I drove several hours and was craving a great steak, so I decided to give Harris Steakhouse a try. What a massive disappointment. I ordered their prime ribeye, expecting a high-quality cut with a proper sear. Instead, it looked and tasted like a boiled steak. There was zero crust or flavor, and it wasn't tender at all--it was tough and a chore to eat. For a place that calls itself a steakhouse, serving a prime cut this poorly executed is unacceptable. My two boys and I were staying at the resort. Upon checking in, I was asked if I wanted a room service menu and I said no we'll just go to the restaurant (I didn't know there were two restaurants and wasn't given any information). She said ok. (Without telling me the steakhouse required reservations). At 7:50pm we went to the steakhouse and the hostess was incredibly unwelcoming and arrogant. She told me I needed a reservation. I looked around at the half empty restaurant and she said all of those tables have reservations on them. She also said there weren't any openings until at least 8:45pm or maybe not at all. I walked outside, took out my phone, saw many reservations pop up for that evening and made a reservation for 8:15. When I returned at 8:15am she then told me kids weren't allowed in the front section and that we would have to wait for an upper table to open up. I told her she never mentioned that and she just glared at me. When I sat out front waiting another 15 minutes with my young kids, I counted 7 open tables in the upper part she referred to. At 8:30pm I came back again inquiring about our table. She ended up seating us in the "adults only" area for some reason. It was all incredibly strange, uncomfortable and unprofessional. It was very clear she didn't want us (or maybe the kids??) there. My bill was $150.00 so it's not like we were just getting milk and cookies. The food was just eh. We were very excited to eat there and left feeling really icky. The room was old and dated but the pool was phenomenal! This will be a one and done for me. read more

Outstanding customer service and a true oasis experience. This was my second stay at Harris Ranch Resort, and this visit was even more incredible than the first. From check-in, the customer service stood out immediately--homemade cookies at arrival, staff helping with luggage via cart, and seamless assistance throughout the property. Everything felt effortless and taken care of. The staff consistently went above and beyond. I was offered golf cart transportation to and from the restaurant, and whenever I needed a ride back, it was handled quickly and kindly. That level of attentiveness made the entire stay feel easy and relaxing. The room was immaculate and very comfortable, with thoughtful touches like a Keurig machine, fresh brewed coffee downstairs, and a refrigerator. When I needed a microwave, one was brought up right away without issue. The property itself is beautiful and peaceful--pool, jacuzzi, palm trees, and a quiet, relaxing atmosphere at night under the stars. It genuinely feels like an oasis. Harris Ranch sets a high bar for hospitality. I would absolutely return again. read more

This review is for the Harris Ranch Restaurant. Plenty of parking and charging for electric cars. Very child friendly. We were given adult and kid menus along with crayons. We tried the filet steak and eggs and came with biscuits. Also ordered a bagel and cream cheese. Also tried the berry boost juice and root beer float. I love Harris Ranch. A big part of it is the ambiance. It's a fun stop for dinner on a road trip. During the Christmas season it's quite magical and pretty. The service is usually very good. There's a bar in addition to the steakhouse, which looks fun. It has a different menu than the steakhouse, and I haven't tried it yet. There's a nice gift shop, and you can also buy steaks and seasoning to take home and cook as well. The last time I was there I decided to go for the Wagyu steak which was over $100. It was supposed to be incredibly tender and I wanted to try it. I ordered it medium rare. It came out medium well and it was really not that great. They redid it for me, but it came out rare. It was ok but not amazing. This was the only time that I was disappointed at Harris Ranch. The NY Strip has always been really good (and less expensive). I will definitely return, despite this last visit having the bummer steak experience. I won't order the Wagyu. In addition to the restaurant, they also have another spot by the gas station which serves BBQ. Harris Ranch may not be the TOP steakhouse around, but it's got a nice warm family atmosphere, very solid food, and a classy vibe in the main dining room. read more

We have eaten at the sit down restaurants & the bbq express many times over the last few decades and hopefully many more. They have never disappoint. The food has been consistently good. HRR is a good spot to stop & take a breather between here and SoCal besides the Tejon Ranch Outlets. The table service in the restaurant can sometimes be touch & go as in one could feel rushed but the staff are not unfriendly, they do not mean to as there are demanding and rude customers for every complaint of underperforming staff. I feel the staff here are trained to be mindful that diners are generally anxious, tired, agitated, confused and hungry motorists/tourists/travelers so they are as friendly and efficient as possible. Harris Ranch beef is known all over CA, heck, I see their products at my local Safeway or is it Lucky, not sure. read more

