NO DESSERT; GIVE ME THE CHECK......Thank you...goodby. Inasmuch as I wanted to give Harrigan's Pub 3 or 4 stars, in the end, I could not. After a great day at the beach in Belmar, we headed out for dinner. Hungry, with visions of either Spikes in Pt. Pleasant, or, Klein's in Belmar, we opted to give Harrigan's Pub a try instead, as we're always open for new dining experiences. The exterior of Harrigan's seemed appealing as well as the aroma of broiled steak as we exited the car. Anticipations for a great dinner soon ended after we were seated and our drinks and food were served. Regulars filled the bar area and a somewhat "old money" crowd began being seated in the dining areas. Our drink orders were filled quickly. Interestingly, they tasted a bit "off" which was odd considering the importance the bar plays at Harrigan's. Bread and butter were then brought to our table which brings me to this next segment of the review. I'm a bread and butter guy, before dinner. We know of many restaurants where their bread basket is an important part of the meal. This was not one of them. The bread was beyond tasteless. The size of the "loaf" was inconsistent with the pub. Not wanting to dwell on the bread, my score card was already bearing negatives. My wife ordered the blue cheese burger, minimal garnishing at best; flounder stuffed with crab meat for me. The presentation was acceptable. However, the veggies were undercooked. Knowing that I would not return, I elected not to have my dish sent back to the kitchen. I asked for tartar sauce. A good quantity was provided, yet I had to use my fork to transfer it onto my flounder as no spoon was furnished to do this. Small oversights like this annoy me to no end as I am reluctant to wave over our server for every little thing. For reference, Harrigan's website has their food and drink looking very appealing. Do not be fooled; their fare does not come out of the kitchen like the photos. Frankly, I believe there is much more potential for Harrigan's to be a destination Pub restaurant, yet they need to see how we serve it up in a Pub / Steak & Seafood restaurant in northern NJ to get it right! Next time: Spikes, Klein's, or even Avenue for sure! read more

Came here on a Tuesday eve with my husband. We'd had a long, hard bike ride in punishing winds. We were ready for a good meal. The sizzling steak was recommended to us but I wasn't feeling steak. Wish we'd gotten the steak. We ordered the "gourmet burger" and the fish and chips. The burger was wonderful. Juicy, tasty with battered fried onions cut real thin. The fish and chips were a waste of fish, grease, time, money. Sad. Just because a place is Irish doesn't mean they know fish and chips. However the service was wonderful and attentive. When my sweet as pie husband told the waiter about the disappointing fish he comped us a free dessert. Apple crisp a la mode. Pretty good. If you come here, get the red meat and beer. Don't stray into "fancy". read more

We could not have had a better and happier time. Our server was gracious and polite, the beer menu had both old standbys and fresh delights, and the food we had--Waldorf salad, Manhattan clam chowder, crabcake, and nachos,-really hit the spot. There are lots of restaurants in the area but we chose this one on just a hunch and we were very glad we did. read more

Yummy pub good ambiance I got a chicken sandwich which was delicious- Cole slaw was super good, portion was large Also got a side salad which was fresh Husband got a burger which he thought was okay- nothing special. My parents and I come here quite often and always enjoy ourselves. It's moved higher on my list of options in the area since they expanded their craft beer offerings. For food, I usually go with their sizzling sliced steak or a burger. The sizzling steak is a staple here and you'll most likely hear quite a few orders of it coming out throughout your meal - that's for good reason. For drink, they have added quite a few craft beers on tap and bottled, and I can usually find one that I've been looking to try. While they don't carry any rare beers, they do carry some relatively uncommons that you don't see at every bar / restaurant. I believe they also do growler fills here if you're so inclined. The place always has a decent size crowd, even if you show up on a weekday afternoon. That's a good way to judge their food, drink, and service. In my book, Harrigan's is a solid option in the area and I'm sure we will continue to head here when we're in the mood for some sizzling steak and cold beer. read more

I went here today after driving around Monmouth county for a while looking for "something new" to try. I have an 8 month old daughter, so I needed a place where kids wouldn't bother anyone. We got wings and boom shrimp for an appetizer, I got the Kansas City burger and my husband got the whiskey pork chop. All of the food was great! The burger really hit the spot, and the wings were plump with a good hot sauce. On top of that, all of the staff were super friendly and helpful, waving at my daughter and just giving off a pleasant vibe. Very happy we stopped in! read more

Lively pub atmosphere, good food with large portion sizes. Good prices and decent selection of food and alcohol. Strangely, the only place I've ever been where they serve a vodka soda with a lemon rather than a lime. Our server, Devin, was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, always there when we needed. read more

