Hatam changed their location, which I think is for the better. I like their new set up more than before. Food is still delicious. I ordered the chicken shish kebab with a side of shirazi salad and rice with saffron. The price is fair and the protein is always grilled to perfection. The portion size is very generous. You may not be able to finish your main dish if you order an appetizer. However, I do encourage a sampling of their tasty appetizers. Overall, I had a nice experience. Wait staff were very nice and attentive. The food came out visually pleasing and tasting yummy. Of course, I will come back. The next time, I plan on getting the shish kebab. Filet mignon overload. I ordered from Hatam for my friend's birthday party. It was a hit! Everyone loved the food. I talked to Housein who talked me through the best foods to get and how many of each order for my guests. He was incredibly helpful and the food was amazing. We got the Fesenjon, yoghurt dip with scallions, chicken and beef koobideh, hummus, and eggplant dish. I have definitely experienced better than this. I have been to the other Hatam restaurant in Mission Viejo, definitely better food quality, atmosphere and service. I was in Anaheim and wanted some Persian food, still don't understand how they have 4 stars. My friend and I got there, decor is not the greatest!! definitely like the Mission Viejo better. I was greeted by the front staff and were directed to a table. I looked at the menu and decided what I wanted. I like the Borani for the most part in Persian restaurants. Theirs lacked flavor and was not good at all. Then food came and they charge extra to change there rice from regular to Zarshak. None of the other Persian restaurants ever have. Ok not problem. Understandable. The food also came somewhat cold and they changed my rice for my friends rice. Then food comes, and its a good portion and the servers kept coming to ask about the food which is annoying because I dont need somebody to come and check on me 10 times! We got the bill and they just automatically add 15% charge... I have also not seen that before unless you have over $100 bill or more than 8 people which was neither. I asked about that and they said that you have to talk to your server. I dont think it should be there! I can add whatever amount I would like unless its a big party which makes sense. Used to be my favorite place until today. Yes the food is good overall, but the shirazi salad was made poorly, veggies appeared old and portion is not appropriate for the price. Worse than this was receiving the bill and seeing the 18% added tip. So wrong to require this when you get poor service and atmosphere at the restaurant doesn't warrant such a tip. We were directed to sit at a table for 5, not walked over to our table and had to pull our own extra chair and table settings that were missing on the table. The food quality and taste has deteriorated. The waitresses ignore your table the whole time. If you are with a group of people some eat and finish eating while others are still waiting for their orders. And to top off that they bring you with the check with 18% gratuity already implemented and if you don't pay attention they still expect you to give more tips. Gratuity automatically applies to group of 6 or more not when you have party of 3 people. If you want quality kabobs and great service go to Panini Kabob Grill or Kareem's Mediterranean. Masto Khiar is right on point! It's the bedrock of any proper Persian restaurant. Tadiq and the cherry pomegranate polo is the genuine article. The only criticism if any is that they are very inconsistent in handing out condiments like the sumac or butter for your rice. If you don't ask for it, they won't give it to you. Really disappointing when you get take out and said items aren't in the bag. People get busy. Things happen. I normally wouldn't say anything but this is happening too often to ignore. It's more of a service issue. It wasn't the owners. It was this "Karen" type girl who worked the front at a snail's pace. They should be more mindful of who they hire. Took my Greek friend to Hatam yesterday. She never had Persian food. Her fried trout came so dry, there was hardly any flesh left on it. It must have been refried many times, it looked like a piece of letter. I just can't believe that they actually served it. My dog would not have eaten it. Tahdig rice was so dry, she thought that it was raw. Needless to say she was not impressed and totally turned off Persian food. Which is sad, because I love it.... I live in the Inland Empire, and last month, they catered for 3 events within my family because we love them so much. We always drive by this area of Anaheim and see so many Persian restaurants we want to try. Trying to pick one can be overwhelming. Hatam sits on the corner though almost like it was calling for us and so this is where we made our stop. Right off the bat, we were welcomed by a very lovely, friendly woman who helped explain the menu to us. We ended up gettting the Koobedih combo and Hatam Special 2. Today my ex and my daughter and I went. I was so shocked at how the food tasted. It was so tasteless. I always order the Lubia Polo and my ex ordered the filet Ming kabob. I strongly believe that the cooks are different but I asked and the waitress said no and blamed it on Ramadan ... it was horrible and I cannot go back .. the food was so different, the Persian rice was tasteless the meat had no flavor and the Lubia polo .... Resident local friends of ours introduced this place to us when we met up with them a while ago. It is literally the definition of hole in the wall restaurant. You can not see it from the streets because of how the structure of the shopping center is. It is diagonal to the street, behind the gas station, so without gps or having someone who knows where it is, you will have a very hard time finding this place. There is plenty of parking, so that is not a problem. This restaurant is a decent size and it does seem very clean. LAMB SHANK: They serve you a giant lamb shank in sauce. It is so good! The meat literally falls off the bone, and they serve it with basmati rice mixed with dill and baby lima beans. I wish they would put more sauce, but I think I was too busy eating all the rice to even notice. GHORMEH SABZI: This is literally my favorite Persian dish. Where ever I go, I always this. It is basically herb and vegetables stew with beef and kidney beans. It doesn't look like much, but it will be one of those things that it has a powerful punch of flavor. HATAM SPECIAL #2: This combination is great if you want to try a bit of everything and like kabobs. It gives a row of lamb, chicken and koobideh (ground beef). It comes with rice, charbroiled veggies, and a salad mixture. One thing I liked about this is that the lamb was not gross. Most places don't know how to season lamb so it is always tasteless, chicken is dry, and the meats are overcooked. All the three types of meat were very flavorful, and shocked me and my husband. He was so in love with the lamb, and ate everything. HUMMUS: I don't know if you can really mess up hummus because it is so simple. We pretty much ate all of it, but didn't think that it was anything special. SIDES: After you order, they give a basket of lavish (which is a very thin bread - like paper consistency) and it is served with raw onions and butter. The other thing to watch out for was the PORTION! OMG it is huge where you can literally share one dish, any dish, between two people. The amount of rice and meat I had was a challenge that I was willing to take on, but massively failed! Be warned, there will be lots to take home afterwards. The only strange thing was the bill. They automatically added tip of 15 or 18 percent (I cant remember). It wasn't like I was going to be cheap with tip, but it is the fact that they automatically added it and we were only a party of four. Plus, the total was a bit over 100, so I thought it was weird. The service wasn't bad, and the food came out really fast so I don't mind paying what they deserve. Maybe the people in the area are bad tippers, so they are demanding it? Haha either way this place is amazing, and it was one of THE best Persian restaurant I ever had! The chicken is very tasty as well as the red rice. The plate itself is super flavorful a long with the pita bread and hummus. Fine Persian cuisine for dinner please. Hatam is family owned and everyone is super attentive and nice. Only Halal Meat is served here! I always try something new and I am always pleasantly surprised with the great tasting food with the perfect seasoning on all the fire roasted kabobs of chicken, lamb, beef, or a whole fish. They also have stews and many authentic recipes that highlight the magical spices and cooking techniques of Persia. The vegetables are fire roasted and served with warm bread. Dolmeh wrapped grape leaves are always my favorite little wrapped up goodness. From the homemade hummus to the Shirazi cucumber salad, and the yogurt sides are so good. Basmati Saffron rice in a traditional way that's aromatic and tastes like i have been whisked on a magic carpet and into a Persian kitchen. They have many delicious rice options, I love them all.
