Overall, we did not receive our mains until an hour after our reservation. The waiting area was thoroughly overwhelmed with customers, although many tables remained open, forcing customers to stand outside. Two members of my party received the wrong sides with our main, but we had no time to send them back. Ambience: 4/5 While well-appointed, the space is labyrinthine, with no strong unifying theme. The waiting area is simply too small. Bread: 5/5 One of few things in life which is both excellent and also free. Grilled Slab Bacon: 5/5 An excellent rendition of what it says on the tin. Not as greasy as it sounds. Sweet and smoky. Pork Chop: 5/5 One of the best pork chops I've eaten anywhere. If you like pork chops at all, this is one worth having. The salmon was excellent, I would not recommend the Oscar style it added nothing. The green green beans were good. The Crab Beignets were my favorite appetizer (not pictured). One of the best dinners I've had. The shrimp cocktail sauce was the best, ever. Never knew that could be a category - the horseradish is strong! The garden salad was very good; the aged ribeye. Izzy style was fantastic and the bread pudding was perhaps the best I've ever had as well. Overall, fantastic. read more

Our waitress/bartender made the absolute best espresso martinis which my bride is obsessed with...and I like to think I showed her how to make a proper Whiskey Sour (I don't kill it with a quart of sour mix - let me know if you want my simple 3 ingredient recipe ) So fun after the Colts beat whoever they were playing. I think the sauce was really good but a little bit too much pepper. Like one side is enough. The fried green tomatoes were crispy. Guac was fresh. Burrata sprout salad was yummy. Service was good but food came out a bit slow. And one person at the table got their steak 15-20minutes before the rest of us even tho we all ordered at the same time. Harry and Izzy's in downtown Indianapolis is a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. My wife and I celebrated our most recent anniversary there and were very impressed with the quality of the food, the wonderful service from our waiter and the ambiance that the restaurant offers. The St. Elmo Shrimp Cocktail (4 jumbo shrimp served with their spicy signature cocktail sauce) is delicious! The shrimp was fresh and juicy, and the sauce has enough kick to knock you back for a few seconds, yet it doesn't linger for too long. For our entrées, we both ordered a Filet Mignon with a side of Redskin Mashed Potatoes and Roasted Asparagus. Our meals were presented and prepared perfectly, and the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. We ended our visit with the Woodford Reserve Bread Pudding (Woodford caramel, fresh whipped cream and dark chocolate shavings) - very filing and a nice desert! A nice spot for a special occasion! We came here for an upscale family dinner and it was a great experience. We were greeted warmly by all the servers and the food was delicious. We started off with the iconic shrimp cocktail! It's pricey since you only get 4 pieces of shrimp for $20, but it was really good. It's very heavy on the horseradish so for non-spicy eaters it might be too much. For entrees, we shared two 14oz steaks between the 4 of us and they were great about splitting the steaks and sides for you. We got the ribeye and NY strip and the strip was slightly better and more flavorful. I appreciate that you get a choice of potatoes or green beans with the steak, many places you have to order everything separately. We did add sides of broccolini and Mac and cheese and the Mac blew us away! And lastly, since we came in for a special occasion they gave us a $12 credit for dessert, which was a really nice touch, so we got a delicious cheesecake! My only complaint is near the end of the night our waiter was a little hard to track down so we didn't get our water refilled for a while and had to wait around to pay the bill. Loved the atmosphere, and our server (Brooke) was nice. However, it was not a great dinner by a long shot. The famous shrimp appetizer is certainly memorable, but it's basically more about the sauce than the shrimp. My filet was "medium" (even "well" on 30%) instead of "medium rare plus." The bread pudding was ample in size and good enough (which is nice), but not amazing. The wine list was extensive, but it would have been nice to have a few good choices that were below $70 (most fine steakhouses have at least a few $50-60 options). All told, I'm sorry to go against the majority here, but this wasn't worth the money, and it didn't live up to the hype. Perhaps I'm spoiled by living in south Louisiana, but every item fell short of what I'm used to back home. 2.5 stars. My scale: 5* = Great for what it's trying to be (from cheap eats to "dive" to fine dining) 4* = Very Good. Would gladly return 3* = Nothing special. Not returning 2* = Not good. I had the 14 ounce dry aged ribeye with green beans. The Mrs. had the 8 ounce ribeye with mash. We could not resist the famous shrimp cocktail, which we washed down with a bottle of Hess Allomi Cabernet Sauvignon topped off with the Woodford Reserve bread pudding with caramel sauce and ice cream. The food here was top notch. I ordered the burger which came with fries. It was cooked to a perfect medium and was juicy, flavorful, and well-seasoned. For sides, we ordered the house made onion rings, fried green tomatoes, and Brussel sprouts. The onion rings were 10/10 as they were smaller than traditional onion rings and lightly breaded like onion straws. The fried green tomatoes were also fantastic! I usually don't love fried green tomatoes, but these were something else- crispy abs fried to perfection. The only disappointment was the Brussel sprouts. They took much longer than everything else to come out and didn't have bacon in them when the menu said they did. Could've gone without those. The service was also impressive.
