This spot has been a bit of a savior as I've been up here often visiting a family member in a nearby rehab. While tea seems to be their specialty, their coffee--both hot and cold brew--is excellent. They have some very good pastries as well, and a solid croissant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While I've mostly been taking things to go, they have a decent interior--it is kind of crammed into the lobby of an office building, but they do their best with what is a standard suburban Main Street setting, and also have ample outdoor seating--again, you are near Main, but set off enough to not be super loud.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They serve wine as well and stay open relatively late--seems like a great place to hang with a drink and nosh. I would say the larger bites are less successful--sandwiches are incredibly chintzy, mostly bread or roll, with very little meat inside, at least for the chicken salad. I have come here twice and both times the place was great. I have ordered the iced chai tumeric latte and another hot latte which I can't remember. Both drinks were good and I also have tasted their pastries which are good. They are also very friendly and helpful. Nostalgia; came in here on my first day working a real job after college. It's very conveniently located, right in the heart of downtown White Plains. There is a decent amount of seating, and apparently a lot of tea/coffee options... save for the decaf coffee I tried to order! No decaf coffee? Why not? Place was great my hot black tea was great even though I waited 20 minutes for it ! All was ok till the two girls working there started arguing in front of everyone me included about the one girl being nice and opening sugar packs for my tea , with other girl insisting that I do it myself at another counter which I had no problem doing if they just said so in the beginning ! Finally I said I would just take it without the sugar and then waited another ten minutes to get that in which I almost just told him to keep the money I would leave without it. I have visited this shop a handful of times. The staff is always incredibly friendly and accommodating. I was impressed with their knowledge of their products. I am not a coffee drinker. I usually have a chai tea latte or a matcha latte. The lattes I received were absolutely delicious and I could tell that they take pride in their craft. The shop itself has a cozy atmosphere and I enjoyed sitting and sipping my coffee in their comfortable seating. It's also worth noting that they use eco-friendly cups and utensils, which is a great bonus. I would recommend checking your food before you leave, the last time I went I ordered a chocolate croissant, when I got home I realized I received a regular croissant instead. If you are looking for a wonderful cafe for great coffee, tea, fabulous desserts as well as GREAT WINE, you have to visit Hastings Tea & Coffee cafe on Main Street in White Plains. I went in to treat myself to an almond latte and I walked out with my coffee and two exceptional bottles of wine. I was planning on going to a local liquor store since we were planning on visiting friends later that day, however I was surprised to see bottles of what looked like really exceptional wines stacked on shelves. They also have a Wine of the Month Club that after tasting their selected wines, I'm seriously considering joining. However, what impressed me the most about Hastings Coffee & Tea is their very dedicated and helpful baristas and wine connoisseurs. I was introduced to Jason who began explaining the kinds of wines in their store and then he introduced me to Bill who was very knowledgeable about the white Spanish wines. Bill recommended Grand Arte Alvarinho from Portugal and a delicious red wine. My friends thought I must have been secretly taking courses in fine wines, because they were blown away by the bottles we brought them ! I loved this small quiet tea and coffee shop. I came here one early morning not really sure what I wanted. The ladies behind the counter were very friendly and patient with me as I decided what I wanted to order. I grabbed a whole leaf White Peony Tea that is very mild and fruit in taste, alfajor, and a butterfly squeeze tea. The Alfajor was chocolatey, the best one I've ever had. The bite the shortbread had to it was perfect. The tea I wish was less mild and more aggressive in flavor (I prefer my tea with honey and lemon and it was more so naturally flavor and light on sweetness but balanced nonetheless). I'd been looking for a tea spot and found this. I passed this place many times before I even realized that it was right in downtown White Plains. I drove and walked by it hundreds of times. I've met friends here, stayed and hung out here and gotten orders to go. I've tried their coffee, hot chocolate, iced chai and tea. All of the beverages I've tried were tasty and delightful. I, also, love their brownies. And scones. The brownies are extremely fresh and chocolately. Basically the perfect brownie. There are several tables and spots to sit inside. What looks so tiny and hidden on the outside expands into a bigger sized cafe with lots of seating options and an extensive and unique menu! For a city that many millennials are flocking to, I'm kind of surprised White Plains only has one independent coffeehouse. It's true though - besides a couple of Starbucks and Dunkin's, this is the lone independent as far as I've seen. Anyway, a friend and I finished dinner early and were looking for some coffee. Having passed here multiple times, I suggested we try here. Located on Main Street in pretty much the nucleus of White Plains, Hastings Tea and Coffee sits on the first floor of a small office building. It isn't necessarily the warmest or funkiest coffee shop I've been to but they do a good job with what they have. Upon entry you're immediately greeted by the counter with a mixture of tables and chairs to the left and back. The decor is a little all over the place but that's typical of these types of places. I decided to be basic and order a chai tea latte - it came in three sizes so I chose a medium with skim milk. It was good, very smooth, not too sweet, and nice flavor. My friend had one of their blueberry teas which she said was very good - I got a whiff of it and it smelled amazing. The staff was friendly enough, we got there at 7:30 and even though they were closing at 8 we didn't feel rushed at all. It's been a few years since I lived in NY, but an iced dirty chai with lavender from Hastings remains one of the best drinks I've had to date. Grabbing an iced matcha then taking the train to explore towns along the Metronorth, getting coffee with my parents on one of their last visits before I moved to CA, stopping for a drink while walking my dog around the neighborhood...I have lots of fond memories here. Hastings Tea has been in the downtown White Plains area for the last 2 years, and I've driven here a zillion and one times and honestly, never noticed. I've continued my quest to trying different Tea Rooms and found this one close to home. Hastings seems comfortable with really cute sofa- chairs and tables around. Lighting is soft even in the early evening I was there. Service was great. Honestly, no complaints. Seriously. My tea didn't blow me away. But I'm going for a 4 right here, because Hastings Is actually the ONLY Tea house/Café in the White Plains area. It's a decent tea shop and a nice alternative if you don't want to grab coffee from Starbucks down the block. Your server turned my husband and me away because he couldn't handle the amount of people he's preparing drinks for and he said he was alone. We saw around 3 or 4 people inside. His attitude is bad for your business. Instead of turning us away and basically shoo-ing us off, he could have been more courteous and asked if we can be patient. But he literally waved us off. Lol. We are very understanding of people under pressure. It happens but damn... waving customers away? Hilarious. We were very thirsty and hungry and would have spent $30 or more in your shop. The coffee is ok, not great. They insist on putting in milk/cream for you, which I never understand. But the truly galling thing is that they refused to give me change for a dollar to feed the meter (yes, I still feed the meter instead of using an app). Even as a paying customer they refused to give me four quarters for a dollar. I could understand their refusal if I came in off the street and asked for change, but I have been a regular patron over time, and all I needed this instance was help in getting change to park legally. Even more infuriating than that, the young store manager on duty was abrupt, arrogant and imperious, as if he owned the place. I asked for contact information for the owners to share my opinion, but the manager was insistent that the owners are well aware of this issue, and they are entirely unreachable. Perhaps the owners will read their public reviews, and if so, they will learn that I will now take my business to the cafe at Barnes and Noble across the street, where they have great coffee, and give change on request. read more