Harrigans is the type of place that you want to eat at the bar, talk to strangers and watch a game or a band on a Saturday night. 16 beers on tap and they rotate local and seasonal beer. Best Bloody Mary around ! Great spot and a great owner. read more

Ate here last Friday with my wife and two kids. Service was great and food was good. However, the seating on the mini-second level is bizarre. My family ate in a row and were directly looking at a table of two having dinner. Awkward s to say the least. Food was decent, never had a bad time there but gotta do something about the seating (left corner) read more

Came on Wed night between Christmas and New Year, and we ate in the dining room. I can definitely see the appeal of the place...standard pub fare on the Jersey shore, a cozy bar area made for drinkin', tv's all over for watching sports, a pleasant casual decor, specials blackboard, happy hour deals, good selection of craft beers, dart boards, digital jukebox, etc. The service on this night was pleasant, if not a bit slow. So far as the food, it was ok but nothing special. Which is to say, just like all the other pubs in the area. We had burgers, steak sandwich, stuffed flounder...all the Jersey Shore staples. Not going show up on any "best of" lists for food. But a good place for drinks, eats, and watching sports. read more

If you have read any of my past reviews, you could maybe figure out that I love brunch and bloody Mary. When I came here it was no different. After a LONG night at Leggit's I needed my fix and was fully satisfied after coming here. At 2pm it was a little empty so my party of four grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered drinks right away. My bloody Mary was delicious!!!! Perfectly made with lots of horseradish, black pepper, celery, and olive juice. Along with that I ordered the Jersey burger which is topped with Taylor Ham and cheese. I opted to add a fried egg on top and it rocked my world. It could also be that I was very hungover, but still it was glorious. The other ordered the sizzlin' steak with onion crisps and fries which was also cooked very well. Too bad I live in North Jersey, or else I would be coming here every weekend! read more

Stopped here looking for a light dinner, as it was our first time here. What an awful experience! Every aspect of the dining experience was awful! From the wine glass that arrived covered in pink lipstick, to the wet, mushy microwaved stuffed mushrooms, to the wilted romaine in the Caesar salad, to the dressing which was so thick it was like goopy Mayo, to the croutons soaked in oil...we actually asked asked them to forget the salads, as they were inedible.: The waitress was sweet and apologetic but she was way overwhelmed. Where do I start? They handled Covid and social distancing perfectly, but more important, the food. I've traveled all over, these are by far the best fish and chips ever. Portion sizes are generous and perfectly cooked. The other plate was their market fish wrap. Wow! The combination of flavors and texture was outstanding. This is our annual trip and we try many places, I believe we'll eat here again this year. read more

This place is a joke. I basically had to harvest this account out of the archives because I don't like Yelp, but for this occasion I found it well worth the effort. They claim to be an Irish pub but didn't have any shepards pie, which I was craving and brought us here. We are locals and hadn't been here not heard of it before so I was excited. My fiancé and I were celebrating our anniversary and, on a Wednesday night, were promptly seated. I did see a bottle of Pellegrino on the table and was suspicious because I have heard of certain restaurants putting out bottles and charging exorbitant prices for it, so we joked about it and got sodas. My finance's meal was spectacular and he even asked the waitress to pay his compliments to the chef. I chose the fish and chips, and at $17 was very expensive. I did like that it came with a salad but it was your typical diner style, yellow leafed house salad (I'll get back to this later). When my meal arrived, I was very excited to see that the fish was large, but when I went to take a bite out of it, the whole thing dripped with oil, the fish was absolutely tasteless (I seriously could ONLY taste the oil), and the fish was undercooked. Seeing as if I were to reorder the fish it would come out either too crispy and solid, or the same because they weren't battering the fish right and their fryers were too hot and flash frying it ( I mean Come on it's just fish and chips). I told the waitress and she was polite and took it back. By then I already ate the bread, salad, and the "chips" portion of my entree so I passed and ate a side of mashed potatoes. It was a honest mistake, and I was just full. Then came the check. I was surprised to see that I was charged for the second round of sodas (4 sodas = $11!!!!!) and charged us $4 for my *free salad* that came with my entree. You've got to be f'ing kidding. We both had worked in restaurants our entire lives and know what kind of B.S. that was. How am I supposed to know beforehand that the meal I had ordered was going to end up a complete mess??? That had to be the most low ball, pathetic move I've ever seen at a restaurant. You may as well have told me to go f- myself. No humility. We were so offended we passed even getting the owner/manager because there was no point. Judging by the other low rates comments, this is not uncommon for this establishment. I will not return, which is a shame because I was really interested in coming back with friends for their craft beer selection (aka their saving grace) and Sunday football season. Following the AsburyPark St Patrick's parade, my friends and I continued with the day's theme by going for lunch to an Irish pub which had been recommended to me, Harrigan's in Sea Girt, NJ. The service was great and our server was attentive. The food was very yummy, the atmosphere comfortable and other patrons were friendly. If you're a cheeseburger fan, try a burger with cheddar, sautéed mushrooms and onions. (The roll was good, but a bit too large.) I'm planning to return to try their sizzling open steak sandwich which looked and smelled delightful. read more

