I went to Starbucks today at this Safeway, and the employee was extremely rude. A short light-skinned woman with curls and a septum piercing. Like, beyond rude. Firstly, I am waiting in line; she is the only employee working at the time. I cut her some slack as it is around 7:15 in the morning, and this position can be overwhelming; however, she is insane. I have been in line about 15 minutes, and me the customers in front of us are being ignoring. She finally stops cleaning her supplies, and takes the customers order in front of me, she walks away before she can ring him up to pay, another 5 minutes of her cleaning, then she checks him out. She then proceeds to halfway make his drink, and comes back to take my order. I order, and I have to re-order 3 times due to her refusing to listen. I finally ordered a sugar cookie latte with a pump of vanilla. While I am speaking, she interrupts me to ask if that's it, and I say no, and she rolls her eyes. When it is finally time to pay, she walks to the other side and continues making the customer in front of me their drink. She then proceeds to leave it about 75% done in the blender. She walks back over and rings me up. She is being rude to the people ahead of me, and even a sweet older woman who asked her if this was her order, as she was having trouble remembering because she also failed to create a label. The older woman asks her, "Is this mine, dear?", and the employee says, "Does it look like yours?" with an attitude. The older woman proceeds to say I am unsure, and the employee ignores her and walks back up to the register. I am in the waiting area for 18 minutes at this point, and the barista has made the customers behind me their drinks and forgotten to make mine. When she has made I ask her simply, "do you have a time estimate as to when the sugar cookie latte will be finished?". She replies with "does it look like I'm done, okay then?". I simply ignore her, and then she starts making the drink, she had not even gotten the syrup for the latte out, and she literally tells me 2 minutes later, she does not have the ingredients to make it, and what other flavoring she can use. She forgot to make my drink, did not apologize, and when I gave a friendly reminder, she gave me an attitude. She then proceeds to make my drink and hands it to me, dripping, and also forgets my cold foam, which she then just uses whipped cream to replicate. I did not even have the chance to ask her to fix my drink, as I paid for the extra cold foam and flavoring which I did not receive. I say "excuse me," and the barista simply walks to the register again and proceeds to ignore me. At this point, I leave because it's been about 34 minutes in total of waiting for my beverage, which I did not even receive. read more

Pharmacy is a disaster. I was denied service and asked to not return for having my Maryland Concealed Carry Permit as my only form of ID. I have followed up with local 2A groups to expose this safesways likely unlawful bias and discrimination of people they don't want doing business in their community. I hope they're ashamed and publicly ostracized for their behavior as they should be. This issue was reviewed by store manager Matt Kocky who failed to speak with me for at least a month after the incident. read more

Meat department should be reported to local health authorities. They were trying to push meats that were nearing expiration with a "buy 4 packages mix & match for $19.99." Decided to give it a try with some hamburger, chicken drumsticks, pork tenderloin and steak. all had sell by dates that were coming up in 2-3 days. while the burger and chicken were okay, the pork came out of the package smelly & slimy. had to throw it out & air out the smell from my kitchen! the steak I frozen immediately but will probably have to throw that out too. I should have know. I saw other packages of meat on the store shelf with sell by dates that had expired 10 days ago! read more

Worst darn Safeway I have ever seen! Fish is always a dangerous chance as I have has three bag experiences out of three. First the haddock made my fridge smell like a rotten rear end, then I bought shrimp a few times once after I was informed it was under new management. Still rotten. Smelled like cat piss. I cringe at the liability in this situation. What if it killed someone. The excuse was Brian the manager took over but still the food is crap. Only buy pre packaged foods that are canned or from a reputable company. Anything else is absolute garbage and it seems like it is from a mob distributor. Silly me, I bought chestnuts from Giant one Gov. Ritichie and trout all nuts were created equal. Roasted them and they were great. Wanted more and bought them from this Safeway. Just got done roasting the chestnuts with the kids to find out again this store sells rotten food in other departments. See the photos of the mold. read more

