Thank you Yesenia for keeping me entertained on a rainy day while you made my delicious oyster po'boy! It's been some time since I've had oysters in NYC that were plump, fresh and delicious. My server and cook was a special lady that made my day a little better while I ordered my sandwich to-go. The bus ride home was hellish and I was over the day. But bay-beeee, after heating up my po'boy, I felt the sunshine. Well- seasoned, fresh, plump, cooked to perfection oysters were on the softest roll with all the bells and whistles and a really flavorful aioli. Will definitely return when my oyster jones kicks in again!

Dekalb Market Hall was already my religion, but thanks to Chef Tami for a one-of-a-kind experience on my first Harlem Seafood Soul visit. The impressive garlic-laden shrimp with grits makes you wonder why everyone else seems to have smaller crustaceans. The collard greens with smoked turkey was a knockout and I'd certainly sign up for any meat-focused offerings even if fried seafood is front and center. The service was outstanding. Chef Tami was friendly and welcoming, and it was great discussing her history and food overall.

I'm always excited to try new spots in Dekalb Market Hall, especially ones that serve up things my kids will always eat (chicken and fries). So I'm glad Harlem Seafood Soul moved into this larger stand that was open for a minute. The only staff member here made it a little difficult to place an order, but once we got her attention, we put in the order for Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Fries. They are frying things to order, which I certainly appreciate, so we were able to check out the well-thought out and fun decor. Some photos and bios of important black leaders, thoughtful quotes posted, and in the counter itself, polaroids of what I imagine is the family behind Harlem Seafood Soul. All good. When our food came up, they gave us the necessary condiments and utensils, and we moved on. And the food was solid. Well-seasoned fries, and the chicken (essentially two large chicken fingers - see photo), was juicy and tender. No complaints about the product. That said, it was a pretty small portion of chicken and not too many fries. This meal cost about $15, which means $20 post tax and tip. While we enjoyed it, be warned it's not a ton for your money. I can't imagine the seafood portions are larger than chicken, but I'll be back to try it all the same.

Decided to swing back to the Dekalb Market Hall and head over to Harlem Seafood Soul vendor and try out the food itself, is prolly hit or miss. The guy ahead of me ordered a 3 fish combo and wasn't too satisfied with his fish. My Po'Boy on the other hand was tasty, Mac and Cheese was pretty decent and the lemonade Iced Tea quenched my thirst well. I just don't think it warrants the $28 price tag though. I've ordered slightly more from places like Shake Shack for slightly less. I get it, it's a vendor in Brooklyn so it's gonna run some cash but I believe my order would've been more satisfactory if it were closer to $20 but that's just me. Other than that, the shrimp and sides are pretty good. I'd be wary of the fish though.

I was disappointed with the service and food I received at Harlem Seafood and Soul. When I arrived there was no one to greet me and take my order at the counter. There were staff members just sitting on the bar stools on their phones before someone acknowledged me. When I finally got my food I was underwhelmed. The fish is fried to order but it was dry and lacked seasoning. The grits weren't cooked long enough. It was very gritty and the texture seemed off. Will likely not return again.

They don't play around here!! I ordered their shrimp and chips and the shrimp was perfectly breaded and seasoned. I added some hot sauce which complemented everything quite nicely. My friend got the fish (soft, flaky, and also with light breading) and grits and let me try some. The grits were soft and made me feel warm and cozy. I for sure want to try their sides like collard greens and fried mac 'n cheese balls. Shout out to Chef Tami and her crew for working hard every day and making that soul food with love and passion.

Immediately upon sitting down, I felt like I was joining my family to for dinner and my auntie was preparing the food. Chef Tami and crew are great with customers!! I was even able to sample the cornbread and it literally taste like cake! I ordered the fish wrap, greens and turkey and, an Arnold Palmer. I was a little underwhelmed with size of the wrap but, overall it was ok. I will probably order something different next time I visit; like the grits. I'm taking stars off due to the taste of the greens and the fact that the counter stained my clothing red from the paint. I wish it would have been warning or knowledge that the paint was not properly dried or set. As mentioned earlier in the review, I will probably come back based upon other menu items I would like to try and the customer service I experienced.

