My Dear Hubby has a certified sweet tooth. After having ice cream nearby at Sweet Scoops, our companions pointed out Harvey's Gourmet Donut Bar. It's located in a small courtyard off the main part of the Sonoma plaza. Once you walk in the door, the aroma of freshly cooking mini donuts makes your mouth water, even if you just had ice cream. DH succumbed to the temptation and ordered a small batch. They serve them in a paper cone, and add toppings of your choice. I sampled one and it was really good because of the freshness, and the additional flavors added on top. A fork and napkins are definitely needed. Our toddler granddaughter was excited to try the donuts, and had the fruity jam-smeared face to prove that she liked them very much! Deducting a star because the ordering process seemed confusing, or maybe I was just overwhelmed by the smell of the dough cooking. Took a drive to Sonoma because I have been really wanted to try these donuts. Unfortunately I was left a little disappointed. Saturday afternoon and I was shocked they didn't have a line being that they are on the Sonoma plaza. Small little place but clean and friendly staff. Lots of toppings to choose from but the donuts were still doughy. Not sure if they are always like this they really needed to be cooked more. We ordered 4 different dozens and we all had the same complaint. Welcome to Harvey's Gourmet Donut Bar at the El Paseo Courtshops in beautiful downtown Sonoma! The long-awaited, second location of Harvey's Donuts opened this week in Sonoma. The former site of Hare & Hatter Sausage Emporium, the unique, postage stamp-sized space is perfect for a boutique donut shop. A crew of family members - including Harvey himself - and friendly teenagers greeted me upon arrival. The menu comprises Harvey's famous mini donuts (about the size of a half dollar) and a wide variety of toppings in which guests can mix and match. Donuts are sold hot by the dozen. The menu includes "classics" such as powdered sugar or cinnamon & sugar ($6); glazes including chocolate and caramel ($7-$8); and toppings like raspberry jam, sprinkles and crushed Oreos ($1-$2 additional). Each day features specials ($9 each) - today included maple bacon and apple pie (perfect for 4th of July). They also offer a wide variety of hot and iced coffee drinks and old school sodas, including Dr. Brown's (love that cream soda!), Dad's Root Beer, and more. I opted for the chocolate glazed donuts with rainbow sprinkles, a favorite of the staff, and an iced latte to fuel me through an evening of reporting. After placing my order, I went outside and they said they'd call my name. Well, since they weren't too busy (it was 5 PM), they kindly brought out my donuts and latte. I was told, next time, to try the caramel glaze with Oreo's ( duly noted). Guests can enjoy their donuts at a handful of tables placed around the fountain. The donuts are served in portable paper cones, so you can also walk and nibble, or head to the Plaza park. Harvey eagerly greeted guests, explaining his concept as they came to the door. "Some people wanted me to open a coffee bar, well, I'm a donut guy, so it's a donut bar with coffee!" he told me. ...and I wasn't complaining. My donuts arrived warm with a perfect dose of chocolate and sprinkles - not drenched to the point of messy. Just enough where you can get the crunch of the sprinkles, the sweetness of the chocolate, and the warm cake donuts. My iced latte was very good! I've since been back for more - now served with a fresh, hot donut on top! The donuts and coffee went down smoothly and I was delighted by the joy the donuts were bringing the guests. Locals coming in for a looksie and taste, tourists fresh off wine tasting craving a different sugar fix. Harvey's is a much welcome addition to the Plaza. It's great to have another family friendly, well priced option downtown. Let alone a coffee offering until 8 PM! It's even better that it is a locally-owned business that employs both members of the Cohen family and local teens. read more

TLDR: Friendly owner (guy with tophat) and friendly wife. Good but soft donuts. Our first experience with mini-donuts was in Reno. We really loved them! We just like the thought of bite-sized donuts... makes them seem... healthier? So when we were walking around the square at night, we saw this wonderful bakery, and said to ourselves, "Selves! We must sample this henceforth on the morrow!" So we came back the next day (Thurs) but alas, we came by too late, and it was closed again! So again, we promised ourselves, "Selves! By troth, on the morrow we must hie away from this burgh to make our way back to our domicile! We MUST attend this parlor ere we depart!" So bright and early in the morning, after we got our coffee from the best coffee place in town, we came back and LO AND BEHOLD, the doors were open! A golden light shone through the archways, drawing us in, like moths to a flame. I remarked to the nice lady in the front that we have tried to visit this place 2x already! The top-hat wearing man was quick to respond wittily, saying they would open more often if only they had more employees! Would I like to apply for the job? I said no, but I'd be happy to start a new employee hiring fund by purchasing some delicious donuts! So apparently, with the smallest batch of 12 donuts, I could pick 2 flavors. My wife picked the chocolate + chai, while I wanted the PBJ. So they make all the donuts-to-order, which means we had to wait about 15 min for our donuts to be ready. We sat and watched outside as the owner entertained/interacted with all the customers who entered. Pretty soon our donuts were ready. Initially we were going to just take it to-go but the donuts were small and we were hungry. I think we finished all 12 just sitting there in front of the bakery. So the donuts are softer than we expected. We really like crunchy donuts. And I wished they separated out the flavors. Instead, whatever donuts are on the bottom, will soon be drenched by whatever sauce is