Terrible bakery. Terrible!! My kids and I discussed and had an order placed, in writing, with the bakery manager several weeks before my daughters birthday. We went over every detail. Including the time and date for pickup, ALL in writing. My daughter was so excited to see her special personalized cake on her big day. I showed up at the scheduled time and was told they didn't have a cake. Never made it. Why? No idea. Can we make it for you tomorrow? No! Her party with all our family and friends is TODAY! Her birthday is TODAY! I could not believe it. No reason. No explanation. I'd like to say this has only happened once but several years ago I remember asking my mom to pick up a personalized birthday cake from there and they didn't have it then either. It's just crazy to me. CRAZY! Please. If you are reading this. DO NOT order a personalized cake for any special events from this Safeway bakery. This place is A JOKE! This place has some of the worst customer service I've ever encountered. I'd picked up some cards and was in self checkout. For whatever reason, the self checkout machine started bugging out, beeping and notifying me a rep would come help me. There was even a tall light blinking! And guess what? Not one Safeway employee showed up to help me. I thought one was coming, there was a young woman in a Safeway polo shirt approaching me, so I asked her if she could help me with my issue. She looked super confused and told me someone would be around to help soon. Well, that didn't happen. I abandoned the self checkout and tried a regular checkout lane, but there was a woman in front of me with a packed cart and I wasn't waiting that long to buy 2 cards. I returned to the self checkout area and noticed that the register I'd been at before was still beeping and the light was still blinking, no one had come to help. I went to another register and was able to check out successfully, but dang, the entire time I was there, no one even glanced in my direction! I have mixed feelings about Safeway.com. I decided to try the service in the middle of a move to Capitol Hill to put off having to figure out the closest grocery store because I figured I had nothing to lose with free shipping off the first order. Pros: It was incredibly convenient, I'll tell you that. I ordered everything online, which was great for comparing price-per-ounce, and set up a delivery window the next day. The driver actually showed up 10 minutes before my hour long window, and brought the bags inside my house. Unlike Peapod, Safeway doesn't allow you to tip their drivers, which saved some awkwardness for me. With minimal effort on my part, I had a kitchen full of groceries. Cons: I haven't checked to make sure nothing was left out of my order, but I did receive a can of soup of a flavor I hate, but I was too lazy to see if that was my error or theirs. They also used a lot of plastic bags, which I normally avoid. The biggest downside though was the expense. Even with free delivery, I felt like the estimated bill was a little more than I usually spend at the store (it's an estimate if you get anything that varies in price by weight, like meat). The Web site said that usually the actual cost is a little less than the estimate, so I was surprised when the actual price was about $10 more expensive. Take away: For whatever reason, it cost more than I usually spend at the store, but it was incredibly convenient. I will probably get myself to the store next time and reserve Safeway Delivery for big and heavy things every once in a while. read more

The Deli department is very unsanitary, there is a mop bucket filled with moldy water right by the food. I worked there for around 3 weeks and it was still there on my first day. Most atrocious thing I've ever seen, obviously hasn't been changed in many MONTHS, even though I frequently mentioned it, its still there to this day. The food conditions are bad. I would not eat anything from there, the health inspectors would have a field day with this place. Bad/dangerous working conditions. They also treat their employees like garbage. Ive called out 3 times, twice because my coworkers got me sick and I needed to know that I didnt have covid because at the time3 out of 4 were sick and 2 tested positive for Covid. Not my fault whatsoever, once I switched from am shift to pm shift because i had an AM appointmen, I did not call out, I switched shifts. And last but not least, I started profusely vomitin, called out the next day, made sure it wasnt contagious, then came back the day after (today) with a mask on just to be extra safe and then the manager claimed that I called out 5 times but it was definitely 3 maximum. I was a very hard worker and always polite to the customers but I still got fired anyways. Especially when it was safeways employees that got me sick 2 out of the 3 times, so i called out just to check for Covid, just like any good employee would do. I did the same thing yesterday, called out to make sure I would cause a major health hazard, then went back the next day with a covid mask on, still not feeling great but still gave the job my all, until they fired me for allegedly missing 5 days even though it was 3 maximum. The stupidest part is 2 of my other coworkers had taken at least 5 days off in the past week and a half. If I were you, I would shop at a different store. No idea why they would treat me like this. Ive worked my ass off at this job. Then my coworkers got me sick. Then I got nauseated, took a day off to make sure I was fine, came back the next day and got immediately fired. I tried to clear it up by telling him it was 3 days max and that this is the only job I can get to as I dont have a car and now I will be homeless is 2 weeks. All the nuking of the Safeway on Benfield seems silly - most of it is really about safeway.com and not this store. Store is fine; their loss leaders are usually a great buy. Staff is helpful when you need it. The drugstore is especially good; they have been of great assistance on numerous occasions and we've never had an issue getting things filled in a timely manner even when dropping off and waiting maybe 15-20 min for a fill. The SunTrust up front is helpful too for the times you want a brick and mortar bank; we have those times and they are a great asset. I'm a fan, as the caption up top says. read more

