I went to purchase a sandwich from the deli. A woman with the name tag "Kim" walked over from the floor, went to the sink, ran the water over her hands for 10 seconds, never bothering to use soap, then walks back to put on plastic gloves only to handle the exterior of them with her dirty hands then proceeded to make me a sandwich. Absolutely disgusting with a disgusting attitude to go with her substandard food safety practices. Needless to say, I left without buying it. read more

Normally I would rate this store a "5" but today, for some reason, there were few packages of berries in the store excluding organic berries. By this I mean only 2 packs of strawberries, 0 packs of blueberries. I also went to select a cantaloupe of which there were only 2. One was split and completely soft and squishy. I really have always enjoyed shopping at Harris Teeter. I asked my daughter who shopped at the South Riding store to check that Harris Teeter and the pictures she sent me of the berry department showed numerous packs of all kinds of berries. I only hope this may have been one unfortunate event at my Harris Teeter. read more

I shop here (6-8) times per month. So I was hesitant to post a negative review. But this visit left me angry so I decided to share my experience. Everything was great up until the point of checking out. I had everything separated in different bags as I was shopping for a (90) year old woman who I help from time to time. The clerk seemed put off by this and threw my purchases around with little care of how they ended up. I glanced up at the screen and noticed that she had charged me twice on a couple of items in her rush to get me thru the line. I politely let her know and she made the corrections, saying nothing and offering no apology. The rest of the experience was done in silence. When I got home, everything was upside down. I took everything apart and re-bagged the groceries for my elderly friend before delivering them to her home. It's a shame because I enjoy HT among all my other choices in the area. This episode can be verified as it happened on Thursday February 27th at 3:30pm with an employee named Jeanette. It's nothing personal but it's such an easy fix. I bagged groceries when I was (12) years old. It's not that difficult but it seems like a lost art with some of your people. The cashier is the customer's last contact in their shopping experience. It is the final impression that they are left with. I think you guys can do better. read more

They are ok in general but they still use stone age systems. I think they need to hire an IT person. 1. They don't accept apple pay. 2. They don't offer contactless payments (like tapping the card instead of insetting) 3. It takes longer than usual for the payment to go through 4. They have very limited range of organic options 5. They have a confusing layout/process in the cashier area. People get confused which side she should go and which side the cart should go. I wish they can fix these issues to provide a more efficient and pleasant experience. read more

Three stars because the produce is usually decent and when there is a VIC sale, prices are good. Kudos to their daily hot deli specials- pork loin, turkey breast, chicken etc. Their subs are decent though prices have gone up. I remember the $5 foot long Friday's and sub rewards. The store is also well lighted and clean. In store Starbucks is a nice touch and Debbie at the checkout is one of my favorite cashiers. Have known her for years. Cons- non VIC items are pricier than other stores, limited organic section, slow and limited service at checkout and the deli. It took one lady 15 minutes to give me 1/3 lb of ham and turkey. It's hard to find good produce these days but HT needs to pay more attention to the wasted/expired produce in their store. Nobody wants to look at brown wilted green beans! Take it off your shelves! I also used to go there specifically for their Boars head deli meats and cheese and they never slice it how I ask, and is always just thrown in the bag very sloppy. When they advertise their weekly specials, they are almost always sold out same day or they didn't have the product to begin with. I keep coming back because the staff is nice and it's convenient. When this store opened, I had such high hopes. And for several years, it was a terrific store. Over the past few months, however, things have unraveled. The produce is sparse, and when it's there, it may be spoiled. I found hearts of palm in the shelf that had expired a year before. Private labeled products are replacing brand names (Vlasic pickles, for example). The most recent rotisserie chicken I bought was nearly raw, and the Arnold bread I bought was moldy. I'm not sure what changed, but with Giant only a mile away--a store that has undergone a massive renovation--I'm no longer a HT customer. Oh! And let's not forget their policy to demand identification to buy a bottle of vermouth AFTER they had already offered me my senior discount. The place needs a new manager. read more

