4.5/5 stars! A very unique escape room experience! A group of 6 of us took on the room The Lab Rat. The theming is really great fun! Super unique and some of the special effects are fantastic! I've done a handful of escape rooms across LA and Orange County and this is definitely a memorable one. It is a wee bit pricey and I would say there are a few things that I think could be improved in my personal opinion! In general, I thought a few of the puzzles were not the most intuitive/logical. This room is definitely made for you to escape so you can get the full experience, so the game masters definitely assist when you get stuck. It feels like some of the puzzles were made for the players to get assistance rather than solve on their own. The priority is definitely to get you to end! Which some people may love and some may not. But to each their own! Also, the room is a bit tight (but it goes with the theme). It makes it difficult to work on the same puzzles at the same time and although there are definitely things to multitask on, I feel that the room was generally a bit linear as in one puzzle tends to be in play which leads you to the next puzzle. Once most puzzles are solved, it felt like only 2-3 people were working on a puzzle while the rest of us were kinda standing around. It was also a bit hot in there so some better AC would be totally welcome. Overall, what a fun and unique room! I'd say if you get a chance to try out Lab Rat, you totally should! Phenomenal experience! The Ladder was so immersive with costume props for the whole group, amazing set design and puzzles and games, and just the sheer amount of secrets and customization make me want to replay it again just to see if I can get a different ending. 20/10!!!! read more

Came back to try lab rats. I must say that this escape room had it all! It required a LOT of communication and had a lot of brain scratching, out of the box thinking, and teamwork. If you are stuck, there is a "i am dumb" button. I think we had to press that about 4 times throughout the experience. Side note, I purchased their 3 volumes for Mother of Frankenstein. The game masters said that he just finished volume 2 and he's been playing it for over 10 hours. I will do another review for this when I start/finish. This was truly a fun escape room. read more

Lab Rat was so fun! I was signed up for Hatch Escapes Lab Rat by Renaissance Club, and had no idea what to expect because I had never done an escape room before ever! We had a group of 5 from Renaissance club and out of the 5 of us 3 had done an escape room before and one other player had not other than me. Since it was my first time in an escape room I really didn't know what to expect. I had no idea what to look at or do first. I'm not sure if having a big or small group is better, but we were told 5 or 6 is a perfect amount. I spent a little time running around to see the whole maze, and then chimed in here and there to help solve puzzles. The puzzles were not THAT easy, they really had us thinking, but then when we figured out HOW to solve each puzzle, then it was like OOOOH yes it's easy. I LOVED it though, it really made us think outside the box and it felt so gratifying each time we solved something! Hahaha. So in the end one of our players was standing in front of the last puzzle, and I think there was too much overthinking going on in his head. This is where having so many people in the room makes it more complicated, because he was standing directly in front of it with a couple other people and I couldn't see so well. I feel that if he hadn't stood right in front I could have probably figured out that last one faster. I had so much fun though so I think my takeaways are, don't overthink anything, have fun, don't take it too seriously, and keep your mind open to the possibilities! Ben and Shiloh were great hosts for the game, giving a fun intro and keeping us on our toes with the commentary. I've never had a dog host at an escape room so if I could give them 6 stars for the experience, I would! The Nest is an experience unlike any other. It's more immersive theater than escape room. I CRIED in this room. It's so touching. Highly recommend! Finally, The Ladder. We beat it the first time, but we heard the bonus room was opening soon, so we knew we had to come back. 5 months later, we're back and did the bonus room! Super cool! Again, we beat it! My friends and I played Lab Rat and it was a fantastic experience! Lab Rat is really campy and immersive. The funny storytelling and witty puzzles are thoroughly entertaining. I'm personally used to escape rooms being a bit frustrating and overly cerebral. This one didn't leave me feeling stumped or inadequate in my solving skills. How would I describe "The Ladder" by Hatch Escapes? If you fused "Clue", the board game, with corporate espionage and sprinkled in arcade games and Star Trek, you'd get a pretty close description. Confused you, didn't I? Pull up a chair and lend me your eyes for a moment. "The Ladder" is my first "Escape" room experience and I was floored. Screaming, cursing, and frantically rearranging items was how I spend 90+ minutes of my day yesterday while my 5 teammates scurried around me in a state of analytical panic. The background (without ruining the experience for you): 1. Make that sweet sweet cheddar. Heroism isn't free, we still live in a capitalistic society, right? 2. Get involved in uncovering some shady dealings at your company. That's it. To call this an "escape" room would be to pigeonhole the experience into a narrow genre. It is NOT a traditional escape room. You're not desperately trying survive a zombie apocalypse by matching shapes. You're not running from a psycho while collecting knick knacks. Nothing is threatening you except your own greed and your supervisors creepy smile. Yet we felt deeply pressured to perform our duties as the newly hired employee at the company. Our bank account and pride demanded it. It is within these duties that the true nature of the "escape" room fully comes into its own genre. If Baldur's Gate 3 had a one-night-stand with Overcooked and gave birth to a detective child, it would be "The Ladder". Are you chaotic evil and will stop at nothing to make money? Do you lend your time to uncovering corruption at the company at the cost of forgoing higher income? The choice is yours. I would recommend at least 6 players. There is just so much for you to do that any smaller group may struggle with the multitasking. My husband and I tried the Nest, an intimate live experience that takes place in a storage unit. From the start to the end, the experience itself was very immersive and well thought out. It makes you feel like in a movie, making you forget that you were in an escape room building. Although there were a few puzzles, it was more about finding something new, rather than "escaping" itself. Although it was only my husband and I in the room, it never felt too empty, making it one of the few rooms that can perfectly accommodate only 2 people. I am so glad we found out about Hatch Escapes and tried the Nest. It might be a too cliche, but the experience changed me as a person. read more

