Usually satisfied and would normally put 4 stars - this last experience will likely not have me returning. Had a few warning codes that needed to be solved, and the most pressing issue was resolved - but it just had to include things that were not necessary to shoot the price up. The worst part is, the code that was left went unresolved and the gas cap was leaking fuel. Big problem, and I would've driven 13 hours straight with such an issue. Multi-thousand unnecessary bill and legality concern from one trip? I'll pass next time. read more

I brought my car into Redmond Werkshop which was an AMAZING experience to say the least. After sadly being told by another local mechanic, "your car is too old and it's impossible to find parts for it, please take it somewhere else." This same mechanic also tried to convince me the car wasn't worth fixing and that I shouldn't try. For context I have a 1/500 limited edition 2002 ALMS Audi TT MK1. It had been hit in the front fender and needed some love for sure. This car is gorgeous and I really didn't think it deserved to get parted out given how rare, beautiful, and pristine it was. I brought the car to the Redmond Werkshop and was greeted by none other than Cub Nelson, my now favorite mechanic of all time which is saying a lot to be honest and I've been having cars fixed regularly for two decades haha!! Cub genuinely appreciated that I was trying desperately to save this rare and beautiful car which I am obviously irrationally and emotionally attached to . He was so awesome to talk to and was excited to see this thing back on the road. Without hesitation he agreed to fix it up ASAP! Cub wasn't kidding, the car was only at his shop for three days and he had put everything back together mechanically and sent me on my way to the body shop to get the panels repainted. Cub and his shop are incredible, if you are looking for a mechanic who has true passion for his craft and will take care of your car better than you can imagine please take it to Redmond Werkshop! I changed the water pump in my VW Jetta and needed a T10020 Toothed Belt Tensioner that I couldn't find at any auto parts store. I wanted to immediately ship the tool to me, which would have taken over a week. As a caregiver, I needed the timing belt back on the car (it was never taken off the vehicle). I called to ask what they would charge to put the timing belt and bolt the alternator back in place. They declined to do the work, which to me is ridiculous. The woman went on about previous customers, blah, blah blah. Aside from the water leak, the car was running fine, so putting a new timing belt on it should be a big deal. It would have been okay if I was willing to spend 1,000 dollars and have them put the water pump on. I've replaced the water pump myself before. I could not find the T10020-toothed belt tensioner I knew I had from the last time I replaced the water pump. I couldn't find that tool anywhere at any auto parts store or vendor. All I wanted was the belt to be put on. I would've bought a new belt if that's what it took for them to do it. Instead, it seems my money isn't green enough for the Redmond Werkshop. I'm not asking them to warranty anything. All I was asking them to do was install a timing belt. It must be nice to be that picky when making money for your business. Now, I would never take my VW Jetta to them. They could be the only repair shop left, but I'd rather sell my car before I let them work on it. Instead of meeting me halfway and saying we won't warranty the water pump, we will put a new timing belt on it for you. It's crazy when a repair shop won't help. read more

I took my car here in March for a tune up and to fix my power steering. They charged me $1,300 and my cars been breaking down ever since. It's now not drivable and without even seeing my car, this "werkshop" already told me none of my cars problems are under any warranty with them. It's pretty obvious that I was ripped off from the jump because of the fact I'm a woman. It at least explains the disrespectful interactions I've had with the receptionist. I bought a car online (not the smartest idea). The site I bought it from gives a 7 days grace period in which you can return the car for any reason. I decided to have it inspected. I arranged a time with Redmond Werkshop and brought it in. They were busy but they were gracious enough to fit me into their schedule after I explained I only had 7-days. During the inspection "Cub" suggested I change the oil while they were at it, and it would give them a chance to look at the oil as well. I agreed. Luckily they did. They found metal in the oil. It was there experience that saved me. It could have lead to some expensive repairs later. In addition "Cub" walked be though their inspection line by line include any system error codes. Been here twice. Once to replace a bent rim, after I had already diagnosed the problem. They got the part in quickly, did the repair the same day, and got my car back to me without gouging me on price. The second time was to repair a damaged wheel bearing (Related to the first repair). My car got broken in and needed some fixing. I took it to redmond werkshop to get the most urgent work done. I then put my insurance in touch with redmond werkshop to get a complete assessment of the damages and get the rest of the work completed. I don't know what they told my insurance, but based on the information they provided, my car got totaled. When I called to ask they told my insurance, they told me that they said they provided a repair cost of a quarter that amounted to a quarter of the totaled value. When I asked them to send me an email, they hang up on the phone and then didn't pick any of my calls. I am un-employed, I had to save on my food and my heat to pay them for some of the repairs, and I now have no car and can't afford to buy a new one. I picked this place because it had great ratings on yelp for their work. I'm afraid I missed some crucial aspect of the service they offer. read more