I looked for what was fresh, exotic, and what was in the Cooking Light magazine that I wanted to try. Now that's changed for me. In addition to the obligatory bi-monthly Costco run, I now plan dinner meals, packed lunches, and breakfast/snacks on the run with an eye to budget and kid-friendliness and a deep respect for a well-laid out, time-saving grocery shopping experience. Enter Harris Teeter. I listed my top three likes below: First perk: Convenience. Hooray for the drive-through shopping experience. You can order online and pick it up out front of the store. You can still save with your VIC card and don't have to undertake the odyssey of navigating the aisles to pick up your weekly needs. Screaming kids? No problem. You don't have to drag them through the store, as the HT staff will come to your car and load your groceries. It's $5.00 per order or you can buy by the month or year unlimited. Second perk: VALUE. HT carries quality brands and even their store brand is quite decent on most things I've tried. If you have a bit of flexibility with your meal planning, the weekly ads have so many B1G1F and discounted items, you can save considerably. \Items on sale aren't the "expires tomorrow", "couldn't sell it", unusual variety, rather they are items you use and need every day. The first time a manager had to use their key in the register because we had saved over $100 with the VIC card, we were a little taken aback. Now it's almost a source of pride. Third Perk: Layout and organization. The store is actually laid out in an intelligible, easy-to navigate floor plan. You can register for an account and do your grocery list online, even if you shop in the store. The list is emailed to you (or you can print it) and aggregated by section-- so you can see where you have to go to get whatever item is on your list. Sensible, convenient, navigable... it's like they've given this some thought and planned your experience so that you can spend the least amount of time looking for the things you need. read more

I'm with Brandi K. This HT is fabulous! I've now decided that I will always do my grocery shopping at 7:30 in the morning. Why? Because for just $2.49 you can get a made to order egg, cheese, (and meat) sandwich on a bagel, biscuit, roll, or croissant . You can also add a HT orange juice for just $0.50 more! (Must use your VIC card for the orange juice deal). They have six round tables nearby in the front of the store so you can eat in or take out.. And... at 7:30 in the morning you have the whole store practically to yourself! Now, as much as I love this location, I probably wont be back because I'm a Marylander, and I so rarely cross The River. I had a conference at the Hilton Garden Inn across the street, and I purposely arrived early to get my breakfast here. Again, as Brandi stated, this store is clean and organized. It's bright and cheery too. As you enter, the first thing you see is the produce. Everything is fresh, and I love that I was able to purchase ripe avocados. I hate having to wait for them to ripen. I really like Harris Teeter and only get a chance to shop there when I visit Ashburn. My only complaint is that there is no location in the Springfield/Burke area. SO, because I get the eVic specials, I tempt myself by reading the specials. I then complain that I don't drive out to a location. Today was different. Since we were homebound for the weekend, we needed food. The specials this week were too good to pass. So, off we trotted to a grocery store that was 15+ miles away. There was a greeter at the door at 9am. Plus! The specials are amazing, and I can say that because I only buy junk food. We don't cook much but we do buy cheese, bacon and chips! This week was the special for all that yumminess. The big draw for this drive was Cage Free eggs. They were incredibly priced well, BUT they had no stock. So, even with a raincheck in hand, I was disappointed and will have to come back to get my eggs. This store was clean and the checkers were quick. If we ever get the urge to hike 15+ miles to a HT, then we will definitely be back. read more

Harris Teeters used to be a special place, especially with the free sugar cookies, the frozen sugar cookies, and the pre-baked sugar cookies. Did I mention the sugar cookies yet? Unfortunately, though, Harris Teeters hasn't been keeping up with the times. With competition from Wegman's, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, this Harris Teeters doesn't have much to offer. The produce was actually rotting at this store. In fact, they had a huge counter of discounted "almost spoiled" food. Everything else was extremely expensive. The lines were also incredibly long - even the self-pay registers were having issues. read more

