The burger was good, the service was even better! We stopped by Barley Burger on a weekday…read moreafternoon for lunch while traveling through Rocky Mount.. we tend to stop in Rocky Mount frequently when driving I-95 up the East Coast. This restaurant is in a strip shopping center and in the area of local hotels. We were seated near the bar which was a nice booth with raised barriers between tables which made conversation easy. Our server Kaydi quickly came over to offer drinks, an energetic tone, a positive smile, and the refreshing Southern "yes ma'am/sir." I got the Blues Brothers Burger with sweet potato fries, a very tasty lunch, and filling. We were offered to-go drinks, a cordial touch. Pricing averaged about $25 per person, a very reasonable price for the value delivered. Overall, we will certainly be back the next time we're driving along the east coast. I hope we're lucky enough to meet Kaydi again, as she's an asset to this establishment.

I originally didn't think I'd finish this salad but it was really fresh and delicious. Very low carb meal. Next time I might try chicken instead of burgers. Husband had the Rocky Balboa burger and a side salad instead of fries. He was a little disappointed in the small size of the burger but it was otherwise good (cooked medium well but not dry) and the salad was fresh. Service was friendly but server had a little trouble remembering if they had Guinness. I would expect the servers to have this information ready as they serve primarily burgers and BEER, ya know. It was an early Fri nt dinner for us so not crowded or busy yet. Noise level was moderate and we could still talk without raising our voices.

This is your typical independent roadside joint that was popular back in the 1950's but have now managed to die out in most parts of the country. There is ample parking out front, and the area you order from (pictured) is inside a set of double doors. There are places to sit, including a cool old school rocking chair, while you wait for your food to come out. All items are made to order here, so you will have to wait a bit but it is worth the wait. For breakfast my favorite is the wagon train sandwich. This is double bacon, fried egg, and pimento spread on a Kaiser roll. Killer flavor combo and be sure to get a side order of hash browns extra crispy to go along with it. The homemade biscuits here are similarly a must try. This place closes at 2 each day, so keep this in mind if you are after some lunch. The Big Ben burger is essentially a homemade bacon double cheese burger topped with their house made chili. Yum. It's a winner. They also have daily specials which you will find on a dry erase board inside where you order. This is mainly a take out joint, but they have an outdoor picnic area which makes for a great place to post up on nice days. Staff is super friendly and prices are cheap. I am sure I will be back next time I am in town.
