It's been a few years since I wrote my review and after going in today decided it was time to update. I've been going to Harvey's for about 14 years. They left Redmond a few years ago to Kirkland. Even though they were within walking distance to my house I followed them. In the beginning I would call around for price quotes. I quickly realized they are not only the best in pricing, but do things right the first time, really know cars, and want to be sure their clients are safe and satisfied with their service. Good thing - they were open on a Saturday and had immediate availability for work on my Volvo. Very responsive, followed through by regular phone calls a day got it done in time (same day). One of my car tires went low on its air pressure very quickly despite filling it to the recommended pressure psi. I suspected a tire puncture. I went to a different service center on the day before coming here but they asked me to leave the car with them for the day. I didn't take them up on that and came to Harvey's. Only 2 or 3 people were working on Saturday yet they took my car and fixed the puncture immediately. It was all done within 20 mins or so. They have a waiting room with a couch where I could just chill until they were done fixing my tire. My only displeasure is they could have told me about the extra charge that I would incur by paying with my card ahead of time which I could have avoided by paying them with cash. I brought my GFs 04 S2000 in to fix a clearcoat issue from a previous bad job, body/paint work on the rear bumper and to replace my exhaust tip that got damaged. I called before showing up, as many autobody shops may not be able to give day of estimates. Kevin said to swing by and he'd take a look. He was able to give and commit to an estimate on the spot that was more than fair price. But here's why they get a 5 star rating... (Keep in mind I know nothing about body work) I inquired about touching up the hood rock chips. Rather than quote it and take my money, Kevin took the time to explain that unless I do the other fender the paint could potentially not match. This was the point that I was pretty sure I'd come to the right place. Other employees loved the car, and talked to me about it while I was there. Picked it up today and it looks brand new. I've been bringing my vehicle to Harvey's for several years now; I started bringing it there regularly when I found that their prices overall are much lower than quotes I've gotten from other shops providing comparable services. In the Seattle Snowpocalypse this past winter (Feb 2019) my windshield wipers started going wacko while I was driving. I called the nearest auto repair shop (Harvey's) and asked if they could help. They not only said yes, but they also helped me fix my windshield wipers. Within minutes, I was able to start driving again. They did not charge me anything. I work until 0300 so I wasn't able to bring my car in until a little later in the morning, but they still did their best and got my car back to me in time to go back to work the next day. I was over here about couple of years ago regarding an oil leak. They inspected the car and it was just ac air condensation. Some other mechanic would have charged me for their services but they were very reasonable. I think this is a very good way to build reputation with customers. First visit was on a Saturday, and I was told that he would call me on Monday when he got an estimate. No call on Monday. Then I called back. It took him some time to recall my case. I've been coming back to them for work on my aging car for a few jobs over years. Their operation doesn't entail frills or pampering amenities you may see at some other Eastside shops - your money is clearly going towards mechanics who earn their keep with service. I've bid out work a couple times, and they have fared best, where a few competitors generously pad the margins. Their labor rates are competitive, and they use quality parts at rates which are close to online prices I've checked myself. read more

Bunch of thieves!!!! We took our car in for regular service and a couple of days later we started to hear a weird noise. Took the car back in and they said there was a metal inside the motor and they would have to take it apart to fix it and that at that point it would be too expensive and it wouldn't guarantee that they could fix it. They then tried to by our car for almost nothing and said the best we could do is sell the car for scraps. We took our car somewhere else and the issue was fixed for $600. Turns out the timing belt was broken. After reading the other reviews here I wouldn't put it past them to have been the ones who broke our timing belt because we had that replaced less than a year ago These guys tried to take advantage of us as I'm sure they take advantage of many people, read others reviews here and you'll see! I have been bringing my jalopies to Harvey's for years. When they moved from Shoreline I was heartbroken. But traveling a few more miles to the eastside is well worth it - I always have regrets when I go to another mechanic. We purchased an inexpensive car for our teen and took it here for some repairs, they took quite a while on it. When we picked it up, they assured us that it was running smoothly and everything was fine. Maybe 3 days later, our son noticed the speedometer stopped working so we brought it back. Chris (mechanic) ended up replacing two parts, after he received one wrong part three times in a row. I paid about $450 on that visit, then 2 days later the speedometer is not working. Needless to say, they are missing something and we're too far in the hole to bring it back again. Super frustrating, expensive, and no call back from their shop. read more

