Wonderful setting in a small secluded valley in Laguna Beach. Only al little ways in from Pacific Coast Highway but seems like a world away. There is a small boutique/luxury hotel, a 9 hole golf course and this restaurant. Beware, no cell signal here, but they have free wifi. Parking is kind of a pain but they have free valet. Restaurant is nice, clean, open, bright. Been here a few times. Seems kind of like a popular place for "housewives of OC" kind of crowd, but sprinkled in with a few retirees playing golf. Only tried the salmon burger but it was delicious. Nice little getaway if you're in the Laguna Beach area and need something quieter. read more

I'm two weeks late rating this restaurant. We have been remiss in knowing it ever existed! We had such an enjoyable evening listening to a guitarist while enjoying drinks outside in the canyon. Brunch and a serenity retreat experience rolled into one? Sure! It's located on a private road off PCH in Laguna Beach. You have arrived at The Ranch. I always prefer a table outside; let the beautiful environment envelop you. I don't know. I'm the type who will sacrifice food for a view of natural beauty. So going in, my expectation for food dropped immediately. It's rare that a restaurant can knock you out on both fronts. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Did it knock me out? No. But much better than I anticipated. The "best burger" was really juicy and pretty darn good. Service made me wonder if they were being held against their will. Our server seemed really skittish and nervous. I prefer more cheerful; less servitude. OUR EXPERIENCE AT THE RANCH: 1. The location is SMALLER THAN THE PHOTOS SHOW with golf course view-if you are lucky enough to get window/patio table. 2. The place is NOT IDEAL FOR FAMILY WITH KIDS, or group more than 4. We had party of 10, reservation was made well in advance, celebrating 2 birthdays. THEY DON'T ACCOMMODATE EASILY, We arrived 45mins early and were not in rush to be seater for another hour. We were hoping to sit at outside patio or closer to the window-they said that's the only area we can sit-even through all they did was bring 3 tables together. 3. The service started ok, but when the waiter was told to start taking order at the other end of the table, he rolls his eyes. When we were taking time ordering, he sighs. 4. When we asked for additional plates considering 4 kids were sharing meals, he makes snarky remark "you want 5 plates for 1 small salad"- we actually had 10 plates of food that we already had ordered and were going to share with kids. 5. We brought this to manager's attention "BRENNAN", he apologized and said all the right things, i.e. he will see what he can do for inconvenience and will speak with the waiter. My sister and my niece took me to this restaurant. I ordered the ceasar salad. It was delicious and authentic. I also ordered the duck wings as an appetizer. To be honest the duck wings and the salad could have been my meal. The duck was fantastic with a little bit of spice. My main course was the ribeye steak . How I finished this? I don't know! The steak was ok. I have had more tender ribeye. It was well seasoned. The service we received was great. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. Be prepared it is a little pricey. Ok, I would have given this place 5 stars for the setting and experience alone, but we weren't able to get a reservation at a decent time for my birthday dinner. So we ended up having lunch here instead, and I was really impressed! This is a wonderfully designed upscale modern ranch style restaurant and bar at The Ranch at Laguna Beach. I so enjoyed the setting here, with the large panoramic windows looking out into the gorgeous canyon and lush green golf course views. The menu is a bit limited, but had enough yummy choices for what we expected would be a very pleasant lunch. We were immediately seated by the hostess out front, and led to a booth by the window.....wow!.....nice views! Then our server came over shortly after and brought us the drinks and lunch menu. Since were staying here and didn't need to drive anywhere, we decided to try a couple of their beers with their lunch. Our server then came back and took our drink orders....she was so nice and friendly and even helped me choose the best beer for me.....since I'm not usually a beer drinker....but since my friend was having one, I decided to try one too. Although the lunch menu is somewhat limited, there was nevertheless a good selection of yummy lunch items to choose from. I love chicken salad sandwiches, so I went with the Moroccan Chicken Salad Sandwich, with a side of coleslaw....(you have a choice of fries, salad, tabbouleh, or coleslaw), and my friend ordered the Ben's Best Burger with a side of coleslaw.....