The Sea Girt hang-out. Nice bar. Nice folks. Food only so-so. I guess I'd go back if I'm the neighborhood, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

A group of friends and I came here for lunch after a charity walk we did. We called ahead of time to see if they would accommodate, the lady who answered the phone was actually pretty rude to my friend and seemed like they didn't want the business. We went anyways because it was the closest place to where we were. When we went to the hostess she greeted us "do you see! It is a small place!" Mind you there were at least 6 empty tables and the bar had tons of spots. They split our group in two which we were actually okay with. Since it was a large group we wanted to make it quick for them. Once we knew our drink order we wanted to put in our food order as well. What was that for, when I told the waitress that we wanted to put our food order in as well she gave me such an attitude. To our surprise, the food was actually pretty good, everyone enjoyed what they ordered and considering we had a large group our food came out in a good amount of time. Service was not the greatest here but the food here is pretty good tho. Would I come back, absolutely not. read more

A very mixed experience during our last visit. My dining companion had the fish and chips, which he says is consistently the best fish and chips in the area. I had the Black Angus strip steak, which turned out to be a mistake (or should that be misteak?). This was a particularly thick cut and was cooked very unevenly. It also didn't seem to be a very good cut of meat, having a very odd, rubbery texture that I've never encountered in a steak before. I ordered mine smothered with mushrooms and onions, but it seems that whoever chopped the onions didn't remove the tough outer onion skins first, because a few of the onion strips felt like I was chewing on plastic (maybe it was) and I had to remove them from my mouth and leave them on my plate. My meal was so unsatisfactory that I left half of it on the plate, which was a huge disappointment given the $34 price tag for this entree. The server did offer a free beer or dessert to compensate, but we couldn't stick around, and so I declined. read more

Enjoyed a Stone Tap Takeover at Harrigan's with hubby & friends the other evening. We arrived early, 5:15 ish & were lucky to score 3 seats at the bar (although we were party of 4). This place is VERY popular & does get busy at the evening progresses. After ordering a flavorful Stone beer I ordered the sizzling steak, which I have had in the past, as well as sweet potato fries. This is one of their signature platters. I have to admit, although it was good, I recalled it as being better the last few times I had it (several years ago). It was a bit greasier than I remembered & was served on a different type of bread. Harrigan's is really a great neighborhood Irish bar & people are usually very friendly. Good happy hour. M-F 3-6. $5 appetizers. The first time I was here I had the hot pastrami. I didn't like it at all. I guess they have a new vendor or a change in the meat. I've been going to Harrigans for years but the last few have been better as they have upped the craft beer selection considerably. Too often you go to alleged beer-centric bars where the wait staff have no clue about beer. Oft times you ask them about a beer and they tell you it's dark or it's light; but guess what, color has very little to do with flavor. I digress but this did not happen tonight. Kara our waitress had an educated opinion on a few beers I asked her about. She obviously has some experience in actually tasting what Harrigans pours. She is an excellent server. I had an Arrogant Bastard and a Six Point Bengali IPA she recommended. Both fresh and good tasting. They have tap takeovers occasionally and beer specials on Thursdays. Harrigan's has pub food but they also have some decent dinners with the emphasis on Irish fare. Tonight I had a Roscommon Combo which was pastrami, turkey, russian dressing, with coleslaw on rye, which was good but would have been better if the rye bread were a little fresher. I've had it in the past and it was excellent. I've had fish entrees in the past and they were very good. Not a big place but has a very nice atmosphere with low ceilings with wood wainscoting and ceilings as well. It makes for a warm dining experience. The bar is oval and not too large so if you intend getting a seat at it, get there early as it is always crowded. read more