I'm not sure if I've found another escape room that really puts as much pride into their escape rooms and experiences as Hatch does. (Though there are some others which are real close). I've done Lab Rat, The Ladder, and The Nest. The only thing that really makes me sad is that they don't have any other experiences right now. That said, all three of them are incredibly top notch and The Ladder has something nearly no other escape room has: replay value. These guys do it for the love of it and it shows in their work. If they ever come out with something else new you had better believe it will be at the top of my to do list immediately. read more

My friends and I decided to play The Ladder as our Christmas group activity mostly because I happened to receive an email saying The Ladder won a THEA which is apparently a very prestigious award including Disney parks. (Also, they happened to have a Black Friday discount.) So glad we played. The per person price seems like a lot until you walk into the first room. The production is VERY well done. The rooms are outfitted really well, the videos are professional and a lot of the games were more high tech. The premise of the room is very different from other escape rooms and I can totally see why you could play it over and over again. Each room had multiple games and puzzles going on and while I worked on whatever puzzle/game, I had no idea what my friends were doing. You definitely need a bigger group. We had seven people but we probably could've used a few more. If you've already played a bunch of escape rooms and are looking for something fresh, I highly suggest this one. My friends and I definitely want to go back and try it again. As for parking, it's street. We went on a Saturday morning and there was plenty. read more

