Hatch is definitely a hole in the wall but everything we got was so good! I got the grilled cheese which had several kinds of melty cheese on really good thick bread (sourdough maybe?). The stretch factor on the cheese was crazy . It was perfectly buttery and toasty; very tasty. My hubby got the chicken salad sandwich which he really enjoyed. It had chunks of chicken, avocado, feta, bacon, and cilantro which sounds like an unusual combination but he said it all worked well together. All sandwiches come with chips (wise brand which I love ). We shared a side of mac 'n cheese which was great too. It was a homemade stove top mac 'n cheese using orecchiette pasta. I went here from lunch when I was meeting a friend - it was a wild card pick because she's from California and I'm from Winston-Salem and unfamiliar with the Hickory area. However, it was a home run! I had the pulled pork banh mi which was AMAZING! The pulled pork was so juicy, it made the sandwich. The cilantro and carrots were delicious, the bread was perfect - no complaints to be found here! Hatch offers realistic prices for amazing food. Lots of local fresh produce and ingredients and amazing combinations as well as changing specials to keep it exciting: I recommend the pulled pork Rueben. But honestly I have never ate anything I didn't love. The sides are amazing from the maple Brussels sprouts to the miso broccoli and Mac n cheese. Go hungry leave satisfied! This is without doubt one of the BEST KEPT SECRETS of casual sandwich dining in downtown Hickory. We visit it often for lunch and early dinner. The food and home-made creations are incredible and the FRESH salads with caramelized pecans and thinly shredded apples makes a great meal in itself. The staff is very friendly and very helpful in making the perfect sandwich. The Cuban Sandwich is great, as well as the Turkey and Bacon Avocado. Hatch is a great little corner bar in Hickory and I would suspect it's a leader for the area. In other cities this place would fall far short, but I didn't find much other good food around to compare it to. The service is spot on and true to the friendliness I expected in a small southern town. Full compliments to the employees. The sandwiches are ok. Definitely edible but they don't blow your mind. The Banh Mi lacked cucumber and was on the wrong type of bread. The Cuban was on sliced bread... HUGE MISTAKE being that I was born and raised in Tampa. The Mac and Cheese was edible, but far too mealy to make it exceptional. I would suggest more noodles, less cheese next time. Maybe a little pepper would help too, but that's just me. I really like casual atmosphere but don't like that they don't have trashcans. It's sort of an order at the counter, seat yourself, leave all your trash on the table kind of place. It just feels awkward. I would recommend this place if you are in Hickory, but don't make it a destination. read more

Not bad, Downtown Hickory, not bad. Ordered the PB&J for my 3 year old, it's grilled so I wasn't sure if he'd eat it. He gobbled it down! My sandwich, while very good, was my least favorite of the three ordered at out table. I had the turkey, bacon, avocado. It was heavy on the avocado, & I loved it. My Dad had the Italian, it had a balsamic dressing on it that was divine. But my husband out ordered us all with the pork belly Cuban- crunchy grilled bread with melted cheese. I'm still thinking about it and I only had one bite. I also had a root beer. It was THE BEST ROOT BEER EVER! My hubby said it's the best place we've eaten at in all of Catawba County. read more

Had a MAGICAL BLT on the way to Asheville. Well, it was actually a BLAT because there was a ton of creamy delicious avocado in the most gorgeous shade of green. I'm usually hesitant to order sandwiches because I always think I can make them at home, but then I remember that cafes actually buy THE GREATEST BREAD IN THE WORLD and it's deliciously toasted and cut into triangles like my mom used to do (but she didn't cut off the crusts, because that's just too country club for me). Hickory was voted one of the worst towns in the US to live by Gallup, but this cafe makes it all better. OMG P.S. GET THE BRUSSELS SPROUTS, they are soooo divine. I literally spooned the maple syrup sauce into my mouth afterward. What an inspired combination. Love these guys, love this place. Minus one star for "atmosphere", but whatever. I love Hatch. My only qualm is I feel like the food is a little greasy. I typically eat very clean, so that may just be me being picky. The flavors are good, the ingredients are fresh, staff is friendly, restaurant is clean. Parking is terrible- but that is a trait for all of downtown Hickory, not just Hatch. It's a cool place, has that Asheville type vibe. Worth a try. read more