I had a disappointing experience at Harrigan's today, Friday, March 25, 2020.   I came in and found space available at the bar and took a seat at an empty stool with another to my right, hoping my husband would sit there.  To my left were no stools, but two empty pint classes with coasters on top. I didn't know what that was about. I sat for not less than 15 minutes, waiting to order a drink, ignored by two bartenders.  I noticed I was the only woman at the crowded bar.  Two men came in long after me, and when they sat to my right, one of the bartenders came over to them within seconds, and poured them drinks, but still didn't notice me.  The two men seemed also incredulous that i had been ignored.  They called the bartender's attention to me, and I ordered a beer with no complaint and asked for a menu. Later, two young men appeared to my left, and the second bartender came to me and told me I would have to give up my bar stool, because these men had been using it.  The stool was empty,  and was far from their empty drink glasses to my left.   I said, surprised, "You want me to get up and give them my seat?"  "Yes" said the bartender.  I said:  "This seat was empty and there was no drink with a coaster on top saving this seat. I don't understand?" "They moved the seat. Please get off the seat." I paid for my drink and left Harrigan's,  feeling extremely excluded and wondering what happened. read more

We love Harrigans...have been going for many years...but tonight was a very busy Sunday night and, on the fly, they made me the MOST incredible Shrimp Fra Diavlo over angel hair pasta!! I have never had this dish done so wonderfully! Place is awesome! Great bartenders, awesome burger, and it's super close to my place. The craft beer selections are always the best in the area. Awesome Carton's and Kane's. When in the Spring Lake area we often eat at Harrigan's. It has the atmosphere of a true Irish pub. The seating area is not extensive although we have never had a problem. The menu has standard selections, as well as daily specials. The bar seems to be the focus of the establishment. The servings are generous and very tasty. The staff is generally attentive. This pub serves a sizzling steak which is getting skimpier on the steak on a small piece of toast on a hot platter with fries in a dish on the hot plate. Iv been around here since 1990 and you used to get the whole plate layered with garlic toast and covered with steak and fries on the side. The now small steak platter now getting low on meat. Absolutely awesome place. People are friendly, funny, and intelligent. Authentic Irish pub with some of the best food on the shore. Sizzling steak or chicken is the way to go, but the turkey sligo is also outrageously good. Either way you'll leave with a full belly. Beer is ice cold, drinks are delicious. All around grand slam - and a classic one too. Place looks and feels the same as it has my entire life, I will be eating here for many, many moons to come. read more

Tuesday night with my 88 year old dad and husband. Enjoyed a bourbon Manhattan, a perfect Manhattan and a dirty gin martini. This is the first negative review I've ever written but I have to. Four of us had 6.30 reservations for Easter Dinner. Arriving at 6:25 the hostess advised us they were closing in five minutes but sat us anyway. Our waitress came over and said the same. She was apologetic but had no explanation. With no other options we quickly ordered. My French soup was charred and inedible as were the bacon wrapped scallops. We sent them back and she offered us a free dessert. Then dinner came which was grizzly and inedible sliced steak. The entire time we were there another waitress walked about loudly announcing " Were closing as soon as you all leave"! My poor mother in law was su upset she became sick when we left. I was so angry that evening I posted a negative review on Facebook. The next day I spoke with Casey the manager. She was apologetic and said I wasn't the first to call. It seems they decided on the early closing time a week prior but failed to change reservations. She offered me a gift card which I declined. Upon here insistence I agreed to try it again. 10!days later no gift card so I call and leave a message. She didn't return the call so I called again. She told me she had not sent out the promised gift card because two customers told her about my bad review and she was " taken aback". I advised her not nearly as taken aback as we were that night. She said she'd think about it and get back to me which hadn't happened. How does a restaurant manager offer something as a good will gesture then go back on that promise. I've worked in many restaurants and this is not how you handle this at all. What terrible management and lack of professionalism. There are plenty of restaurants willing to take my money and provide good service and respect. This is not one of them. Zero Stars. read more

