Food Lion has some good deals on shelf stable or what I often call pantry items. My sister always notes how good their baking aisle is. The produce section is awful and I am still haunted by their unsanitary and unsafe meat practices from the early 1990s so I still skip meat and poultry at Food Lion. The store is dated but they did recently start a renovation to make the spacing within aisles wider. It doesn't seem to be a very busy store which makes it easy to get in and get out of. The employees are generally friendly.

The Amazon shoppers are such an unpleasant negative presence in the store. They don't actually work…read morethere, as in they aren't customer facing employees and have no customer service demeanor or training. And they aren't customers either. They're a weird 3rd space presence of rude unpleasant bulky obstacles with excessively large carts that linger and block the aisles making it challenging and frustrating to access groceries and move about store. And they act like you are in THEIR way. If modern life wasn't already impersonal enough, they make the grocery shopping experience even more impersonal. They are rude, always have a mean unhappy RBF expression. They have a rushed urgency about them that makes the store feel hectic. It's obvious they don't want to be there. They don't want to talk to you. They're not technically employees that you can ask questions. They park their cart blocking groceries and its not obvious who's huge cart that is to ask them to move. They just bring a negative funk to the whole place. And to top it off most of them are likely not people who would regularly shop at Whole Foods. Amazon has introduced a whole other socioeconomic demographic of non-customers/non-employees present in the store changing the atmosphere overnight. I'd wager there are as many Amazon shoppers as regular customers they are the majority in the store. Its a take over! the store is unwelcoming to regular customers. And then she started to hold it against us, even though she would always say, "get whatever you want." So when Costco came out proclaiming that they were going to keep their DEI practices in place, Jeremy and I got our own membership. DEI represents groups that are historically underrepresented or marginalized, including those based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, national origin, and veteran status. So, to me, any corporation who wants to be against looking out for any of those people can suck it. We usually shop at the Costco on Pulaski Highway in Baltimore County, but we were trying to fill some time before an appointment and decided to tuck in here to get a super cool Lego Japanese maple tree set for a friend for xmas. I like that if I find a product at one Costco it's probably going to be available at all Costcos. And while we weren't there for groceries, I also like buying my meats at Costco. We can make those big packages stretch for months sometimes and there's something comforting about knowing you have something for dinner for a while and don't have to give a lot of thought to it. I do recommend breaking down your meat into appropriate serving sizes before you freeze them. You can get one of those vacuum sealers to keep things from getting freezer burn, but a plastic zip bag will do in a pinch. One of the bad things about Costco is that they don't accept all forms of payment. They'll accept food stamps (they sell milk) but some credit cards won't be accepted. Also, because there's a membership fee (I think its like $50-60), Costco isn't an option for everybody, and I don't really like that kind of elitist nonsense. I feel like the people who can't afford the membership would be the type of people who would benefit the most from buying in bulk to save money. I like Costco.
