I stopped here along the way during my tip to tip Manhattan walk. I had heard really good things and wanted to get some biscuits. This place was great because there were enough chairs to have a quick seat during our walk, as well as a bathroom inside. There are bar seats as well as sit down tables. Now besides the biscuits, which were buttery and delicious, I was blown away by the service. I ordered only two biscuits but was given three anyway, and the staff even brought over extra sauces that they recommended so we could enjoy and try different flavor combos. 4/27 While in Harlem I yelped for breakfast instead of riding around searching for a four leaf clover. A lot of eateries have developed here over the years so there's a vast variety of options. This was a lengthy walk from Harlem Hospital but it's doable. Coming to Harlem Biscuit was kind of hard to find, because there is another restaurant advertisement above the restaurant. Nonetheless we made it. Doors are open, you walk in, the staff is very attentive. Just as you walk in an employee greets you and direct you to the kiosks. You don't pass GO, you don't sit down and look at a menu, you go over to the kiosk and scroll, and search for what you want. The description of the food is underneath the item of choice. Can you get the feeling of how tedious this can be? One of the bad things about using a kiosk, as I was concluding my order, I was attempting to add my number. A lady on the next line at her kiosk reaches over and ended my transaction. For what reason, I think she thought that she was being helpful. She did get a tongue lashing. I've seen her around in my younger years in Harlem but didn't know her name. After the order was completed by a half stranger, my plus one and I sat and waited for our food to arrive. Theres a lot to look at while you're waiting. This place looks like a pub and hard to maneuver. I can imagine at night or on the weekends, it will get packed and that's not a bad thing, packed is great for businesses. I ordered the homemade chicken biscuit and Sweet tea. This biscuit was a huge square biscuit very filling and really satisfying. It's a biscuit, so you're going to get full. For my satisfaction, I ordered two plain biscuits to go, with butter on the side and a strawberry spread on the side as well. I'm SO excited I found this place. My friend was in town and we wanted to grab a quick breakfast before she left. Clearly a popular place and I've been missing out. We were warmly greeted and directed to the kiosk to order. Loved the decor. We sat down and the food came out in under 10 minutes. I so wanted to love Harlem Biscuit Co., but my feelings are mixed, especially given the vibe the marketing presents. Let's start with the positive though. The biscuits are fantastic! Light, fluffy, flavorful - it's what you want in the biscuit. While I only had the cheddar and chive ones (my meal was a la carte because...see below), I feel like I can endorse here given that option alone. The eggs were also good, as was the maple butter, a great accompianant. Then potatoes, however, were lackluster. Felt like they were industrially made not homemade, though the flavor was good. I'll also say, the staff was helpful. What I did not care for was obvious upon entering. An employee at the bar motions me to order at the kiosk. I say, "I'm dining in," and he replies to still order via kiosk. Ugh. Not homey at all. Very impersonal. The kiosk is also not that well set up as when you click on each biscuit it doesn't even describe what the contents are. It does give you add on options though. It does also show what they were out of, which was many items. No cheddar cheese, no goat cheese, no vegan sausage. That sucks, and it was close to 12 noon so not late in the day yet. I then so couldn't order the Rosa (biscuit sandwiches are named after Black history notables). My expectations got lower and lower. I settled on building my own breakfast out and decided on the aforementioned eggs, dusted potatoes, and two biscuits option - which for some reason had to be the same flavor of biscuit. I would have loved to sample the standard buttermilk one, but alas, I'd have to drop more for that. I kinda wanted grits, but given that no cheese was available, opted not to. They also only had coffee, no tea, not even just one flavor (I double checked this). You can get apple or orange juice though. You then present the printout to an employee and sit yourself. You also need to get your own plastic utensils and water. I struck up a nice, which ended up being long (like this review, ha ha) conversation who also had a bewildering first experience here, but has been a regular since. He said he sensed my consternation from afar. My main issue with this whole experience is that it felt very impersonal. I get cost-saving measures, truly, but the restaurant pre-arrival gives off a down home vibe you expect from Harlem, but don't receive. Was a tough