We look for highly rated restaurants, close to the interstate and which have outdoor seating because we have dogs. Bringing water for our dogs and cups to take our sweet tea with us, our server, Kiersten, was the epitome of friendly southern hospitality. The barbecue was delicious. You could see the smoker on the property. What set this apart was the choice of sides. There were several sides such as green bean casserole and creamed corn that you don't see at other barbecue joints. We will definitely be back on our next trip to NC.

Easily the best thing on the table and definitely worth trying. Unfortunately, everything else just didn't live up to it. The BBQ and brisket were a letdown -- lacking flavor, not as tender as expected, and just didn't have that true smoked BBQ quality you look for, especially in a place like Hickory where the standard is high. Service and atmosphere were fine, nothing bad there, but when the main focus is the food, it just didn't deliver the way I hoped it would. Left feeling disappointed and honestly wishing I had gone somewhere else. Might give it another shot down the road, but based on this visit, it didn't live up to the hype for me.

This is one of my favorite food spots in Hickory! The workers are all very friendly! It has a great local vibe in there and its small so It's always packed! I would say it could use some updating in the decor department, but the food is incredible! I have never had anything there that I didn't like. The mac and cheese is INCREDIBLE!! Love this place! Definitely worth a try if you're looking for a great local restaurant! Hickory needs more places like this downtown! read more

This food was delicious and unique. My one year old was in heaven with the grill cheese. I loved the broccoli with miso. So many veggie options. Staff is super friendly and gracious. The menu is quite large, and it took a bit of time to decide on my order, but I ultimately went with a combo including a half ham wrap, a drink, and a side of pasta salad. The cashier was very good about openly telling everyone in line about price differences from the printed menu before ordering. Because the kitchen was experiencing a significant delay, it seemed like they quietly upgraded me to a whole wrap as a nice peace offering! It came cut into two parts, with one part wrapped neatly in foil. Personally, I really wish they offered a "build your own" option where you could just choose your own specific bread, meat, cheese, and toppings, rather than having to hunt through the large preset menu options to find a combination where you like everything. I was really surprised by how incredibly small the side portion of pasta salad was--about the size of a standard salad dressing container! I've honestly never seen a side dish served that small before, so I posted a photo of the two side by side to show the exact comparison. Next time, I would skip the combo entirely and just order the sandwich on its own. The ham wrap itself was really good, and the small bite of pasta salad was very tasty. However, it did take quite a bit longer than it should have for the food to leave the kitchen, so this slow wait time could definitely be an issue for someone on a tight lunch schedule.