Originally we brought our 1997 A4 here for a look over and valve stem seals as it was smoking after idling a long time. I got a quote over the phone after talking with Cub and decided to bring the car in. I expressed how I wanted to have the car looked over as I didn't want to be out the money doing valve stem seals if there were any other major issues. Got the car back after paying the bill and the car drove horribly. No boost and still smoked. Took the car back and this time I was told the turbo must be done and that Redmond Werkshop would help me out on the price if I decided I ever wanted it to be done. Took the car over to Achtuning to have them take a look. They called back and said the timing was not set correctly from when the cams were taken off to do the valve stem seals. They called Redmond Autowerks and Cub said they would take the car back and take a look. Redmond Autowerks wasn't able to find any issues and gave the car back to Achtuning. Achtuning found that Redmond Werkshop had installed the cam gear backwards and it had sheared the keyway off due to this mistake. Achtuning replaced the gear and re-timed the engine and everything is running great again, minus the fact it still smokes. Got a refund for the cost of Achtuning fixing their mistake but I don't have any confidence in the work that was "performed" on the car. When getting the refund I asked how I could trust the other work was done correctly when the easiest part of the work was done wrong. I got a response of "I don't know". If this wasn't enough of a turn off, looking back on the invoice they even charge you to fill your washer fluid and do other small charges to up the bill ("replace bolts/nuts", charge for hose clamps that they replaced (even though the hose clamps were new as I had just replaced them) without hesitation. read more

I took my Forester to Redmond Werkshop for its first oil change since they advertise themselves as master Subaru mechanics. It cost $59.82, which is a lot higher than I'm used to paying for an oil change, but I had decided that I wanted to take really good care of this car, so I went with it. When I picked up the car, I asked what type of oil they used, and they said a blend of synthetic and conventional, and I believe it was 10W30 (I can't be 100% sure here, the invoice doesn't show it). I looked in my manual and found that the Forester requires fully synthetic 5W20 oil. I showed it to the front desk guy, and he actually said "wow", he'd never heard of a car requiring 5W20. This is a shop with a big sign out front advertising themselves as master Subaru mechanics, and they don't even know what type of oil the car requires. Anyway, it's not a terrible experience, but I want to service my car by the book, and was disappointed that they didn't even know my car's requirements. I feel like I got a Jiffy-Lube level of service for double the price. read more

This is my first yelp review ever, but I'm writing it because I chose this shop initially based on others' reviews and I think it's important to warn people when appropriate. I have taken my VW van to this shop many times over the past three years. in the beginning it was for straightforward repair work that didn't cost much. But then I had a problem that was elusive and costly (over $3500 for a blown piston...supposedly), and that's when things went downhill. After paying that bill, the problem persisted. I took it back repeatedly, and each time was told that it was something else - which of course I was charged for. The costs started to really add up, but the problem was never completely fixed. More annoying was that I had to always drop my car off for days at a time rather than wait to have it diagnosed, and I live a considerable ways away. Each time I was told it was something new, and each time I was told that the problem was fixed, when in fact it never was. I have since gone to other shops and they laughed at what I was told by Cub at Redmond Werkshop. In fact, they are the ones who have encouraged me to write this review because shady mechanics, especially specialists who are rip off artists, make the entire trade seem shady, especially German car specialists. My advice is to avoid this shop and find another one before you get in way too deep like I did. read more

I've been burned by shoddy mechanics before so I've tried to do my own work on my 2004 Audi A4 as much as possible. When I recently didn't have the time to fix my cars massive oil leak and wheel bearing issues I looked around and after reading the reviews decided to give Cub and the Redmond Werkshop a chance. They were able to fix my vehicles problems ASAP and even went above and beyond to check all the other systems and clean out the oily mess in my engine bay without charge. You pay a bit more to have a shop go over your vehicle vs doing the work yourself but if you need a good and honest mechanic I can't recommend them enough! read more

