Unfortunately, the 6th person couldn't make it, but between the 5 of us, we got out with 4 minutes to spare!! Granted we did ask for clues 2-3 times so we REALLY appreciated his help. GREAT fun!! We definitely will do it again. Limited parking in the back. Street parking in the front. I think they have 3 escape rooms. Two restrooms. Two spots where you can take a birthday sign picture. Terrible experience. Avoid this location - especially the Pirate escape room. It's just a dozen linear lock-and key puzzles with malfunctioning locks. So boring. "Go find 3 numbers written on the wall, enter them into the lock." "Now find 4 numbers written on another wall". When we were there the air conditioning was broken - and they didn't warn us in advance. Half of our group got nauseous from the heat and had to leave. Dreadful. My nephew wanted to do an escape room for his fifth grade graduation gift so I booked the Pirate's Den here on a Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. I purchased a Groupon for up to 4 players for $112 and somehow I got a $50 discount and ended up paying $62. For reference, my sister decided to tag along with us and paid $40 when she arrived that day. The Groupon is limited to the Pirate's Den but there are 3 other escape rooms available. Also, parking is iffy, but since we made an appointment on Sunday we were able to find metered parking out front. This was our first time doing any escape room and I came in with little to no desire to do this but left wanting to come back and try it again using a different strategy. The room itself was really cool and themed and when we made it into the third room it was a completely different scene which was fun. Our game master Jackson was very patient with us and kind and even gave us about five more minutes and let us know we were really close to finishing. I will admit there were some moments of frustration, but we all left feeling like we did something as a team and had a lot of laughable moments. read more

We had booked the Secrets of Wizardry and there definitely were elements of magic in the room. We had a few surprises and really enjoyed working through the puzzles. The only issue was the light. The lanterns weren't enough and we would've appreciated a little more light in the room without having to use the phone flashlights. Worth coming for sure! Long overdue, our large family of 20 visited the MagiQ Room over the summer. With three rooms they were accommodating for us all to play. We distributed small kids in the easier Wizard Room with their parents and all others went to the other two rooms. Very impressed with the ease of scheduling all the rooms for our party and the flexibility. They even let the last group spend a extra twenty minutes to escape the room when we were not able to get out. The place is deceiving in that it looks small from the outside but the space is big and (spoiler alert) do not end with the first room you are in! Would definitely choose this location again. I had a fantastic time playing here! I played the "Pirate's Den" and finished with 12 seconds left on the clock. It was a great second generation escape room with the perfect amount of puzzles that really made you rethink and do a double take on your thought process. It also truly felt like you were on a pirate ship! The manager/host/game master, Susie, was one of the friendliest and attentive hosts I've ever encountered at an escape room! We didn't really have a good experience. It was not fun. We did the Wizard room, which was mostly 2st gen and was easy, which was fine. However, one of the puzzles wasn't set properly and basically was already solved before we did anything. We finished in half an hour. The game master didn't realize we were done til we came to find her. We asked if we could redo that puzzle and she told us we couldn't do it as there was no time. (Booking was for 4-5 pm slot, we started 3.50 and we were done by 4.20 ish pm so there was plenty of time). I don't think it was worth the money. read more

Went here on 6/20 with a few family members; some from out of state. They were newbies; I was a 2nd timer. We arrived ~30 min early. Doors were locked. I called the number and spoke to a lady with a thick accent who wasn't there. This was at 3:30 pm!!! She arrived shortly before 4 with food bags in tow, taking her sweet time to unlock the place. I assume most early time slots were open due to a movie being filmed on Robertson. But if you have customers scheduled, lunch should have been way earlier! It had to be an uncomfortable ~80 degrees inside once the lady let us and another group in. She rushed through directions and my entire group was confused. It was after 4pm when the 6 of us got crammed into the Pirate's Den room. Everyone was hot and confused to start. It took us far too long to get past the first puzzle. The others were equally as confusing considering this was a "medium" level room. There was lots of key and number combination locks. Far too many that it became redundant. In the midst, the lady gave unlimited clues. It was difficult to understand her so some clues were still confusing. She gave us additional time to work our way out and we finally did. Our second room was Curse of the Mummy. It was a "difficult" room. Again, we got unlimited clues. We also felt rushed because the lady by this time kept buzzing into the walkie talkie and asked if we wanted her to come in and help. Again, a ton of clues led to an abundance of locks. Repetitive to say the least, but we somehow made it out with time to spare with the help now of a guy giving clues. I had a much better experience at the escape rooms by Maze Rooms. You get 3 clues and a lot of explaining beforehand. There was a variety of intriguing puzzles that led one to another. They also provide lockers. It was a nuisance for all the ladies to drag our purses into each room here. Get the Groupon deal and make sure you aren't rushed into and through the rooms as my group was. read more