(also with the same choices). However, how does one eat sandwiches or burgers without fries?.....really?! So we steered a little away from our healthy meal and ordered a side fries....which was a huge bowl!. Everything was absolutely delicious! I had expected the chicken salad to be filled with all kinds of overwhelmingly salty spices, but it actually came out quite mild...which I found just perfect. The portion of filling was very generous in between the fresh and yummy toasted multi grain toast......I was totally stuffed after finishing the whole thing.....plus the fries.....plus the beer. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her burger and told me it was "soooooo goooood!" Oh, we had also ordered the Avocado Toast as a starter (with an over east egg added) and .....wow, it was so nicely put together that we really didn't want to ruin it.....but eventually did anyway.....loved the toast, but I must say, it was really nothing (taste wise) compared to our main lunches. And that large bowl of fries?.....needless to say, we couldn't stop eating it and finished it to the very last piece. I came to try this restaurant on my birthday with three others. The restaurant is beautiful and the views are stunning. I believe this is why the prices are so high at this restaurant. First off the bar menu is a bit too fancy in my opinion. The first drink I ordered was a mescal pineapple infused drink. I've had Mecal in the past and have enjoyed it many times. This drink was so smoky I couldn't drink it. I had to return it to the bartender. He said was it too smoky? I replied "yes". I then asked him for a sweeter drink, and he suggested a vodka, grapefruit type drink. I cannot recall the name of it. It was very beautiful and it had what I thought was a sugar rim on the glass. The drink was "average". As I drank it I quickly found out that what was on the rim of the glass was a large amount of salt. I was pretty shocked. It just didn't match the drink. Bottom line, the bar needs to make much better drinks to match the price point. I have no problem paying $18 for a drink but it is disappointing to struggle with drinks that do not taste good. I resorted to a lemon drop with a sugar rim. It was very good. I had hoped for a special of some type of fresh fish but they said there was no special for the evening. I do not care for salmon or whole branzino. These were the fish choices on the menu. Food: we had the bread and squash blossoms for appetizers. They were both delicious. The squash blossoms had 3 pieces and were $23. Pricy for sure and with 4 at the table a bit awkward. The bread was $ 21. Pricy as well. The shrimp pasta was very good and priced at $36. There were 4 shrimp in the dish. Tasty but pricy for pasta. The Salmon was average and around $42. Scallops were good but the polenta and mushrooms were a bit heavy of a side for the dish. This dish was $52. They served me a complimentary apple pie ala mode which was a nice touch. The ambiance and service was top notch. Overall this restaurant needs to step up their food game to charge these high prices. The bar needs to work on their signature drinks. When I have to resort to a lemon drop the bar has failed. If I could give a negative I would. We went there and had Brandon, manny and Luis. At first they were awesome and said we could allow seats beyond where the chairs were but once our friends arrived, we weren't allowed. We got over it. Then, we ate and drank with our friends once they arrived. We had engaged with a couple ladies about random things. Much later, a man to their left didn't like what we were talking about and made a nasty comment about something we discussed and I replied (it was so insignificant And brief don't even remember what it was) and he left angrily. The ladies and I was in agreement with our topic. The man was NASTY angry and commented and walked way. I'm guessing that had something to do with what occurred even though it was so minute, when I asked for another drink they all three came over to say they were cutting me off with no explanation. Then, I tried to ask why (I was not belligerent or anything) and they wouldn't even speak to me. I was blown away. There were zero signs of intoxication. I did nothing to deserve that or at least I deserved an explanation. What a terrible experience. And, the guy commented to me not the other way around. Terrible, terrible experience and random behavior. I have never been so horrified in my life. The food is less than average and their behavior to a local is incomprehensible. The very fact they cut me off because of some nasty, angry man without even talking to me? That is just pathetic. Poor business model. read more

