I had heard about this breakfast and lunch restaurant. We were in Metuchin and decided to try it. Very pretty spot with some outdoor seating. The restaurant opens up a lot of windows to give it a nice appear. The staff is friendly, attentive and helpful. Gabe was our waiter and he was very friendly. We decided to try a couple of dishes that sounded interesting. The iced tea was unsweetened and was flavored nicely. The iced coffee was very good. We each had summer specials that had no modifications. My wife had the Panquesitos which was 3 excellent pancakes with Tres Leche, guava reduction, sweetend cheese and seasonal fruit. I had the Peachy Queen which was brioche with layers of peachJam and set Crean and fresh Jersey peaches. I am actually sitting in this establishment and I am appalled by the service and the the manager. The waitress was extremely rude to us from the beginning. Then after ordering my order came out incorrect when I asked the waitress she immediately spoke again with an attitude addressing me well first off all. In absolutely no circumstance should you speak with someone like that. I ordered waffles they came out cold about 5 piece of little fruit around it I actually should've taken a picture. When I asked for the manager he came out I explained and he did nothing. He took the food from in front of me and left no resolve or anything. I ordered the "que churro" which is a Belgian waffle, coated in cinnamon sugar, caramel sauce, topped with house whip cream and seasonal fruit. Essentially a churro as a waffle. I decided to order my caramel sauce on the side which I am happy I did so my waffle would not get soggy and I could control how sweet it was. I liked my waffle, it was at it was described. Not entire filling if you're looking for protein, but it was a sweet breakfast treat. The interior is very cute and the staff are really nice! I would come back. This morning we finally visited Hatch 44 Cafe in Metuchen, New Jersey a place I've been meaning to try for over a year and I'm so glad we did. We arrived at just the right time before the rush, which made the experience even better. The ambiance is beautiful: very nicely decorated, bright, and spacious, with plenty of room to sit comfortably. We were seated right away, and the service was excellent from start to finish-friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We ordered a cappuccino and hot chocolate, and both were absolutely amazing (as you can see from the pictures). For food, we went with the Chicken Scoop-waffles with chicken-and the Fiesta Scramble Bowl. Everything was delicious, flavorful, and very filling. Honestly, from drinks to food, it was a grand slam across the board. There are lots of menu options, the quality is top-notch, and the staff truly makes the experience enjoyable. As we were getting ready to leave, the place started filling up quickly-clearly a very popular spot. I also loved the charm of the town of Metuchen and can't wait to come back to try more dishes. Everything about this place checking a box for me. I came here because a good friend of mine reccomended it. Long story story this place SLAPS. I hate to sound like a broken record but it really does. We came in the morning on a weekday so we were able to get seated immediately. I can see this place being packed with a long wait on the weekend. The vibes here were dope. The music was great, the people were chill, and the paired with the food; I wanted to stay forever! Speaking of the food it was exceptional. Probably in my top 5 best brunch spots I've been to. That's saying something because I've been to a lot. The orange juice wad freshly squeezed, the hot chocolate tasted like my grandma's recipe, the latte was made with love, and honestly so was everything else. So I've given this spot a few try's before leaving a review. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful! But everything else is just okay. Service: Iffy each time I've gone. Either I or someone at my table has gotten at least something off with their order almost each time. First few times I went was when they first opened the new location, so I thought it might be that but it's not. Food: Good! But not great. The prices are definitely a bit high for the area and the food isn't good enough to make up for it. Also random but I do think it's odd that they have substitutions for pork but you can't actually substitute it for a small up charge, you have to fully buy the other meat as a side. Always think it's taking advantage a bit when places do this. For reference, I got one of the breakfast bowls where the meat was a small portion of it, not the whole meal. Drinks: Specials are very overpriced and again just okay. Wait time: Waits can get super long, and they don't take reservations (unless it's a big party) or do an online waitlist. This means you can't put your name down unless you come in person. I think this would make the experience a lot better if it was implemented! read more

To all the fans of Hatch 44 - please don't be mad on me but I think this brunch place is overhyped. Maybe it's advertised widely as the 'it' brunch spot - causing people to line up to enter over weekends - but I honestly don't think the food is worth the price or the hype. We had to wait over 30min but got a text as soon as table became available - ok, no issues. Plenty of street parking in the area, and a cute little downtown to walk around while waiting. Once in, service was great, no complaints - our guy was attentive and helpful. But the ambiance - even though a mix between casual & "hip" - left a bit of a sour taste due to sheer noise around (they fit a lot of people which is both good and not so good), and the music was so loud and upbeat, it felt like we should eat as fast as possible and leave. From the menu, my husband chose a burger-looking spicy chicken sandwich with fries which were very dry, and the chicken - not spicy at all. I had their own version of Shakshuka (think it's called "Hatchuka"), and was seriously disappointed - $18 for 3x slices of eggplant, topped with one egg and lots of Marinara sauce, with halved slice of bread on a side?.. C'mon...we know eggs are overpriced at this time, but I've had my fair share of shakshukas elsewhere to know that at least 2 poached eggs would be included- so this definitely didn't feel like a nearly 20 dollar meal, based on ingredients. Unless we're charged for the presentation..? All in all, the only thing that didn't disappoint was the staff & the service, but that's not the primary reason why I'd go to eat out, as my main goal is enjoying my meal - and this just didn't happen on this particular occasion. I went to Hatch 44 Cafe in Metuchen NJ for brunch. The ambiance and decor was beautiful. However, you can't do reservations for under 6 people. They do accept walk ins but on a first come first serve. Now I follow this place on