I expected a classier crowd... but it was a whole bunch of loud obnoxious people. The staff here thinks it's a great idea to have a couples sitting next to three big parties. I couldn't even hear the person next to me because these big parties were so loud and obnoxious. People literally shouting. I left with the piercing headache.The waiter did nothing either.. he was probably more interested in their bigger tip. Food is inconsistent. Sometimes it's good sometimes it's bad. I got the Halibut ($34.00) it was cooked nicely however it came with a tiny bit of Bok choy..not filling and not that great of flavor. Pelican hill is better and I'm treated like royalty even though I'm not. The crowd is better there too... quiet and well mannered. This restaurant review was actually more than two years in the making, simply because it took that long for the owners and contractors to rebuild the place. No, it didn't burn down or anything of that nature; it was an old building/restaurant, in much need of renovating. That's how long it took. What we're talking about here is now a brand new restaurant, called Harvest, located in what is an entirely brand new complex, called The Ranch, in Laguna Beach, California. This establishment is now a newly renovated building, build around the Ben Brown Executive Golf Course, which has 9-holes, pars 3 & 4. The golf course didn't need renovating, it was always maintained. However, the little snack bar, and quite a sizable lodge resort complex was in need of renovating - along with this major restaurant. That's why the two years renovation. In fact, the restaurant was the last on the list to reopen. As a side note, the resort lodge complex now includes a salt-water pool, set to 80 degrees, a pool area snack bar, a Jacuzzi, as well as a small gym and therapeutic center. Actually, the renovations mentioned so far would make for an interesting review; we even have pictures of all these renovations as well. However, for now, we'll just stay on the subject of the restaurant. Unfortunately, at this point in time, we cannot say that we are totally positive about what we experienced. However, we feel this restaurant does have potential. After all, they are probably going through some expected growing pains. In reality though, much of what we encountered was probably more the fault of our waitress. Like the restaurant, she is no doubt new, and maybe needs a bit more training and/or experience. How do we know this for sure? Well, for one thing, when we asked for our left-over food to be boxed up for us to take home, she did so. However, upon arriving home, we discovered that the two sauce/liquid containers that she packed up didn't even have lids on both, creating one big mess. At that point, it was just easier, and far more practical, to throw everything out. Furthermore, while in the restaurant itself, the food was served on the rather cool side. Therefore, we actually had to send it back, not once, but twice. That was totally unacceptable. Our waitress did mention that the restaurant were short-staffed, which may have been nothing more than an excuse. Besides, the place was not really all that crowded. Yet, let's now get back to the basics. Overall, the restaurant itself is quite nice, it rather reminds us of, and looks like the Claim Jumpers restaurants. In other words, it has that outdoor, rustic, but indoor lodge look, with a big fire place. The main restaurant is more on the open side, in other words, one open type space. No problems or complaints there. That style we liked very much, and will certainly return again, once these select issues are corrected. Yet, in their favor, once the food was finally served hot, the staff apologized. Additionally, as a goodwill gesture, they offered to take $10 off our bill. At least they were aiming in the right direction. Overall, the food was very good, yet a bit on the expensive and sparse side. Even the dessert menu only consisted of three items. Therefore, that is really our first official complaint regarding the food itself, the menu definitely needs to be expanded. Yet, maybe our recent experience is all part of their growing pains that hopefully, the menu selection and options will expand over time. That was more of a concern to us, much more so than the rather high prices. We frequent many restaurants, some on the rather expensive side. Therefore, high prices are not that big of a concern to us, as long as the food and service are worth it. We are actually hoping for both the prices and the menu selections to indeed match in the near future at the Harvest. Now, let's talk about the food itself. After all, the food is what a restaurant is really all about. As was mentioned before, the overall service was also a bit on the slow side, which could be nothing more than growing pains, as well as a very poor waitress. Hopefully, all of these things will change in a relativity short time. Then, we'll try this again. The food is good, very good, in fact. That's why we feel the Harvest Restaurant is defiantly worth another try. It would not really take that much effort to make the necessary improvements Deborah and I ordered, and shared, one of their entrees: of Steak with French-Fried Potatoes, with a Béarnaise Sauce, the Lobster Bisque soup, and the Chocolate Mousse Dessert. We were still a bit hungry, so we ordered, and again sharing, a burger, with more French Fries. This burger was exceptionally good. In fact, it was one of the best we ever had. The bottom line, give this restaurant a try anyway. We feel it is worth it, even if you encounter what we did. It was nothing that can't easily be overcome, anyway. We started with the special that was pea soup with bacon. It had a kick and it was very good. My husband ordered the bone marrow and it was also pretty darn good. For drinks he had an old fashioned from the outside bar and it was better than the one from the inside bar (whoops). I had a non alcoholic berry drink that was ok but nothing like that mojito in Ventura. (If you read my reviews, you know). For our entrees I ordered the yellowtail with black rice