I organized a work event, for an older crowd and this venue was the perfect choice. The level of service was well beyond my expectations. The food was delicious and also top notch for the price, in fact, the chef came out to meet us-unexpectedly, and we were able to show our appreciation. The details the staff provided for our event were appreciated--our guests truly felt welcomed and were able to enjoy a fun evening with excellent food. Ask for Duane if you want exceptional service- he also serves in the bar area at times. Never, in my 11 years of living in Indianapolis have I had this level of service, at any fine dining restaurant. We will be booking again. read more

My husband surprised me with a Valentines dinner here last night. I have to say as packed as it was, I didn't have high expectations. Hubs made a reservation for 7pm and it took about 40 minutes after that to get a table. We started with cocktails, hubs ordered an old fashioned--he said it was too sweet-- but from what I tasted it was good. I had the prosecco sangria--super tasty and thirst quenching! We opted for oysters for an appetizer. Never met an oyster I didn't like! Could have eaten a dozen myself. Next we had a salad--delicious! Then our main dish perfectly cooked stuffed salmon with Brie sauce. That salmon just melted on the tongue. If you've ever cooked salmon, you know it is very easy to over cook it, especially the thinner part of the belly. This alone was the reason for me to want to return and have this dish again! I'm not a big dessert person--but the dessert was a chocolate box filled with sweet cream and berries. Beautiful presentation, simple flavors. Looking forward to having that salmon again. I was in town and came by for lunch. Apparently the only one to was serving was the bartender. It took a while as he was running from the bar to the tables, but he was very friendly. I ordered the lunch special of fish and shrimp. It came with fries and a side salad. The salad came out first and I really enjoyed it. It had candied walnuts and blue cheese. Not something I would typically order, but it was fresh and the flavors complimentary. The entree was a mixed bag. The shrimp was butterflied and overcooked. The flavor was good but it was chewy. I couldn't eat them. The fish was cooked perfectly but SO salty. As were the fries, and I tend to prefer my potatoes on the saltier side. It was obviously an off day. I am willing to give it another shot. Word on the street is, they have a pretty good happy hour. read more

We wanted to try some place new and take advantage of the DevourIndy menu so we decided on McCormick and Schmicks. The restaurant is right downtown Indy and has valet parking from the attached hotel and also a parking garage right across the street. If that garage is full there is another one just a block away. The restaurant is beautiful and fairly large. We noticed they have cozy enclosed booths around the one side of the restaurant and also it looked like they had private dining rooms for special occasions like a wedding rehearsal or something really special. The devour menu had a variety of choices and I decided on the lobster bisque ( creamy and delicious), the steak and shrimp which was cooked perfectly and plentiful and included mashed potatoes and broccolini. I had plenty for leftovers at lunch the next day. My dessert was the flourless truffle cake. It was amazing and so rich you had to save some for later with a cup of coffee. My cocktail was a lavender haze which I expected would be a shade of lavender but it wasn't. Still it was a tasty supper. Our service was friendly and efficient with attention to details. Wait time at the hostess station was so long that I went to the bathroom and came back and still waited to be seated so I sat myself and the lady who was bussing a table told me to wait. Mind you there was only one other table with 3 ladies in the entire restaurant at lunchtime. Once seated the waitress did come over and I had to ask her for a menu please. I then ordered the seafood Alfredo and a margarita. I asked could I have bread with it. She said yes but then returned but said that they didn't have any bread because she was going to make some fresh bread but they didn't have the resources to even MAKE/.SERVE any bread with meals. Once I received my order it was so bland that I had to ask to pepper which took awhile to receive and then I had to walk to the kitchen and yell back "hello" because I couldn't find any staff available to ask for some salt. A "Mgr" was sitting in a corner booth and said that she would bring me some. The dish was bland and very dry Alfredo sauce was minimal to NONE!!! Worst Alfredo facsimiiie that I have ever had! Truly disappoint because I still tipped the waitress because I know it wasn't the wait staff's fault for this dish or for bread ingredients not being available to make bread to serve for meals!! This experience was truly unacceptable and no apologies or attempts to make me whole. I paid asked for a to go to feed my dogs at home ....but McCormick and Schmicks restaurant needs a competent Manager because supposedly a "nice" restaurant this experience was trash and disappointing. I eat out a lot at nice places in fact I had brunch Yesterday at Commission Row. I don't leave reviews and and I always tip well but not once was I asked how everything was so I feel that this review was necessary!! Arrived downtown early before my event and popped in for Happy Hour. I immediately noticed that it was quite stuffy inside. Not sure if they were having issues with the A/C, but it was cooler outside than it was in. I decided to stay after a conversation sparked between a few of us. The bar was pretty full but I managed to squeeze in as a gentleman was leaving. I ordered the Berry Berry Mojito. My cocktail was like summer in a glass. It was the perfect mix of sweet and cool, oOoh so refreshing! I wasn't incredibly impressed by the service. Unfortunately, the initial welcome was lacking from this experience. Water wasn't offered to start and there was a delay from placing my order to having to request for my check, despite being done with my drink. The big question after this experience.. Would I return? Yes. As I wish I had more time to enjoy Happy Hour and everyone has their one off days. The Happy Hour menu did seem pretty good from the quick glance I took. Happy Hour runs M-F, 3:30-6:30pm, which is a great time frame to get downtown after work. read more

