My wife and I stopped in for a quick breakfast. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and shown to a booth. The diner is spacious, divided into three sections: the middle section features all booths, while the outer sections combine booth seating along the walls with tables in the center. The atmosphere is bright, cheerful, and airy. Our waiter promptly arrived to offer coffee, and soon we had steaming cups along with glasses of cold water. I ordered the number 12 combo: juice, coffee, pancakes, and oatmeal. The oatmeal was good, though it was on the runny side. The pancakes came hot and delicious--four to a stack, which proved too much for me to finish. The coffee was strong and tasty, with continuous refills. Takeaways: 1. Excellent price to portions 2. I am a fan of the Long Island diner. When I visited my Dad for a week, I would have the pleasure of enjoying three different diners. One of them was the Lake Grove Diner. The Lake Grove Diner is located at the crossroads of NY Route 347 and Hallock Drive in the shadows of the Smith Haven Mall and the State University of New York (SUNY). Going back to 1976 when I was about to start Kindergarten this location was always a diner. It was known as the Tanglewood Diner. So, in addition to sufficient quantities of very good food, I had a taste of nostalgia. My dad will tell me, "The thing that I love about diners is that you can get anything you want no matter what time of the day." Hence in the late afternoon, he ordered a B.L.T., on a toasted bagel with mashed potatoes. If he was a Yelper, he'd say it was very good. In similar fashion to the lions share of Long Island diners, they have an electic menu. I knew what I wanted. That was eggplant parmigiana. Ever since I ordered the eggplant parmigiana at the late Royal Oak Diner in Bell port, NY, I have never been let down by eggplant parmigiana in a diner. The eggplant parmigiana with spaghetti costs $23.99. It included bread with butter and soup or salad. I ordered Manhattan Clam Chowder Soup. The abundance of eggplant parmigiana topped off with cheese and sauce with spaghetti was delicious with a capital "D." There was such an abundance of food that I ate the spaghetti in the diner then warmed the eggplant parmigiana as a second meal later on. With the meal, I enjoyed soda. A positive change in the diner experience since the 1980s is that the soda is bottomless. Back in the day you'd have to pay for each refill. Following the meal, I drank a delectable cup of coffee. The Lake Grove Diner has the ambiance of a modern diner. It has been remodeled throughout the decades. Long gone is the ambiance of the jukebox by the table. My table overlooked P.C. Richard's & Son. I was satisfied with the service. Our waiter was professional and on the eight ball with service. If I still lived in Long Island, I could see return visits to the Lake Grove Diner. Even with inflation, they serve a substantial selection of very good food in abundant portions within the upbeat environment of a diner. Considering that this diner has been standing as far back as 1976 when I was watching "Sesame Street," it is evidence of a four star restaurant. read more

I have been coming here since I was a kid and it was Tanglewood Diner and my parents would take me out to eat and make me "coffee milk" (two spoons of coffee in a glass of milk and a tea spoon of sugar.) to go with my burger. The food is always reliable, decent, diner food, and the service staff is excellent. It's always crowded as there is nothing this area loves more than a diner. I know I am going to get a good meal when I come here. I do wish from the bottom of heart they'd put something else on the TV besides FOX news or any news for that matter. People don't need to be upset or have politics thrust at them during dinner. Perhaps sport or cartoons or something less stomach churning than cable news would be a nice change. The menu has so many options, including Friday night specials. There really is something for everyone. I was in the mood for breakfast. I had two scrambled eggs with sausage and home fries. It was good and filling. My friend had Oreo pancakes. It came with three huge pancakes that were filled with Oreos. He enjoyed it. My other friend ordered clam chowder, munchie combo and a bacon cheese burger. He enjoyed everything. He did mention the soup wasn't that hot though. My first time here was such a pleasure thanks to our waitress Red. What a warm and friendly person as well as attentive to our needs. After being overwhelmed by the menu, I settled on the lunch special shrimp salad over spinach with added avocado and friend ordered the crab stuffed chicken. She chose mashed potatoes and escarole along with lentil soup. The bread basket with warm challah rolls, Melba toast and sesame sticks. Wow! Being from California, I am not accustomed to diner menus, portions and prices. Love, love, love it! My friend took one spoonful of her soup and said it was too salty and the Greek salad came as a replacement. She did really enjoy her chicken either and preferred my salad. Let me just say that my friend almost always has an issue with the food. It's just how she is unfortunately. My salad was perfect because it's easy to order a meal that isn't the most healthy. I so wanted onion rings but resisted! The size of the shrimps were impressed. Not like Bay shrimp that you typically get in Cali. Plenty of spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers and a slice of honeydew melon. I requested the addition of the avocado. I chose the Greek salad dressing but I bet thousand island would have been good too. There was plenty left for another meal tomorrow. The menu is extensive like most diners, and includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. Food comes pretty quickly and service is good. They even top off your coffee! We frequent the Lake Grove Diner on Fridays with our neighbors. It was Valentine's Day and very crowded. The food was it's usual quality and we ask for boxes to bring home our leftovers. We also needed.2 cups for 'au jus'. The waitress brings two boxes to the table and has the cups in her hand. While holding them she goes two tables over to speak to them. She then drops the cups and lids on the floor. She picks the up and thinking we didn't see brings them over to our table. We said we'd like new ones because you dropped those. She said, 'Oh, of course." She went to the back and brought out two cups and lids. (I wouldn't be surprised if they were the same cups.) I'm so disappointed in The LGD. Bad form!! read more