and my husband ordered the branzino. The yellowtail was magical man. The black rice cake with a spicy pesto and veggies. I love how all their dishes have veggies, sooo good. My husband liked his dish as well. Although he liked it better at The Fig in Santa Monica. For dessert we ordered the triple chocolate bread pudding it comes with a chocolate and bourbon sauce, caramel sauce, nuts and nuts. I would've preferred it without the bourbon but that's just me. Came here for dinner after a beach day in Laguna and it was absolutely perfect! Our server, Wissam, was very knowledgeable and attentive. We ordered the Spanish octopus to start, and it was amazing. Definitely recommend. For our entree, my sister and I shared the braised short rib, and we got the strawberry butter cake for dessert. Both were delicious. Most of the food was edible but not much more. Given there are so many choices around here and since it's expensive, it gets one star. We were a party of four that ordered mostly Vegetarian food. The Risotto was bland (not edible), the gnocchi was bearly edible with the olives fighting for dominance with the rest of the vegetables. The mac n' cheese was grainy with a clear after taste. The bread was decent, broccolini was fine as well. Service was friendly yet disorganized with several people coming to the table to check on us and not really being helpful. Had quite high expectations after reading several reviews and unfortunately came up a little short... Booked reservations for Friday night on OpenTable for a party of 2. We were running a few minutes late and called the restaurant on our way to advise them of there delay. I was happy they were able to still accommodate us and our table was ready when we arrived. The atmosphere was lively and the views were beautiful. There were lots of families around but we were seated in a booth near the corner of the bar so we were offered a little more privacy. (More date night appropriate) Our server was fantastic and extremely sweet which made up for the long wait for food and drinks. As a plant based eater, i was excited to see what offerings they had after seeing the restaurant noted as vegan friendly, but was a little underwhelmed. Ended up with a cup of soup and salad for nearly $30. It didn't even come with bread (I had to ask for some). My husbands meal did look good. He had the daily fish special, but again I felt it was overpriced for a piece of fish over succotash. Should we have guests in town, I would likely come back to enjoy drinks on the patio. I've been here on many occasions over the years. Last night was my first time since the pandemic started. The new menu is even better. Service is stellar!! View and ambiance are good as always, outdoor patio that looks out to the hills and the golf course, and indoor with fireplace, bar and booth seating. Duck wings are flavorful. We came here with family tonight and immediately felt welcomed by our waiter and the cozy-cabin-living-room environment. The ingredients used in each entree were fresh, it really felt as though they were from a farm nearby. Our family shares and passes around bites of our food, and the most liked items ordered were the black rice scallop dish, and the Mac and Cheese. An honorable mention is the Vegan Curried Cauliflower side, which had an amazing aroma and a perfectly spiced taste. The valet is complementary, and returned our car in a timely manner. And the Cornhole games outside the restaurant entertained our little one while we waited for food. The food did take about an hour to arrive, which caused us to spend an hour and a half at the restaurant, which is eons when there's a child in the party. But, the place was really busy so it is probably normally a shorter wait. And our waiter was quite courteous and polite, and kept us updated on the food. We all enjoyed our meals. I hope those visiting Laguna consider visiting this unique restaurant. read more

I made a reservation for 14 for my husbands 60th birthday. All guests were seated prior to our arrival as planned. The dining room is beautiful, the food was great but.....the back waiters "auctioned off" the food. "Auctioning off" the food is for Denny's, or a mom and pop Italian where "who's got the meatballs" may add a certain charm to the dining experience. But when a large table of family and friends are gathering I don't want to be interrupted to help the staff figure out their job. When the appetizers came out I noted this the front waiter and told him that I know his software allows him to notate the seat of each guest which should take the mystery out of where each plate should go. He said he would make sure that the food auction didn't happen with the entrees. But, sure as ****, when the entrees came out the auction started again. The tip alone was over $200, and to be honest I didn't feel like it was earned. I am a big fan of tipping for great service but not when I have to assist. Next time we will go to The Studio at the Montage where auctioning off the food would never occur to the highly polished wait staff. read more

But luckily I was able to spot our group without their help. If it it wasn't for the awesome service of our waiter and the delicious food I would have easily given this place a 3 star rating or less. The order: Shaved Asparagus Flatbread: was pretty good a little spicy for my tastes. Wild Salmon Carpaccio: nice pieces of salmon with a nice topping of pineapple salsa, very refreshing. Duck Drums: nice big drumsticks that packed a lot of flavor. These were really tasty and really enjoyed it, but I felt it was a bit spicy. French Onion Soup: this was a very delicious soup. I can easily say this was one of the better soups I have had. BBQ baby back ribs: nice full rack of ribs that literally falls right of the bone that comes with a side of fries that were heavenly. Very good and tasty but I think I am used to having smoked ribs. Fettuccine Bolognese: this was pretty good tasted like the pasta could have been homemade. Whole Branzino: another excellent dish, the whole branzino is literally brought to you minus the