added 4 more sofas. The most annoying thing is that the menu doesn't have prices. The prices on the drinks are still high. They are about $0.50 to a $1 more then Teahouse on Kirby near River Oaks, which doesn't make sense. I like coming here late because they close at 2AM and it's a closer drive for me then the Teahouse. Their honeydew tea with tapioca is great. But their champaign grape slurpy is too sweet for my taste. Service was alright. They have a lot of decoration in Mandarin Chinese. Finally- a tapioca place that serves a decent red bean drink! After tasting many disappointing, watery red bean tapioca drinks, I was ready to give up. The red bean-cream tapioca drink here, however, caught my eye. I ordered it. The color was a glorious red, slightly pink color. It looked fairly thick, and they filled the cup up to the brim. The black tapioca balls peeked out at the bottom. These were all good signs. I took the first sip and was in heaven. The taste of the sweet red beans was prominent, and the tapioca balls were fresh and chewy instead of stale. The reason I'm docking off a star is because they don't post prices here! It's a guessing game, which is really odd. The prices of the drinks are all fairly low though, but it's still unnerving not knowing what the final bill will be. They have happy hour here from 5-9, I believe. If you buy 2 drinks, you get a 3rd for free! It's a great bargain if you're coming here with friends- maybe you can snag the free one yourself. =) read more

I came here because Comcast was being annoying and not installing internet at my residence. I was also tired of paying $8/day for access at Starbucks. So I stumbled upon Happy Teahouse. I'm glad I did. The layout is pretty cool. There are a bunch of tables and there are four outlets at each. There is free Wi-fi, which was awesome for me. They have a lot of board games, as well as a fooseball and pool table. During the day, it's pretty quiet and a good place to get some work done. When evening rolls around, it tends to get a little bit more crowded. More people come to just hang out and play games. The food isn't that great. The fried rice tasted pretty strange. But the chicken nuggets w/ fries are a decent snack. The drinks are really good. I've tried about half their menu, and I've liked everything. The Coconut Cream Shake is good, as well as their Passion Fruit Green Tea. The Mocha Ice Cream is worth a try as well. The drinks run a bit on the expensive side, but they're a little bigger than other teahouses. All in all, I definitely recommend the place. I'm planning on going there from time to time to get some work done, even though Comcast has finally given me internet at home. read more

The drinks are really good. I like the green tea with rainbow jelly AND tapioca!! It's so refreshing. The smoothies are good too. Mango is always my go to flavor...as is Strawberry Lime. I was excited to try their new menu item: Banh Mi!! These are very good. BBQ pork was awesome!! I also reccomend the dumplings.....i always regret not ordering 2 of them. Chicken wings are also very delicious!! I get them with rice instead of fries (lol guess that's the asian in me)! I study here alot. It can get busy and loud in the evening so that's a warning for those who need quiet to study. I'd say the quality of the drinks at Happy Tea House are a bit lower than satisfactory. I've been a handful of times and I think i've been un"happy" about something. Doesn't really coincide with its name. The tables are too close in proximity and it is by far not my idea of a great place to study. All i hear when i'm there is the sound of that overbearing blender. Yes, i have tried to study here before and yes, it's distracting. It's a better place to just chat and catch up and play pool? There are like two tables. Not only is the food menu limited, but it is also not stimulating to my taste buds which is surprising since the decorations are overly stimulating to my eyes. Avoid yourself the rice dishes because they soggy and bland. The other food menu options are to say the nicest, tolerable. There are a myriad of options for drinks, BUT quantity does not make quality. I usually order the Thai tea, and even that isn't consistently good. You'd think right? Happy Teahouse Cafe is an extremely diverse place. I go to this place for an alternative "Starbucks feel"; they GREAT tea, smoothies, slurpies and outlets built into the floor around all of the tables for people to plug in their computers, phones, and other electronics. They also have pool tables and board games for those who kinda just wanna lounge around and hang out. Something I also like about this place is that it is extremely diverse. I order the Coconut Cream Blend (almost every time) and another favorite of mines and friends I've brought here would be the Strawberry Banana smoothie (Can't go wrong with this one). BEWARE because this place can get overly crowded towards the evening for those who like to avoid crowds CONS: I didn't mention their food menu which is the reason i only gave it 3 stars. They actually have a happy hour MONDAY-FRIDAY from 10-3. You can order any food idea for $6 or more and receive a free drink. It's actually a pretty great deal but the food in my opinion is disgusting and odd, but I definitely recommend at least giving one of their delicious drinks a try. PS. They have wifi but the password changes everyday. You can only receive the password when you purchase from their menu. read more

