I was invited to an early dinner here this week, they are the sister restaurant to St. Elmo's with much of the same fare. We arrived and were seated quickly, the ambiance here is excellent with high ceilings, dark wood and plenty of room between booths/tables. We started with the house salad which was fantastic, marrying iceberg, apples, walnuts, blue cheese and an excellent dressing. The shrimp cocktail came next, and it was kind of shrimpy for $15, but boy oh boy that cocktail dressing packs a punch being mostly horseradish. We all had the filet, and everyone agreed it was absolutly amazing. The help was great as well, we had a friendly server that was attentive and let us take our time. This is the sister restaurant to St. Elmo's, one of Indianapolis' finer steak restaurants. The decor is from the gangster era and comfortable. I have enjoyed lunch here several times, but have yet to stay for dinner. The lunch menu is relatively diverse, but not extensive. A spicy rock shrimp appetizer was a great way to begin lunch, followed by a very tasty and tradition chicken club sandwich. Everything was cooked exactly right. I did not get the shrimp appetizer, which is the same as served at St. Elmo's, but suggest that it be tried if for no other reaon than its notariety. read more

Great ambiance, cool decor, food was very good. I got the filet, and my husband got the ribeye, and it was well done. Not the best steak I've ever had, but definitely up there. The best of all really was the shrimp cocktail appetizer and the creamed spinach. We were visiting from Cincinnati, and it was definitely a great choice for a nice romantic night out. For those that are mesmerized by St. Elmo's I highly suggest trying this place for a different vibe and larger menu. St. Elmo's is old school steak house with limited choices. Harry and Izzy's has softer edges with great food. Of course, they have the famous shrimp cocktail but also things like calamari with a chili sauce condiment as a starter. Steak is on the menu, but not king. Delicious wood fired pizzas, fresh beet salad, half a roast chicken are just a few gorgeous items that I've tried which have been wonderful. I much prefer Harry and Izzy's to St. Elmo's, though, if you have never tried St. Elmo's it is important to go at least once for the history and respect of a tried and true steak house. Almost forgot to add that their creme brûlée just can't be beat...nothing crazy, just straight up eggs, cream, sugar, vanilla turned into heaven. read more

Last year we ate at here for the NCAA Regional, yesterday the Final Four. It was amazing to see the efficiency and friendliness of the staff in the midst of total chaos (not to mention customers acting like douchebags and making things hard on the employees - that means you bicycle guy). We ate here on 9/6 and the food was amazing! Two of us enjoyed the filet on the Devour Downtown menu, and two of us enjoyed the chicken on Devour menu. Both were perfectly prepared. Yummmmm! I had the bone-in filet chops and they were delicious. We also tried toasted raviolis and an Asian shrimp appetizer that were fantastic. For all the hype about this place it certainly didn't live up to my expectations. While the filet slider would give me reason to return, that's about the only thing. The spicy Asian shrimp was far too saucy and not in a good way (holy mayo overload). "Toasted" ravioli tasted like heavily breaded, frozen them fried ravioli. And stay far far away from the pizza. Thin, flavorless crust topped with rubbery cheese and tasteless sauce. Given my review 3 stars might seem generous but the service was spot on and the slider may revisit me in my dreams. read more

I was traveling on business and was told by my hotel concierge to try Harry & Izzy's for dinner which was a restaurant across the street. I sat at the bar and was greeted by a friendly bartender. I tried one of the craft beers on tap while looking over the menu. I decided on the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and the 8oz filet with mashed potatoes as my main course. The steak was cooked perfect and very flavorful. The shrimp cocktail packed a spicy punch that could be too much spice for some. read more

Really great steak. Not a real fan of steakhouses. Think it's something I can cook just as well myself at home. Don't really think the supposed difference between our local butcher's best cut (not grocery store) and a steakhouse's 'prime' is really that big. BUT, I got their NY Strip and is was the best steak I ever had. Mash potatoes excellent. Brussels Sprouts great. Service top notch. Only thing, skip the 'world famous' shrimp cocktail. I like spicy, but their famous cocktail sauce is just alll heat and no flavor. read more