I have no idea why there are only two dollar signs signifying how expensive this diner is because I think after after reading the menu the states there is forced fee on breakfasts that contain eggs, the expense rating of 3 if not 4 dollar signs. And some menus state the fee while others do not... the manager also said that new menus would be coming with the fee added in... I realize that a while back eggs were expensive, but now? I don't think so and how do you force a patron to pay per egg when your omelettes and platter are three eggs? Not only that, you are charged tax on the fee for the eggs and.... Your suggested tips are based on tax and an extra fee for the eggs... it may not be a lot of extra for certain people, but for a table of 6 getting omelettes it's way too much. Also, once we asked to see a manger who stated egg prices have stayed the same from vendors for diners, because one menu had the heads up about the fee and another did not, the waitress gave us our food and didn't come back until we were done and gave us a check. People really should be aware that anyone can use the internet to verify a statement. We did it's attached to this review. Stopped by to the Lake Grove diner earlier today for the first time and I was a little upset by how our night went. Sorry that I couldn't provide any sort of actual feed regarding the food I ordered today because I didn't take any photos unfortunately. We started off with the steak quesadillas. Steak was actually really good and especially when our kind waitress apologized for the food taking a little bit longer. For our mains, I ordered a double cheeseburger with extra turkey bacon. Unfortunately, our waitress made a mistake on giving me 2 double cheeseburgers with extra turkey bacon, I only needed 1 burger but listened it's okay because her service was still good. My friend ordered the stack of pancakes and was supposed to get blueberries with the order but never received them. Still, it's okay, it happens but you can't forget the syrup that came with it. The ambiance was like no other diner I've been to and it brought me back to the early 80s. Maybe I'll have a better experience next time. Thank you for a great dinner. read more

I had an excellent experience at this establishment! Our waitress was wonderful! She was very attentive and gave great recommendations on the food. We started off with the Bone In Buffalo Chicken Wings, which were great! The skin was very crispy, the meat fell right off the bone, and the buffalo flavoring wasn't too overpowering. For our entree we got two bacon cheeseburgers and they were absolutely delicious. The meat tasted so fresh and well seasoned and the fries were very crispy. Their coffee is refreshing and tasted great as well. And their soft drinks were also great tasting; Very crisp and bubbly! The environment is so nice and relaxing. But we have one gripe: In the middle of a political season, the televisions are tuned to Fox News, which carries endless quotes from the Trump campaign and other right-wingers about the dangers of immigrants. Most of the people working on the wait staff originated in other countries. They work hard, and they are hurting no one. They work so hard, in fact, that it's unlikely they pay any attention to the anti-immigrant propaganda emanating from Faux News. In this case, spinach and cheese, which made the omelette $24!!! The turkey panini tasted funny -- like, something in it was rancid. It's been awhile since I was here as a customer. I go there to pick up delivery orders, sometimes. I work with Doordash, Grubhub, and UberEats (Postmates is combined with UE). I was here as a customer last year (2021). I felt like having a meal at this diner. Because, why not? Anyway, so I went in, and I wasn't greeted very politely by the young woman at the front. She gave me a very cold look when I said hello to her. I eventually got my seat. I was greeted by a waitress who came off as passive-aggressive. Very snappy, persnickety young woman. I didn't even feel more comfortable. If anything, I was less comfortable. I told her my order. She still came off as passive-aggressive. She didn't seem like the worst, but she couldn't be trusted 100%. Rude woman! Anyway, I waited for my order. If I remember correctly, I got my order soon after. Ate a little. Wasn't the best. I had a steak with broccoli, I believe. I eventually felt deeply disturbed by my earlier encounter with that woman at the front. I got up from my table. I went over to her. And I was very firm with her. I warned her that if she is nasty with me one more time, I would leave the restaurant. I then went back to my table. She didn't have an ounce of care about her. She had to suck up to her manager and have a backup plan against me; which, unfortunately, worked. The manager came to my table, afterwards. He came off as polite. He wanted to ask me what was going on. To the best of my ability, I told him my experience with the girl at the front. His BS excuse to me was that she was "shy". I'VE SEEN PLENTY OF SHY PEOPLE BE NICE TO OTHERS, EVEN IF THEY DON'T SAY MUCH!!!!!! IT WAS ABSOLUTE BS!!! I then told the manager if she could get some proper training. He said no, basically. Then, if I remember correctly, he left my table; making me feel even MORE uncomfortable. He was a wolf in sheep's clothing! Eventually, the passive-aggressive waitress came back. I got her attention. I asked her if she was on her best behavior. She didn't answer my question, the brat. Then, she said she'll get someone for me to talk to. NEVER. CAME. WHATSOEVER. I eventually had enough. I got up. Left what was left in my plate, and stormed off to the counter. The manager asked if everything was okay, basically. And, I said that it was (just to white-lie for less problems) okay and I went to pay at the front. I dealt with a older man this time. He and I didn't exchange one word. I paid. Left a $0 tip and wrote "Horrible service" (with an angry face, if I remember correctly; well, even if I didn't the emotion says it all). Then, I left the restaurant. I purchased a panini with BBQ chicken, red peppers and cheese, which came with fries and coleslaw. The meal was good. The waffle fries are the star in my book but for me, that's a given whenever I'm offers waffle fries. The panini was pretty large and filling. I thought it would be a healthy meal but it felt really indulgent and I was left feeling pretty bloated. The panini did taste pretty good but nothing special.
