Formerly the pool company, we have a 20-year-old fiberglass pool. The pool was a 2nd. The amount of cobalting, bubbles, cracked gel coat, and large amounts of chipping were and are extensive to this day. We looked in to getting a different pool, getting it repaired, getting it repaired by other companies, etc. There was never a good solution. We have had nothing but problems with this pool for 20 years. Within 1 year the salt cell went out, the slide they gave us broke within 2 weeks. Jerry said oh it must have been an old one from the back. It dry rotted and cracked into piecees. We removed it and where it was bolted into the concrete all cracked. It was installed un-leveled. Extremely poor concrete install without correct expansion joints. Every bit of concrete has broken, come off, lifted and this month we are paying $5,000 to have the concrete repaired, but not replaced, we cannot afford that. We inquired about having the pool removed permanently, however, the people who were interested did not want this pool because it was in such bad shape. They all said it was a second hand pool that should have never been installed. No one wanted this pool. We called Sutcliffe Pools, Hatteras Fiberglass Pools, and were continually told over the last 10 years, We are not in business anymore, You will have to check with your installer,etc. For a pool that should have lasted 50 to 75 years, no one took accountability. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. My pool has issues that need to be evaluated by the company. The issue was identified by the guy who does the maintenance and cleaning of my 5 year old pool. I contacted Joe Biron last year. He wanted to wait until it was warm so he could get in the pool. I have texted with him all summer. He is four hours away so did not want to drive here for just my pool issue. He does not have a rep here anymore. He now wants me to pay a surcharge for him to come. Then he wanted to "make a deal" with him that if he found the issue was non warranty, I would pay him a surcharge. He then told me he was willing to help, but I was a disappointment as a customer. In texting with him over the summer, he has told me that what I was seeing was likely psychological. He's said that people who have given him bad reviews or reported him to BBB are psychotic. He has said that the salt system has probably damaged my pool. He has told me that he does not want to do a favor for me, which is repairing gelcoat, because I am cheap and nasty. (I don't even know if it is a gelcoat problem.) He is demeaning and unprofessional. STAY AWAY!!! He doesn't even deserve one star. read more

No stars, buyer beware. They make sub-par shells and make broken promises that they can repair it. We called out some white spots on a sand colored shell the day it was delivered and I was promised they would make it whole and no worries they can fix it. We have major gel coat issues with ours. Joe admitted in writing that if the warehouse workers take the shell off the mold and there are blemishes they are instructed to repair vs. starting over and making a new shell. That means there molds are bad and need destroyed. Any reputable fiberglass pool company will retire a mold if it starts to produce imperfections on the fiberglass shells. Joe the owner will blame you and is completely rude and lies over and over. Do your self a favor and get a pool from someone else! We also have construction issues to where a section of concrete was poured to where the water flows towards the pool and not the drain so major water flow and drainage issues. I am going to have a entire section of concrete tore up to fix. I will also have to have the pool resurfaced. Construction was horrible from the beginning. Lack of communication, shell dropped to deep into the ground, work around to get our travertine coping installed which is not proper and I now have some lifting from the pool, pool light quit working, pump would trip the pool off at times because they installed a faulty one etc. and etc. Pool was installed in Nov/Dec 2020 and these type of things should not happen. Poor product quality. Spider cracks, cobalting and surface flaking from day 1. Customer service was terrible and blamed others for manuf defects In 2005 we had a new home built in Corolla, NC by Mancuso Dev. The Home included a "new" Hatteras fiberglass pool. Upon start up of the pool we noticed spider cracks, chips, cobalting and flaking of the bottom surface. Our home developer refused to follow up this issue and referred us to the Hatteras Pool rep, Joe Barrow. After several calls we finally got this rep to come out in the spring of 2006. He blamed the cobalting and flaking on pool maintenance despite the fact that out maintenance company was handing similar pools for years without issue. The spider cracks were explained as a normal part of manufacturing if the pool got stuck in the mold and had to be "hit with a hammer" to get it out. The chips were fixed. Rather than getting involved with a legal battle we decided to live with the pool as best we could. Now after 12 years we decided to have the pool resurfaced with a new product. Once emptied it was determined that the pool bottom had been "painted" with a marine paint which is what we saw as flaking (there was even a ring from a paint can left on the bottom). There were also previous repairs, and extreme blistering in the gel coat found. What is obvious is that this pool which was sold to us as new was defective and cosmetically repaired from the beginning. The attempt on the part of the manufacturer was, at best, disingenuous. They are not reputable or honest. We do not expect any financial remuneration but do hope others will see this and think twice about buying a Hatteras Pool. read more
