My coworker got me two patties for lunch -- a split pea and a beef patty. When I tell you my eyes lit up! It was well seasoned and well spiced. The split pea patty was a stand out. Good customer service. I went a week ago off of a patty recommendation. The beef patty was very flavorful and a great balance with coco bread but I noticed they had something I never seen before but it looked like coco bread but it was in the same heater as the patties. Naturally I asked what was it and all I heard was "oxtail". THEY PUT THE OXTAIL IN THE COCO BREAD Y'ALL!!!!! There was a slice of cheese in there and it was PHENOMENAL! This place would be considered a local "hole in the wall" but in a good way. I saw it advertised on IG and thought today I would give it a go!! Location is in Harlem not far from the ABCD train on 145th. Facility is clean and small with a counter, wall menu and open kitchen. Restaurant is take-out and accepts cash and credit cards. The counter lady was polite. I ordered a vegan patty, a veggie patty and a Watermelon/passion fruit juice. My total was $16 and well worth it. The vegan patty had the traditional flakey patty dough outside and a slightly sweet split pea filling. I truly enjoyed it. The veggie patty had a whole wheat dough outside with cabbage, broccoli and a bit of spice which really gave it a wonderful flavor boost. The juice was simply delish. Not too sweet and a refreshing passion fruit flavor. I truly enjoyed the experience. Food was definitely excellent. For a quick bite it is reasonably priced. We were in the area and decided to grab a bite. The Beef Patty was super seasoned, beyond any other beef patty I've ever had. Some of the seasonings clashed or felt out of place but I liked that it was piping hot, loaded with beef, and wasn't dry. The patty itself wasn't flaky (which I tend to prefer) but it tasted fresh. The Small Oxtail Plate was heavy! They stuff so much oxtail into this small plate. The Oxtail itself was sweet, savory, and smoky. The rice & peas was decent but the steamed veggies were just okay. I liked the cabbage but I've never seen it come with broccoli, peppers, etc. They were mushy and didn't taste that good to me. They also didn't include the sweet plantains which should be included in the plate per the menu! I was super disappointed as I love plantains so this meal felt incomplete to me. I always come here and get the jerk chicken, it's probably the best Jamaican takeout in the area. Sometimes the patties aren't hot, I like my chicken patties steaming hot, but that's the only complaint I have. The service is always top notch, one of the few Jamaican cashiers who isn't rude. Love it! and welcome to Harlem They have a well known establishment for years and I was so pleased to see them on 145th Street The food is excellent, the service great and the staff was courteous and pleasant. They accommodate requests such as to separate the rice and peas from the meat without being charged an crazy price. The red snapper was good, the curry goat was good and the oxtail was good and the fish soap was good. They told me that they have been in Harlem for a year and I wish them well It is a buy and go establishment and they delivery. The packaging is also good as it is not the foil pans. I was told great things about this eatery but my experience was not that great. My friends who are Jamaican found the food fantastic and I could not wait to try it. So one Saturday when I had a car I went to try this place out and was treated to an order of a small oxtail meal and 2 beef patties with cocoa bread. I was so hungry I attacked one of the patties and coco bread while my friend was getting the oxtails. Although the patty dough was a little thicker than what I would prefer the patty was quite tasty and the cocoa bread was very soft and delicious. I ate the oxtails later that night for dinner and I was underwhelmed. It lacked flavor but the meat was tender. Maybe it was a fluke for that day but I doubt I would pay for them again and they charge for extra gravy. However, I do have a new spot for patties and cocoa bread so 4 stars for that but 3 stars for the oxtail meal. I cannot comment on the service since I did not go inside. read more