went there yesterday for a late dinner with friends. we got there at 1030 there were only a few other tables in the dinning area. majority of the people were at the bar for drinks and live music (which was a very good cover band). even though there were only a couple other tables dining the service was pretty sub par. our first drinks and food came out fast. but service after that required fighting for waitress attention. she was more concentrated on cleaning up to get off then to refill our drinks. we even asked for a box for our left overs and never got it. even with the crappy service the food was only OK.not a terrible experience but ive had alot better read more

There for the first time last week, had the sizzling steak open sandwich, served on a hot plate - , fantastic! Steak cut french fries were perfect - crispy and hot. May not be enough food for some people especially teenagers/twentysomethings. Inexpensive and enjoyable evening. Highly recommend the place. read more

Only reason I came here was because a family member wanted to come, until then I've never heard of this place before. The staff seemed to appear quite flustered with a heavy afternoon crowd. I had the onion soup, very very typical pub style,it was ok. I was craving ribs since I have had any in a long time. Knowing better, I should've skipped them. They're boiled ribs, no seasoning and the pathetic excuse they call a sauce reminds me of the cherry glaze you put on a ham except this one tastes horrible. It's quite embarrassing. I don't understand places that serve ribs. Either put the proper time in to cook the food and smoke it right or don't serve it. You can tell this dish was made as cheaply as possible. Pub or not you should be served quality food. I for sure won't be back here ever again. My 2 cents. read more

My wife & I really enjoyed the sliced steak on butter/garlic toast points the 1st time we went. I had the roscocommon the next visit & it was very dry & not very big for the price. The last trip I ordered from their specials menu. I ordered the tbone steak w/ frizzled onions(asked for sauteed onions to cut calories). The steak was totally unseasoned & both of our mashed potatoes were stone cold. This is problematic for me. It was early & they were not packed as they get after 6pm. This place caters to the bar crowd totally. Service was good but product was underwhelming. Lots of specials for those who sit at the bar only. I will no longer go here as a Saturday night dinner destination. Poor execution on their food & a bit pricey. Kelly's or Clancey's in Neptune is are better choices. read more

Been coming here for years but tonight was a first. Ordered a sizzling steak, and there was no sizzle. It must have been sitting in the kitchen a while. Ordered a certain beer and got what ever the waitress wanted to give us. 1.50 on kids drink refills. What's going on here? Weak service and Luke warm food. We had a rare night out and picked Harrigans over Reef and Barrel and it wasn't too packed during early dinner time on a Friday. We sat at the bar for apps and the bartenders were nice and attentive, hence the two stars but I've had better apps at Applebee's. The spinach dip is un-chopped lumps of spinach with layers of unidentifiable cheese on top and lacking flavor. No Bueno. And you can get better buffalo wings....anywhere. We asked for them to be hot and they put hot pepper flakes on them to spice it up. Otherwise it was just a flavorless thin coating on the wings. Harrigan's Pub is a great little restaurant that never fails to provide a good, clean, inexpensive meal. The portion sizes are good in size and very filling. They always have a ton of specials to choose from and the staff really cares, AND they work their butts off! My family goes here all the time. They've screwed up an order on more than one occasion... They are always very quick to apologize and send you out your new food right away. And that usually happens when they're busy so... It happens. Great beer selection... Perfect spot if you're just looking to have a solid pub meal and a nice beer. read more

Cute little Irish pub. Waitress was nice and selection of craft beers great. Salad was huge and onion rings delicious. George had the sizzling steak which he enjoyed but wished he was told to keep moving the steak so it wouldn't burn on the hot plate. I had the fried calamari with flounder. Flounder was fresh and tasty but the calamari was not cooked enough. It was mushy and cocktail sauce was straight horseradish. My dinner was served without the potatoes. The waitress said they had to put the fries on. That was a bit disappointing since I was half done by the time the fries came out. read more
