I ate there with a large group from work. The atmosphere is dark and dank, and there is little room to walk through the place. I had the steak and I have to say it was the worst piece of meat I've ever had in my life. It was mushy and had no flavor. Salt and pepper didn't help. No sauce or steak sauce was offered, but it probably wouldn't have helped. I only had one bite and the after taste was terrible. The potatoes were still in the shape of the ice cream scoop they were dipped with and the three pieces of vegetables on the plate seemed lost. A week ago from last night I ate a 47 Prime. Had a delicious steak. I had an even better steak at Harry and Izzy's last night. BUT, it was on the second try. I like my strip at a nice medium rare, the one I got last night FIRST was medium well, those were the words from my server. The next NY strip I received was hands down the best steak I have ever devoured. I am annoyed because the server wanted to give me a beer for free to make up for the messed up steak. I declined, only because I was the driver. Then she wanted to give my date and I a free dessert. After declining again, she brings me my check and took off ONE beer. I didn't want to be an annoyance so I went ahead and paid. I did tip over 20% even with the $7.50 beer being taken off. On the way out I ironically ran into a manager, with whom I told the situation. The beer was not my concern what so ever, lol, it was the $40 dollar steak. After telling her that I was expecting to come back soon, and adding that if this happened again I would not pay for a thing, she could not have cared less. For someone to pay $130 for dinner and wants to come back in a week or so, you treat them better than that. It is customer service. While the atmosphere is nice, service was lacking on our servers end. No personality and only saw her to get our order taken. My husband got the Bone in Ribeye which was bland and under seasoned. However, it was cooked properly. I got Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo which had nice flavor but the pasta was extremely heavy and I debated whether it was cooked all the way. A nice restaurant in Downtown Indy. The ambience is very different and reminds me of 80s movies. The service is great and very courteous. The menu had nice options and make sure to listen to the specials. The clam chowder is really good and super filling. The Cod was average and little bland on the flavors. Far from impressed. It was busy due to colts game, but that was to be expected. Appetizer came immediately, but took over an hour to receive entrees. It was never communicated that there would be a delay so I asked to speak with the manager. Our waiter was new and in need of additional training. That is no excuse for an upscale restaurant in my opinion. The manager did acknowledge the error and comped our entrees. The salmon was delicious but the filet had no seasoning at all. This is a beautiful space and has the best looking bar in Indianapolis. It is, pardon the expression, chic and trendy. Lots of rich woodwork and a circular bar. The entire staff is cheerful and accommodating. We had early (4:30) reservations, so there were not many patrons, however, by the time we left, it was full of people. I had the Tomato and Mozzarella Salad. It was huge, with terrific tasting tomatoes. The best! My wife had the Cod, prepared unblackened and with no garlic, and the Fried Green Tomatoes. Alexandra was an absolutely fabulous server. She was knowledgeable about the menu and offered suggestions for cocktails when asked. The food was perfection! Harry's is a 4 star restaurant if you are not comparing it to StEs. I know it's not fair, but when you share shrimp cocktail, you are inviting comparison. It's steaks are great and service is above average. But...it's food quality and swag are no comparison. StEs is Sinatra to H&Is Josh Groban. This bountiful serving of sweet breads, embellished with chocolate chips, topped with ice cream and whipped cream. The finishing touch..... Woodford Reserve bourbon poured over the finished product. Harry and Izzy's was fantastic. I had the Sunday Dinner, which gave a choice of appetizer, entreé, and dessert. I chose the Tomato Basil soup, Filet, and Brownie. All were done perfectly for me. Our server, Jay, was outstanding and I will ask for him next time I'm there. read more

A Experience! Had a great dinner with a big group for business. We were told to go St. Elmo's but couldn't get it. The main goal was to try the famous shrimp cocktail, luckily this is thier sister restraunt so they also had the cocktail. The shrimp cocktail is what they say it is, face numbing horseraddish and large shrimp. Everyone's food was excellent, my filet melted in my mouth and the cheesecake was mouthwatering. I have been wanting to try this place for over a year now. So me and my wife decided to try it out. We tried the "Famous" shrimp cocktail. I like spicy, and let me tell you it is spicy. The ironic thing was that it did not linger. A couple of seconds of fire through the nostrils and then back to normal, Which made it very addictive. I hade the Prime New York with the Gorgonzola topping, and a side of the Spicy Green Beans. Both were excellent, Although I would have preferred my "medium" been a little more pink. My wife ordered the Tuscan Pizza (substituted Spinach for roasted red peppers). the waiter said he had never served that before (Weird) and the kitchen thought it looked "Beautiful". Well. i must say it was awesome. And for my wife to say "Awesome" it is. The crust was thin and crunchy and the toppings were cooked to perfection. My girlfriend and I came to Indy for a weekend of fun and football. I had planned on taking her to St Elmo's or Ruth Chris, but we couldn't get reservations at either. So I found Harry and Izzy's. Because of timing, we got there 30 minutes before our reservation time, and they seated us right away. Probably within 5 minutes of being seated, we had our drinks, bread (which was delicious), and had our order taken. She ordered a fillet, mashed potatoes, and green beans. I had a bone in ribeye, mashed potatoes, and the quinoa edamame kale salad. Everything was amazing! Steaks were cooked exactly how we ordered them. Then we splurged on dinner and got the brownie ice cream thing at the recommendation of our server. Overall, this place was perfect! I don't think dinner took more than 45 minutes total. Took me forever to get a glass of water. Was told the wrong price of the special which ended up being $5 more. Food came as cold as if it was from the refrigerator, so I sent it back, and never got an apology. Very disappointing, considering what we were spending there. What a wonderful experience. I dined in tonight with a rather larger party. We had reservations so the wait was not bad. Our server was excellent. She made a point to not approach the table until the conversation was finish which was well received on our end. Our drinks also never got below half empty. No one ever had to wait on a refill because the wait staff was on top of it. Everyone at my table ordered the infamous shrimp cocktail and I am allergic to shrimp. I instead order the French onion soup. The manager came to me to make sure that she had my allergy correct. She made a point to tell me that she would take special care to see that my food was prepared safely and that it would not come in contact with shrimp. She hand delivered away from the rest of my table to further ensure my safety. She is the epitome of wonderful customer service. It was a wonderful experience and I will be retuning. Second year having the exact same food for anniversary dinner, we are lucky as it coincides with devour downtown, got the filet dinner, with asparagus, the smoked salmon appetizer as my wife does not like shrimp cocktail (I know, I know) and cheesecake for dessert, a glass of Cabernet and a Godiva chocolate martini and it was amazing, had a chance to chat with the manager and she was wonderful (Lindsay maybe) we will be back next year for the same dinner read more