decision among the choices named after great black leaders. Got a Malcolm X $16 chicken thigh sandwich. Made to order it seems. Took a while to get though it was not busy when I came in. Choice of biscuit plain, cheddar and chive, or everything. Wish I had tried some sides but weather was too hot and humid for more heavy food. The chicken was excellent, right amount of spicy for me. Biscuits are one of my favorite breakfast items so the Harlem Biscuit Company was at the top of my list to try. I am so glad I got to experience it today! I was hoping for high protein so was in between the Fredrick with chicken sausage or the Queenie with their house cured gravlax smoked salmon. I opted for the latter and it was a magnificent choice. While the recommended pairing was the everything biscuit, I opted for the sweet buttermilk biscuit. This turned out to be an excellent neutral canvas for smoked salmon which is a bit salty anyway. The biscuit was fluffy and soft and very nice to bite into with the fillings. I would love to try their cheddar chive biscuit next, with their hand made spreads. I ordered for pick up online thinking that it was going to be difficult to get a seat. However, there was plenty of room on this Sunday morning before 11a. Decided to visit this place, because it was one of many places I've had bookmarked. I ordered two biscuits sandwiches and a drink. I enjoyed the homemade biscuits one being buttermilk and the other was the chive cheddar, and although these sandwiches had names I couldn't remember them, so I will describe it. One was plain biscuit with a fried chicken and pimento cheese on it, and the other was a chicken sausage biscuit with some white gravy on the side. I also had some slaw with the fried chicken and it was the best slaw I've ever tasted. So fresh and so delicious I didn't even care to finish the sandwich once I ran out of the slaw. The chicken biscuit was my favorite of the two sandwiches, it was so flavorful and the white gravy sauce went so well with it I would have preferred to have just ordered two of those. The restaurant also had some good music to bop my head to while enjoying my sandwiches. I wouldn't mind eating here again, customer service was quite good, and they had plenty of space to dine in and eat. I didn't really care for the ordering process of it all l, had to use those ordering tablets. I did get some help so again I appreciate the service. The orange juice tasted fresh squeezed, the tea was sweet, and the lemonade was excellent! The biscuits are the main event and star of the show. They are warm tender and Tate great alone l, but butter takes it to the next level and there are several butter options for the more adventurous folks, however complain butter for us plain Janes. I love supporting Harlem whenever I can. The Harlem community is down to earth, community driven, and damn talented when it comes to music, food, art, and pretty much anything else. You can order biscuits individually or in pairs or trios (chive cheddar, sweet buttermilk, everything--like the bagel). You can order sandwiches with great Harlem/Black history names--I had the John Lewis (hot chicken--and they mean hot--wtih slaw, and pickle). It was indeed quite spicy and the biscuit was flaky and flavorful. Great sandwich, though it was so stacked I ended up eating it with a fork and knife. They also have sandwiches like the Langston (fried chicken, pickles, chili garlic honey), the Martin (fried chicken, bacon, egg, and cheese), the Malcom (fried chicken, egg, cheese, hot sauce). They have any combo of egg, bacon, cheese, chicken, pork, honey, cheese, etc. you could imagine with a Black history name. They also have biscuit bowls and omelets, biscuits and gravy, and multiple sides, including the hot, gooey pimento Mac n cheese I had. Devine. Service was pure Harlem. Everything biscuit was so good!! Both my friend and I thought we were lost when we tried to find the place. Don't look for their name on an awning, instead they have signs hanging off the awning. When you walk in you'll be directed to order at the kiosk. There is seating for parties of 2 or 3 up front at high table or the bar and parties of 3 or more can sit in the back. I got here at 10:30 on a Saturday. It was quiet but they already had a ton of to-go orders waiting to be picked up. Half an hour later they were busy! The orders did not stop coming and going! The staff was very nice in telling people that they appreciated everyone's patient as they waited for their orders. Our orders came out in a timely manner, drinks took a lot longer. I ordered the strawberry lemonade ($5.50) which they kept making batches of due to its popularity. It was good drink, not a must have. Luckily I did not find it too sweet. I ordered the Rosa (egg and cheese) on an everything biscuit ($7.53). I'd keep going back just to order this type of biscuit! Also tried the Langston on the chive and cheddar biscuit ($13).