Very convientent location right off route 50 towards Chantilly. Its usually empty inside the store and empty outside in the parking lot. Great prices especially with the VIC card, you get emails about deals for the week and coupons come in the meal! There are also many days where they offer to double your coupons which saves you alot of money! The best thing here are the subs. You can rack up sub points and get a free sub, I think if you get over 15 points. The sub at this location is always on point and the ladies who make them hook it up with meat and toppings! Really amazing customer service here, employees are always helpful and don't just tell you which isle to go to, they walk you there. Harris Teeter is an upscale Giant with a great wine and beer selection but definitely not as pricey as Wegmens. The best thing is this location is 24 hours! So anything you need anytime off the day this place is open! I only wish the sub place was open 24 hours also because my ass would be in here at 2 am asking for a steak and cheese please!! read more

I have feel in love with Harris Teeter as soon as moved to the NOVA area. I love the fact that they have a nice variety of foods but like others I don't like paying the higher prices. I do have to watch the ads and my VIC card for the best deals. I normally buy only certain items here and when stuff that I use goes on sale. This location is opened in a newer area so I do like that part of it with plenty of parking. I did think the store was kept rather colder than other HT's that I have been too. In general, I love Harris Teeter, I just find this location to be mediocre and lackluster. The one that used to be located in Fairfax City was wonderful and an amazing store. When it moved, I thought I had lost my best friend. I made the trip to the one on Columbia Pike and Pentagon City until this location opened. I was thrilled when this location opened, but initially found higher prices and lackluster service among employees. I stopped going and started visiting other area stores. I haven't gone back, but may give it another try before completely giving up on this location. Best part of this store is the layout, which is much better than the old Fairfax City location. Yes, a small burb east of Charlotte, NC that happens to be the HQ of H&T. I still remember my 1st visit to our neighborhood grocery, I had to find replacement caps for my 1st cap gun, age six, truly a coming of age story. Harris & Teeter came thru and delivered & I will forever be grateful! This is the defacto grocery for those of us who want more than Giant or Shoppers and less than Wholefoods. They have all the brands I've become connected with over the years. Selection, selection, selection. Get a Vic card and save! Easy access off Route 50 between 7100 & Ox Rd. Normally a great place, no problems, but today the manager and employee decided to try and lie to me about my coupons during the super doubles stating that my coupons won't work and there's no way for them to pull up my transaction from yesterday to verify anything. It's okay though, I won't be back to this store, and for the record, the coupons DO double. I come here occasionally because the stuffs are not as expensive as I thought. They usually have coupons/ discounts every week. I also use their app to view their weekly ads and discounts. This visit was not what I expected. I found their EZ shrimp coupon on the app. I read it as buy one bag get one bag for $14.99; bag is 32 oz (2lb). Apparently I was wrong... the ads were misleading and unclear. The price is actually doubled because $14.99 is for 1lb. Well no thanks. I can get the same shrimp quality elsewhere. Form now on, I will definitely be more careful next time. read more

I confess. I have a love hate relationship with the Harris Teeter chain. They just do not carry enough organic fresh or frozen veggies. The produce selection is sub par. It is not uncommon to find damaged and over ripened produce. The prices tend to be more than the other chains. These are major flaws for the chain as a whole and yet I find myself trying a different franchise thinking that this one will be different than all the others I have shopped at. I have yet to be shocked for the positive. The employees are friendly but I need more than employees who greet me with a smile. I want tomatoes that are firm to the touch and aren't oozing. I want organic veggies that look like the health department won't give the store a citation. Sadly, Harris Teeter will never be my preferred grocery store chain (that is, unless the corporate ethos changes and they rectify their major flaws). read more

