First I want to say that I drive every six weeks or so from Santa Barbara just to get my hair done by Penny (the owner). Everyone is very nice there and I love the fun atmosphere. But let's get real - if my hair didn't look so good when she cut it the atmosphere would make no difference. It's a bonus! My hair looks great. I have been seeing her for the past 15 years and she is not only my stylist, she has become my friend. She did my hair for my wedding as well as my makeup and my mothers hair - my mom was thrilled. The receptionist, and the other stylists, manicurist are all very friendly all of the work done the other stylists is beautiful, and if Pam were ever away for an extended time, I would be very comfortable having any of them do my cut or color. I followed Penny at Salon Panache from Maximillians many years ago. She always accommodates my input patiently and accurately, no easy feat for a hair stylist. One of the things I like about this salon is the atmosphere. It feels like a bustling social center, a place for women (and a few men) to connect with each other. A complete change, after being at work all day! One of the things I appreciate is that the salon has a "no small children" policy. As much as I love children, I have seen at other salons in the past that moms are unable to supervise their kids when they are in the middle of beauty services, so they can be loud and disruptive if not closely engaged by a parent. I think it's a good policy and appreciate everyone's efforts to make the salon a comfortable place to be. read more

I do love this Salon and the staff. Penny has NEVER messed my hair up either in cut or color. She is the best colorist I have ever used. I have always recieved compliments on the coloring and cut. Especially the color. Even from photographers. Total strangers have asked me for referrals which I gladly supply. And the staff has always been very friendly bringing coffee or water with fruit in it. I feel very pampered and taken care of and never leave feeling bad. I'm not sure why other people seem to have different experiences because mine have always been great. All I can say is give them a try and you can decide for yourself. I have been going to Jeanine, one of the owners, for many years. While I live in another city, I continue to go to her because she is a wizard with color. Nobody ever guesses that my hair is colored because it looks so natural. She respects my need for length and when I ask for an inch to be taken off, that all she cuts. Because I don't like to fuss with my hair alot, a true test for me is how my hair looks the next day, next week(s). I don't ever have to worry if my hair will maintains its color and shape. I love this salon and my hairdresser, Jeanine. I am in every three weeks for color and every six to eight weeks for straightening and have never been happier with the way my hair looks. I am so glad to have found Jeanine. When I read the negative review regarding bringing a toddler into the salon I thought I would never bring my kids into the salon for the simple fact it is dangerous. So I went here for an eyebrow wax and color. Lip wax. Underpits wax and toes waxed. The woman was nice but not very good at her job!! She died my eyebrows fire engine red!! They looked horrible for more than a month!! When she waxed my underpits she went against the hair growth and left me with bleeding sores under my arms which took weeks to heal!! And the skin on my lips was so raw after the wax that I have to go get ointment to heal it!! I will never go back to this salon! To top it off it cost $50.00 for all that and I found out from a friend that she gets the same treatments at a different salon and it only runs her between $15-$20!! It was just a horrible experience and I will never be returning! read more

Dina is amazing! She knows what she's doing and she listens to what you want. And finally, someone who knows how to cut curly hair. I used to chop at my own ends, or just not get my hair cut at all (for years) because I could not find anyone who could cut curly hair. They would say they could, and all of a sudden, I would have hair up next to my ears, when it had been near my waist. Since I've found Dina, I've gotten three haircuts in the past year! I'm giving this salon 3 stars because our stylist that we love is here and we are always very happy with the outcome of our hair. However, today I brought my teenage daughter to have her hair done and I was left with some mixed feelings. I had brought my toddler in with me to drop off my older girl, so I could ensure that she safely made it to the styling chair. When we walked in, I got a couple of glares from other stylists that was making me feel a bit uncomfortable. After being there for 5 or so minutes, a woman approached me to find out who we were waiting for/who had the appt. I explained that it was for my teenage daughter and then the woman let me know that they have a "No small children" Policy. Which is totally understandable. I let her know that we were just making sure my older kid made it in ok and that we had planned on leaving. Her response to me was "I just wanted to make that clear to you" which I felt was a bit rude considering I had just stated we were leaving. I felt like it could have been handled in a less snobby manner. The whole thing made me feel very unwelcomed. Will I go back? Yes, because our stylist is there and we'll follow her anywhere but should she ever leave, I wouldnt bat an eyelash at Salon Panache ever again! When you're spending your hard earned money somewhere, you want to feel like you're valued and not like a criminal for bringing your toddler in! read more

If you're from out of town I wouldn't recommend this salon. Very seldom do they have an apt available for walk-in's. They also don't seem like a happy bunch of folks that work there. The lady who I think is the owner is very negative and talks about her customers to other hair dressers while her customer is still sitting in her chair. Just not a good place. I was referred to Elena at Salon Panache when my hairstylist moved from the area. At first it was hard to think of someone new being able to help me with my "problem" hair. I'm in my 60's with thin-fine- used to be frizzy-colored hair. But, since I've been going to Elena I no longer think of my hair as a problem, in fact, I enjoy it! My husband says it looks the healthiest it ever has. I read the other reviews, and I wanted to say that Elena is not just great with curly hair but with any kind of hair.