Honestly, I'm really confused why there are so many good reviews. Our group of 6 did the Curse of the Mummy room and we were NOT impressed. We're all escape room enthusiasts and had never tried this company in particular. We decided on the Mummy theme out of the three because the story sounded fun. Unfortunately we were very wrong. The game master was not enthusiastic and probably one of the worst game masters I've ever had. It seemed like he was just there to finish his shift. They still use old school radios at this escape room... which I don't see many companies do anymore. A lot of places just speak directly to you Over speakers. The radios volume was extremely LOW and we could barely hear him for clues. When we did get the clues, we had to ask him to repeat 2-3 times due to the low volume. The game master also did NOT reset the room well once we got in. We got midway into the room and one of the clues we were supposed to retrieve from the puzzle was just there. On top of the puzzle. We were confused. After the game, the game master admitted that it was not reset correctly. The production value of the room was not great. You could see exposed extension cords, badly printed graphics/photos, and decorations that didn't even match the room. Everything was just a lock. There was no technology behind any of the puzzles. I do not recommend this place. Maze rooms is right around the corner. Their rooms are also not the best production but better than this one. read more

When my friend suggested an escape room experience to celebrate my birthday, I panicked. What if we didn't make it out in time? I wouldn't be able to escape the shame!! Just kidding. So four high school friends of mine treated me to the Pirate's Den escape room on a Thursday night. Of course we were running late and LA traffic is insane at rush hour, but luckily we made it in time for our 7pm reservation. Being on time meant we would have the full hour to try to escape the pirate jail in hopes of finding the pirate booty. There is a free teeny tiny parking lot in the back and some metered parking on the street. Yes, it is smart to car pool. A friendly staff member checked us in and promptly had us sign the releases on her tablet. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to read the release since the program only allowed me to add my signature. She led us to our room and explained some of the rules. The red locks are not locks for us to try to open. Don't force anything. Don't move furniture. Place open locks in the basket. There is a walkie talkie incase we need clues or assistance. Being we were the first reservation of the day and the staff member had just got there herself, the place was uncomfortably stuffy and hot. For maybe 45 minutes we were sweating, and not because we were stressed to find our way out of the escape room. I appreciated the thought that was put into the puzzles and challenges, while keeping to the theme. Only one in my group had ever done an escape room before, so we were all just trying to figure things out and look for connections in the clues. We were challenged to be patient, communicate openly and support each other as we tested out different solutions or explored different possibilities. I guess all these years of friendship paid off because we were all in sync. Our teamwork was spot on. While some tasks took longer to figure out than others, we still remained cool and were focused on having fun. Yes, we did find the pirate booty and escaped from the Pirate's Den with time to spare. It was an exciting and fun adventure, Everyone talked for hours about how much fun we had and what themed escape room we'd like to do in the future. MagIQ Room was perfect for first timers and a wonderful introduction to escape room challenges. Back when I played this room SECRETS OF WIZARDRY-27th room The room had decent puzzles that made you think. This is definitely a puzzle based room that CAN be completed with just 3 people. The decor was simple yet good with theme. Make sure to check absolutely everywhere for things..they can be hiding in the most obvious/absurd places. *HINT*. The room itself had an climatic finish which is always nice. They also are able to turn the room into a party for kids' birthdays and what not, so it's a decent sized room. The soundtrack is well fitted. PIRATES DEN-28th room This room was more of my favorite compared to the wizard room because the decor in this one made you feel like we were actually on a Pirate set. MINOR DECOR SPOILER: They do have sand which was the most epic part! No its not enough to get in your shoes but its enough to make you feel like you are almost to the beach. END OF SPOILER The puzzles were well thought out and again was a more think outside of the box kind of puzzles. Very puzzled based and definitely need to communicate. The room was linear. A great bonding experience! This is my first escape room and it couldn't have gone any better. My boss bought the tickets for some coworkers to try. He bought the Pirate's Den one on Groupon because it was on sale. There were seven of us. Our reservation was at 7pm but we were all there by 6:40pm. There is a parking lot in the back but there was plenty of parking outside for 2 hours (free after 6pm). We were craving Komodo and their limited time phoritto so we were hoping to finish earlier so we could try it before it closed. Because there was no group in the room at the time, the worker was very accommodating and let us start a little earlier. She gave us instructions on what to do and some tips, and all she gave us before sending us into the room was a light, a piece of paper and a pen. I won't give away anything away, but if you've never tried an escape room before (like me), the beginning is really tough. You're trying to work together with other people and it might start off a little slow, but as you start going through the room, you understand how everything works and you work better together. We started off slow but towards the end, we were on a roll. We ended up finishing in 49 minutes out of the allotted 60 minutes. We were told that we were the ~42nd group to finish under 60 minutes without any hints out of about 2,000 groups who have tried, which is a pretty cool accomplishment! I would come back again and try the hardest room with the same group, just to see how good of a team we are. read more