But on the other hand they had my cel number for over 2 weeks and could have called me to say the cake was not 12.99 but 30.00... and of course I was not going to say anything sense it was my daughters birthday cake. Because it is close to where I live, I use this grocery store. The staff are used to being asked where items are stacked because only they can figure it out! For instance cans of beans are on one shelf, but ethnic cans of beans are way down the aisle! Maddening! The produce is good, and organic and ethnic snacks are available. This is NOT a review about the service Safeway.com. Instead,it's about the grocery store itself. That disclaimer out of the way... Do yourself a huge favor and DON'T SHOP HERE! Everything is over priced by atleast 15 to 25€ . This in and of itself won't break you If you need only a few things when in a hurry. However if you do your weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly shopping at Safeway this will cost you deeply in your wallet. This isn't just an opinion. It's fact! I decided to do some price comparison from other grocery chains to see how Safeway would measure up. I shopped first at Giant food and made a list of only the basics one would be inclined to buy. Milk,bread, hamburger,chicken breasts,toilet paper and coffee. I know it's not a huge list,but again,these few staples of necessity would be a true litmus test to compare. Giant was middle of the road in price, about $30. Shoppers came in the cheapest with a total of $24. Food Lion was about the same. Literally pennies apart on the plus side. Wal Mart came in at $ 25. And Safeway? $39 dollars! 39!! Anyway, they do offer a rewards program like most others do. But the so called"savings"are minimal and often are applied to products you don't use much. The employees for the most part are helpful,but management seems like they don't want to be bothered. I needed to use the restroom while doing my shopping and was disgusted by the condition of the facilities . it looked as though it hadn't been cleaned for weeks. There was excrement on the floor. Honestly! So when i told" Elise" the manager about it, I was asked very rudely, "did I do it"?. Needless to say, I left and have no plans on a return. read more

Been going here since I was small...it's a nice store and they recently renovated the building and added a larger seating area for the Starbucks. I only took off a star because the prices are on the higher side since it's a Safeway. They used to have free cookies sometimes in the baking section but not anymore it seems like. They usually have what I need to make dinner. I don't know why the reviews are low. I would recommend this Safeway. read more

terrible!!! this is the second time i have tried them, thinking the first time was a fluke. First time they were 2 hours late and my cupcake icing was melted and all my frozen food was defrosted and cold food was warm- i sent that stuff packing with them. This time i ordered again and they cant find my house- ever heard of navigation or even freaking mapquest??? again they are late and i want to cancel and they wont let me- going to refuse order and put in a dispute with my credit card company and use giant delivery forever!! safeway sucks read more

Overpriced unless you do coupons, Just For U or $5 Fridays. Always a line since they understaff their cashiers. Self checkout can be closed with one cashier on duty. They tend sell out of some of the things I get on a regular basis (caffeine free diet soda for example) and they make you buy multiple items to get things priced fairly. I go to Aldi in Pasadena for most of my items these days. Wish we had a better Safeway. Can remember how elated everyone was when it got remodeled. Too bad it just looks pretty now... read more

I decided to try the safeway.com delivery feature out which started out pretty good, and then ended in disaster. The delivery driver showed up at my house about 5 minutes earlier than I was expecting, delivered my things and signed for the groceries and took them inside. When I get to the fridge to start putting my groceries away I noticed that there was this funny smell that I couldn't put my finger on and I first noticed it when the delivery driver first handed over the bags to me but thought I was just imagining something. Anyway, when I get to the bag that had my "fresh" organic boneless chicken thighs they were obviously rotten as they had a very distinct odor that just permeated my kitchen. Anyway, I wrapped them up in 4 more plastic bags and took it to this store where I went to their customer service station where no one was even manning it at that point and had to wait about 5-8 minutes for someone to show up and ask me what I needed. Then when I was asked and explained to the customer service lady my issue and that I wished to receive a refund for the rotten chicken that had been delivered to my house less than an hour before she rudely asked me where I bought the items and when I told her that I had ordered them online for delivery she told me that their store didn't support the safeway.com delivery service and if I wanted to still be able to receive my refund I would have to take my rotten chicken and put it back in my car and drive it to the Safeway in Crofton at the Waugh Chapel store. So, in other words I ordered "fresh" chicken and it was my fault that it was rotten when it was delivered. Never going to use the delivery option again, for something that was supposed to make my life easier sure made it a lot more difficult than me just going to the store and buying it myself. Beware this store if you ever order something online and want to try and take it back to get a refund, because they'll just tell you that they don't support their online ordering delivery system and send you packing to the Waugh Chapel store. I've lived in Severna Park for almost 20 yrs and the Safeway on Benfield is down the street from me. This store is the absolutely worst run store with regard to customer service. They are rude and say nothing to you at the register. They say "thank you" after you pay like it's painful for them. They are unfriendly at the deli area that makes the sandwiches, the lunchmeat counter employees will show obvious irritation if you ask for lunch to be cut if it's already on the shaved platters. The store is clean, the prices on the sale items are fine but they depend on being a convenient location vs any kind of customer service. My spouse, my mother and I make a point of shopping anywhere, every where else but Safeway. read more