They told me my Acura MDX's engine was done and that I should sell them my car (worth about 10-12k) for peanuts like $500 because they said it's basically only good for scraps.They said that my motor had metal inside of it. It was actually the timing belt and it was fixed for $600... and now my car is worth easily 10k instead of the $500 they offered me. I have been taking my car(s) to Don at Harvey's for over 6 years and even when I moved from Redmond to Seattle there was no question that it was worth the trip. You can always trust Don to give you a fair deal and tell you the truth. What really sealed the deal for me was when my coworker brought me in to pick up my car and asked Don for a quote on a 90,000 mile maintenance she was WAY overdue for. Instead of simple quoting her what the recommended services would cost he actually went through the list and asked what things had recently been done and what had been neglected. First time I went was just because it was the closest place to roll into. Hit a pothole near Marymoor and heard some HORRIBLE noise under my car. It was scary! Drove about 5 MPH till I got to Harveys. So heres the thing...Im a girl...I know nothing about cars...I had no idea what was wrong. They could have WRECKED me financially and I wouldnt have known better. But nope...Don was very reassuring and so helpful. They looked underneath...pulled my wrecked plastic cover off and told me I was ok to drive without it for awhile and theyd order me a new one for $40!!! And that wasnt the only time they were so good to me and so honest. Don is a fabulous communicator and they ALWAYS try to save you money! I've been coming here for the past 3 years. Each time they have been professional and honest about my car. Breaks, oil changes, tires, timing belts and helping me pop the dent out that I did by kissing the pole when backing out. Don is courteous, professional and never in foul mood even on a crazy hectic day. I love the fact that I can drop my car off and pick it up the same day and Don Wont start anything until he has my o.k even explaining that my bat mobile Toyota Camry is not going to die. I took my vehicle as it is making creaking noise on front side of the car. Mike ( I think so) and me went in for quick ride and he realized something wrong with front side breaks and he took the car back to shed for inspection and said breaks need to be replaced as they are about to die. Took an appointment for next day and fixed it. He was so easy to work and he is very good at explaining the problem and fix. I would recommend to go Harvey's for car repairs. After the fact I enquired with one other brand store they asked almost double price what Harvey's took for repair. read more

NOTE: for some reason this had initially posted in the Harvey's Auto Bellevue location. All my repairs are done at Harvey's Auto in Redmond, so I am reposting here. I wrote this in 2008 and still believe this is the best mechanic shop I've ever experienced. Harvey's Auto is my preferred service station. I've been taking my last three vehicles there for services ranging from oil changes to brake pads and shoes to various sensor repairs. When my best friend's windshield wipers ceased working, I convinced her to meet me there and the problem (a blown fuse) was fixed within minutes. If they are unable to fix it, they will direct you to someone who can. The fine folks at Harvey's Auto will provide you with a list of items that they feel you should have fixed, and will prioritize them for you if need be - but they will never pressure you into having any work done that isn't absolutely necessary. If you're local, they will even give you a ride back to your home or office. I've always gotten a great deal and great service from Harvey's Auto. Occasionally you will see their coupons in your mail; they make a great deal even better. Unless I move away, I will always take my cars here. read more

Had my car in for some semi-major work. While doing the initial diagnostics, Don identified some other things that would definitely cost me more down the road than doing them now. I wanted to get the brake rotors changed on my car but didn't want to go to the dealership because they charged a huge premium for a simple enough job. After reading reviews on yelp, Harvey's seemed like the place to go. Don is a great guy and he accommodated my requests and customizations. But I don't trust the guy who handled the job. I think his name was Kevin if I remember correctly. He was always very rude and never gave straight answers. Ultimately, I got the job done and was happy, but not for long. Two days later I noticed some damage behind the front bumper cover. When I looked underneath the car, the whole bumper cover was severely damaged from the lower inside and the engine protective covering (skid plate?) was completely missing. So I went back and talked to Kevin since Don was off that day. As usual the guy didn't give any straight answers and plainly denied that he did the damage. I went back another day to talk to Don and he also tried to convince me that I might have hit a speed-bump which could have caused this. But I didn't, it had been only two days and I remembered clearly where I took the car. I told him that I would have at least seen the skid plate coming out. I couldn't have missed that. He had nothing to say but maintained that it didn't happen in his shop. Searching on the web, seems like it might not be uncommon of a novice mechanic to take those plates off and deem them unnecessary. The body shop gave a huge estimate to fix it mainly because the bumper cover needs to be replaced due to irreparable damages. I guess I should have taken the dealership route in the first place and avoided going to Harvey's altogether. read more

New to town and found these guys with a great 5 star rating - what could go wrong? Dropped my car off and spend 2 days calling back asking for an estimate because they never called me back. These guys couldn't change two tires in 4 days and wanted to charge 600 to replace two brake rotors and pads on a sentra. I got so frustrated that I paid the diagnostic fees and took my business somewhere else. Did not get the same great service other customers describe. read more

I had my car in for suspension work. I drove away after the work was completed and had severe thunking coming from the passenger side. I came back 10 minutes later, pointed out that the connection to the strut didn't look proper to the mechanic who had done the work. He then told me I was wrong and that the driver side was the side that was incorrect. I was then told they were too busy to look at it and would have to reschedule for next week. I'd rather not drive it if it'd cause more damage or be unsafe, but was told I couldn't leave it there until they get a chance to get it on the lift. Knowing my wife would kill me if she couldn't use the car for a week, I carefully drove home, stopping by shucks to borrow a spring compressor. After jacking it up, it was clear what the problem was - they forgot a critical washer on the passenger side strut assembly, effectively putting the entire force of the strut piston on a little nut that was tearing apart the new rubber bushings that they just replaced. I'm not a mechanic, but it was easy to see the problem. I ended up being out time, money, and effort. When I called back to cancel the appointment, Don didn't offer to reimburse the now damaged parts or labor, but did offer to comp me a future oil change. I'm not going to bother going back. On the plus side, if the work was done properly, they weren't overpriced, and did a good job of managing communications about when it'd be done. read more

Most auto shops price gouge, do poor work, and add extra parts. Chris, who now runs Harvey's, is the opposite of the stereotypical auto shop swindler. He was extremely fair about rectifying past poorly done work, omniscient of the ins and outs of my 04 Trail blazer, and a straight shooter.