My husband and I came here to eat at the bar for burger night. We were very disappointed. The bartender was rude, and my veggie burger was awful. When asked a question about a burger the bartender responded with "I'm just a button pusher". Good to know BC that would be why he was rude to us when we have been in their before and had him wait on us. We always tip well, too. My veggie burger "California Style" was not worth the money. It was a Boca burger. If I wanted a cheap frozen vegan pattie with soy cheese, I would have simply gone to the grocery store and heated it in my own microwave. I told the bartender that I was not going to eat it, and he seemed shocked, told the other bartender and never asked what the issue was, never offered to comp a drink or get something else for me. The reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 2 is BC just a few weeks prior we went for happy hour and got 2 great appetizers and a good mixed drink. Next time we will probably head over to the Tap House where a lot of their former customers go. read more

Been to Harrigans many time over the years and it never disappoints! Steeped out the Thursday before Christmas and the bar was very busy but seating was available in the dining room. I had the sizzling steak while my dinner partner had a burger. Both excellent and came as ordered. The steak should be ordered medium rare as it does continue to cook at the table. Had a blueberry lemonade vodka drink that was delicious. Price is reasonable and there was entertainment. Only negative was the noise level, can be hard to hear with the band playing. read more

Worst food ever. Shrimp cocktail was spoiled to the point of sliminess and mush. Crab cakes were dry and coconut shrimp was so greasy and too large for this type of presentation. They did refund my money without difficulty and the server was pleasant but didn't act surprised. read more

Not that there isn't room for many places like that. It's nice to have a place in the 'hood where you can get to know the staff and feel like a regular. NO DESSERT; GIVE ME THE CHECK......Thank you...goodby. Inasmuch as I wanted to give Harrigan's Pub 3 or 4 stars, in the end, I could not. After a great day at the beach in Belmar, we headed out for dinner. Hungry, with visions of either Spikes in Pt. Pleasant, or, Klein's in Belmar, we opted to give Harrigan's Pub a try instead, as we're always open for new dining experiences. The exterior of Harrigan's seemed appealing as well as the aroma of broiled steak as we exited the car. Anticipations for a great dinner soon ended after we were seated and our drinks and food were served. Regulars filled the bar area and a somewhat "old money" crowd began being seated in the dining areas. Our drink orders were filled quickly. Interestingly, they tasted a bit "off" which was odd considering the importance the bar plays at Harrigan's. Bread and butter were then brought to our table which brings me to this next segment of the review. I'm a bread and butter guy, before dinner. We know of many restaurants where their bread basket is an important part of the meal. This was not one of them. The bread was beyond tasteless. The size of the "loaf" was inconsistent with the pub. Not wanting to dwell on the bread, my score card was already bearing negatives. My wife ordered the blue cheese burger, minimal garnishing at best; flounder stuffed with crab meat for me. The presentation was acceptable. However, the veggies were undercooked. Knowing that I would not return, I elected not to have my dish sent back to the kitchen. I asked for tartar sauce. A good quantity was provided, yet I had to use my fork to transfer it onto my flounder as no spoon was furnished to do this. Small oversights like this annoy me to no end as I am reluctant to wave over our server for every little thing. For reference, Harrigan's website has their food and drink looking very appealing. Do not be fooled; their fare does not come out of the kitchen like the photos. Frankly, I believe there is much more potential for Harrigan's to be a destination Pub restaurant, yet they need to see how we serve it up in a Pub / Steak & Seafood restaurant in northern NJ to get it right! Next time: Spikes, Klein's, or even Avenue for sure! read more

Came here on a Tuesday eve with my husband. We'd had a long, hard bike ride in punishing winds. We were ready for a good meal. The sizzling steak was recommended to us but I wasn't feeling steak. Wish we'd gotten the steak. We ordered the "gourmet burger" and the fish and chips. The burger was wonderful. Juicy, tasty with battered fried onions cut real thin. The fish and chips were a waste of fish, grease, time, money. Sad. Just because a place is Irish doesn't mean they know fish and chips. However the service was wonderful and attentive. When my sweet as pie husband told the waiter about the disappointing fish he comped us a free dessert. Apple crisp a la mode. Pretty good. If you come here, get the red meat and beer.
