Wow, the bread here was insane. I have never finished even one piece of bread at a restaurant before, but here I ate two. Server was so friendly and gave us an extra refill of bread and even some to take home?! Insane level of service!! Crab cakes were delicious, crispy on the outside and a ton of crab. Both dishes were ordered were amazing (ribeye was very well done esp when compared to the steak we had on property for breakfast) and the hawaiian catch shrimp, lobster, and scallop were so tender. My husband and I visited Tidepools for appetizers and drinks late Friday evening, 8/21, during a little date night while visiting Kauai. We loved the experience so much that we came back two nights later, on 8/23, and brought our kids and their grandparents for our final dinner on the island. Tidepools is located at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, and the entire property is absolutely gorgeous. The lush tropical landscaping paired with the ocean views honestly looks like something straight out of a travel catalog. You hear the waves in the background, everything feels peaceful and relaxing, and then you arrive at Tidepools and somehow the restaurant takes the setting up another notch. For our family dinner, we sat beside an open area with tiki torches and beautiful open koi ponds directly next to our table, with the fish swimming right beside us. It made the experience especially magical for the kids. Everywhere you look reminds you that you are in the middle of a tropical paradise. It is incredibly romantic and peaceful, but what surprised me was how wonderful it was with our family as well. Our kids--even the toddlers--were smiling and enjoying themselves, and we genuinely had the best time. And the food was incredible! We started with the hamachi sashimi and loved it. The fish was incredibly fresh and the slices were nice and thick. We also ordered the lamb chops both nights because they were THAT good. The flavor was phenomenal, and I kept dipping them back into the sauce they were served with because I couldn't get enough of it. Both nights the chops came on the rarer side, and our server explained that this is intentionally how the restaurant prepares the dish. So if you prefer your lamb closer to medium, I would recommend mentioning it when you order. They were very accommodating and prepared them exactly as requested. For our main course, we had the Hawaiian Catch, and every bite was cooked perfectly. There were so many different flavors on the plate, yet everything worked beautifully together. The Molokai sweet potatoes--the purple sweet potatoes--were probably my favorite surprise of the meal. Absolutely delicious. The entrée portion was generous, although I wouldn't consider it large enough to share. Our kids can be pretty picky eaters, but they loved the kids' teriyaki. They also each ordered a different smoothie, which meant I naturally had to taste-test almost all of them , and every single one was delicious. For cocktails, I enjoyed Tidepools' take on the Mai Tai, but I also discovered a new favorite: the Lychee Martini. So good. We came to Tidepools expecting a romantic date-night spot and ended up loving it enough to return with our entire family just two days later. That probably says more than anything else I could write. Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful food, and one of those dining experiences that truly feels like Kauai. Big thanks to my wife for jumping on an opportunity to attend a conference at Grand Hyatt Kauai. After booking, I jumped on OpenTable to reserve Tidepools and luckily snagged one during our time here. Tidepools is absolutely a must-visit! Whether it is for the experience of dining on the water, upscale foods, or kind service, you have to splurge for at least one night on vacation! We had been to Tidepools together a few years ago, pre-kiddo, but this recent time was memorable thanks to the kind wait-staff. They had crayons for our little one, allowed us to walk around and view the fish nearby, and supplied us with delicious and fresh ube rolls, which our toddler loved (so much so that we had to take her actual kid's meal to-go). I ordered the Tai Chi, which is their version of the Mai Tai, and it was solid - great balance, and I almost ordered another one, but our little one was tired. To eat we got an appetizer of scallops, which was amazing - slightly sweet crust and juicy inside. My main dish was the ribeye, which was tender, cooked to my liking, and larger than I expected. We were greeted at Tidepools with an enthusiasm and level of hospitality that was unmatched. My girlfriend and I had been on the hunt for a blue cheese olive martini, and the staff actually went out of their way to personally escort us to the restaurant to make sure we found one. That level of service immediately set the tone for the evening. The appetizers were to die for, and our entrées were exceptional. What really made the evening stand out, though, was the service. From the bartending staff to the waiters and management, everyone went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of throughout the entire experience. A special shoutout to the manager and the entire Tidepools team for making an already beautiful dinner that much more memorable. They also have a large bar with tables to dine as another option if you didn't have any reservations. The food was really good and their ube bread was to die for. We had to try their galbi and the quality of meat was so good and flavorful. For our food we got the Hawaiian catch, the macadamia crusted mahi, and two kids meals. They were all yummy. I think what keeps it from 5 stars is the extremely high price tag. I think you are paying the premium for the resort and the atmosphere, which is fine, but the food itself is not worth the very steep price tag (around $65+ for an entree and $20 for cocktail). For a family of five, you could easily spend $400. This was a nice one time meal but we wouldn't go back due to the price tag and the food not up to what it costs. Because of the price, I would caution families to look at the menu ahead of time before dining. You can find the same/better food off resort without the resort price tag. read more

