Tuesday Lobster Special. That is what drawn me to check out and have an early dinner on a tuesday. Seating was a breeze, As soon as I got in I was directly seated in the back room looking out at the lake view. The crowd was not bad it was busy but not jam packed unlike friday and saturdays evenings. Ordered the Twin lobster special. The option is unstuffed or stuffed with the seafood imperial stuffing which consists of crabmeat , scallops and shrimps. For and extra $4 or so. It came with 2 sides and a 2 pcs of hush puppies. The sides I chose were the rice pilaf and cheese grits. Sweet tea was the drink option for today. So presentation wise it looked sloppy kinda. However the lobster meat was cooked perfectly. Tender sweet juicy and succulent. To be honest one of the best lobster tails I have had. The seafood imperial was delicious! It was seasoned well with crab meat and small scallops and small shrimps. Again the seafood in this seafood imperial was perfectly cooked. I can order that alone and eat it as a side. I think they offer it as a side option for an extra charge. Hush puppies here is ok I have had better ones elsewhere - Its ok. The cheese grits was somewhat runny and I can taste the broth they used as the cooking liquid - It was not cheesy as what I have gotten elsewhere but it was delicious. You get a good portion from a bowl serving. The Rice pilaf is not your standard rice pilaf. I just order it because I like rice pilaf. LOL It is somewhat bland but its rice and I love rice. They should add more broth and more pasta to the rice dish in my opinion. Add parsley too. Good portion served in a bowl. I was actually given dinner rolls as a starter this time! I didnt know they handed dinner rolls! They remind me of those homebaked rolls - Soft and warm served with whipped butter packets. It was delicious. The service was good the sweet tea was refilled in a timely manner. I ordered the delicious coconut cream pie to go. So once I was cashing out I asked for a takeout box and extra rolls. The server Ashley stated to me she already gave me dinner rolls (from the start of the meal) but then she caught herself and told me she will grab me more rolls to go. In my opinion.. This place was fantastic. We ate here after arriving from our flight. QuickRing realizing all the food at Legoland is basically garbage I took to yelp and found this gem. The snapper and salmon was very fresh and was delicious. The Tuesday special was lobster tails that my son loved so much he was licking the shell. Everyone that worked there was very friendly and the service was top notch. I managed a high end steakhouse in cali and I swear the natural interaction between the staff and us was better then I've seen at the most expensive restaurants. Had a lovely dining experience at Harry's Old Place two nights in a row. The first night my husband and I were seated immediately and had a lovely view of the outside lake from our table. We kicked off the night with fried oysters which were absolutely delicious and not overly greasy. For my entree I had the surf and turf which was absolutely cooked to perfection! The lobster was juicy and flavorful. My steak was prepared perfectly well done within being dry. The coleslaw was so good we had 2 orders. Moreover, the side of fries were also very crispy which I enjoyed. My husband had the fried catfish. He said the breading was a bit salty but the fish was perfectly. Very tender and juicy on the inside. Our 2nd night we started with drinks since we had a 30 mins wait. They had very charming swing benches outside which is where we sat and swinged while waiting for our table. I enjoyed the serenity of the property on the lake and my margarita which was made with perfection. My had the escargot as an appetizer and they were prepared deliciously with mushrooms and a toasted buttery brioche in slices which was convenient to pick up as an appetizer. My entree was the charred broil grouper sampler which came with scallops, shrimps, and fresh crab; absolutely delicious!! I had it with fries which were scrumptious. Loved kids meals which included ice cream which my daughter absolutely loved. My husband had the Brenzino Seabass which was absolutely delicious and charred broiled. Phenomenal service by our waiters on both night. Also appreciate the Manager checking up on us both nights. Thank you for a lovely dining experience. We started with a fried onion loaf that was HUGE, very crispy and enjoyed by all three of us. Entrees included the fresh swordfish and haddock with the sauces on the side. Been going here for a few years and loved it. My daughter was in town and took her there. Not good! Acid Rock music (very loud), people trying to have a conversation with their company were yelling at them over the music which made things worse. We finally got to Harry's after hearing so many good things about it. The restaurant sits next to a beautiful lake that is completely surrounded by trees that makes it look like your on a private lake in Alaska. The seafood was the best we've had in Winter Haven. Very fresh with many choices of fresh fish that you have cooked to order with various rubs and toppers. We started with the smoked fish dip that was the best that we've had in the area. We tried their two house made Sangrias. The Red Berry was our favorite but the peach one was also nice. For the entrees: I chose the Corvina Monterey: Corvina topped with Artichoke Hearts, Sun dried Tomato, Mushrooms, Garlic, White Wine, and Parmesan Cheese. As a Corvina virgin, I was new to this fish which was very light and moist and soft sweet flesh somewhat like a snapper. It was delicious and a large portion. I also got the cheese grits that had an expensive cheese taste that I could not pinpoint but loved. The meals also came with fresh hot dinner rolls and hush puppies that were fabulous. My wife got the "Surf and Turf Hers (6 oz) Filet and 4 oz Lobster Tail. The price was lower than Outback that only gives you a sirloin. Both items were excellent and the filet was cooked to the requested temperature. We finished with the house made cream style and slightly frozen Key Lime Pie. It was as good as any we've had. Our server Ashley was excellent with very prompt service and great verbal reviews of the extensive menu along with a bubbly demeanor that was infectious. Our red