The steaks were perfectly cooked and our waitress brought out not only the requested steak sauce, but also the restaurant's own variation which is served warm and is absolutely delicious! This is my second trip and each time I arrive I am taken aback by how the atmosphere instantly puts you at ease the music in the foray the low hum of conversation not to mention the beautiful decor! I am Vegan so the menu can be a bit if a challenge but the staff is knowledgeable and courteous when you make special requests. The pizza sans cheese is fantastic and the salads are fresh. I came to Harry & Izzy's to try the famous St. Elmo's Shrimp Cocktail, and to have a nice dinner in a fancy atmosphere. I had a very nice experience. I had a nice glass of Chandon sparkling wine with the shrimp cocktail, the sauce for which was (as warned/promised by other fans and the bartender) chock full of horseradish). It was great and the shrimp was premium for sure. I had the ribeye, which was very tasty and tender, and the fried green tomatoes which were soooo good. I highly recommend them as your side dish. I hadn't had them before and they were made with fresh, flavorful green tomatoes, perfectly crispy fried, and served with a divine sauce. The atmosphere was very nice, and the two bartenders who served me were friendly and chatty when they had the time. I'll come back. read more

My wife and I just got married on Sunday 9/18 and decided to have a small reception dinner at Harry and Izzy's. We were overwhelmed with the level of service that we received. A handwritten note of congratulations was waiting for us at our table. Great personal touch! Meg was our waitress and she did an amazing job. She made a few recommendations and has an awesome personality. We both had the New York Strip and the horseradish gorgonzola butter that Meg recommended was phenomenal. Just had some of the best crab cakes I've had in Indy. Funny how folks think they always need bread crumbs! Hint: they don't. Exceptional service and friendly, retro atmosphere. Harry and Izzy's is classy and delightful. I am really taken by the Art Deco/1920s style. If you are in the mood for a stellar cocktail with a sophisticated atmosphere this is your best bet. The bar has an awesome view of Georgia which makes for great people watching. The outdoor seating is also a major plus. And talk about good food. You get what you pay for. Very high quality service combined with perfectly prepared gourmet food. I have never had a bad experience, I just wish I could afford to eat here more often. read more

The food was decadent! We started with appetizers, calamari, ravioli, and the shrimp cocktail. Now the shrimp cocktail is very spicy with a whole bunch of kick! It definitely cleaned out any sinuses for me. I then ordered the scallops on top of a bed of couscous with a red skin mashed potatoes. The potatoes were the best! And my scallops were delicious! i love this place for the excellent quality of service and fine steaks. we came here with about 20 people, which would normally pose a significant challenge for most servers. but here it was orchestrated to perfection. attentive, yet not overly demanding. and the steaks were fantastic. loved the shrimp cocktail. the cocktail sauce is made with fresh horseradish, and is very very spicy -- hotter than wasabi. some of us thought it would be a good idea to do shots of cocktail sauce + vodka... my tongue was still numb 3 days later. read more

Great atmosphere, great service, great location. We had appetizers of amazing ravioli and very spicy shrimp cocktail. The presentation of the shrimp consisted of 5 shrimp smothered in spicy cocktail sauce. Since the steaks were quite pricey, my friend and I split the rib-ey e and a few sides which was more than enough. We had the rib-eye steak Izzy style which is peppercorn encrusted. My boyfriend and I went to Harry & Izzy's on a Saturday night to celebrate Valentine's Day and our 1 year anniversary a few weeks ago. He had never been so naturally we had to start with the shrimp cocktail which we both enjoyed. For dinner he ordered the chopped steak with fries and I ordered a filet with the fried green tomatoes. While my filet was had a great flavor, I enjoyed his chopped steak so much more! I naturally had to steal a few bites from his plate. My tomatoes were really great and a nice treat because you don't see many people offer them. We both opted to skip dessert because of the meat coma we were in. This place is awesome! Exceptional service and the best filet and lobster I have ever had. The waiter was very attentive and suggested items based on our interests. The shrimp cocktail was very good and very spicy. Just how I liked it. The horseradish definetly cleared my nostrils. Great ambiance and exceptional food. I will definetly be going back here. I usually love Harry and Izzy's. I've been going there for years. Unfortunately, the last few visits really put me off. I hope things turn around soon. My favorites are usually the shrimp cocktail and the filet sliders. The shrimp were definitely not fresh and had a bad taste. I've sent them back twice now. I asked for medium filets and received them very well done on 3 separate occasions. I had to also send back the gritty asparagus. It was filled with sand. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the food gets back to where it was. It won't be my last time dinning at Harry and Izzys, but I will ask about the freshness of the food before ordering in the future. Wine selection is always great. read more

Another steak house with quality meats along the steak house format. Add in the shrimp cocktail, imported from next door at St. Elmo's, and life spices up a bit. I've lived in Indy for nine years and this was only my second time eating at the downtown venue, although I often hit up the airport location. The food, the service, the atmosphere, the hospitality...they were all on point! I had the NY strip which was cooked perfectly. It rivaled cuts of beef I've had in Argentina as the tastiest steak I've eaten. The redskin mashed potatoes were creamy and well seasoned. I will definitely be back, often. read more

This was a great fund in downtown Indy. My wife started with a glass from the their ample wine list and I explored their really cool bourbon selections. Now onto the rib eyes that had plenty of flavor and nice color. If dining together, I suggest each person getting a different side as they don't do family style. I asked for a wine recommendation to pair with the rib eye, expecting it would be the most expensive selection.. haha, the server suggested the zin. It was fabulous. We are generally 50/50 on having desert but based on the recommendation of the bread pudding we indulged. Well worth the extra calories! The service was excellent and friendly. read more

A cheaper alternative to St Elmos, Harry and Izzy's has a more casual, but classy vibe, with an esthetically pleasing dining room with a menu that suits a variety of tastes. I felt the service was less formal, but more genuine, and of course the prices more reasonable, and the menu more varied. read more

Very nice place to eat. I had the blackened catfish which was the best I've had. Service was excellent although our waitress had a bit of attitude. I figured out why when we received our bill and her 20% gratuity was already included so her attitude didn't effect her tip. I definately would eat there again however. I find this to be a great place for tasty food and well above average service. The filet sliders are excellent. Of course the shrimp cocktail with extreme horseradish cocktail sauce is what is well known. I suggest asking for the shrimp with the sauce on the side. Arrived to a full house, but our party of 2 managed to get a table by the bar right away. Our waiter was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable of the menu. Great steakhouse with a modern (but noisey) decor by the same owners as St. Elmos. They even serve the St. Elmos signature shrimp cocktail appetizer. Have a great midweek deal called the "Devour Downtown" - with appetizer, entree w/side, and dessert ($40 for steak, $30 for chicken/salmon). I paid the $8 upcharge and got a 14oz Strip Steak. The house wine (Rodney Strong Cabernet) was great. Overall a fine upscale steakhouse experience for less than Ruths Chris, Mortons, or St. Elmos. read more