Oh, how I love thee, Harris Teeter, let me count the ways... 1. Great location for me. In this, I think location is a hidden gem. It's never crowded & I've never had to wait in line. Most visits I'm in & out within 5-10min, but I know what I'm looking for. Easy Peasy. 2. Clean, organized, always stocked & well lit. 3. Competitive prices! MOST items that I buy regularly are cheaper here. Especially booze... Don't judge me!!! However, meats & dog food seem to be exceptionally overpriced. Go figure. 4. SUB SHOP!!! My most favorite part. Until I can post a pic of the signage, just google "Harris teeter sub shop" and check out all the goodies they can quickly whip up for you. Subway, Wegmans samwhich shop, Quiznos (& ect) be damned! This shop gives you better bread, meats, cheeses, toppings & they don't hold back. Also the prices are incomparable. Especially on deal days! On Tuesdays all 1/2 subs are $3.49 & on Fridays all whole subs are $4.99!!! Half is enough to fill you up; a whole will make you sinfully happy. Don't forget your VIC card either... You rack up points for buying subs. 15 points = 1 FREE! Unfortunately, I do have ONE gripe... I have a somewhat crazy schedule which brought me to HT super early one morning (530am). I was working a 12hr shift & hoping to grab breakfast & lunch for the day. By 540am, I was at the register all ready to check-out with my items. Well... There was no salesperson to get me rung up & out the door. So I waited patiently. And then not-so patiently. 10 mins later, after calling out to anyone who might hear & waiving my arms around for someone possibly looking at cameras... I left my items at the register & left. Without food for the day & no time left to stop anywhere else. C'mon, HT!!! You're 24hrs, so serve your customers for all 24 of those hours! read more

The Fairfax store is in a strip shopping center with just a handful of other stores, so there's always plenty of parking. * Produce - mostly okay, although it could be fresher. Some limited options, like no single lemons (bags of multiple ones only) and a smaller organics section. * Prepared foods - sushi is fresh and okay; salad bar is average. * Meats - good prices if you can catch a sale. Extra discounts sometimes on family-size (large) packages. Get a free VIC card to maximize your savings, especially if you aren't brand loyal and are willing to buy whichever brand is on sale. read more

The customer service is usually good, but since I frequent here often, I don't really need help at this store. I can just go in, grab what I want, and then go through self-check out. Finally, this place is now open!! The HT stores are really great to shop at. They have all the brands that you are familiar with in a very clean, upscale shopping experience. The checkout people are so incredibly nice, too. Harris Teeters fits in between Wholefoods/Wegmans at the top end and Giant/Safeway at the middle end. Glad The Teet has finally arrived. I've gone twice so far and am liking it. Pros: - nice and clean - good selection of items without the crowds of Wegmans - very fresh produce - nice cheese section - awesome price on bulk chicken breasts - good wine/beer selection - friendly staff - good deals with the VIC card. you can request one online at their web site before going to the store, and they'll mail you three cards (one wallet-sized, two keychain-sized) Cons: - bakery/bread section is a tad small - layout is weird in some areas. eg, the potato chips and such are in an aisle facing the frozen dinners - checking out is weird. instead of unloading your cart, you give your cart to the cashier, who unloads it for you. some people might prefer this, but i found it a bit awkward. - none of the cashiers seem to know the produce codes, but this may just be because they're new - some things are unpredictably more abundant than others. for instance, the italian pasta selection was a bit sparse, but they have the widest variety of Yakisoba I've ever seen. they didn't have Goya chickpeas, but they have all sorts of jellies and jams (guava, jalapeno, etc) When I don't want to deal with Wegmans but need a bit more selection than Giant, this is where I'll go. read more