"This was a place we had wanted to try for a long time, and we actually planned part of our trip around dining here. Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of expectations. Even though it was only eight p.m. and the restaurant was far from busy, the hostess seated us at a small table in a high-traffic area. The lamb chops were particularly disappointing. We learned that one of the worst things you can do to such a flavorful cut of meat is bread it and deep-fry it. It completely masked the quality and taste of the lamb. It's disappointing to even mention details like the lemon wedges in the salad being full of seeds. In fact, the steak was the only dish at our table that was properly cooked and well presented. I also hope they reconsider the pea risotto-like side served beneath the lamb. The texture and flavor did not complement the dish and detracted from the overall experience. My family and I have been coming to this restaurant since we were little! Every time we go to SoCal we always stop here! The waitstaff and hosts are always so kind and welcoming! We usually opt in for their casual dining since we're in our comfier clothes or pjs even. The menu is perfect, has a little bit of everything! The food is so fresh and their complimentary bread is absolutely delicious! Everything is clean and well kept, bathrooms are super clean and the floors as well. It's always fun eating here because after you can walk around their gift shop and even purchase the wines they offer and meat to take home!! They even have desserts and pastries available too along with other cute gifts. Due to it being the Christmas holiday season, it's decorated so cute inside with Christmas trees, ornaments and garland everywhere. It's adorable! This is more of a review from a rest stop point of view, since we didn't really eat there or stay there overnight. However, this is a great place for a rest stop. We charged my boyfriend's Tesla here since there are a couple charging stations and the bathrooms were quite clean and there were a lot of stalls. During the Christmas time, there are SO many decorations everywhere, from top to bottom from the outside area, the lobby, the side entrance, and all throughout the gift shop and hallway too. The decorations were also themed as well, with some more religious decor, pink Christmas, Mrs. Claus themed, elves themed, animals themed, and so much more. It really brought forth a feeling of Christmas wonder and magic, so if you're travelling up or down during the holiday season, this is a must stop. Additionally, the gift shop not only has neat trinkets, but also some pretty unique goods like dry mixes for soups, hot sauces, honey and jams, fresh cut deli meats, nuts, ice cream, baked goods, and so much more! You can easily kill an hour or so here if you need to charge or freshen up before hitting the road again. read more

This is a rather late review but I think it's worth sharing anyway. We stopped by on our way to LA. This was my second time here and this time we went to the Harris BBQ. The line was long but moved fast. I was with a company of 3 and we all enjoyed our food. We ordered Santa Maria classic BBQ tri-tip, salads and smoked meats on the side. Their beef tip salad was an absolute winner! I am not a fan of beef meat but this was an exception for me. I think because the beef was crispy, it came as a whole different experience for me. We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon with our family while hauling our travel trailer, planning to enjoy some coffee, pastries, and a quick restroom break. Since we were towing, I parked along the side of the restaurant to give myself enough room to maneuver safely. We had been parked for maybe three minutes when a silver security vehicle pulled up. A young man stepped out and asked if we were planning to sleep there for the night -- this was around 3pm. I told him we were just stopping for a short break. Without another word, he got back in his car and drove off. I understand that Harris Ranch now has an RV park and likely wants to prevent people from staying on the property without paying. That makes sense. However, there's definitely a better way to approach customers or potential customers. A simple, friendly explanation like, "Just so you know, we have a full hookup RV park if you're interested in staying overnight. Here are the rates," would have gone a long way. Instead, it felt like we were being assumed guilty of something before even stepping inside. We've stopped here many times in the past and have always had incredible experiences. As usual, the pastries and coffee were delicious. The interaction with security just felt a bit awkward and unnecessary. read more