The golf course There was really nice country music playing which was relaxing and peaceful The seating was also very comfortable with heat lamps and umbrellas as needed The food took awhile but we didn't care We have Cobb Salads that although on the pricey side we're high quality and delicious. My girl and I couldn't have picked an amazing restaurant to celebrate our anniversary! Just an absolute great overall experience. Phillip was the amazing person that was taking care of us and he provided great overall service! From start to finish, he made sure we had our drinks and food in time. He even went the extra mile in taking our picture to capture the beautiful scenery of the hills and golf course. I had the grass-fed ribeye and my girlfriend had the grass-fed beef & pork bolognese. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, the drinks complimented the food. We left 100% satisfied and we'll definitely be back! The poor review is for our negative experience with their hostesses. A small group of us stayed at The Ranch on a Saturday in March 2021. One of us woke up early and headed over to Harvest to reserve a table for breakfast around 8:30. The restaurant did not look crowded, there was no line, tables were empty and servers were standing around waiting to assist. The hostess however, said that they DO NOT take reservations and that the wait was over 1 hour and 15 minutes. She reluctantly put her name down. And our friend went to sit down on a bench in front. The rest of us arrived 15 minutes later at 8:45. The restaurant was still fairly empty, and still no line. I walk over and kindly ask her how the wait was looking and she adamantly states - 1 hour AND 15 minutes still. Okay so we decided to walk over to the coffee stand for some coffee and light snacks while waiting. I talked to the barista and asked him if we could sit on one of the empty tables (there were a lot of empty tables) and he said the tables belong to the restaurant but that we shouldn't have a problem getting seated because it was not busy. I told him what the hostess said and he gave us a weird look. After we got our coffee I walked over approx 8:55 now, still no line, no one else has entered the restaurant, I kindly asked the hostess what the update was and she said - it's STILL over an hour 15 minute wait. I glanced over at her tablet and saw our name at the TOP of the list and it clearly said "8 minutes" - but I didn't not call her out in it. Frustrated after 10 minutes went by, I went to my phone and opened OpenTable. I looked up Harvest - lo and behold - there were reservation spots available. I booked thru the app for 9:15. Then I walked over and asked them to look up the reservation under my name instead. She saw it and looked embarrassed, but proceeded to say - yes it's there but we can't seat you until it's closer to your time. Ok sure Not once did I make a big fuss about it. Nor did I call her out on not mentioning that we could've went to the app to check for a reservation. She made us sit in front of a fairly empty restaurant for 45 minutes unnecessarily. No idea why. If I had to guess and if race was a factor - our entire group was Asian. We got seated and had wonderful experience with the servers. The food is great I love the avocado toast. But because the hostess was so bad we are wary of ever coming back. Perhaps management should look into training these hostesses to be more helpful and kind. read more

A group of 6 of us went for my fathers 60th birthday, and we had a less than desirable experience. Our waiter, Jacob, was kind and helpful. However, we could never find him. We even heard multiple other guests talking about how nobody could find their server. Again, Jacob was very nice, but overall his service left the table waiting quite a bit. The drink and food times were TERRIBLE! I ordered a beer, and I waited 10 minutes for the server to come over and tell me they ran out. After I ordered a different beer, it took AT LEAST another 10 minutes to receive it. The food took so long and didn't even get delivered together. So my grandmother and brother were left sitting without food for an extra 5-10 minutes. My wife ordered another cocktail and it took over 15 minutes to get the drink. The server even knew bc he came back and you could tell he was embarrassed and tried to come up with an excuse for the bar. The worst of all, I ordered a side of carrots for my hummus... not only did it just never show up... the server came with a dessert menu thinking we were completely done with dinner ... and we still hadn't received our side order of carrots. Overall, we won't be back. Really unfortunate bc we are all laguna beach locals for 4 generations and would love to be able to support and recommend. read more