I never pass up a decent Groupon deal, so hi again, MagIQ Room. Last we beat "Pirate's Den" (See "Previous Review") with a decent time record, let's see if we could do better today with "Curse of the Mummy". The overall "performance" of both rooms were consistent, though each had its own strengths and weaknesses. Let's start off positive: The puzzles were fun. Never mind how horribly forced into being "Egyptian" themed, this game has an eclectic collection of brain teasers that I, an escape room enthusiast, still thoroughly enjoyed. Not that they were super challenging, but they're so varied in formats and styles, they still tickled my fancy in all the right places. 1 or 2 puzzles in particular even wowed me for their cleverness. Next, production value. Even by a more DIY standard for MagIQ Room, (that's my way of saying even when NOT comparing MagIQ with today's leading franchise like 60Out), Curse's decor is still on the weaker end of the spectrum. Last we visited Pirate's Den, they've turned their office building into an authentic looking, wooden pirate's ship. In stark contrast, this mummy's tomb flat out sucks in comparison. Not even close. To the best of my recollection, little effort were spent on the walls, and this was essentially plain rooms with Egyptian statues standing in the corners. To add more insult, a miniature pyramid contraption is the center focus piece, and the mummy is resting in a plain, un-decorated, wooden coffin. I may not be a history buff, but wouldn't it make more sense if the walls were covered in hieroglyphics, and the coffin constructed in the shape of a human king's body, as popularized by... you know, all mummy related multimedia? Poor choice of props and sets lead to minimal immersion. Firstly, electrical outlets were exposed (I think), a big no no for any historically themed rooms. Next, almost all puzzles felt like puzzles for puzzles' sake. Why would there be giant maze box, sliding wooden blocks, and TAROT READING CARDS installed in a mummy's tomb? And for the many padlocks we opened throughout the game... early lock models were invented in the 19th century. So. The most authentic Egyptian "thing" in the room was probably my friend, who's full-blooded Egyptian, lol. Lighting, however, was spot-on, and the one single most successful attempt in keeping the players barely in the story world. It was just dim enough to instill a sense of dread, but not so dark that kids would be seriously creeped out. I did feel like I was exploring someone's eternal resting place, so for that, kudos. No matter how much I "bash" this game, there's always saving grace that is bargain pricing. With Groupon, each participant ended up paying less than $20, which is an incredible deal. (I could honestly lose $20 worth of credits at the local arcade within the span of 15 minutes, and today's game proved to be a much more cost effective hobby alternative.) At the end of the day, it is what it is--a mildly themed puzzle room, designed for kids party, not adults. (Had this been more immersive like Pirate's Den, it would've earned a solid "B", since Curse really did have better puzzles.) Nonetheless, I can say with good conscience and confidence that, we were entertained for a good 40 something minutes. It may not be the same heart-pounding experience derived from more intense escape rooms, but for the price we paid, and for games that are intentionally geared towards younger kids, MagIQ Room did a fantastic job. If I ever had kid(s), and want to train them into escape room artists at a young age, I would 100% bring them here, since this business knows their target audience well, always semi-educational (there's always a math problem, what's up with that?), and provides good customer service. It's with much regret to report that I most likely would not return for the last of the 3 rooms, Secrets of Wizardry, the Harry Potter-esque themed room. This is mainly because there doesn't seem to be discount available (Groupon or otherwise) for their most popular room, and if I had to pay full admission on their basic gen 1 style games, I personally don't think it's worth my bucks. Not that there is anything wrong with gen 1 room format; it's just that you can't just throw a bunch of locks together, paint a thin layer of "theming" over it, and expect it to be a good product. Alas, from what I've seen in various media, the Wizardry room is probably the closest solution to my complaint--it is fantastically decorated, seemingly the most immersive of the 3, with secret pathways, and with more magical puzzles embedded. (The puzzles are also rated the easiest, thus probably not going to offer big challenges for us enthusiasts anyway.) Aw well. Until a good promo rolls around, I guess this is where we part. We did the Pirate Room which was about a 3 out of 5 in the difficulty rating but had a great time figuring out clues and solving puzzels to get to the pirate booty treasure! 1 thrilling hour to get through puzzels and several rooms to find your goal. All the challenges worked as described. Our tools functioned properly as well. Sophie our host was really great with getting us situated in the beginning and explained all we needed to know. The room is totally safe at all times and there are walkie talkies and survelience cameras to watch the participants in case any help is needed. We managed to finish our challenge and escape just in the nick of time. It was a real challenge but an awesome time for our group of 4. I found this on a Groupon deal and am so glad I did it. After you do so many, it becomes fairly easy to know where to look, how to use some things given to you and how to decode. The PIRATE ROOM was good, and i think it would be great for first timers or first 5 times. After that, people with more experience might find it a little too straight forward and not challenging enough which was my case. All in all, the decor was good and spacious enough for 5-6 people.
