Solo lunch date at the recommendation from a friend who was just in town. I was in Indianapolis just for the night. I wanted a top notch meal. I was told Harry & Izzy's was the place to go. The inside is classic steak house. Dark wood, black and white tiles, servers in white button down shirts and ties. I took a seat at the bar and Brenna was right over with water and a menu. She was helpful and made excellent recommendations. I decided to go with the must have items: Shrimp cocktail: four jumbo juicy sweet shrimp covered in their signature cocktail sauce. The sauce was good enough to lick the bowl. I didn't, but you could. Lunch NY strip steak w fries: I always have my steaks prepared medium. This steak was well flavored, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The fries were perfectly crisp served with a side car of ketchup. I was surprised at how generous the portion was for a lunch meal. Bread pudding: this is not a dessert to order by yourself. You will definitely need at least one, maybe two other people with you. This came highly recommended, it was a work expense so why not? The dessert takes a good 15 minutes or so to prepare. Once dessert arrived at my table, I knew it was too much. A dish full of soft soppy bread with chocolate chips, ice cream, whipped cream, and bourbon. You can't go wrong with any of those things. I didn't realize how well bourbon pairs with chocolate. I think the ice cream was a coffee flavor which also paired nicely with I'll definitely be getting this again even if I'm by myself. I had a fantastic experience and meal. We stopped by Harry & Izzy's before a Pacers game and had a great experience! We made a reservation and were seated right away, which was a win considering how busy it gets on game nights. Our server was super nice and attentive throughout the meal. There was a little mix-up when my friend and I started ordering--we were sharing several items to try a bunch of things--but he was quick to clear it up and made sure everything came out as expected. We both kicked things off with a French 75 (always a good choice), then shared: * Prime Beef Meatballs - super tender, flavorful, and that ricotta on top? Chef's kiss. * Toasted Ravioli - crispy, cheesy, and hit the comfort food craving perfectly. * Caesar Salad - fresh, crisp, and classic. * Cilantro Lime Tacos - probably our favorite of the night. Not sure which I prefer! Food comes. Shrimp cocktail is good as always. Ordered the Izzy New York Strip. $50 for a tough as shoe leather steak (that was red inside). Not sure how you do that other than poor quality meat. Waiter only showed up to take orders and bring drinks. Harry and Izzy's is THE spot for my wife and I to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, or if one of us needs to go away for work for a bit. The speakeasy roaring 20's vibe inside the restaurant is awesome. Personally, I recommend requesting a seat that overlooks the restaurant in some capacity. That's not always possible but the staff at least check to see and sometimes I get lucky! It makes the experience much better in my opinion. There's really not many places you can go wrong with the food, it is exceptional. My go to order is the French Onion soup, followed by the NY Strip with the bourbon peppercorn sauce that comes with the mashed potatoes. My wife and I also order the onion rings as a side and they are so crispy and lightly fried. All of that, all of it, is so outstanding. The prices aren't terrible for the experience and food you're getting, it is more on the upscale side; but it is so so worth it and I generally do not feel that way about pricey food. As others have said, the service and the atmosphere here are great. Harry and Izzy's leans upscale, but is still a bit more approachable (in price and ambiance) than St. Elmo's. We dined late on a Saturday night and while the folks we saw upon arrival wore dressy casual/cocktail attire, there were plenty of folks in t-shirts and Jean jackets as the night went on. My table shared onion rings, which were skinny straws rather than the thick version I was expecting. I opted for the prime rib pizza which had a lot of flavor, but the crust was rather soggy on the bottom. I enjoyed the horseradish ricotta, which only had a little kick to it unlike the shrimp cocktail. I think the pizza was actually better the next day when I had the chance to reheat it in the toaster oven and firm up the crust a bit. We came here on a Friday night for my friends 40th. Our table of 9 was sat shortly after our reservation time and we were happy to get started on appetizers. The candied bacon is a MUST order. It was delicious! Shrimp cocktail and tomato salad were also very good. The birthday girl ordered French onion soup and loved it. Our table had everything from salmon, steaks, pasta, chicken and scallops. Everyone was happy with the food. My friends who had the Brussels sprouts warned they were a little spicy, but they still liked them. I can't say enough great things about the scallop dish. Everything was excellent from the quality of the food to service. This is the sister restaurant of St Elmo's. They serve the famous shrimp cocktail and delicious steaks. Coming here is definitely a treat. If you deserve a night out this is the place. Tried the crime brûlée was the perfect ending to the meal. We went to Harry & Izzy again during Devour Indy and everything was back to normal and wonderful. The Devour menu you choose a starter, a soup or salad and an entree for a discounted price. I started with the 3 piece shrimp cocktail with the milder cocktail sauce. It has less horseradish in it. It is much more enjoyable for me. I also went with the Caesar salad. And the smoked pork chops with mashed potatoes. I love the Smoking Goose smoked pork chops. And you get two in the meal so it gave me leftovers for lunch the next day. Our server was very attentive. Every. Single. Dish. Was. Cold. I've never been to a steakhouse where the food was barely luke warm. It was to the point that one of the steaks had butter on top that wasn't even melted. Mashed potatoes cold, brussels cold, mac and cheese cold. I was genuinely shocked. I normally would say something but seeing it was a celebration, I did not want to make it a big deal. This is my second visit to Harry&Izzy's. For a wonder we were seated at the same table as my first visit. It's a nice table so it's all good. I love the classic decor, nothing drily, but definitely classy. Attention to detail is obvious. Service is cordial and experienced, but was almost painfully slow. We were greeted right away but the cocktails took a noticeably long time to arrive. Appetizers were a little quicker (and excellent!) but our waiter seemed to disappear sometimes. The gentleman who tended the water and took care of finished dishes was always at hand, however. All in all, Harry&Izzy's is a sold choice. While pricey, you're paying for the ambiance and quality. That said, I was pretty jealous if the steaks at the table. My chicken was something I won't order again. My mistake! At a place known for steaks why the heck did I order chicken. Bread was served at the table this time, which I didn't try, but my friend loved it. Anyway. My favorite of all our food was the Bacon appeztier. I could have eaten a whole plate of it. Also the dipping sauce for the toasted ravioli was so good I ate the leftover with a spoon. So bottom line: a good experience. Order steak. And get you some of that bacon. We were there on a Sunday night and got the Sunday dinner special -- you have to ask for it, and you should, because it's a great deal. Three courses salmon or chicken dinner for $43 or filet for $55. I assumed the portions would be smaller than normal, but they were NOT, and the entrees came with huge sides of mashed potatoes or green beans. We were stuffed. I upgraded my salmon to Oscar style and it was amazing. Of course, we had to try the shrimp cocktail, which, like everyone says, is somehow both physically painful and spectacularly delicious. The hype is real. I also tried the Elmo Cola and my husband got the blackberry bramble mule, which were both delicious and VERY strong. I'm not sure if the turnover of guests was frazzling the bartender's attentiveness. He seemed to be nicer as the guests started leaving.