It appears that the prices change frequently.Second, the ingredients in the drinks are not fresh and artificial and had a funny taste . I can't believe this place isn't packed all the time. It's easy on the wallet with lunch specials and buy one get one free drinks before 5pm on weekdays. And if you're looking for a place to get in on some wifi you can't really do better than this. Lots of seats and every table has an electrical outlet in the floor, so you're never vying for one with another customer. Just bring a mousepad or a magazine or something if you want to use an optical mouse because their tables are all glass. They've also got leather couches, pool tables, board games and a foosball table. It's decorated really stylishly too with track lighting, red walls, and lots of Chinese stuff. You can tell it's not some homogenized, mass produced chain store layout. It's like someone decorated it themselves, but they did a really good job, they stayed very consistent with the theme they were going for. I don't really care for the music they play there (the radio is on 104), but it's not so loud that I can hear it over my headphones. The wait time for your drink is virtually non existent, and while the staff is certainly not rude, they're not super friendly either. But so what? They're there to make and sell you drinks, not to be your friend. I love this place and I'm here all the time. read more

The blended/frozen (crushed ice as opposed to iced) Mocha Coffee with Tapioca is amazing! They said they make it with non-dairy cream which as far as I could tell (me being lactose-intolerant) was true. The beef and broccoli is alright. The beef tastes like it was frozen or something. With the fuseball and pool tables, it looks like a really fun place to go with friends. But if they're charging $10 an hour for a table, then I probably wouldn't go there for that. Not a bad place to study and get homework done. Especially since this is the only tapioca place in town (that I know of, at least) that's open til 2am on weekdays and 4am on weekends. It sucks that sometimes, you're not guaranteed a table given the many other people in town that come here to study or hang out late at night. I think Happy Teahouse takes advantage of how many people come in there late at night for their tapioca fix because their drinks range from $4-5 each. And they're really not all that great. A huge majority of them, especially their milk tea, just tastes like watered down milk with a hint of tea. No bueno. Their fruity drinks (slushies, smoothies, etc.) seem a bit too sweet for my taste as well. But since you can't just walk in there and use their wifi to get homework or whatever done, you gotta buy something. I recommend getting some sort of food since they come in relatively big portions. So at least you get your money's worth when it comes to food; like their chicken tender or fried shrimp basket (each comes with fries), which I find to be pretty good. Ask for some of their chili hot sauce and mix it in with ketchup and you're good to go. As for a drink, I'll just stick with a bottle of water. Yeah, I find it that bad that I'm gonna drink water at a tapioca place. The people who take and give you your orders are decent, but not outstanding. They at least make your order correctly and when you ask for something, they'll promptly go and get it for you. This place also has pool tables, a foosball table, and an air hockey table as well so it wouldn't be a bad place to play a few games after drinking at a club/bar or something. But this place is supposed to be known for their tapioca drinks, which I don't find to be the case at all. They seem to be more known for their food and ambiance. I went to Happy Tea House Friday. There were several people dining, studying, surfing the net, playing pool, and just chilling watching House on the TV's in the nice Asian themed ambiance. I was surprised how quiet it was given the relaxed environment & variety of parties there. I really think this place is cool for anyone looking for a Starbucks type atmosphere with more space. Or for anyone looking for a place to relax with friends, and play a game of pool or cards. I only saw one person there under 18 with their parent so it was still quiet enough for the few people studying there or enjoy a romantic/chill date night, which is why my hubby & I stopped in. OK, so now the menu: I LOVE the drinks there. I ordered the Pinapple Slushy type drink. They also have a cream blend and teas for all flavors with sinkers. The combination fried rice included Beef strips, chicken and shrimp over a bed of sauteed rice, carrots, peas and green beans. It was a very large serving (for $8) which took my husband and I 3 days to finish. My husband ordered the Vietnamese sandwich for $4. It consisted of a sub-type bun with barbequed pork, fresh cilantro, carrots & jalapenos. We also ordered a slice of the cheesecake (strawberry & chocolate). It was tasty. I highly recommend this place for the atmosphere, I can't do the same for the food but it was tasty enough for the decent price & free 3 hour wi-fi access you receive when ordering anything off the menu. read more