We went there last night and they treated us so well. We made reservations a few weeks ago and put in there that we would be celebrating our elopement and would have a member of our party with a gluten allergy. When we got to our table there was a card waiting for us that the staff had signed telling us congratulations. There was also a gluten free menu on the table as well. A manager came out to explain how they handle gluten free preparations before they put our order in. Needless to say we felt very taken care of on our wedding night! After having attended the Indianapolis 500 during the day (27-MAY-2018), I was looking forward to experiencing one of the touted dining locations in downtown Indianapolis. We were fortunate enough to get a table in their patio seating area without a reservation. While we waited the brief time for the table to be available, we were able to have a cocktail at the bar. The bartender was pleasant and accomodating as we selected two of the signature cocktails. Each of them (a rye based old fashion and a gin based aromatic drink) was prepared well and matched the description. Once we were seated, we were greeted by a friendly waiter who did a great job of enticing us to try two of the appetizers (signature shrimp cocktail and a wonderful thick sliced bacon tidbit). There was a steak special that evening (60 day dry aged rib eye) that was not on the menu. I jumped at that option as it is one my favorite steaks (tender, marbled, and juicy)...please don't tell my cardiologist! The steak (ordered as medium rare) arrived with a wonderful look (grill marks, etc.). But upon first cut it became obvious that this was not a good ribeye. No marbling, dry, over cooked, and tough as the heart of the witch in Snow White. To say this was a disappointment is an understatement. I tried to tough it out by gnawing on a couple of bites...but I gave up finally. Having NEVER said anything negative to any establishment in any dining experience, I was in a complete quandary. I could not let this go unmentioned when our excellent server returned to check on our meal. I took the plunge and expressed my disappointment in the steak as he was clearing my still full plate from the table. He listened as I explained how a good quality ribeye should have marbling and moistness. I then cut the steak into broad strips to demonstrate the toughness, lack of moisture, no marbling (think tri-tip roast with no sign of any marbling), and overcooked (more towards medium well). He was apologetic and offered to remove the steak from my bill (which I declined out of sheer embarrassment from having to be the quality control guy for their kitchen plus I felt that paying gave me the right to share this experience). I asked that he please take the steak back to the chef to show him/her what was being passed off as a top quality piece of beef. I have definitely had better steak at almost every other establishment where I ordered/expected a top quality piece of beef. The two star rating is to acknowledge the lovely cocktail and appetizer we had a chance to enjoy. read more

We popped in for lunch with a party of 15 and were happily accommodated. After we sat down, the restaurant really filled up but our server was very attentive to all 15 of us! My husband and I shared a burger and one of the other couple shared the beef sad witch with au jus and they brought both out split already. I had my own fries and my husband has his. The other couple each had their own cup of au jus as well. We really appreciated that. Our food was so yummy and fresh. Oh, and we had ravioli for appetizer and it was a thumbs up deal! Very happy with my recent dinner at Harry & Izzy's. I have recently decided that I have to stop giving 5 star reviews unless the food is "off the charts". Too many Yelpers throw the 5 star and even the 1 star review out there a bit too freely not realizing the consequences of either creating an over or underrated restaurant. Lets just say H&I's is a solid 4 star restaurant. The shrimp cocktail is as advertised, if you need your sinuses cleared, then give it a go. Wife had the filet and said it was of the best steaks she has had in a while. I had the strip Izzy's style. It was perfectly cooked and nicely crusted, but the sauce was just a tad to sweet for me (still ate it all). Dessert was Brownie Sundae, nothing special and should have probably gone with the Woodford's Bread Pudding. A touch pricey but cheaper than high end steakhouses. All in all a great meal. read more

If I had to pick between Harry & Izzy and St. Elmo's, I think I would have to choose this place. It's not because I'm anti-steakhouse, but it's just steak and this place serves more. If you really need the steak, they serve the same cuts as St. Elmo's. The location of HI is better. It has the corner space and the interior design is more appealing.. you won't get stuck in the basement. 4 stars for being better than it's big brother, but it's just barely better. You won't be able to say you ate at the most well known restaurant in Indy, but I guarantee you you'll be better off. read more