We came here twice on our family vacation to Kauai. We weren't staying at the Grand Hyatt, but our rental house was a short walk away. Our first time here was a date night for my wife and I. We had a 5:30 reservation. We arrived early and ordered some drinks at the bar. I got their Aloha Old Fashioned which is an Old Fashioned with a tropical twist and my wife had a Raspberry Lemondrop. The drinks were great. The ambiance of this place is top notch. All open air underneath tropical hut type structure with water all around and resort views. It's perfect. Food wise we split a Scallops appetizer. Very Good. For our entree we split a steak (filet), shrimp,and lobster combination. The food was excellent. Steak was cooked perfectly, and had a compound butter/red wine demi. We split items as we wanted to save room for dessert. My wife usually is limited in choices because she can'thave gluten, but they had a number of items on the dessert menu marked gluten free. We ordered the Coconut Cream Cheesecake and the Molten Chocolate Cake. Both were amazing. They also had a Macadamia Nut Creme Brulee marked gluten free as well. Great Job having those options. Our second visit was just for dessert and drinks with our kids as we wanted to bring our kids because two of them also can't have gluten, so we wanted to let them enjoy all the gluten free desserts. Our service on both nights was perfect. Price Wise definitely expensive but not as bad as some high-end steakhouses in other places I've been too. We said yes only to find out on our bill, it was an additional $15 to do so. I don't think we got any more food than if it was served on one. This was our second visit in two years to Tidepools. We left both times saying it was the best meal of our Hawaiian vacation. We are big fans of the show "The Bear"--dining at Tidepools is the closest we have been to experiencing that level of service. Our server was phenomenal--she immediately wished us a happy anniversary, offered to take our picture, and provided recommendations. Drink glasses were never below half full and plates were promptly cleared. The Crab Cake appetizer was divine. Full of crab instead of fillers with an amazing sauce. Turns out, it is their complimentary bread. Those ube Parmesan rolls are to die for. When a basket came while we were still perusing the menu, I ached to blast through five baskets of it and really had to hold myself back because otherwise how would I eat anything off the actual menu?? But really, warm, soft bread -- amazing. Review would have been 4 stars, but the bread garners an extra star. I ordered the Hawaiian Catch which apparently is their most popular dish. It includes a sampling of grilled seafood--a jumbo shrimp, scallop, lobster tail, and daily fish (it was swordfish, but I couldn't eat it due to pregnancy so they substituted with mahi mahi for me). This is over purple sweet potato and broccolini. It was delicious! Very much enjoyed being able to try multiple different seafood items. The fish was not as tender as I'd like, but everything else was good. The sweet potato and broccolini were good sides to the seafood--both yummy and not too salty. The service is outstanding, prompt and very well versed in their food suggestions. We had the crab cakes- mostly crab and the best I've ever eaten anywhere including Monterey and Carmel in CA. The entree Hawaiian Catch was superb- a combination of shrimp, scallop, lobster, and white fish on a bed of sweet potato and asparagus. It was outstanding. Let's just say the best part of the meal was the complementary bread: buttery fresh bread rolls swirled with taro -- Should've grabbed the rolls and left. We had the Tofu Pad Thai and the Hawaiian catch as our main entrées. Normally, I find pad Thai quite addicting; but didn't even want to finish this version. It did have a slight spice kick to it, but otherwise it wasn't that flavorful- the dish was a bit too wet with soppy vegetables and locked peanut flavor, which should be a highlight of the dish. The Hawaiian catch came with lobster fish, and a scallop and a shrimp. A fish was the driest cut of fish. I've had all week on the island, the rest of the seafood was alright . They do have a Keiki menu with beef, shrimp, and chicken options- my son's beef Keiki meal was better than our adult entrees ! Service was attentive. What a magical evening at Tidepools! The garden is absolutely breathtaking- lush, tropical, peaceful, and so beautifully designed. I made a reservation for me and my boyfriend about a month in advance and were able to snag a table for 6PM on a Monday. I was so amazed at the restaurant interior, all of the tables were surrounded by "Tidepools". From the look of it seemed like they could fit all sized groups. We dined on 3/23/26 for my birthday. We were asked upon being seated, if we were celebrating anything, and when they realized it was my birthday, they brought out a round of sparkling wine! Derek with a beard (I have to differentiate because there was another server named Derek working that night) was our server and he was phenomenal. The restaurant itself is beautifully constructed with each table in thatched-roof bungalows floating above a koi-filled lagoon at the base of a waterfall. It mainly has some modern Island dishes inspired by local ingredients and the rich culinary traditions of Hawaii. We got some really yummy fresh ube rolls to start which were pillowy soft. We also got the tofu pad Thai and the forbidden rice which were SOOO good. Our waitress was also so amazing and offered some great insight on the vegetarian dishes they had.