Had a really nice stay here. The resort is beautiful and relaxing, just what I needed. First, a big THANK YOU to Christian (Chris) for his wonderful customer service. He helped us get to our room and get settled. He also provided great service in the pool area. Now to the bad part. Room service was awful! I ordered a Chinese chicken salad, but it didn't come with the chicken. That should've been our first clue. The next morning my friend and I ordered Denver omelettes. I wanted the traditional omelette with ham and she wanted bacon. We had to send her omelette back twice. Finally we asked are the using Canadian bacon. They said no and they would bring another omelette. Well we never received it. No call no show! Totally unacceptable! Finally we went to the restaurant and to our chagrin they had the BEST bacon! Stopped at Harris Ranch to try and repeat our previous experience. This time around was just ok, so I wanted to review what we did the previous time. Upon review, we didn't get warm bread rolls this time! That was a hit the previous time, so I'd recommend asking the server about those. Portions are massive, so I would still go with the Prime Rib with split plate charge. The charge is $9.95, but you get an additional soup and side. Kids meals are normal sized adult portions - so that's a good deal. Thought the tri-tip was reasonable. I would recommend avoiding the grilled chicken. That was way overcooked. read more

I was stoked to try Rocky Mountain oysters. They were fine but I'm wondering if these would be delicious prepared by someone else. Service was great. My daughter's tri tip dip was okay. My husband's chicken sandwich was so-so (but why order chicken at a steakhouse?). I was glad to finally try this restaurant but if you drive by the Harris Ranch feed lot, you'll wonder why you would be excited to eat the meat of those cows, living in their own filth, but I digress. All in all, I'd say that, for I-5 eateries, the Mission del Oro is far and away the best with many offerings being quite tempting. Anderson's Pea Soup is a distant distant second and Harris Ranch is right behind that. The Haris Ranch gift shop is fun, however, and they do have grab and go sandwiches, which is what I'd get next time. read more

Came in here on a Sunday evening for dinner we walked in. We were kind of confused because of the hours posted on the menu and on yelp it stated that they were open from 5 to 10 when we walked in the bar area was fully open and the restaurant was also open so that was a total loss. The other thing is when we asked the young lady at the front. It's like she didn't know what to say. She seemed confused. Well anyways we got to be seated in the bar area and there was a couple right behind me. They came in fighting and he pulled his chair and hit mine. He didn't even apologize he was fighting with his wife the whole time we were having dinner he made it so uncomfortable and then he would get up to walk out. The wife would get up to walk out and he was being very rude to the waiter and they even had to bring the manager in. I don't even know if these people paid for their meal which is none of my concern but to walk into a nice decent restaurant for dinner and to be seated next to these people that don't know how to act they should've set them in the corner way in the back, but anyways the place is beautiful. It's very clean. They have a lot of staff the prices were fine. It's just that that couple made my dinner not peaceful at all and very uncomfortable I was just waiting for a fight to break out. Very disappointing experience. From the moment the bartender saw that we had a 3-year-old child with us, her attitude completely changed. She was rude, dismissive, and made us feel unwelcome. She also gave us inconsistent information about the restaurant's hours, which felt misleading. First, she told us to wait 30 minutes, then it became an hour, then an hour and a half. After that, she said it would only be another 20 minutes. The constantly changing wait times and poor attitude made the experience very frustrating. Stopped in during a long Christmas Eve drive and were greeted by cheerful and friendly staff from the country store all the way to the main dining room. We've stopped in before, but never on a major holiday, and were pleasantly surprised by plentiful parking and quick service. It definitely feels a bit over the top (does one resort need what feels like 40 Tesla chargers and just as many gas pumps? How about 20 lit Christmas trees as you walk through the main hallway?), but it certainly makes for an entertaining stop if you have a group who have been trapped in the car along I-5 for what feels like ages. Our meal was delightful. Fully expecting only the quick service lounge to be available, our family was hoping for either the steakhouse or the main dining room to be open. We got lucky with the latter, and sat down to fresh pressed OJ, pleasant cocktails (mostly ice so I would pass in the future), and hot coffees and waters all around. The waitstaff and assistant brought us bread after we had ordered, and as soon as we finished our rolls, our meals can right out. Timing was impeccable! And the staff were excellent about checking in with us and refilling beverages as needed. Prime rib was top notch, and we loved the complement of veggies and a side of soup. Our table also shared the spinach salad with peppercorn dressing, which was refreshing. The chuckwagon soup was average (could use additional spices or something other than just salt and pepper), but the bowl is a great portion of veggies if you've been subsisting on fast food for the past few days. I had the pot roast, which was so tender and fell right apart as I forked it into smaller pieces. Honestly, I would order this again, I felt indulgent with how little I had to work for my meal. Thank you to the Harris Ranch team for a delightful Noche Buena meal, and a great break during a long drive.