bones which was a huge plus. Pros: Our server Sal was probably one of the best servers I have ever had. He along with his assistant were constantly replenishing our glasses with wine, switching out our silverware, and folding our napkins when we left for the restroom. I really liked the ambience. It very relaxing with great views of the golf course. I felt that everything I tried was top notch and full of flavor. Very nice menu, with a lot of variety. Cons: As I mentioned earlier we were completely ignored by the 2 host/hostess which I felt was unacceptable. It really made me feel awkward because I didn't know if they were just pretentious d bags or were so overwhelmed that they couldn't help us. But it was a Sunday night and there were hardly any people in the restaurant. Overall: I would highly recommend coming here. This is an amazing place! From the minute you walk inside you are captured by its warmth and beauty. The fireplace is my favorite spot, but it does compete well with the surrounding views! Really a great location. The menu changes in seasons, but there is always something on it for everyone! Their brunch is to die for! They've done a lot of great work upgrading and remodeling the whole place so it's very modern, clean and comfortable. The outside patio is the real star most times with some newly added fire pits increasing the seating greatly while adding a great place to hang out with your friends. Most nights they'll have some live music on the patio which is really nice for the area. The food was a little all over the place with some in my group liking their dishes while others not really thinking much of them. Cocktail and wine program is strong though, and it's hard to have a bad time at an incredible destination like this. read more

Had dinner on a Saturday night. It was busy with a least on large group. Tables/parties were well-spaced and wait staff was fantastic. I had onion soup, wedge salad and ribeye. My wife has squash filled pasta and the most amazing brussel sprout dish. Desert was off the charts. My wife had tried this restaurant for lunch and liked it so I made a reservation (using Open Table) for dinner to take her for her birthday. Upon arrival, we were shown a table in the (very noisy) bar. To their credit, we asked to be seated in the main dining area which they were able to do within a few minutes. Still loud but much better. The wait staff were very prompt and attentive and received a good recommendation on wine. We inquired as to the mussels for an entree and our waitress mentioned the kitchen was running low so she would check on their availability. She also mentioned it might be a dish we could split. We both wanted a full order so she went to check. She returned an notified us they had two orders left so we both confirmed our order. The food came out very quickly and to our surprise, we both had a dish with about 8 mussels each. Now mussels aren't very large to begin with so this was more like an appetizer portion. Considering the price (about $30 per plate) it was a terrible value. (We somewhat suspect the kitchen had 1 order left and split it for us, but charged us for two) We paid our bill and we're heading out but saw the manager in the reception area so we quizzed him as to portions. He seemed surprised as well. We also mentioned the lack of any acknowledge of my wife's birthday. He reviewed the reservation and told us there was no record of birthday occasion. We had a nice conversation and the manager offered us his card to contact him before we came back and he'd "make sure we were taken care of". There's no cell service at the location so I had to wait until getting home to review the Open Table reservation to prove to my wife I did mention her birthday. I then went to text the image of the reservation to the manager and .....the phone number he gave us was not in service! Bottom line for us is that this spot is probably better for lunch or breakfast than dinner. So many more locations nearby with as good or better ambiance and value. No issue with the service though. They were very good which is why I gave them a 2* and not a 1*. Don't come hungry or you'll be disappointed. read more

The hole experience was mediocre at best the food and service is sub par considering the price. Went for a friends birthday. After having reservations for a month and following their rules to a t, they seated half of us then seated the other half 15 mins later at different tables by the time we got our entrees the other half of our party had already finished eating. The appetizers were decent not for the price but tasted alright the entrees were not even close to worth it. Definitely not coming back. This place, their ambiance was amazing! It was a clear beautiful sunny brunch in this valley surrounded by nature! I loved the outdoor seating, also the outdoor more lounge area next to the restaurant was stunning! We heard live music from an amazing musician and singer, seriously he had such an amazing voice and ear for music his covers sounded better than the originals! The food was good, I got pancakes and I enjoyed it (although it is hard to mess up pancakes) other egg dishes were okay but lacking spice/flavor and the avocado toast was basic. My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner. We were looking to go to a place we had never been and Harvest fit the bill. The atmosphere just has a laid back cool vibe! My husband was worried that he was under dressed but we quickly realized that it had a resort feel and what he was wearing was all good! We started with soup for me-French onion and salad for him- Caesar (which anchovies on top- which he loved). He then got the special, which was sea bass and I got the bolognese. We also got asparagus and Brussel sprouts to share. We ended up with so much food but it was all so delicious! We took some of it home! The wait service was so attentive. Our waitress even brought us a special spice cake as a treat for our anniversary...definitely get it if you eat here. It's so good! We will definitely be back and will be bringing friends.