This is the best restaurant experience I've had in my entire lift. I recently discovered I have Celiac and the manager hand made my meal to make sure there was zero gluten in the meal. I went to dinner here with a large group of people. I understand that it takes awhile longer with a large group, but it took more than an hour to get our orders and another hour to get our food. I didn't order dessert, thinking that would take another hour, but no, it came out in 10-15 minutes. Our total time there was 3 hours and 15 minutes. The food was good though a bit on the pricey side. 36 dollars for a NY strip steak which was good but not spectacularly better than what I could have made a home on the Weber. We didn't have any appetizers but did get desserts. The brownie was good and should be shared, though the brownie itself could have been chewier/moister. The apple/cherry cobbler was okay ($2.50 for a scoop of ice cream?!). With so many choices in downtown Indy, especially for steak, this place is good but not spectacular. read more

This place is okay. The ambience is cool, large center bar, separate rooms with tables and booths, wooden finishes. It is slightly expensive. I absolutely loved the st. Elmo's famous shrimp cocktail (fresh and lots of horseradish) but the other food was ehh. My friend got the frech onion soup and raved about it. I didn't have any of their steaks so can't comment. Place is definitely busy if any convention is in town so make a reservation early. Staff was nice and friendly. Worth going to try the classics if you can afford it. :) read more

Been here twice before. First visit had the French onion soup and husband had steak and potatoes from Devour Downtown. All good!!! Most recent visit with my daughter and husband. I had filet with bernais sauce, mashed potatoes, rolls. Was disappointed with this visit: a. Why is there no ice in the water glasses? Had to request ice. b. The rolls were on the soggy side and just not up to par. Can we have another option, like simple loaf of garlic bread instead of the soggy rolls? c. Meat was good. Not fantastic. Good. Not worth the exorbitant price, however. Not sure why such a meal costs so much? I've had filet that was much more favorable and tender at other local restaurants. Potatoes were fine. d. I'd sure like to see more restaurants around town offer a reduced portion size for diabetics. I split my food with my husband. No way could I have have eaten an entire meal at this restaurant. Way too much food. Can we PLEASE get more options for diabetics?????? read more

We walked in without a reservation and sat at the bar. The bartender, Tyler, was super friendly and helpful. He offered to get us over to a table in the bar area fairly quickly - and he delivered! The place was packed so this was no easy feat. Apps were quick and delicious - slab of bacon, shrimp cocktail and spicy meatballs - YUM! Our server, Jackie, gave us the BEST service! Customer service is the name of the game here at Harry and Izzy's. I've gone multiple times and the last time the salad was lacking enough dressing and my wife mentioned it and before we knew it there was a side of dressing and no charge on the bill for the salad. Went here for lunch to get the prime rib sandwich that my fiancee has been talking about since she had it at a company party awhile back. I also ordered the tomato and mozzarella (caprese) salad. The sandwich was phenomenal. Obviously a bit expensive being that this is a very upscale place, but honestly worth the money. Au jus was fantastic, the horseradish sauce wasn't overpowering but provided a good kick. Fries were perfect mix of crunch and starch. The salad left something to be desired. It was DROWNING in balsamic vinegar. Don't get me wrong, I like balsamic and this was good balsamic, but there was no tasting the tomato, basil, olive oil or fresh mozzarella. If you're serving something as fresh and delicate as a caprese salad, maybe leave the amount of balsamic to the diner, or maybe just let the tomato and mozzarella shine. I LOVE caprese salad, but was really disappointed in this iteration. Service was solid and the atmosphere is great - crooner music, dark wood, bronze finishes everywhere. 3/5 because that salad literally left a bad taste in my mouth and while everything else was great, you'd expect that for $30/head for lunch. read more

My husband's company held their Holiday Party and used one of the rooms. I had heard wonderful things about this place and was looking forward to the meal! I was very disappointed. The two servers were horriable. They put the plates down and you never saw them again, until they came to get the plates. I had a filet and wanted to add some blue cheese, but she never came back to see if everything was okay. The caeser salad was served wet, so the dressing was all watered down. My fork was also badly bent, but I had to eat with it because again the server never came around again, except to deliver dessert. I then asked for a cup of decaf with cream. she brought the coffee (which was not decaf!) but never the cream. I waited 15 min when she came back to the room, and I again asked for the cream, and she gave me a snotty look, like I was bothering her. I don't think I would give the place another chance, to many other great places to eat in Indy. To bad I can't tell the management about this. read more

The Izzy's steaks were just overloaded with way too many peppercorns. Their regular steaks were much better. The French onion soup was delicious! They served some really good pizzas. The biggest problem was that the service was TERRIBLE!! It took forever to get our food. We had to ask several times for our checks and then instead of separating our checks out, we got the exact same checks. Someone was definitely not paying attention! A regular customer said this was not what this restaurant is normally like but we were just in town for a few days. read more
