You heard it before "shop local, buy local". Well I had rented storage space at a mainland company and my experience there was not good. The staff is very impersonal and they had several rent increases even though I was a long time customer. Since a lot of new storage facilities came up, I visited several and was most impressed with Benji. She has the Aloha spirit and having been in retail, I know what service is all about and she is professional. Unfortunately my new home has more space and I had to move my things out of storage but the staff still gave me the best service. I definitely recommend their location for your storage needs. If you are looking for a storage place, look no more. This is the place you would want to be at. The people are very nice, friendly, and helpful (Benjy, Teri, Angel, Tanner) ... truly embodies what aloha means. Their Manager Benjy is EXCELLENT one of the best that I have worked with for as long as I can remember, and just a pleasure to work with. They all make you feel so welcome. I guess that is why all their staff are good ... they have a good leader. The facility is clean, 24 hour access, security excellent with cameras on all the hallways. As if that was not enough, they also have yummy shortbread cookies (I was told the owner's mom makes them herself), coffee, and water in their office as well. WOW. Initially, we were so stressed as the storage place we had booked (some big mainland chain storage company) flaked out on us. Who knew they would do that! It is a big mainland company, as opposed to Hawaii Self Storage, a locally owned, kamaaina company that also gets very involved in helping the community. One day, after we moved in, I did not lock my unit properly. Within a few days, Tanner calls me to let me know! Very nice and impressive ... they monitor the units to check to make sure everything is okay. They care about you. After we decided on using this storage, we also needed help with movers. Angel and Teri recommended Benjy who also manages Hawaii Moving Services. I initially worked with Benjy to get quotes and information. She is EXCELLENT and very easy to work with. Excellent customer service skills. She was able to help me determine the size I needed and very flexible to make sure we got what we needed. After speaking with Benjy, I just knew we were in good hands. She looks out for you and is very honest (rare to find nowadays), and just a pleasure to work with. She did everything she could to help me and literally took all the stress on planning this move away. I am so thankful to Angel and Teri with Hawaii Self Storage as they recommended Benjy and Hawaii Moving Services to us. On the actual day of the move, Nick, the supervisor, along with his staff Sefo, Stili, and Leon were awesome. I am so happy with them. Moving can be so stressful but having them to help you takes the load off big time. Their price is reasonable and most of all they are a local company that truly embodies what Aloha means. I went to Hawaii Self Storage in Kaimuki when I suddenly discovered that all of my stuff would not fit in another storage facility. I called them and found out that they had available space (in fact, I could have reserved space a month ahead); then they picked up my leftover items from the other facility, moved them to their place, and later at my request they took what was already stored at the first storage facility over to their facility. All was done seamlessly, professionally, and cheerfully. I wish I had found them earlier. Their storage units are clean, air-conditioned, and secure. They also offer moving services with guys who are knowledgeable and skillful. I had not realized before that it really does matter who moves your stuff. After watching these movers and comparing them to the movers who moved my items into the first storage facility, I know now that the best movers are both careful and efficient at the same time. The office staff at this place is also amazing. They explain everything clearly to people who don't know much about storage and moving. They make things easier rather than more stressful. I won't need storage for very long but I will definitely use these people when I move my things out of storage and if I ever need storage in the future they are the people I will look to again. read more

The staff has been very helpful every time we've needed anything, the spaces are clean, air conditioned and love the way they have "street" signs. The entry code system also works great, both for the gates and the elevators. The only reason our rating isn't 5 stars, is it could use more parking spaces for "regular" folks vs handicapped stalls. read more

