PERFECT year round place to grab a delicious burger, salad, steak, clams...list goes on & on. This is a casual but classy bar/restaurant. Great view of the river, if you sit on the perimeter of the dining room next to the windows! Yes, it can be very noisy when it's crowded. I've had the fish tacos twice, because they are that good. Portions are plentiful. read more

Being a regular visitor all I can say is i am very disappointing with the food quality as of late. I cant put a date on it but approx 4-5 months ago the level of food quality has significantly dropped off. I regular order half pound of buffalo shrimp. It used to come nicely prepared with celery and carrots with blue cheese dressing. I literally have to beg the bartenders to provide me with the veggies anymore. Just a bowl full of shrimp in sauce... The last two times the shrimp was not properly deveined either. I am very sad because i love the atmosphere and the service is typically good. I must have visited for the first time on the wrong day, St Patrick's Day ... drinks seemed watered down and pricey ... they surprised me with how they define "scampi", seemed more like a boil. Despite some good marks from others, I will not revisit ... I cook better. read more

Four of us went to Harpoon Willy's for dinner recently on a Saturday night. I had the cod, 1 had steamed lobster and 2 had burgers. Everyone reported their food was delicious. The burger looked juicy and both people who had them raved about them. The cod was one of the best dinners I've had out in quite a while. We made reservations and were seated promptly, would highly recommend making reservations. Would have given Harpoon Willy's 5 stars but it was very noisy and hard to carry on conversation. Worst meal in years for my familly. I ordered tuna sashimi app for $12.50 the portion was so tiny it was a joke, it was the equvalant of less than 1 piece of sashimi at a sushi place. Me and my wife ordered the lobster sandwich that was mostly lettuce and 2 small pieces of lobster in each sandwich. My daughters who love french fries left there plate of fries full, unheard of. We had a terrible dinner experience at Harpoon Willy's last night. Waited approximately 1 hour 15 minutes for food to arrive, and then only 2 out of our 4 dinners came. My husband & I tried waiting to start on our dinners until our friends' food arrived ..... we waited and waited and waited. About 20 minutes after the first dinners arrived, the other two dinners finally came. They did comp our friends' two entrees, but should have comp'd all four dinners since our food got cold in the waiting. I ordered the roasted clams, which were tough & chewy. We felt bad for the waitress ... she kept apologizing for the long wait, but apparently the problem was in the kitchen. Just awful! Won't be going back there anytime soon. read more

I so want to love this place. It's alway packed. The drinks are stellar a good pour and a hood value. The food is the problem. We waited 45 minutes got our order. I got the seafood platter $26 the shrimp were smAll and over cooked the scallops were too. The clams were yummy. The place is very very loud and the kitchen seems to get lost in the weeds. Waiting hungry and drunk is a bit of a chore making this less than a pleasure. It's early May I won't come back till late fall. Perhaps with friends to distract from the painfully slow and poor kitchen. read more

I used to love Harpoon Wilys, yet the customer service has gone downhill. The wait staff is hurried and less than friendly now. The food is good, nothing special, good burgers, yet average food. The issue now is its gotten very busy, when you go there it is crowded and cramped - and you get a crappy table. Some of the tables face the windows and if the sun is going down the person facing the windows is blinded. You actually have to go out to the car and get your sunglasses and even then it is unpleasant. If the bar is crowded the noise from the bar is so loud you can't here the person you are conversing with and you are seating in the dining room. What used to be a place to go to get a decent meal, have really pleasant customer service and is comfortable is now a place that is busy and the wait staff is harried and stressed and not so pleasant. My family has gone there for years on a once a week basis, and now we are not going anymore. Its not pleasant anymore and regulars aren't appreciated. read more

We went here last night (Sunday). The place was packed but there was no wait. We ordered two martinis, One Grey Goose with a twist and one Stoli with olives. The waiter, Bill who was very good, returned with our drinks and questioned why I would order Stoli Orange with olives. Orange? I asked. "Stoli O he said. He took it back. Just a miscommunication I guess. Then I ordered the top neck clams off the menu. They brought tiny littlenecks instead. I said that was wrong and was told that is all they had. Why not ask me first if that's what I wanted? They went back too. Next came our main courses. My sesame tuna was cooked perfectly rare as I ordered it and was OK but not presented well. My wife ordered the Willy Whale which is supposed to be their "famous lump crab cake." That is far from the truth. It is crab meat shreds and at least 50 percent filler. It is served on a roll that is way to big for the crab cake. There was a slice of the type of tomato you get in the winter. Not the good on the vine tomatoes but the type that are hard and pale and have no tomato flavor. Seriously? It's Jersey. How about supporting the local farmers and give a slice of edible Jersey tomato. This sandwich is a big loser. I Half of it came home and I examined it under a loop this morning and what I said regarding the cake was confirmed. I would be embarrassed to put my business name on something that bad. Our server Bill was the only reason I did not give this place one star. I have lived within two miles of here for twenty years and this was my first visit. It will probably be that long before I return if ever. It does not matter. Places like this flourish by location and name recognition and whether or not I go back will not effect them at all. read more

I am so discouraged by my trip to Harpoon Willy"s yesterday! I have not been there in a few years, and my has the food changed! My husband took me there with our 5 year old daughter for a nice night out, and we ended up leaving indifferent about the bland and expensive entrees! My husband ordered the stuffed shrimp which where decent. I on the other hand ordered the 1/2 lb of scallops (12.00 for 6 scallops), with linguini (and extra $6.00) served "scampi style". (all ala cart, not even a salad like they used to serve w an entree?) I HAVE NEVER HAD MORE REPULSIVE SCAMPI SAUCE!.It was not even scampi sauce, it was more like unsalted garlic broth. No butter, no parsley, just a bland garlic-type soup? In addition to that, the server was LESS than enthused, and quite uninterested in our presence! Oh well, after our $96.00 dollar bill came, it was clear that would be the last bill we would ever pay @ Harpoon Willy's !!! Overpriced, under-flavored....miss the good "ol days....they are lucky the atmosphere is nice, because that is really all they have to offer. read more

I am a local that visits the restaurant all year long, around three of four times a month, with my wife. We always dine around 3 PM to avoid the crowds. I always have a house salad and a well done Filet Mignon. Usually the food is excellent and the service very good. For some reason, as summer approaches (maybe its the morons that are hired as summer help), both the food and service deteriorate greatly, especially on Mondays. The past two dining experiences (on Mondays) have been the same. The Filet Mignon takes 45 minutes to cook instead of the normal 20 minute wait. When it finally does arrive, it is cold and gristly. During the 45 minute wait the waitress totally ignores you, so if you need to refresh your drink, you have to go to the bar yourself. I have had enough of this terrible treatment and intend to avoid the restaurant entirely until fall again approaches. Yes, on the second event I did ask for the manager to report the terrible food and service, but was told that the manager had stepped out for a while. Avoid this place like the plague (especially on summer Mondays). read more