social media and wanted to see what the hype was all about. When me and my friends went we love the decor but wasn't impressed with the food. I ordered the Chicken Scoop. The Chicken Scoop was Buttermilk fried chicken breast, Belgian waffle, a scoop of house bacon jam, maple mustard syrup drizzle, powdered sugar. Now when my food arrived my waffle was not crispy but very light with no taste to it. It lacked flavor. The chicken could have used a little more seasoning, the breading was fine but.I really didn't taste any real seasoning on it. One of my friend ordered Birria Eggstra Bout It. French style omelet filled with shredded birria beef, shaved onions, topped with queso fresco, crema, pico and tortilla strips served with a side salad. She said her beef was way too salty and she needed to add salt and pepper to the rest of her food, no boostful flavor at all. She said she enjoyed the salad. My other friend ordered the Fiesta Scramble Bowl. Fresh eggs scrambled, Chorizo (Pork), Mozzarella cheese, jalapeños, peppers, onions, pickled radish, avocado, and fresh cilantro served with seasoned potatoes, pico, queso fresco, Mexican crema, corn tortillas. Now when you read on the menu what this dish is you thinking tons of flavor but that too was a miss. She said her food could have had more seasoning to elevate her dish. We also shared the Classic French toast. Challah bread dipped in a vanilla & cinnamon custard batter, seasonal berry compote topped with cinnamon butter glaze and powdered sugar. My honest opinion of the French toast was it didn't tast like French toast, more like toasted bread with jam on the side. I didn't get the berry compote element, it wasn't even sweet but had a salt taste to it, epic no. I love French toast and if you are going to use Challah bread then the bread should be soaked in the the French toast mixture and not dipped. This was definitely a missed and disappointing. I did however, love my ice Vanilla Chai, it was delicious. One of the best chai's I have ever had. My friend enjoyed her Matcha so much so ordered 2. Now the drinks are really good. They don't serve alcohol so this is a bring your own bottle. If you are looking for a place with great decor and ambiance then this is the place. As far as the food there are definitely some misses. If they can improve and add more seasoning to make the food more flavorful and scrumptious then I would give this place a 10/10 but overall it's a 6/10. Drinks are good but food lacking. read more

Went for a mother daughter brunch date. Decor is very inviting and cozy. Food was good. My daughter had salmon eggs Benedict and I had steak and egg. I have to say that for my dish the amount of stake was not worth the high price of this dish. We also shared some French toast that we both liked. I had the cream brûlée latte which was the most delicious latte I ever had. Service was slow. We had to wait to get our water refilled, to get our food and when we needed extra utensils we had to get up and ask someone because we couldn't find our waitress. So good! I've been here many times and every time it's better than the last! BYOB perfect for a date or a girls brunch date. I had a birthday celebration here and the staff made sure everything went smooth, the kept my cake I brought there in the kitchen until it was time to sing happy birthday. they even offered to cut the cake up into slices for us and wrapped up the extra for easy transport at the end of the brunch. The owners are nice the staff is polite and it's perfect for picture taking. We were seated near the door where there was quite a bit of breeze that came in every time the door opened, so much so, I had to sit with my coat on. Asked for another hot cup of coffee and unfortunately it took them three tries to get me one that was hot. I got the veggie omelet and it was good. Just because a place has the right location, sleek decor, and that "Instagram brunch" aesthetic doesn't mean the food matches the vibe. The omelette came out looking decent until I spotted a hair strand in it pulled it out, tried to move past it... and then, sure enough, a 2nd hair strand was found buried in the coffee-flavored French toast. 2 separate dishes. 2 separate hair strands. At that point, it didn't matter how nice the lighting was or how full the place looked. The whole experience just screamed overhyped. The place is absolutely beautiful but it definitely does get packed on the weekends. I also did not love that I had to ask the server and other staff members for things that should've been provided, such as sugar , syrup, napkins, and ketchup. Not sure if it was because it was so busy but it felt like it was hard to get anyone's attention. Went here on a beautiful Saturday morning for breakfast/brunch. Did not have a reservation but was promptly sat when we arrived. Upon getting seated our waitress arrived fairly quickly with some glasses of water, asked us had we been there before, went through a brief explanation of how things went & gave us time to look over the menu after she took our drink order. Gave a great explanation of the menu, their seasonal items & how long the food would take as each meal is prepared fresh to order. She was very thorough with her explanations & left no detail out (so I assumed). There were various times where she asked out how our food was & when we asked for a small item or even she offered herself she ( I would hope) forgot to mention that those items would be an extra charge. I had the matcha latte which left me wanting more. As a fan of matcha I don't think I would have it again, just wasn't for me. My companion had the dulce de leche coffee & was not a fan of it either. Now to the food, the pancakes were ok, nothing out of this world or gave me the feeling of needing to have them again. They were a little on the dryer side but the (small) maple syrup came in handy with that. The turkey bacon (that was suggested by the waitress to ask for well done to make sure it would come out at least a little crispy) was in fact not well done, came out about room temperature & was just ok . The chicken scoop was the star of the show (& one of their most popular items on their menu), the chicken was seasoned well, not over cooked & came out hot. The waffles were big, soft interior, crispy exterior & delicious. It was paired with bacon jam & what seemed like their homemade maple mustard syrup (which was really good). Would I come here again? Sure. Will I be trying other items off the menu instead of what we tried? Absolutely. This restaurant is located in the downtown of a beautiful small town. Filled with a bunch of local businesses all in walking distance of each other. Side note: they are byob, so if you're going for brunch & want some liquid courage, make sure to stop somewhere to grab a bottle of champagne or stop by the liquor store which is located about 1 block away. read more
