To me, it was only ok. The food was great but I didn't feel there was anything spectacular or special about the dishes that would prompt me to recommend this restaurant over others in the Huntington/Cold Spring Harbor area. Maybe if we had dined a bit earlier and had a clear view of the harbor it would have made a significant difference but it was 8pm when we arrived and dark and rainy out. I also felt the service was lacking. When greeted at the door, the host looked at us as if we were lost and weren't supposed to be there. When we said we had a reservation he seemed confused, saying that our table was still being set up. However when we got upstairs, it had been sitting empty since our initial reservation at 7pm (we had to move it back to 8pm for other reasons). The maitre d', George, was pleasant and accommodating. Our waitress, Jessica, seemed new and not sure of what was going on. When we asked her if she had any recommendations, she said, "What?" and walked away. Later, my aunt had ordered a bowl of soup for her meal since she had just arrived from Thailand and didn't want to have too heavy a meal. My brother on the other hand, ordered a cup of soup. So a bowl of soup arrives while we were waiting for our entrees and we were not told whether it was a bowl or a cup. Now, the soup was in a bowl, but only filled halfway. We had to ask another server if it was a considered a bowl or a cup, and he said cup. My aunt didn't want to eat it yet bc the rest of us hadn't gotten our meals yet. We had to get George to come over and ask him as well whether it was a cup or a bowl and that my brother was missing his appetizer cup of soup. I don't know whose mistake it was but we should have been told whether that soup qualified as a bowl or a cup. Apparently, they use the same bowl for both a cup and a bowl of soup, they just fill it more for a bowl. Well, thanks for the explanation. We don't have a point of reference for distinguishing between a cup and bowl having never been there before. At least we know for next time, if there is a next time. Anyway, it was probably around 9-9:30 by the time we got our entrees. What a long wait! Especially if we didn't order any apps, other than my brother's missing cup of soup (he was rewarded with a BOWL of soup instead). I got the Scallops, which were served with vegetables tossed in a brown butter glaze and mashed potatoes. I don't know if it was because I was starving or if the plate was really good, but I cleaned it. My boyfriend had the skirt steak which was also pretty delicious, but I preferred the chimichurri sauce to be less watery. My brother and his wife both got the seafood risotto, which was very watery also. I thought risotto was supposed to be thicker. The rest of the party (my parents and uncle) ordered the fish special, served over basmati rice and spinach. It looked good but I didn't get to try it. For the 8 of us with no apps and one bottle of wine the bill came out to around $350. Not bad for a party of 8. I would sooner recommend other restaurants than dine here again. read more

I absolutely loved the quaint two floor yesterday. My family and I went for Saturday brunch. We ate on the 2nd floor because there was a baby shower on the first. The view of the ocean is beautiful from the second floor and it was a lovely experience to walk along the shore after a wonderful brunch. Bathroom is clean with closet like doors for each toilet. We came here for our anniversary dinner. We called ahead and lady was kind to accommodate our request for a corner table view harbor view. The restaurant gets 4 stars for location and view but zero star for the quality of food served. We ordered thai calamari, pecan crusted tilapia, & Red snapper. The pecan crusted tilapia was the worst food I have ever eaten. There was no crust it was soggy, gooey uncooked frozen fish. Just completely gross. We both felt sick after eating that. Other dishes were just average. The service was average as well. It's saddening to see a beautiful location that could could do so much better. The management need to focus on food quality. Harbor Mist is a good restaurant and has lots of outdoor seating. However, the outside dining is not fine dining. I think they are missing the mark serving such expensive dinners in the parking lot. We were treated like royalty! We just had a birthday party for my husband yesterday with approximately 45 to 50 people. The food choices were plentiful. Everything was prepared beautifully, delicious and fresh thanks to the skill of co-owner/chef Ramon and genius of co-owner Barman. The service was impeccable! The waiters and staff are out there to please you with excellent service. Eight - ten people greeted me at my truck to help unload flowers, balloons and anything else I needed to have done. We had music and dancing. We never felt rushed to leave and all our guests thoroughly had an amazing time. Ambience: nicer upscale area. This place is located right across from the water.This place is an older style Long Island house converted into business use. Not very impressive. Not much decor inside and the walls are a off yellow color. This place looked like it had a fire place at one point but it currently sits covered up with what looks like a sideways door and some ugly green marble. FYI the tables outdoors are tiny and the tops are made of sharp stone. Service: we went there for lunch. I'm guessing people do not order beer here because the waiter did not know what was available. I was not offered pepper or fresh cheese for my pasta dish. The table next to us was given this option. Food: we tried to order the lobster roll but were told they ran out ( it was 2pm!!). I ordered the linguini and pasta dish which was not bad but nothing to rave about. Overall: nice location. Not so great service. And OK food. Would I come back? Probably not. There are much nicer restaurants around the area especially with Huntington village so close by. I would probably not recommend this place. After hiking in Cold Spring Harbor we decided to stop in here for lunch. The view upstairs was very nice and the service was excellent, although there were only 4 tables occupied including us so it would be pretty sad to have bad service..... The humus and bread sticks thye put on the table were good, for some reason they put olive oil on top which is really not necessary. We just had salads, soup and apps so can't rate other food. We had the crab cocktail which was plentiful and very fresh. The clam chowder was excellent, but they don't have oyster crackers, which is practically a sin in my book. The salads were very blah, the spinach salad was fresh but had basically no flavor even though they called it a citrus vinaigrette, and the Caesar was definitely bottled dressing. I would give it another try for dinner because everything seemed very fresh. IMO they just need to kick up the flavoring a notch :) read more