Started off at the bar. I was there in time to enjoy their Happy Hour. They have a really great Happy Hour menu. The waitress I had in the bar was very sweet . I ordered a Lemon Drop Martini and because it was such a good deal on drinks, I got a Prosecco Sangria to take into the dining room. The ambiance gave very classic steakhouse. It was nice but not overly pretentious. I ordered the Sugar and Spiced Roasted Salmon. It was cooked perfectly. Seriously one of the best meals I have had in a while. We weren't greeted when we walked in. It wasn't busy. It took someone about 3-4 minutes to help us. Our waitress was amazing. This was my first time visiting. Certain drinks you can't get a refill. I ordered a salad and the dressing didn't agree with my taste buds. Being vegan/vegvegetarian there are only certain things I can eat. My sisters on the other hand enjoyed their food. We chose this place on a whim after being told there was a 2.5 hour wait at another restaurant. I suggested we try this restaurant because I enjoyed my experience at the McCormick & Schmick's that used to be in Virginia Beach, Va. We were quickly placed in our seats upon entering. There was not a lot of customers on this Saturday night. Unfortunately, the heating system they share with the Hilton was not working and it was cold inside of the restaurant. While it was a tad uncomfortable, I didn't want to deduct any stars for something out of their control. For the appetizer, we had the calamari that had the sweet & sour glaze with Thai chilis. I had the Raspberry Mule and it was a delicious drink. That was probably the best calamari I've ever tasted. I would go here again just for that! For the main course, I ordered the dry rubbed black Angus ribeye steak (medium) and lobster mashed potatoes. The ribeye steak was perfectly cooked and the lobster mashed potatoes were great. My family enjoyed the food they ordered. The place has a beautiful decor and our server was great. I'd like to check out happy hour the next time I come here. read more

Attended the wine pairing dinner on 1/26/23. The food was really good. The host , Orin, was very nice and informative. The salad with grapefruit, blood orange, fennel was refreshing. Duck with cherry really tasty, the beef cheeks were succulent, the sauce on the gnocchi was drinkable, so much flavor. It was interesting to learn about the Gallo wines and how they came about and how they got their names. The wines were very nicely paired. It has been awhile since my last review. Service was extremely slow. I realize it is casual dining. It took some time to get out our server so we knew what we wanted before she came to the table. We ordered and 15 min or so we got salads. About 30 to 40 min in server came to the table to tell me they were out of the fish I ordered. So I changed my order. Food was all good. Tea were refilled and emptys removed. We ordered dessert togo. They have a small fee for togo orders. For our two desserts it was $1.35 tacked on to the bill. It seems so unnecessary. We were already spending over 140$ on dinner. I would think food prices should off set items like togo containers and a bag? $1.35 is nothing compared to the total bill. But just felt like a cheap tactic. read more