I order groceries to be delivered from the national website, Safeway.com. The groceries are pulled from the shelves of a local Safeway in Severna Park (not all stores fill online orders, apparently.) So I am including the street address of the store that fills these orders, but the review is really about the national chain, Safeway.com, which does internet orders. I would have given them an enthusiastic four or five stars as recently as this week, because the ordering process is easy, delivery times are convenient, the delivery charges are reasonable, and the delivery folks are polite and pleasant. Yes, sometimes I ended being charged for an item I didn't get. Rarely, I'd get a product I didn't order. Sometimes the people who fill the orders seem careless or clueless. I would call Safeway's customer care center and they would issue a credit or a refund. They customer care reps were always polite and usually offered to compensate me $10 for my trouble. (I would always demur, because I was calling them after every order to get a credit for something that wasn't included in my order but for which I had been charged. I finally said, "I don't need you to compensate me for my trouble. Just issue me a credit for the item, okay? I'm not looking for a freebie.") I was happy with the service. I've noticed they've made changes which have improved their website. It's become easier to place orders and schedule deliveries. Overall, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Or so I thought until today. Something happened this week that really angered me and completely changed my opinion of Safeway.com. I placed an order Monday night with a scheduled delivery date of Tuesday. On Tuesday, I was called by the local store which fulfills the orders to reschedule a delivery due to inclement weather. Okay, fine. I had no problem with that. We were having an ice storm. But inexplicably, the day the groceries were supposed to be delivered, the delivery person never showed. Never called. I sat around waiting and finally called their centralized "customer care center" located in Arizona, only to be told then my order had been cancelled earlier that day. Say what? Why no email? Why no phone call? I had been home all day, had waited from 4 to 7 p.m. for the doorbell to ring. The attitude of the "customer care specialists" was a total turnaround from what I had encountered in the past. No apologies. No "how can we make it up to you?" The decision to cancel my order was made by some mythical managers, with whom I was not permitted to speak. Someone should have called me, but didn't. No biggie. The person to whom I spoke told me I should place another order on their website and schedule another delivery time. Or not. She clearly didn't care. She was busy taking calls from a lot of other irate customers whose grocery orders had been cancelled without notice, too. Her voice had a shrug in it. I wrote a long-winded email to Safeway and will follow up with a letter about this, but I'm not optimistic about receiving a reply, much less an apology or compensation for being inconvenienced. They pay lip service to "corporate values" of being loyal to their customers and giving them good/excellent/outstanding service. Blah, blah, blah. But really, they don't care. I get weekly emails about their sales and incentives to shop online but they really don't want to hear anything but praise. The relationship between them and the customer is entirely on Safeway's terms: we'll serve the customer as long as it benefits us and we can make a buck doing it, but if we drop the ball or fail to meet expectations, hey, don't complain. Plenty o'customers out there to sell groceries to. We don't need your business. read more

At Safeway, on Benfield Road in Severna Park, after Starbucks refused to honor their free small coffee offer printed on virtually every bag of their coffee, I picked up two donuts and, while checking out, I complained mildly that I had often bought these same donuts at Safeway at much lower price. The check-out person then loudly invited me to go to Doncan donuts if I didn't like the safeway price. I did. The donuts were a little more but the coffee was much less. In the ensuring taste teat, my panel of grandchildren preferred the duncan donuts to safeway's. I thank the check-out clerk for setting me straight and the Starbucks barrista for opening my eyes to the myrid of opportunities competing for my dollar. As Wegman's is opening right down the street, I intend to give them every opportunity to win my business! read more