Just picked up my Jetta from the guys at the Werkshop. We moved up from Portland last year and I've been looking for a good place to take the old VW now that she has 100K miles on her. They did a tune up earlier in the year and they were incredibly reasonable price wise and very friendly. Yesterday I noticed my break lights were out - and since I had an electrical problem with the door and the trunk release a few years ago, and the dealer in Portland charged me an arm and half a leg, I was worried about the damage to my checking account. But since I had a good experience last time, I called the Werkshop and they asked me to drop it off in the morning. Great customer service at the front desk during drop off. They called later in the day to tell me they fixed the issue - light bulb grease build up put in there by my dealer repair-shop in Portland! They cleaned all the sockets and replaced some bulbs - the whole shebang was less than $100 bucks! Very positive experience. Will be doing all my service here. read more

Afterwards, they said everything looked good so they just reset the engine light (they didn't do anything about it) and they charged me $30 for just resetting the light. 2 days later, the engine light came right back on. read more

I am so glad that a friend referred us to the Werkshop a few years back. We were getting a little sick of paying dealership prices for all our maintenance and repairsm which are pricey on these foreign cars! The staff here is knowledgeable, honest and fair. They are not ones to push upgrades and services that are not needed. On several occasions I have been told that a certain service could be pushed back a little or that a part could be found cheaper elsewhere or that they could offer me a deal since we've had so much work done with them. Redmond Werkshop is great! The people were very helpful, they listened to me and explained everything they did. For a tune-up it was at least $200 less than what Chaplins quoted me, car runs fantastic, they listed out maintenance items we should continue to watch but were not issues yet. Also, my check engine light was on for a catalytic converter, since it should still have been under warranty they sent me to Chaplins for warranty work since catalytic converter work can get pricey. The people did remember to call me back when service was done, it was fast, and really appreciate their work. read more

I made the mistake of taking my Audi to this grease monkey for a relatively more cost-effective fix of a radiator issue. They fixed the radiator alight but the headlight was out of alignment (which the dealer was happy to fix for $$$), and these guys did a piss poor job of putting the front bumper back. Lesson learned - you get what you pay for, and then sometimes you pay more later. AVOID. read more

Do not take your Subaru here. Ever. Sent in my 2002 subaru to these guys for a rod knock. $4500 later I had a fresh new short block, timing belt, water pump and head gaskets. 25,000 miles later the timing belt jumped and frayed. They said they had no idea what happened, so I asked them to take a look at the pulleys and tensioners while they replaced the belt. They said there's nothing wrong with either and the jumped didn't cause any valve damage. About 4,000 miles later I started noticing a rattling sound when I started my car that seemed very unnatural. When I took my car back this time they said the timing belt moved again, oh and that it might just be one of the pulleys and that the rattle was just my exhaust.. The answer I got was: "We don't really know what it all could be, but we can tear it down and take a look". Which would be another very expensive guess. I took my car to another subaru specialist where I got some real information. They said the head gaskets were already failing, and that the rattle was more likely than not valve damage. They recommended that the cost of repair is unnecessary and near what the car is actually worth. So all in all I ended up paying for a $4500 rebuild that lasted only 27,000 miles. By far the worst service, product gurantee, and customer service I have ever experienced with any mechanics I have ever dealt with. I'd recommend taking your car to somewhere that knows what they're doing, and will be honest about what actually needs to be done. Either Smart Service or AWD Auto. read more

In May, I brought my 2006 Subaru to this shop for a timing belt and drive belts. We moved the car to San Francisco for my daughter and she began having issues with the drive belts again. The shop down there indicated that the belts needed to be changed again because the belts used were of high quality, but known (to the shop in SF) to not fit the Subaru. They used Subaru belts. I called Redmond Werkshop and informed them of the issue and they are paying for the new repair. That is customer service. Thank you. read more

My Daughter moved to Redmond last September from Ellensburg. She purchased a car and has a number of issues with it. She has taken it to the dealer numerous times and has spent well over $1000 since this past January. Just recently she has been experiencing more problems, she returned to the dealer and they weren't sure what the problem was but quoted her approx. another $1000. She lives fairly close to Redmond Werkshop and thought she'd give them a try.....WOW...as a father of a young female on her own, I am VERY impressed with this company. They have given my wife and I, piece of mind. They fixed her car for under $200 dollars and gave us a list of things that should be taken care of in the future.
