We arrived a hair after 7pm on a Friday. It's Wisconsin, so, we came here for 1 reason... 2 if you…read morecount the apple pasty I forgot to get to go... FISH Sadly, they were already out if bluegill, which was my planned order- i panic ordered perch. I should have gotten cod. Fish have bones & you're bound to find a few - but I'm pretty sure one of the filets had more bones than meat. The breading was spotty with large areas not breaded & half the fish was, well, fishy. I (along with 3/4 of the table) appreciated the option to get German Potato Salad or Potato Pancakes instead of the standard fries. The buttered marble rye was also a hit with most. I stopped eating the perch on piece 2 of 4. I went to the potato pancakes, which were pretty good, as was the German Potato Salad. The coleslaw was ok. While I'm not mad at $80 after tip. Service was alright. Water was filled once empty. Bill was brought out promptly. No mention of dessert & I spaced it out. Since we're now 2hrs away... oops

We finally got a table after a 1/2 hour wait, we looked at their website before deciding to eat here, so we knew what we wanted. They brought our order, it was wrong, they gave us 2 brat pasties. My wife hates cheddar cheese, they tried to make it right. Watch out for overcharge on extras? like marinara sauce and cheddar cheese dip, these should be included, as gravy is included. A dollar more for the sweet potato fries, than shown in the menu. Nice personality, just why do this is tourists and tourism. Good pasties, but at a cost.

Don't write off this Hmong restaurant as just another bar/lounge in town. Hmong dishes here are the…read morestar. Looked into why even with 5 reviews (5 star) it was ranked #2 in searches of restaurants near our stay. There's a cluster of Hmong restaurants and a bakery on this block and more on the street! Went with the Hmong sausage based on prior reviews and got the stir-fry bamboo with pork for something interesting and a taste contrast. Sausage is moist not dry and uniquely paired with the purple sticky/wild rice. Bamboo shoots are more fresh rather than fermented (I know some prefer the complexity of the latter), but this does not ruin the dish - here the flavors are bright and complementing those of the basil. Noticed the tendon/pork belly soup at $5 and this is a must even to share. This is probably the core beef broth they use in their soups served with sliced beef tendon and pork belly. It's a great complement to the meal with a peppery (rather than spicy) kick in the broth. I enjoyed it with a little white rice mixed in. Wound up ordering a nava dessert rather than a drink for the same price. Good coconut base plus a beautifully arranged layers of colored tapioca, and cendol. Team service made sure we were taken care of.

Get the house papaya salad and eat with some sticky rice. The salad was pungent, funky, and so umami packed we ate every bit of it. The Hmong sausage with purple rice seems simple but it is excellent. And definitely get the garlic string beans. I kept eating even though I was full, it was so addictive. Five thumbs up. Miss it already.