    Hush puppies

I was so excited to try this spot when I saw a reel on IG unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations. The fish was so thin and over cooked and so were the shrimp and had no flavor.I also tried their honey cornbread and potato salad was trash I also had the hush puppies also disappointing . Fry chicken was two chicken strips and had the collard greens w turkey and mac and cheese wasn't any better. Let's just say looks are deceiving. The price is not worth the food i paid way to much $$ to be disappointed in taste and portion.

I've walked by this stall a few times on my way to other shops inside Dekalb Market and have always been drawn by the lovely scents. Finally sat down recently to order the Uptown Special, which included fried fish, fries, and jumbo shrimp. Even though it was past 8:30, the chef made it fresh, and the fish/shrimp were perfectly flaky/crunchy and not too greasy. Great portions too. If you're ordering fried food, I highly recommend dining-in (instead of taking out) for the fresh/crispy bites.

On the go Fish wrap + Southern Collard Greens
    Keana B.

I believe I ordered with the owner who was honestly lovely, she reminded me of straight to the point caring auntie or mom. I went ahead and got a side of Collard greens and a fish wrap, the fish wrap is honestly the most affordable meal on the menu, like other reviews I did notice I was charged a dollar more than what was advertised on the menu, the food came out concerningly fast although typically sides are premade usually fried fish is freshly fried, she will also ask you spicy or original the only difference is that they put siracha on the spicy I thought this was a little strange because Sriracha isn't soul food the wrap also had salsa which was again weird because this is supposed to be a soul food stand? I would expect for spicy that would mean it has a spicy batter that it's fried in + traditional Southern hot sauce. Upon receiving unfortunately I could smell the fishiness of the fish which means it wasn't fresh + the fish was chewy and dried out in some spots like it's been reheated or sitting out in a warmer for hours, the collards needed some salt, hot sauce and a little bit of vinegar to dress it up otherwise it was a bit bland/needed more flavor. I would love for this stand to do well but for the price point it's a little disappointing to receive fish that isn't fresh + pre-cooked and greens that needed more flavor. Also don't know how a wrap with salsa and Sriracha represents soul food. If this stand charged typical soul food prices and cooked with soul food flavors I think it would be a hit!

BLUF: Get the Uptown Combo. Harlem Seafood Soul started as an award-winning food truck in Harlem, Manhattan, and recently established this location in Williamsburg Market. While we were impressed with the Harlem Seafood Soul's Uptown Combo, other offerings were less satisfying. Dishes We've Had: - Uptown Combo: Very Good (4 of 5 stars). $25. The shrimp and fish are lightly breaded in what seems to be salt, pepper, and lemon; and expertly deep-fried, with little residual grease. - Buttermilk Chicken and Fries: Could Be Better (2 of 5 stars), considering the price. $16 for two drumettes, two wingettes, and a bunch of salt / pepper fries. The chicken had crispy, crunchy skin but the meat underneath was tasteless and slightly overcooked. There wasn't much flavor to the skin. The fries were good, though. - Fish Taco. OK (3.5 of 5). $8 for two very basic tacos that each consisted of a well-fried fish filet, what seemed to be cocktail sauce, and a dab of lettuce. We liked the fish and the amount of fish in the taco, but as a taco it was uninspired. Other: Williamsburg Market has a bank of unisex restrooms and complimentary Wi-Fi, but that Wi-Fi is not VPN-friendly.

Stumbled upon this gem while in the neighborhood to check out Artists and Flea nearby and got hungry. The counter is located on the right in the middle of the Williamsburg Market which has several eateries. Unclear about what to eat we walked around for a while and settled on this spot based on the reviews. It's a clean, well curated space with chill vibes. I ordered the shrimp po boy and my cousin had the catfish. Service was quite efficient and the food came out about 15 mins later, fresh cooked with loads of flavor bubbling in your mouth and belly. We ate all the things and ordered several dishes to go. Everything was a hit. Needless to say I'll def be back when I'm in the neighborhood on Thursdays. Price of the food, well in NYC, Williamsburg at that- average. The two meals with bottles of ice tea was about $40. Stop in you won't regret it.

