A unique and incredible experience. Tried the Ladder at hatch escapes which was different than the typical escape room. The puzzles and story line was creative and challenging. Downside is it is pretty expensive but it is a longer experience. Ben and Anthony were great hosts and truly made it an immersive experience. I have previously done the Lab rat escape room which has a more traditional format but also was exceptional with unique puzzles that I hadn't seen at other escape rooms before. 100% would recommend. read more

(This is a review for The Nest experience/room only - I haven't done the other room, Lab Rat, yet but will absolutely go back for that!) First of all: thanks Morty app for pointing out these unmissable escape rooms for us fans! We'd never have known about this without the overwhelmingly positive reviews from others. If you're looking for a puzzle-heavy experience, this isn't that. But if you're looking for a thought provoking, potentially emotional experience augmented with puzzles, this is perfect for you. I love immersive experiences (Sleep No More in NYC got me started) and this is one of the best. The level of detail in the construction is amazing, and how this plays into the storyline makes it so meaningful. I was in tears at the end, because I'm sappy and sentimental like that. I can't say more without spoiling it. If you remember the Myst game of the 00's, this gave us the same vibe: clever interaction, atmosphere, storyline, but also the clearly heartfelt construction of it. So fun! We did the Ladder with a large group of 10. The rooms, puzzles, props, storyline & whole production value was high quality! It was different from other escape rooms I've done in that it's kind of like a choose-your-own-adventure...the storyline changes depending on player input, so it's cool that we could come again, but have a different outcome. For your helpline, they even had a live "character" come into the room scenes with tips...Manav was awesome and made it an excellent experience! Will definitely come again! read more

This is a review for Lab Rat which was a phenomenonal experience. I've done 20 or 30 escape rooms so I have a fair bit of experience and I would say this is the best I've ever done. Great theming and design with excellent and interesting puzzles throughout. Most of the puzzles were challenging without being annoying. Wow. Just wow. If you're looking for an escape room experience where the biggest puzzle is figuring out why the manager won't let you in, look no further than Hatch. Our group arrived excited and ready to go, fully aware of the 12-person limit. Two of us even voluntarily stepped aside to comply with the rule. But apparently, logic and basic math weren't part of the game, because the manager A (he/him), decided that wasn't good enough and kicked us out anyway. No real explanation, no flexibility, just a hard "no" delivered with the warmth of a broken air conditioner. It's almost impressive how quickly they managed to turn enthusiasm into frustration. If Hatch put half as much effort into customer service as they do into enforcing arbitrary decisions, they might actually have a solid business. Instead, we were left standing outside, wondering if the real escape challenge was escaping the passive-aggressive power trip we just experienced. Would not recommend. Unless, of course, you enjoy paying to be turned away at the door. read more

We went with a group of 10 people and had an absolute blast! We have been to a lot of escape rooms and I have to say The Ladder was by far the most unique and engaging one yet. Multiple rooms each with multiple puzzles and games. A special shout out to our game master, Manav, who played the role of the "janitor" and actually came into the room to help with hints where we seemed to be stuck. There's a ton to do and the whole thing is designed to be played multiple times to achieve different endings. Everyone had a great time and we will definitely be back! read more

We booked the Lab Rat room and had so much fun. When we arrived, instructions were provided, what to do and not. We proceeded with the game which was challenging but not impossible. Hints were used since we like to actually finish the game. Highly recommend. Production was top notch. read more

Excellent escape room!!!! Lab Rat had a really fun blend of narrative, clever puzzles, and some surprises! There was a clear logic throughout the room which I thoroughly appreciated! The design of the room is masterfully done in the room and it is so clear what you are attempting to do at each point in the room! (it's one of my biggest complaints with other rooms in LA, where you just end up having to guess at what you are trying to do at certain points, and thankfully that was not Lab Rat). Our group did Lab Rats and it was so much fun!!! Did it with a group of adults and kids (9-13 y/o) and it was both challenging and entertaining. So well themed. What made the experience incredible was Ben and Shiloh! The best gamemaster(s) ever!!! They were simply THE BEST and I would come back just to see them. My only recommendation would be to try to schedule on a weekday because it was pretty pricey to do it on the weekend. But definitely looking forward to coming back to Hatch! read more

I did Lab Rat in 2019 and thought that it was one of the best escape rooms in the US. It was a memorable 5/5 room with a unique story and concept, effective set design with custom props, and good puzzles. The first half was quite a bit stronger than the second half of the game, but overall it holds up as an amazing room. I recently returned to Hatch Escapes to play The Nest, which I was excited about because of my experience with Lab Rat. Here's my review of The Nest, which I completed in a group of 4 players: The Nest was a unique, story-driven experience that made me reflect on life. It was beautifully done, though people looking for a standard puzzly escape room experience may not enjoy this as much. Story: You've won ownership of a storage unit owned by a woman named Josie, and you're taking the opportunity to explore her storage unit with a cassette deck and listen to her story. + They did a great job setting the tone and progression of the story using the cassette deck, audio recordings, and the set. + The story was emotionally moving - one person in our group cried. I found some of the subject matter upsetting because it felt so real and sad, which wasn't necessarily pleasant but did what it sought to do. - The ending felt somewhat abrupt. Set: + The set was really unique. It really looked like a storage unit, not only within the game itself, but part of the walk up to the game and the hallway where we enter the room. Within the storage unit, there were also a couple surprises that added some set variety. - The space was fairly cramped, particularly with 4 people. This probably wouldn't have been as bad with two players, but it would've still been fairly tight. - The room was quite dark and we only had one flashlight. It seemed that the purpose of having only one flashlight was to keep the group together, but I think it would've been a better experience if we could each have our own light and they just told us that we should stick together. The darkness ended up setting a spooky atmosphere, which isn't my favorite and I'm not sure was completely necessary to drive the story. Puzzles: - The puzzles were fairly trivial, and though they did fit in with the story, they didn't advance the story, which would've elevated the experience. read more

