    Hard Truth at Fashion Mall
    Richard P.

I'm honestly not much of a drinker, but I couldn't resist the chance to check out the new location of Indiana-based Hard Truth Distilling Co. located smack dab in the middle of the food court at the Fashion Mall at Keystone. If you haven't been at the Fashion Mall lately, they've been doing some shifting of food offerings and the Hard Truth family is being represented by the just opened Hard Truth Distilling and the soon to be open new location of Big Woods in the spot vacated by Shapiro's. In case you're not aware, this is the circular location directly in the center of the food court area. HoiTea ToiTea moved over to where Which Wich used to be and Hard Truth now serves up both spirits and brews right in the center. It's a great spot and it maintains the Hard Truth rustic feeling in terms of decor and presentation. This spot serves up, of course, Hard Truth's line along with signature cocktails, classic cocktails, cider, a couple wine selections, and several selections from Quaff On! (which is in the Hard Truth family along with Big Woods). Apparently, you can even get growler fills and there are some carryout options. This was a quick visit for me as I was grabbing dinner at Mimi Blue, but I knew I had to stop at Hard Truth. In terms of accessibility, this area is quite accessible. There's designated food court area parking with several accessible parking spots (that truly meet ADA). The entryway has automatic doors and the food court is very open concept. There are plenty of tables around and there were multiple customers here while I was around. The employees were well dressed and friendly and well-informed about product offerings. I'll admit I'm not super knowledgeable about spirits and I really appreciate having someone around who is well-informed. I have to admit I was also glad they had more than spirits. I'm a definite Quaff On! fan and actually hadn't realized they were under the same corporate umbrella. Prices for signature cocktails are all in the $12-16 range. Classic cocktails are in the $10-18 range. Brews are around $6.95. You can choose a flight of four 5-ounce pours for $10.50 or let the bartender choose a flight of six for $15. My favorite brews? Busted Knuckle, a porter, and Hoosier Red, a red ale. The Blood Orange Yellow Dwarf is the Beer of the Month this month and it's also a delight. They don't actually serve food here, however, you're literally surrounded by restaurants and Big Woods will also open soon. This is a very similar set up to Bottleworks. I could easily see this being a destination spot for someone wanting to grab dinner, do some shopping, and have a drink after work. The atmosphere is pleasant, the drinks are awesome, and you could even head up to Landmark and grab a movie. Definitely a winner here. They do have an actual bar area that has a boundary around it. It looks pretty amazing. I'll admit I wish they'd added a wheelchair spot here, but that's a minor quibble and not worth lowering the rating since there are lots of other seating options. This is an absolute winner and there's simply no doubt I'll be back.

TL;DR More than spirts; they have beer too. What a great idea for the 'middle' of the Fashion Mall. With all of my favorite stores in this mall, it's nice to belly up to the bar for a little liquid encouragements to make new purchases. One could always drink to forget them too, I guess. Ha3. Hard Truth Distilling is from Nashville, IN, distilling in, you guessed it, spirits. Pulling up to the bar I was greeted with a wall of rye whiskeys. Not being a whiskey drinker, I got a beer: Quaff On! Peanut Butter Busted Knuckle. At 7.2% ABV, I was one and done. Truth be told, I would have gone for a second if the waitress was faster on the pour betting my wife from walking up. The waitress was helpful and knowledgeable. They could have used a second one during the busy Saturday.

The most amazing service and drink options on the north side. Enjoyed a great wind down after a busy work day at the Hard Truth Bar at Keystone at the Crossing! My bartender Kandace was knowledgeable, attentive and fully dedicated to meet my needs. The general manager Kyle is so AMAZING always ensures that you feel welcomed and remembered. The ambiance is very nice and in the center of the mall. You have great food and drink options with shopping within eyesight.

My custom pizza was so delicious I had to order one to go before I left the restaurant. I ordered a side of onion rings and they were probably the best I've had in a long time, they were crunchy and not soggy like some I've had at different places. The service was really amazing, my mom and I were seated quickly and our food came out pretty quick. It always blows my mind how there's a restaurant in a mall but the vibe is pretty laid back and chill. Definitely will be coming back for more pizza and onion rings!

I decided to check out the bar in the middle of the food court, it's a circular set up and very fun.

(Because I hate shopping for clothes.) But mostly, I visit when I'm at the Landmark to see a movie. I've visited this bar many times, and every time has been a pleasant experience. They have a full menu of cocktails -- sometimes even special cocktails that are themed with the movies that are playing. They also have a decent wine menu. They also have local beer available, and some snacks. The bar has a door that enters from the mall, but also a door that you can access from the theatre. There are lots of tables here, and it's never crowded. It's usually pretty quiet except for the sound of whatever is playing on the TV above the bar -- usually sports. All of the bartenders that I've encountered have been extremely efficient and friendly. They'll usually ask you what movie you're here to see, or how you're doing, which I don't usually care about but it's nice when they do it here.