The items I would recommend the most are iron steak, crab rangoon, blue crab, snow crab legs, and crawfish. The seafood is fresh, and if you love seafood, this AYCE meal is a good value for the variety and amount you get. There is no limit to how much you can order at a time; you can order as many rounds as you'd like. Service: Service is excellent here; staff are friendly and very attentive. They come to check on you throughout the meal and clear empty dishes. Food comes out very quickly after you place an order. The staff are also nice about giving you another menu to place another order. They are generous with their portions and food unlike other AYCE places that seem to not want you to order as much. Ambiance: The restaurant is big and spacious; seating is comfortable. There are tables and booths that can accommodate both small and large groups. The restaurant is kept clean, and the decor is very nice. During the warmer months, there's outdoor seating in Mongolian-style tents on the patio that overlooks Surf Avenue and Luna Park. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant if you like seafood!

Every dish was incredibly unique, featuring exquisite flavors that truly "dance" on the palate. The sauce was once again the highlight, and it paired perfectly with the potatoes. I told our server this when she asked if it was our first time dining here and she found it similarly puzzling. That said, this sentiment is one rarely expressed these days, as Saint Julivert's longevity puts it in what I'd imagine to be an exclusive, highly coveted class of restaurants that have stood the test of time in the face of changing trends, the pandemic, rent, etc. And perhaps more importantly, it has stood the test of time *and* maintained its high level of execution and quality. Saint Julivert is a neighborhood spot as memorable as it is unassuming. We came here at around 7:30pm on a Saturday night. I live quite far from Saint Julivert which is the main reason I hadn't gotten here before this past weekend. Luckily, a friend who recently moved to the area was having a party, describing the offered fare as "drinks and light bites" -- code for "not sufficient for dinner" and an opportunity to find a fun restaurant nearby to try beforehand. Walking up to Saint Julivert was a bit of a thrill for me -- both because of how long it's been on my radar and also because it's nestled on a block that otherwise seems completely residential. The space itself is much smaller than I imagined, very cozy, friendly, and down to earth. We had, in my opinion, one of the best seats in the house, which was a pair of high tops by the kitchen with loads of space for folks (read: us) who like to order a bunch of smaller plates to share. To start, we got a round of cocktails. I had to go with the Kanpai Martini (vodka, gin, shochu, cap corse, guindilla), as I pretty much always start with the martini if one is featured on the cocktail menu, and my partner got the Puerto Escondido (mezcal, beet, grapefruit, jalapeño) which is a super tasty spicy mezcal marg variation. I then tried the Diamond District (mezcal, persimmon liqueur, cocchi americano) which is a variation of one of my other go-to drinks, a white mezcal negroni. No complaints here. Food-wise, we obviously leaned into the seafood here heavily. Tried to sample as much variety as possible and I'd say we did a pretty impressive job. We weren't able to finish everything but we tried our very best. Truly everything was exceptional so my usual letter grades aren't all that necessary because it was As across the board. Eats, below: Amberjack w/ tomato water, crispy shallot, shiso oil Ideal first dish, definitely had some amuse bouche qualities, being both light and bright. The fish was incredibly fresh and the concept overall with sophisticated with use of texture and flavor that was impressive in its subtlety and execution. Chicory Salad w/ blue cheese, walnut, persimmon, coffee cider vinaigrette Our one veggie of the night and it was well worth our while, fresh winter greens with that tried and true blue cheese/walnut combo made unique by the coffee cider vinaigrette which emphasized the sweet and earthy notes of the dish and brought everything together beauitfully. Wild Shrimp w/ salted kumquat, poblano pepper, pomelo If I had to give an award to most unique of the night, it would have to go to this dish. I've had a dizzying amount of seafood over the years and I've been lucky enough try to a lot of different types of things in a lot of different types of ways and this one stands out. Something about the flavor and texture of the mostly-raw shrimp with the delicate and aromatic citrus elements. Just impossibly fresh, bright, and delicious. Octopus w/ pipián verde, roasted tomatillo juice, cucumber, serrano A preparation I'm used to seeing served warm but I enjoyed it cold just the same. The overall flavor profile was predictable but the elements contributing to it were less so. The green mole was delicious and overall this dish was a perfect bridge between the lighter and the richer, a segue so perfect it was as if it was divinely ordained. Squid a la Plancha w/ pine nut, maitake mushroom, tinta, poblano The first of two warm dishes we ordered. A nice complement to some of the lighter dishes we had earlier in the meal that were more aromatic/vegetal/gardenia vibes, this dish was earthier, more umami and grounding. Jerked Hamachi Collar w/ mango-pickle mayo, lime Hard to finish with this because it was probably the richest of the dishes and we were already somewhat full by this point, but I ate as much as I could because it was just that good. The mango-pickle mayo was just sublime, the fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned beautifully -- altogether a playful and powerful way to end the meal.