Harvest popped up on my search of brunch finds for South OC. It's located at the Ranch golf course off of PCH. I'd never been there before but the grounds are gorgeous after the recent rain in SoCal. My date and I arrived early for our reservation and were seated right away. They have two-person booths which are located next to the windows by the bar. The restaurant boasts a giant roaring fireplace with comfy couches for lounging. There's an outdoor patio that you can be seated in but with the cold weather, we sat indoors. The views are beautiful. They have sunshades that come down to block out the morning sunlight. The menu is fairly simple which includes some local farm to table specialties. We both asked for coffee and then ordered the Sunrise and Gingersnap fresh juices ($8). Both juices were really good and featured ginger. The Sunrise had a subtle ginger flavor but the Gingersnap was very zippy. I fixated on the biscuits and gravy ($11) while he opted for the chilaquiles ($14). Our server, Manny, was great. He checked in on us frequently to see if we needed coffee refills. The food came out fast and was delicious. The fennel sausage was the spicy variety and the biscuits were flaky. It was perfect. His chilaquiles were a pretty presentation with the scrambled eggs, sauce soaked tortilla chips, black beans, and microgreens in a hot cast iron skillet. The ambiance was really nice and so was the company. They have a full bar and I saw some folks with mimosas but I didn't order one. I'd be interested in returning for dinner. The ambiance is great. It so lovely there. The food is really nothing special and very expensive. What you pay for is view and experience. The live music is good. If you go for drinks and snacks it's perfect. I just miss excellent food. We had today BBQ chicken pizza and it was okay. The margarite pizza was tasteless. The salads were okay as well. I did like the pickled onions. It seems since Covid, the food is just lacking pretty much everywhere. I will say the food at Lost Pier, by the same company is very good. The valet people are very nice. The bar service staff aren't great. Today ordered coffee, they sat for so long they were cold by the time our buzzer went off. I have eaten brunch here twice recently and all I have to say is the eggs Benedict is one of the best I have had. Best Hollandaise sauce, perfectly poached eggs, incredibly delicious thick slice of ham. Potatoes served with it so good that you will not leave any on your plate. The lunch fare is good but not as good as the eggs Benedict. The salmon salad is delicious with the fish cooked to perfection and the club sandwich gigantic and fresh. The location is wonderful- the grounds of the Ranch Resort secluded and snuggled within a Canyon. The ambiance alone is worth a trip there. Saw her chatting to her coworkers while we waited around for her to bring our drinks, food took forever, forgot about my husband who asked for blue cheese and more water. Never got. Her name was Megan and she was nice but for an establishment like this, the lack of urgency was astonishing. I would understand if it was busy however it was not. I'll start with the positive aspects of our experience yesterday at The Harvest. The food is very good and the grounds are beautiful. Unfortunately the reasons for my rating would cause me to not go there again or recommend it to others. I made a reservation for lunch on Saturday at 1:15 for 5 to celebrate my 75th birthday with my family six days prior to the event. I received 5 text messages requesting replies to confirm my reservation including the last one assuring me my table was ready at 1:12. When we checked in with the hostesses(3) we were asked if we wanted to eat in or out. I told her I made the reservation for outside. Although all are fully vaccinated because of age, medical co-morbidities and the Delta surge we are no longer eating inside. I was told we would have to wait 30-40 minutes for our table! I was very upset by this. We waited outside and I went back in to ask for a pager. There were now 4 hostesses, doing nothing, at the reception desk. I told them I would mention this incident in my Yelp review. After a few minutes one of them came outside to tell us our table was ready. We sat down and ordered four "to share" items, drinks and our entrees. Three of the "to share" items were delivered but no plates or spoons to serve with. We requested these, none came. Another server came to deliver the fourth item but still no plates or spoons. We requested them from her but none came. Finally the first server returned to refill drinks and we again asked for plates and spoons which she finally brought. Sorry this is so long but these are things that can turn what should have been a memorable event into a very pricey disappointment. read more

Good food, amazing atmosphere, great place for a meal with parents or friends~ My mom and I came for brunch with a reservation on a Saturday. My mom ordered the Chilaquies ($14) and I got the Fried Chicken Sandwich ($17), which comes with a choice of side (fries, chips, or salad). The Fried Chicken Sandwich was HUGE!!!! Chicken was thicc, juicy, and crispy, vegetables that came with the sandwich made it seem not super heavy. Due to the thiccness, is was a bit hard to eat, had to cut the sandwich in pieces to fit the whole thing in my mouth. Side salad was pretty standard, like how there was pickled onions in my salad, portion was big for a side as well. I couldn't finish half the sandwich since it was humongous! I tried my mom's Chilaquies, although a bit salty, the red sauce was good and portion size wasn't too big. Price is reasonable here for the portion, atmosphere, and service.