We selected Doc B's and it was our first time here. Normally, we would be at one our favorite restaurants across the parking lot, Seasons 52. I'm so happy we tried Doc B's. It was absolutely amazing on every single facet of being a great eatery. The facility is inviting and fits a business casual lunch crowd and would also be most appropriate for a date night or special gathering. Friendly and prompt service starts at the hostess stand and just builds from that point. Our server, Sam (Samantha) was one of the most professional and attentive server we have experienced in some time. It takes a great management team to mold a staff to be exceptional. And to our surprise the General Manager, John served us our entrees at the table. But later checked in with us to evaluate our experience; which is unheard of these days. John and Samantha impressed us so very much, that Doc B's will now become a regular destination. Oh yes, I should comment on our food and cocktails. TOP NOTCH!! My wife had a carnitas sandwich with slow roasted pork, coleslaw, a pickle spear and thick onion ring with amazing barbecue sauce. It was served with the best tasting side I have ever put in my mouth. You must see what they do with a smashed baby Yukon potato with special breading and deep fried. I had the famous Wok Bowl with shrimp and lo mein noodles and sweet and spicy Thai sauce. It is packed with the freshest vegetables and sprinkled with cashews. I was blown away with the quantity of shrimp in that bowl. They do not skimp on the protein. I enjoyed this dish so very much and can truly say it isnt just a stir fry entree. Beautiful facility, friendly and attentive staff, management that truly cares about the customer and quality food coming from the kitchen that will not disappoint. During that entire time, no one had even taken our entrée order. Our server was pleasant, but she wasn't very present. We found ourselves constantly looking around for her, but she was nowhere to be found when we needed something. She brought me a glass of water without ice, so I had to ask for it. Thankfully, they have the good nugget ice, so that was definitely a win. One thing that really stood out was the food delivery. Normally, restaurants use seat numbers so the food runner knows exactly where each dish belongs. Instead, they just placed plates wherever there was space. It was odd. Maybe it was because we were seated at a round table? I ordered the wings with a side of broccoli. The wings were decent--good enough, but nothing I'd go out of my way to order again. The broccoli was cooked perfectly, but unfortunately it wasn't warm. I also asked for hot habanero sauce and a side of garlic butter. The habanero sauce was disappointingly watery, and the garlic butter arrived cold. Why not melt the butter before bringing it to the table? The entire experience left me scratching my head. That said, I'll definitely give them another chance because this really felt like an off night. I still want to try the candied bacon, and I'm almost certain I spotted a hot fudge sundae making its way to another table--even though I didn't see it anywhere on the menu! Wish me luck!

Some were quietly relaxing while others were catching up over drinks. The coffeehouse-meets-cocktail-bar aesthetic is well executed and gives the space a distinct personality. I ordered the nonalcoholic Basil Needs a Break, and it was excellent. If you like basil, this drink definitely delivers. It was bright, refreshing, and very basil-forward. The service was friendly and welcoming. My only complaint was the temperature inside. It was nearly 100 degrees outside, but the bar felt warm with very little air circulation. It was almost refreshing to step back into the muggy heat after leaving, which probably isn't the feeling you're hoping to give your guests. I'd definitely come back for the drinks and atmosphere, but I'd hope for a cooler temp next time.

The parking lot seemed full, but I am guessing a lot of folks drove separate based on the number inside. We got a spot that was close to the front entrance, but a tree with a low branch made trying to navigate in / out of the vehicle a bit of an extra adventure. When we entered the front entrance, the host stand is immediately visible, where we were promptly greeted. It appeared that they had their normal dining space to the left and a good-sized bar with booths surrounding the perimeter to the right. We expressed our interest in the happy hour and were taken to a booth on the bar side, although the host failed to provide a menu for the happy hour. We asked our waiter for happy hour menus when he arrived and he quickly brought them. We first selected from the Small Plates options their Warm Goat Cheese Spread ($8), which was advertised as having roasted tomatoes and wood-grilled sourdough. It may have also included toasted parmesan, we're not sure, but it tasted off. I had the sensation like I had just brushed my teeth before eating, so it wasn't awesome. My wife didn't finish it either, which is a pretty big deal considering her love for cheese. We each ordered a $14 Flatbread and Sip to share. We each had their Tilia Malbec for the sip, which was OK. We selected their Roasted Tomato and their Lobster and Avocado Flatbread, which had a $5 upcharge. The lobster flatbread was OK, but seemed sparse on the toppings for the price. The best thing we ate was the roasted tomato. It was rich and we agreed it was a decent value and that we would have ordered it again. When we asked for our bill, we noticed the happy hour prices had not been applied. We pointed it out and it was corrected, but be aware of this if you order items from their happy hour menu.