A friend found the Lab Rat escape room due to its high reviews, and I have to say, 10/10 did not disappoint! A big part of this was also our awesome game master Michael! We really enjoyed his engagement and knowledge in knowing when and how to guide our group through the room. We luckily never used any hints, but when needed, Michael knew exactly how to nudge us correctly! On top of that, I really appreciated how he let our group know that we could arrive earlier to the location if we wanted to due to another group's cancellation since we had a super late reservation - superb communication! Even after finishing, we were able to chat and bond with Michael over our joint enthusiasm for escape rooms and their creativity! I've done over 20+ rooms and this easily made my top 3. The creativity, theme, and variety of puzzles made it so much fun for our group of 7. With 2 newbies, 3 amateurs, and 2 veterans, we escaped with a little under 2 minutes left. The puzzles weren't difficult, but I would rate it a medium difficulty room! Reservations were made online prior, and we had no issues adding more people to our reserved time when needed. There's also only street parking available, but plenty along the main road if you can't find any in the residential area. Waivers can be signed ahead of time as well so once you arrive, you're ready to go. Restrooms are also available and there's a spacious waiting room in the lobby area! Lab Rat definitely deserves its high ratings. Must do for every escape room geek! Highly recommend! read more

I have been looking forward to doing the Ladder for yearsss. Unfortunately, my group and I were pretty disappointed. There was several broken games and even a glitch during a game so we were stuck until it got fixed. Also, they messed up and showed us the wrong ending-we had to correct them. Did Lab Rats, and it was a very well done room. The storyline was creative, and the puzzles were fun. I do wish the price would be decreased depending on the size of the group. I would suggest doing this room with 4-5 people, 6 felt like too many people. Perhaps I ignored the email details, but I wish there was a verbal heads up before starting the room about flashing lights. I was not a huge fan of the strobing lights, but thankfully it didn't last too long. Also there was a puzzle that I question how sanitary it was. I would suggest they utilize something that is wrapped instead. The staff was friendly, and overall we had a lot of fun! Everything was clean and seemed well maintained. It was fun that they have a little gift shop as well. I would recommend this escape room! read more

If I had to use one word to describe this room..."A-MAZE-ING" (pun intended). I've done my fair share of escape rooms and this is definitely top 5! The room was very well designed and immersive. Puzzles were challenging and fun. Normally, my group and I would pass rooms with 5-10 minutes left but this was the exception. We made it with 38 seconds remaining! Game master Esther is awesome. She would nudge us in the right direction or give clues at certain times to make sure we escape in time so we can could see the ending. 38 seconds remaining is proof of that! After hearing from a friend (who does a LOT of escape rooms) that Lab Rat is one of his favorite escape rooms ever, I had to check it out. I took a party of 5 here for my birthday, and we had a blast. This is one of the physically largest escape rooms I've ever been to (but it isn't the one with the largest number of puzzles). All of the space was decorated amazingly well with great attention to detail. There are a ton of beautiful paintings that really immerse you in the atmosphere they are trying to create. My group escaped with 7:35 to spare, and we were so happy to have had this experience. read more

Where were you when hurricane Hilary hit?! My friends and I were trapped as rats being tested on trying to make our great escape. I've done many escape rooms in SoCal and Lab Rat definitely exceeds expectations and deserves its high praise. Lab Rats has a great story & theme, creative & challenging puzzles, aesthetically pleasing & high tech. It really has everything you'd want in a great escape room. The amount of time provided was fair and the staff will provide small hints to push your party forward to experience the entire room without giving you direct answers to the puzzle. I did The Nest a few years ago and it was one of the best pieces of creativity I've ever experienced in any media. So I was very excited last week to do The Ladder with my friends. Wow, what a bust. First of all, numerous games didn't work and the ending was completely broken. Our guide acknowledged and apologized for some of this, but he only gave us a 25% refund. I wasn't in a position to argue since I was with a group, but frankly this is supposed to be a cohesive immersive experience and since we were taken out of it repeatedly due to the tech breakdowns, I think a full refund or free tickets to come again would have been in order. Though TBH, I'm not sure I would want to do The Ladder again. The way your character earns money in the experience is through games that are just fancy copies of ones you can play in the real world: match games, fitting pieces together, word finder, skeeball, Simon Says, etc. There are even 100% rip-offs of video games like Donkey Kong and Double Dragon. Definitely not worth nearly $100 per person. read more