potatoes we ordered for our sides were not fully cooked. Potatoes had no seasoning. Green beans , fresh but bland . Bread was just bland . Everything was just mediocre to me . The cheesy grits were the most disappointing. We absolutely love cheesy grits and have had them many ways in at least 5 states and they always have a different flavor or there own special taste but these were so bland . We went to Lego land and were looking for some good food near the hotel and we saw Harry's. Once inside we were greeted by the staff in such a warm manner, we knew we were in the right place. We are from miami and no stranger to fresh fish, and every dish delivered. The gator sausage with pimento cheese was outrageous (we love gator). The escargot was out of this world. The onion loaf is a must try. The key lime pie and peanut butter pie are dreamy. Everything was SO GOOD and I cannot wait to come back. This is my place. Ok I gave this place a one star for being honest about its name "Old" Housed in an old shack like structure along the banks of one of Winter Haven Florida many little lakes with a challenging dirt parking lot that allows one vehicle to either enter or exit but never at the same time. It is old, and so is the railing I'm asked to pull up to in the parking lot so old it's frightening. There isn't much room to park back here along the rickety railing, so the party in the black KIA suv taking up three spaces makes it even more challenging. But I soon understand. This place is mobbed with older old folks out for their Saturday night dinner date at 4:00PM. Judging from the wait time the must start arrive here at about 3:30PM. The place is packed inside and out. Which means there must be about 100 diners inside and out with another 100 waiting inside and out. The noise level is beyond my friends hearing- aids volume control. He took them out while we waited and still the noise was as deafening without them. But all these people can't be wrong. Something good is about to happen, isn't it ? Nope not even close. Our poor waitress could hardly hear us as we shouted our orders. Fish and chips, fries, and coleslaw, Fried fish platter with fries and coleslaw. Two mixed fish casseroles which we were told was a casserole of shrimp, scollops, crab baked in butter with crumb topping, with fries and coleslaw. Wait change one coleslaw to a salad. Hot rolls come out six to the basket warm but mostly flattened. Dinner arrives, no coleslaw, wilted greens salad. The deaf friend loves his cod fish and chips, my fried fish platter looks good I can see shrimp, oysters, and scallops under a mound of clam necks. The shrimp was delicious, the oysters mushy, the scollops sour, the cod pieces dry out ends. Not the dinner I expected. The casseroles were a mushed mixture of unidentifiable shredded stuff in a mayonnaise base covered with bread crumps. There was absolutely no identifiable seafood in this mush except the color running through the mayo did look like crabmeat. So we complained. The manager slips us six fried shrimp and a piece of cheese cake as compensation. This place just isn't worth the drive, the wait, the money or the deafening noise to warrant a return visit. Meh. Heard so many good things about this place that I had high expectations. I had the fresh fish, the Bronzino fillets, they were small and very dried out. I ordered them with the caper garlic butter, and the capers were dry and hard. Also, the hush puppies were hard as a rock, and not hot and the french fries were barely warm. My husband had fresh tacos and they two were overcooked and dried out. Maybe we hit it on a bad night, the place was packed, but sometimes there's just no accounting for taste. Fish n chips was excellent - great taste and didn't need a knife to cut through hard battered over-fried fish like many other places I've tried. This fish was tender and lightly coated with great flavor! The COLE SLAW was the BEST I've had since my mother's!!! Everything is homemade and the best quality food! Before the fire this was the best place in Winter Haven to eat. The fish was always cooked to perfection. BUT I have been 3 times since they reopened and the food has only been mediocre at best. Very good seafood! Lots of positives dining at Harry's. The restaurant is by a lake, so certain views can be very pleasant. The quality and variety of fresh seafood is very good. They offer many preparations ((blackened, broiled, fried...). They also offer seafood boils. I've only had a few things on the menu, but I look forward to expanding and trying new items soon. I've tried the 'dinner' fried shrimp and chicken strips. Both were very good. I had boiled new potatoes and a side salad with them. I always ask for melted butter to accompany the potatoes. The side salad is very simple, but the lettuce is green and fresh. The ranch dressing is also very tasty. I will say the lunch fried shrimp is different than the dinner fried shrimp. They are definitely smaller, but the lunch portion is still generous. The lunch 'basket' $11.99 comes with one side and an inconsequential condiment cup of coleslaw (maybe two bites). Which partially accounts for my rating. The other being the dark haired gentleman who has seated us the last few times I've dined at Harry's. He doesn't smile, he definitely doesn't seem personable. He seems irritated and it's not very welcoming, to say the least. In addition, on our most recent visit, our server never stood at our table long enough for us to request things we needed (cutlery, extra ranch, lemons, sweetner). As we were speaking, he would be walking off, going to get one item, but we needed other things. He would never stand there long enough to engage with us. Thankfully, that isn't the case with all the staff. I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND Harry's, but like most restaurants there's always room for improvement. Yea this little place was good. I got the fried haddock with 2 large red potatoes and coconut cake for dessert. It was all excellent. Would definitely go back. The service was good as well. Friendly waiter. Also I was surprised at how low the prices were. Didn't notice until the bill came, but these are prices from 10 years ago. I think my fish was about $14 and the large piece of cake was under $5. This in no way compromised the quality of food though.