supposed to go on the top of the donuts. So in our case, the pbj donuts were on the bottom and the choco-chai were on top. When they drizzled the choco sauce on top, it filtered all the way to the bottom and pooled. So, all the flavors essentially became muddled. The donuts itself weren't bad though. We treated them more like little mini-cakes, still delicious! After all, we finished the entire thing in about 5 minutes! So the donuts would be 5 stars, but the hospitality of the owner adds a wonderful star garnish! Located in downtown Sonoma within a little alley way but super cute and by a fountain. It's a little store easy for take out, coffee, and mini donuts. You can smell it right out front and can customize your own donuts. I asked what was the most popular flavors for the mini donuts and they were the lemon raspberry, cinnamon sugar, and salted caramel. This is a very cute little donut shop. There are no places to sit inside, but there is space outside to hangout. There is a display outside that shows a few kind of the donuts which is so enticing. There was not a long wait and when you step inside there is a much longer menu on the wall, which gave me no time to contemplate on what I wanted. Eventually we got the raspberry sauce donuts. My toddler is into sprinkles and but I don't like sprinkles so we ended up getting her a bigger one donut. It was a gluten free donut and was $4. The dozen mini donuts were $8 and seemed like a much better deal and was so fun to eat. After you order, you can see the little mini donuts being friend behind the clear plexiglass. It was so fun for my toddler to watch. We also ordered a rose latte and a lavender latte. The donuts were so good!!! They were not like cake donuts or raised donuts, but they were light and flavorful. The lattes were bitter, which went well with the donuts. We forgot that lattes had coffee (not coffee drinkers), and I just thought they were flavored milks (too use to boba places), so two cups of lattes was too much coffee for us. Visiting Sonoma and came across this fun place. The smell radiates through the street so we just had to visit. The donuts are really well priced! Around $6-$7 for 12 mini donuts and around $1 for each topping. I ordered the chocolate glaze with Oreos and sprinkles and we also have the raspberry glaze with powdered sugar. They were very tasty and filling, great for after dinner. I wish the glaze were a little stronger / there was more sauce to help with the flavor but all in all a very good experience. I will never return and it has nothing to do with the food which smelled and looked wonderful. I was treated so rudely by an older man with longer salt & pepper hair who wore a top hat. If he is the owner, he won't stay open long. I was asking a female employee about the different serving sizes when he insisted I speak to him. We didn't want such a large serving and asked if we could purchases a few singles. He said, "No," so I pointed out a menu board with a half dozen listed. Again he said we could not buy that quantity. I gathered he was just being a pushy salesperson and told my daughter, "Of course you can get a half dozen." He then started making rude/bizarre comments such as, "I bet when you go to a restaurant you are the one complaining and sending food back to the kitchen." He also asked, "Where are you guys from?" When I answered, he said, "I didn't ask because I wanted to go there, I wanted to know where to avoid so I don't run into you." I walked out and spent my money at the Chocolate Cow a few shops over. The best donuts on the planet! Tonight I had a craving for something sweet and went to Harvey's Donuts on Riverside Drive (just south of Verano), open at this location only on Friday evenings, 5-9pm. Their donuts are more like some sort of delicious, delicate European pastry than what we (or at least I) know as donuts. They have innumerable choices for glazes and the donuts are served warm. A special bonus is that the place has a nice, upbeat "vibe" -- people laughing and having fun -- kind of like a stand at a country fair. read more

Editing this review bc it was removed. We walked in and waited at the register but instead of being acknowledged we stood waiting for a few minutes while a woman who appeared to be in charge argued with an employee about taking time off. Awkward but we waited patiently and eventually a couple minutes later they came to take our order. We ordered the powdered mini donuts and 2 small iced coffees. We paid and I tipped them. The donuts came out first and we each ate one while waiting for the coffees. They were undercooked sadly and gummy in the center, resulting in a gross texture but also had that raw flour taste. We contemplated asking them to remake them but decided against it because we just didn't really care, so didn't say anything. Then the coffees came out. The ice had 95% melted and when I sipped it it wasn't very cold... not good but I figured a easy solution. So I walked back in and very politely asked if I could please get cups of ice since the ice already melted. For some reason she became visibly annoyed and kinda aggressively scooped ice and slammed it in front of me. Then I had the nerve to ask for a second one for the other coffee. She yelled at me that I'd have to leave and come back and pay a dollar for ice if I wanted more. I was kinda shocked and was like well we ordered two iced coffees but neither one has ice in it. (Keep in mind I'm still being kind and polite). Seems very reasonable to expect ice in an iced coffee. She begrudgingly got me another cup of ice but dramatically slammed another cup down. At this point my shock became speechlessness so I walked away without saying thank you even though I normally have impeccable manners. So she yells "your welcome!" at me while glaring at me. My family and I are actually laughing so hard right now at the whole bizarre interaction. To spend 20 something bucks, PLUS WE TIPPED HER, and then get treated like absolute crap over ICE, is wild.