Our host was stellar and the room quite possibly our favorite one yet. We went with Lab Rat based off of it's ranking in global escape rooms and it was a blast The theming, the challenges, and the amount of content far surpassed most of the escape rooms that we've done. From the production value in the room itself to the cutscenes in the videos, we thoroughly enjoyed the creativity all the way through The only thing we wished was that the riddles at a part of the game were more like puzzles instead of straight answers but overall, one of the best escape rooms we've done. A very solid and fun escape room to do with a group of friends! The puzzles are fairly cleverly written to the point where you have to think creatively, then once solved, feel a bit silly for realizing it took that long to solve. Their technology isn't super advanced, but it was still enjoyable to go through. The staff is super nice and accommodating. Our party had some stragglers that were late and they fortunately didnt mind. We still got our full time and they were courteous to chat with us about other escape room places! Booking an appointment on their website was super simple. I did notice that slots get filled up fairly quick, but you can check again later and it might open up due to a cancelling. Thats what happened for me when I was trying to book a 2PM. It got booked in the morning but then tried later in the day and it opened up again! Parking and pricing are the only reasons why I dont have them at 5 stars. They dont have their own parking; its residential street parking so it was a bit difficult to find a spot. We had to park further out. Also pricing is a bit more expensive, though you can tell it goes to a good cause. Lab Rat is a room that has been on my to-do-list since 2018 and even after all these years managed to be the BEST escape room I have done! (50+ rooms so far). I've held this in my back pocket for a long time searching for the right group to do it with and I finally found them Lab Rat will forever be one of my favorite memories and if you haven't tried this room out or have been waiting to do it all I can say is.... DO IT. Now that all being said..... the other room we did that night... The Ladder... how is it possible that Lab Rat... which was my No. 1 escape room after tonight... WAS BEATEN BY THE LADDER. Holy!!! This room is INCREDIBLE. It's immersive. It's challenging. It's fun. It's stimulating. It's so good that I cannot wait to come back again with my full team and try again!!! For an escape room to be replayable is a crazy concept and I truly believe that The Ladder is going to be in my top 3 rooms TWICE. The Nest is less escape room and more artsy environment storytelling a la Bioshock audio diaries. On the surface, it's simply cool to experience a narrative unfold by exploring a space but what truly elevates this room is the attention to character and detail in its set design. It's a powerful melancholic experience that is enriched by how much you surrender to its spell. The finale was a surprising emotional gut-punch that left me teary-eyed. Went here with our group of 10 and we had such a blast. Ben was our host and had the best energy! We arrived early, so we chatted with him and he even let us get going a couple of minutes early. Shiloh was also very adorable :) There were some technical issues with Lab Rat, but we were able to switch over to The Ladder instead and my it was such an amazing experience. We all scrambled and screamed, the 90 minutes flew by. The puzzles were quite tricky, but there were some fun & simple mini games/tasks to go along with it. It is impossible to adequately describe the experience of The Ladder at Hatch. I had previously experienced The Nest and it was truly magical. I come from a theater/events/immersive professional background and I had never experienced anything quite like this. The emotions and sense of discovery it brought about in me was magical. It was a while ago so is not as fresh in my memory and I have more "feeling" memories than detail oriented ones, so I'm going to switch back to The Ladder... The Ladder was truly time I could bask in curiosity and discovery and delight. It was time I could bond with my friends. It was time I could forget about the world around and play pretend in a practical and analytic way which suits my personality. Play is therapeutic. And so is problem solving. But, again, this is not your typical escape room experience and to reduce it to such would be reductive. One of my favorite part of it was that one of the goals is to simply "make money" and the activities we did to make money were so intensely satisfying. I loved the "flow" I felt when a "job" suited my personal aptitude. The amount of content and replayability packed into The Ladder is astounding. The production value is at the highest level-- game play, story, A/V content and execution, the build of the environment, the staff. The Ladder is worth every penny. I can't recommend it more. This is more of an experience with escape room elements where you inherit a storage unit from a woman who had no other relations. You learn about her life through listening to cassette tapes and looking through memorabilia. The setting is intimate, dark and a little dusty as you would expect a storage unit to be. Keep the cassette tape player with you through your exploration of the unit. You will have phone calls with tips to help you find your way. I can't recommend it enough - I was completely burnt out on "escape rooms" after showing up to one too many dull, unadorned office suites filled with FB marketplace props and a bunch of combination locks. This is definitely not that. It's not even really an escape room, it's in a category all its own. We played The Ladder, and everyone in our group was blown away by how engaging, immersive and elaborate the experience was. It's a multi-room game, and you actually progress through a storyline that evolves based on your choices and achievements throughout. You actually feel the connection between the puzzles and the story - all of the minigames make logical sense as to why you're doing them and are actually thematically relevant as opposed to the typical "walk into a room, pick everything up and look for numbers to input into locks". I don't want to say too much more because it's best experienced fresh, but I definitely plan to go back read more

Came here with my family and friends to escape the mouse trap maze! Without giving anything away, it was a ton of fun! Super immersive and just really great to figure out puzzles with your friends! Completely worth the trip going down! Puzzles overall weren't too hard, but we did request help a LOT from our overseer and are thankful for it! So fun! We did the Ladder with a large group of 10. The rooms, puzzles, props, storyline & whole production value was high quality! It was different from other escape rooms I've done in that it's kind of like a choose-your-own-adventure...the storyline changes depending on player input, so it's cool that we could come again, but have a different outcome. This is a review for Lab Rat which was a phenomenonal experience. I've done 20 or 30 escape rooms so I have a fair bit of experience and I would say this is the best I've ever done. Great theming and design with excellent and interesting puzzles throughout. Most of the puzzles were challenging without being annoying. My experience at Hatch Escapes was not the best - especially since I've only ever done one other escape room in my life. My friends and I signed up for the Lab Rats escape room. We had a total of 5 people. The escape room itself was not intuitive, extremely dark, there were words written very small (and were difficult to read in the dark), and we had to ask for hints multiple times. After each hint, we were surprised by how anyone would've been able to guess the next step/answer. A lot of the escape room wasn't really puzzle based either. All in all, I just don't think the escape room was made very well. We did not escape and the escape room host told us we were very close (only about 2 minutes away) to escaping. She proceeded to tell us that she would've let us continue had she not had another party right after us - but she spent more than 5 minutes talking to us after the escape room ended. So I'm not really sure why she couldn't have given us an extra 2 minutes. But to be honest, I don't think 2 minutes would've been enough because all of the clues just weren't very clear, helpful, or well made. For $59 per person, I felt kind of like I wasted an hour of my time and a lot of money. I don't really think my friends and I got to bond very much in particular either because the escape room isn't very collaborative. Some pros is that they have 2 gender neutral bathrooms, the host is friendly, the escape room is pretty large, and there is AC. read more