I've been to HT one time before the most recent experience that has now turned me away from this particular HT. For the VIC deals, you need to sign up for a card. Most supermarkets I've been to normally swipe a card for you if you don't have a card yet. This is exactly what happened the first time I was at HT. The man at the register was completely helpful and understood that I was trying to rush home to make dinner. The second time around though, I was told by the woman at the register, Neelufar, that I needed to sign up for a card because swiping a card for me would get her into a lot of trouble. I agreed to sign up for a card for the savings. The form asked for my drivers license information which I thought was unusual but it stated that they needed that information for inside use only. Thank god I memorized my license number because I did not have my drivers license with me. After filling it out, I paid for my groceries and proceeded to leave the supermarket. Just as I was exiting, Neelufar shouted for me from her register saying she needed to see my drivers license. Everyone in the check out lanes are now staring at me as if I've done something wrong. I return to the register and explain that I don't have my drivers license on me and that I know the number off the top of my head. She begins to make a big deal out of showing her my license! If I had known before hand that I needed to show her my drivers license, I wouldn't have wasted my time filing out the form amd would've told her I'll just pay without signing for a card because I didn't have my drivers license on me! Instead, she tried to shift the blame on the customer when she should've been more clear on what she needed! I have no intention of returning to this HT. There are plenty of other supermarkets in the area that, unlike Harris Teeter, have always provided excellent customer service. read more

Harris Teeter is a decent grocery store. My favorite time to shop is during "super doubles." That is when your coupons (up to $2.00) will double. There is a weekly "meal deal" that will save you money if you buy the entire meal. If you shop in the morning, you will still have the opportunity to try the fruit and bakery samples. Otherwise they are gone. If you need a pick me up, Harris Teeter always has free cookies by the front door. There is plenty of parking. Weekends are more crowded. read more

I prefer the Harris Teeters out in Aldie and South Riding. They are larger stores which offer a slightly better selection of items. I like the fact the other stores have Starbucks at the entrance. Let's face it - sometimes you need a little pick me up to get the grocery shopping out of the way and a bit of java fits the bill. However, I do shop at this location when I happen to be in the area. As with the other Harris Teeters, the produce is usually fresh, there is a butcher/seafood counter, a nice wine selection and a great selection of normal grocery items. Yes, prices are a bit higher here than Giant or Wegmans. However, it is never crowded. I never wait in line too long and the people that work there are extremely friendly and helpful. Definitely get the VIC card and sign up for eVic. They have some really great deals at times. Also, if you are buying a gift card, do not go through the self checkout lines. read more

I exclusively go to Harris teeter for two reasons: 1) their sandwhich meat from the deli 2) DAILY DOUBLE COUPONS (up to .99) and TRIPLE COUPON days! They also price match which is awesome. Although Harris Teeter does not have the best prices BY FAR, their customer service is always great, their aisles are always neat and orderly, and I love the general ambience. It doesn't feel as commercial as a Safeway, but it does look like a traditional neighborhood store - neat and orderly. Not to mention, when you do catch harris teeter during their triple coupon days, you can really take couponing to the extreme and catch some great deals. read more

This is a the way a grocery store should be, in our opinion. They have a wide selection of brands, from high-end to budget store brands. We even picked up quite a few items that we normally get at Whole Foods and saved quite a bit by doing so. The frozen food section is "off the chain"! They have it all!!!! We bought 2 Gino's East pizzas and some Skyline chili, neither of which have we seen at another store. Excited!! The only complaint would be that there wasn't enough produce and it looked a bit picked over. We did go on a Sunday afternoon, however, and it could be that they were running low by that time. (?) Also, we live in West Springfield, so this is a bit of a haul, but all in all, worth the trip! read more

This is a nice Harris Teeter, but is not near home so I would not find myself here regularly. My mom and I were in the area for a hair/makeup appointment and wanted to make chili for dinner later that night. She didn't want to walk across the street to HT when we got back to my place so I looked for the closest one to where we were at the time. This location is larger than my local HT but more or less, everything is the same stock-wise. It did have a strong fishy smell when we entered that was off putting, but otherwise things were A-ok. There is free parking which I appreciate too. I probably won't be back since it's not near me, but it seems like a good option if you are in the area and need groceries. read more