I had rented a storage space at Hawaii Self Storage on 2909 Waialae Avenue in Honolulu for 48 days. From the moment that I contacted on the phone about the fee & the access hour, this lady Benjy who had answered the phone was super nice. It is because Benjy had explained everything about the storage rental very well & politely, I have decided to rent a storage space from them. I truly believe it is because of Benjy, their work atmosphere is super great at Front Customer Service & Security Dept. During my rental period of 48 days, I had spoken to Benjy (Front Customer Service Desk) & Oliver (Security Guard Officer). They were super helpful, polite and kind from the beginning of my rental period to the end. On the last day (48th day), Teri (Front Customer Service) helped me because Benjy was helping other customers. Teri was also very nice :) This storage is clean, 24/7 access, security cameras are everywhere and the security patrol is 24/7. I highly recommend this storage company on 2909 Waialae Avenue if you need one. The employees at the Kaimuki Hawaii Self Storage are not only extremely helpful, but they also go out of their way to accomodate your needs. When moving, they sent a moving truck at no cost and their driver not only arrived on time, but was also very helpful. He was very patient and helped alleviate our stress of moving all our furniture and boxes by guiding us through the process of packing and storage of our possessions. Two of their employees, Joe and Taira, were also very helpful throughout the process of obtaining our storage unit. Taira walked me through all the details of my rental and was very patient throughout the process of filing out my rental agreement; it was much easier than I thought it would be and took only a few minutes. On a side note, more than a month later, both Joe and Taira remember me by name when I go to my storage unit. The entire team at Hawaii Self Storage are very helpful and patient. I found the team at Waialae to be very friendly and helpful, and the facility to be clean and convenient, but my review pertains to the moving services. I've used them twice for small-ish moves and Fran and Mike and their team make everything so easy! I really appreciate that they will do 1-hour moves (most everyone else does a 2-3 hour minimum) and the guys are very professional. My last move included an extremely heavy item which another moving company had attempted to move earlier (that company sent insufficient people even though I told them about the item). The HI Self Storage team handled it without a problem. They will be my go-to from now on. read more

The prices are high and the gouging of customers differ from location to location. No price will be the same for the square footage and they will defer your questions. Do not do business here. Hawaii Self Storage exceeds my expectations of what a storage facility is. It is air-conditioned, clean, and very secure. The only people who have access to your floor are those that are on your floor. The staff is very friendly! I met them once and they each know my name and greet me every time I go in. There is a meeting room for businesses that have storage units to utilize for meetings. Our unit is on the basement level and I use a portable hotspot for internet and it catches great! These people are shady. They asked me repeatedly what I was storing, after I already bought & paid for my 10'x10', which was so odd because I did not have anything unusual. I came to my unit one day to find glow-sticks on the floor. It appears as though they used a ladder (there is just secured open-grate wall above the pull-down door for unit, FYI), then they dropped the glow sticks in my 10"x10' unit to see what was in there. Creepy. What a disgusting invasion of privacy. When I brought the glow sticks to their front desk infuriated they denied any knowledge and said "that's never happened before"; I threatened to call the police, then their response was, "was there something stolen?". Shady & Gross. The main money-maker for is their auctions if you ever cannot pay your monthly, so I imagine they wanted to see what was in my unit in hopes they'd obtain it somehow. I moved my stuff out asap. Careful if you ever store your stuff & try to give someone you trust access, if possible. Be Smart. read more

Don't rent from these crooks. They have a deceptive business practice of requiring a written 30 day notice from the tenant (spouses don't count as part of their deception). But the written and signed notice, along with personally vacating the unit early and telling them in person during office hours will still get you charged an additional THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! This is because they wait an extra two weeks to tell you that the signed tenant has to ALSO respond to their phone message, too. But they can't possibly tell you in the message that if you don't call them back you are still being charged for the overpriced unit daily... Even though you provided them the written and signed 30 day note saying you will be vacated. Even though you showed up in person during office hours to also inform them that you have vacated the unit early. They keep their deceptive traps shut and wait 10 to 14 days. Then they suddenly have the ability to actually call you and tell you on the phone you "did it wrong" and did not return their messageless phone call so they are still billing you!!! When confronted about their deception, they hide behind a "privacy" policy that is utter bull to cover up this money-making scheme they have going. Just think about it, they collect money for their overpriced units even when you are vacated. That's like renting the unit out to two people at the same time. How lucrative! This shady operation should have their books opened to see how many "tenants" have had this done to them while trying to exit their system. And don't believe the 24 access bull. Their computer system denied us access after hours several times because as they called it "computer glitches". read more

Hawaii Self Storage refused to pick up my stuff from my UH campus because I left a week before the end of the semester and then refused to drop it off because they had not picked it up. Furthermore, they "screwed up" and gave me a storage unit bigger than the one I asked for so I ended up getting charged extra. They are very shady, and their staff is unhelpful and at times rude.
