Harbor Freight does not value customers. They don't value their effort, their time, their lives. They only value you money. Harbor Freight just sells to many items that end up being recalled, or break without a recall. In the end, is your life worth a few bucks? This update is in response to HFT selling defective Jack Stands, and when caught by the NHSA and forced into a recall, their response was completely and totally inadequate. It actually cost customers money on base price, price with discount, non-coverage of shipping (above and beyond base price losses), and no consideration for having put your life at risk by selling sub-standard unsafe products. This comes from the top at HFT, the president has that same "fake" smarmy email attitude, but its really all about maximizing profits at any cost, including the safety of customers. I've had three items recalled, and another 4 separate items that should have been recalled from this store, that's in 5 years. That is 3x the whole of my entire life, at everyone other place I have ever shopped, in 55 years of life. That level of product shoddiness is not acceptable. But even worse, is HFT response when they get caught selling such unsafe crap, at levels so common and unsafe that the government actually requires a recall. This last time, HFT sold unsafe jack stands, if they slips when you are under the vehicle, you're dead. Their approach, refund what you paid (5 years ago). Then charge FULL price for today's stand, with a 20% coupon (not as good as the old discounts). So, you are out CASH, you are OUT GAS money, you are WORKING FOR THEM FOR FREE, to do delivery and pickup, to solve THEIR FOISTING AND SALE of sub-standard, unsafe, life-threatening tools. Eric Smidt should be ashamed of himself, but alas, if HFT's written communications (all approved by him) are any indication, HE COULD CARE LESS about his customer's lives. read more

This review is based on horrible customer service rather than products. For products I'd give it 4 starts based on the prices. I had one of the worst experiences here with one of their employees. I was returning a broken item in which the cost of the item was $19 and some change. They were out of the item and they refused to give me the floor model because in essence he said it was too much work for him to take it apart and give it to me. It would have taken 5 min or less but the store was so empty, that I was probably taking away time from his precious angry bird session or something. So anyway, I thought if he's too lazy to help a customer then I just want my money back. Since I would be getting back $19 for the item, I offered to give him $1 so I would get a back a 20 because he was out of change in the drawer. Apparently he did not pass 3rd grade math because he said if he gave me back 20 his drawer would be off. I asked him to explain his reasoning and he said it just would..? I told him "here take this 1 dollar and give me a 20" and he said "no, I'm not an atm." Really? He called someone to bring him change and then began to rudely count out the $19 and gave it to me. Instead of making everyone's life easier by just taking my dollar, he opted to not only be lazy but to be a douche bag on top. I forget his name, I think he said Chris or David, but anyway he said he was the lead cashier. That's funny, a LEAD cashier who doesn't know basic math. So anyway I asked to speak to a manager and he said "go ahead she's over there." So I talked to the "manager" to let her know of the poor customer service and she looked like she could care less. And to be honest I don't even know if she was a manager or just the cleaning lady. Great job harbor for hiring quality people. read more

Harbor Freight is great to come to for what I would call "disposable" tools. That's not such a bad thing though. Most if their tools don't compare, in quality, to more expensive brands like Craftsman, Snap On, Dewalt, etc. However, where they make up for it is in price. I buy things here such as drills, DA sanders, tarps, etc. These items are cheaper than.other places, so I never expect them to ever last as long. But for what you pay, they will get the job done, at least for a good while. Theirs are the tools that are perfect for the non-contractor. Perfect for the home handyman that needs to do projects around the house. One place they excel is in carrying to odd stuff. I needed a kit to remove the power steering pulley on my '70 Mustang, and they have a pulley puller kit, and cheap. Sure, I may only use it once or twice in several years, but for the price, its hard to beat. If you want the kind of tools you'll own for life and want to spend the money, go to Sears, Snap On, etc. If you want a decent tool, cheap, to get the job done now, HF is the place to go. read more

I had a major beef with an extremely unprofessional situation from one of the supervisors at this location. I don't want to go into the situation cause I get pissed thinking about it. What I do want to talk about is how the manager, Kevin McCormick handled it. Kevin was understanding and quickly diffused the situation. Amazing job and I will continue to shop there!! read more

I purchased a Portland chainsaw a while back, (over 90 days) but never got the chance to use it. Having heard about a recall of the chainsaw two weeks ago, I tried to get a credit or refund back to the card it was purchased with. However, the sales associate would not budge, and proceeded to argue with me in front of customers. He offered a "gift card" in lieu of a refund, so being the only option I exercised it. I believe however, a product that is defective should be refunded regardless of the original date of purchase. Especially if it is a safety issue. Are you sure you want to lose a potential lifetime customer, to satisfy the ego of a sales clerk? A gift card will not do in this situation, if I am not sure of what I will be needing in the next 6 months or a year. I bought the chainsaw because I needed a chainsaw. When I returned it, there were none in inventory to replace it. I don't want to buy $50.00 worth of zip ties because they're only things I need at the moment... And I sure the hell don't like being forced to buy more of their crap because the refund option "expired". Broke is broke, and garbage is still garbage. read more

I have been to Harbor Freight many times before and know what to expect out of the tools. This is not my issue. I went to cash out and stood in line behind a customer that was being cashed out. There was a second register open with one customer waiting as well. While waiting, the employee at the register I was at very rudely told me there was one line and nothing else. When she finished with her current customer I stepped up to pay. At this point, she turned, walked away and very rudely said "I told you there was one line, I'm closed." I was taken aback but moved to the other line. The customer in front of me asked what happened and I told him. At this point, the male cashier spoke up to, I guess correct me, and said "she told you there was one line. You should've listened." This was loud enough for the whole front of the store to hear. At this point, I was so frustrated that I put my purchase down and proceeded to exit the store. In my anger, I said something I shouldn't have along the lines of "this is bullshit and i'm spending my money elsewhere" and I apologize. However, the male cashier wasn't finished. He then raised his voice even louder and proceeded to get very confrontational with me. Asking me what I said and told me to come say it to his face. This is all while customers are very present. I have never felt so mistreated by a company and I really hope this strikes home to management. I will never spend another penny at Harbor Freight Tools. read more

I bought a Central Pneumatic 2.5 HP 21 Gal Air Compressor from Harbor freight a couple of years ago. I use the compressor very intermittently so it hasn't had much use. It suddenly developed a problem where it would slowly turn over the compression piston a few times and then the safety breaker would pop off. I shared my suspicion with the Harbor Freight that the capacitor (starter) was bad and they agreed. So I purchased a new capacitor and installed it. No luck. Still the same problem. The only other thing it can be is the electric motor. So naturally I opened up the machine and pulled the motor. I then called Harbor Freight for a replacement motor. Guess what? The reply I got was; "the part that you need is not available as a replacement part from Harbor Freight Tools" So basically I now have a $180 boat anchor. I understand machines can go bad, but not having something as basic as the electric motor available? Oh they did give me one last piece of advice. "You can contact a local repair professional regarding possible repair solutions for your compressor." Sure I can, at price that is probably more than the original cost of the compressor. No more Harbor Freight for me! read more