We just had a wonderful Mother's Day Brunch at the Harbor Mist! The food was great-- the seafood was fresh and nicely seasoned. My son greatly enjoyed his surf and turf steak and lobster tail. We dined outside, and the tables were comfortably spaced and ventilated. I can't say enough about how good the service was, and that compliment applies to all the staff who were involved. Everyone there was polite, efficient and helpful. They were quite busy, but did not let that impact at all on our dining experience. I can't wait to go back for the next special occasion. Amazing place. It is situated right off the water which makes for an amazing view. I think a really important aspect is how great the staff is. From my experience they have always been very kind and accommodating. If you have any concerns they always hear you out and try to help which is important. It feels very individualized, not like your some fleeting consumer. The food and menu is traditional, and excellent. Great crab cakes, oysters, clams, and salmon. Always consistent. Harbor mist is always a good bet. You can count on service and the quality of food which is really all you ever want when you go out and spend money on a nice dinner. Just stopped in for lunch cant say I'll be back. Beside the lackluster menu for non fish eaters the food we did order was nothing special. Small burger with an oversized bun one tomato and some almost white lettuce and fish and chips for my counterpart. I also got the potato soup which tasted just like just add water potato soup mix from the store super bland very thin. We got rum cake for desert very dry not the moist soaked in rum texture I was expecting. When the check came I was blown away $60! They didnt bother to mention that each fountain drink including club soda was $3 a piece no free refills. And the drinks are small easily less then a can so you go through them fast. Over all total rip off meal was worth a third of what we ended up paying. Dont believe the hype the view is the only thing spectacular here. read more

I came here for brunch with my friend one day. The place was adorable and the view was great. There's a parking lot as well! We were seated immediately without reservations because it was pretty empty. But wait, it was empty, so why did our food take so long? My friend has been here before and had great service. She recommended this place to me. We came for brunch and the food was delicious; oysters fresh, calamari sweet, and eggs benedict perfect. I had a sangaria which was also good. My friend's english muffin came out burnt which led her to be even more annoyed since the food took 40 minutes minimum to arrive. Great food and atmosphere with tons of outdoor seating. However we were disappointed with some situations regarding staff members. When we first arrived the host sat us down but never gave us a menu. Not a big deal for us and we continued on with our meal. What really irked us was that a man who appeared to be either the owner or upper management walked around yelling at his staff and did not wear his mask at all throughout the evening. Our friends took us out for our anniversary on Sunday, it was a beautiful day and we wanted to sit upstairs to look out on the beautiful bay however there was a party going on so they seated us down stairs so had practically no view of the bay however, the service was pretty good and the food was delicious we all had a really nice brunch. I was a guest for a birthday dinner at Harbor Mist last Saturday night. The birthday girl's mom and I both arrived early and waited at the almost empty bar where the bartender repeatedly asked us if we wanted drinks until the manager stopped him. Eventually, the rest of our party arrived and we were seated at a table right by the picture window, not much to see at night though. I noted there were few other diners there. The waiter got the birthday girl's wine order wrong and couldn't remember who ordered what. I got the filet mignon and fries. The steak was excellent and cooked perfectly. Sadly, the fries seemed like they were frozen, not fresh cut. OK but not at these prices. The waiter was somewhat confused when bringing the desserts though everything was straightened out. I got the chocolate mousse cake and it was good and large enough that I couldn't finish it. We were treated to a bottle of chocolate wine. Overall a pleasant experience. Food: Good Service: Attentive but inept Ambience: Beautiful old house all done up for the holidays, A+ All-in-all, as a guest, I had a great time and I can't comment on the cost but, on the other hand, if I was paying, Harbor Mist would not be on my list, except, perhaps, for brunch in the summer. read more

We had a nice late lunch here. The ambiance was very nice inside with a bit of a water view and a park view. The New England Clam chowder, was one of the better ones I have had lately. Not too thick or thin, decent amount of clams and bacon, potatoes while larger in size were cooked through. The mussels and their broth were delicious. The pork chop was spicy but good. I went to this place for brunch with friends because we heard they had decent brunch menu. We went with the prefix meal option which was decently priced and it was bottomless. I ordered the fish taco thingies that were really bland and disappointing. My friend's did not enjoy their entree's either everything was bland and tasteless. The mimosas were not very strong and all around the food was disappointing. I only gave it two stars because the decor and set up were nice and the view was lovely. All in all I have definitely had better brunch experiences foodwise and I would not go back. read more