I believe wholeheartedly in customer service, and this team is awesome. I called to have a dessert sent to my baby sister, who was dining alone for her birthday. I called and spoke to Raina (so sorry if I spelled that wrong), and she was so helpful. I described my sister to her, and she spotted her immediately! After she got instructions from her manager, they were able to do it along with the message I had for her. My sister and I live on opposite sides of the map, and I was not able to celebrate her day with her. She was a little nervous about going out alone for the first time in years. I wanted to give her some sisterly support. I appreciate the effort these guys put in for a random girl and her sister on a busy Saturday night. When I am in town (next week), we will be sure to dine with you guys. Thank you all so much. My sister said her food was delicious (I am on the phone with her now as she eats her leftovers), and the service she received was very good. I was in town for a convention. I got to town on Sunday and went to M&C for a work dinner on Wednesday, the last night of my trip. This was without a doubt the worst experience from start to finish during the trip. We had a reservation for 8 @ 630P. When we walked in there was another group of people already waiting at the host stand but there was no host. The host came back to a packed entrance with around 15 people. She sat the party that was ahead of us. As she walked them back, I looked at the dining room and it was empty. Maybe they let the other host go home early because it was so slow. They sat us in a table in the back of the dining room straight back from the host stand. The server was very nice, but didn't have a clue what she was doing. She took everyone's drink and appetizer orders at the same time. She brought the drinks out first and gave the first few to the wrong people. After she messed up the first couple, she started auctioning them off to the table. There were 2 or 3 conversations going at at this point, so no one was paying attention. The appetizers came out a few minutes later and the same thing happened. This time it wasn't our server dropping food at the wrong spot, but it was other staff members auctioning off apps. When there was no response, the apps were dropped at the closest open spot on the table. The server also rung in 1 of the 2 shrimp cocktails as a shrimp kisser. It created enough confusion with the servers that the manager noticed he needed to come over. The manager seemed more concerned with telling us the mix up would be complementary than with getting the order right. I ordered the shrimp kissers. It's hard to screw up shrimp, bacon and pepper Jack cheese and these were pretty good. I tried a couple calamari too. The sauce the cali came has chilis in it so keep that in mind if you don't like spicy. More of the same during round 3 when the soups and salads came out. People came out with bowls and plates and just started auctioning them off to the table. Bisques were going to people that had salads. There was an extra bisque that was vocally complementary as well. There were so many people delivering food, our server bumped into another server and almost dropped my strawberry salad. She prevented most of the contents of the salad from sliding out of the bowl with the front of her shirt so she had to readjust before dropping it off. I would have said something if I wasn't at a work function. There wasn't much substance to the salad, but dressing was pretty good. Out of the 8 at the table, my entree came out last. If they would have taken the scallops out of the pan when they were plating everyone else's food, the scallops might have been okay. Instead, these were burnt. I was sitting next to a guy from the south that likes seafood and when they dropped these things off he looked at me and said "I thought you got scallops". He was messing with me because these were so over cooked they almost didn't look like scallops. The sautéed spinach and crab hash were decent. The entire dish was dowsed in a lemon butter sauce. If the sauce wasn't there, the scallops would have been in edible. I had a Millionaire's Coffee for dessert. It tasted pretty good. It had whip cream running down the side of the glass which made the entire drink sticky. I think the reason the whip cream was running down the side was because it was frozen when it went on top. As the coffee started warming up the whip cream it melted pretty quick. I'll never go back. I might even pass if I get an invite. read more

My brothers and I treated my parents for their anniversary only to hear that the service wasn't great at all (we didn't go, sent them with a gift card). We have a tradition to send them to a new restaurant every anniversary so they can experience new foods, great service, etc... This was their first time to McCormick and Schmicks. We recognize the information is one-sided, but my parents are NOT ones to complain. If anything, they are very understanding and usually extend more grace than necessary. We would expect top notch service from a fine dining restaurant (as they have experienced other fine dining restaurants around Indy so far), but we were disappointed to hear it was less than sub par. And it wasn't just one thing, there were multiple reasons to justify our dissatisfaction. Also, it sounds like the server took advantage of the fact that there was a language barrier which makes us even more disappointed. My parents are used to it, doesn't make it okay, but it happens, YET we still expect more from a fine dining establishment. Would that service have been so bad if we (fluent English speakers) were there with them?? hmmm... Server's name was Kristen. My parents are NOT ones to complain. I'm also not one to write a negative review. If anything, they asked me not to post this, but I was so disappointed at the MANY things she did that I am writing a review to express my and my brother's frustrations. I won't list them all. The review is purely on service, not food quality (although there was one mishap with the calamari). Service wise - please do better. read more