It was the $252.86 plus a TIP of $45.20! I immediately returned to discuss the discrepancies. The tip that was supposed to be $38 was now $45.20! The waitress then said she would credit my account. Tucked in the quiet end of Red Hook right by the water, is Brooklyn Crab - a lively, coastal shanty themed restaurant serving up some seafood favorites... but on a cold day in early February the abandoned and frozen tiki bar downstairs and the residue of snow salt on the staircase leading to the restaurant only served as a faint reminder of brighter, sunny days that await us this summer in New York. I plopped myself on the bar seating as cold gushes of air swept in with the opening door. The heating was struggling but so were we - it really was just that cold. However dire these conditions were, I was here for my weekly ritual - two dozen oysters on the half shell. Trish the bartender was a great sport. We chit chatted about the weather and her California upbringing and everything in between. She was great company and a delight to talk to. When the oyster platter arrived I was met with instant joy. Nicely sized oysters, neatly shucked, briny and beautiful with the accompaniments I like. A cold glass of beer I had been slowly working on in the background. They only have the $1 Sunday oyster happy hour during the winter months. Staff simply can't keep up with the shucking when it's busier. I deeply enjoyed this meal as the sun shined in the glass enclosure and it started to warm up. Far away I could see the waves crashing on the dock, as I guzzled down the ocean's perfect food. I also ordered the peel and eat shrimp and they were very good. Nicely seasoned, with ample amount of lemon wedges to make this meal truly one of a kind. This is one of the best oyster happy hours in Brooklyn, and even though I am traveling away from home right now, I can't wait to return and bask in this sunlit bar one last time this winter. I am much more of a foodie person than vibes (though vibes are also important) but if you come at off peak and off season (i.e. middle of day in the winter), it is not so busy and you can take advantage of their great happy hour deals. We got a little of the happy hour oysters and some appetizers but also got a burger (not on happy hour list). The oysters were great - super fresh, not fishy. Really refreshing. The fries and the burger were also really good. And the shrimp was soo flavorful. I think if we were to come again, would skip the wings - they were ok, though the service was really nice and allowed us to try two flavors (gave us separate sauces) - maybe if we had done just one flavor and let them sauce them themselves it would have been better? Super close to IKEA and unbeatable sunset views. Will definitely come again if every around the area.

The long mirrors on the walls made the space feel bigger and taller as well. First and foremost, I'm giving this place a 5 for the service as they really went above and beyond. It was not the occasional stop by to refill water and grab dirty plates. Our waiter provided great recommendations and offered me a small sample of a wine I had heard him recommend to another table after I had already ordered my orange wine. In terms of food, the bluefin tuna special was very fresh. We enjoyed the hush puppies and the swordfish belly. The fry basket had thin rectangularly shaped fries which were amazing. The only thing is I wish it came with more than two pieces of shrimp and two pieces of fish. The chargrilled oysters were also very good. Lastly they offered free bread pudding which was a perfect way to end the night.

Also tried a new drink, the Freaky French which was tasty. Service again was outstanding, and the meal was great. We'd skip the ribs though next time for the qty and price point. Blackened Swordfish Belly was absolutely delicious, definitely a new favorite. We will return!
