I've always gotten their chicken meals so wanted to try the beef this time. If you're looking for softer meat I wouldn't recommend the beefs since they're always going to be hard since it's harder to cook the meat soft. I had the bbq mix and ALL of the meats were banging that I got.. bbq chicken, beef and short ribs. My wife got like this pulled pork and cabbage dish. I will say the cabbage was weak and lacked flavor. Luckily the pork wasn't bad but needed a sauce. The macaroni salad was some watered down mayo'y type concoction, and honestly will just get double rice instead next time. Yes, next time, as in I really enjoyed the bbq.. A LOT. I've given some other dishes a try and my opinion is about the same. The chicken combo is loaded with chicken. Katsu was fresh and juicy, but there was a lot of breading and less chicken on my pieces. I liked the teriyaki chicken better in this meal. I've never had authentic kahlua pork from Hawaii so I don't know if I can give a judgment on that end. The pork came with a lot of liquid/juice, but the meat itself was kinda dry. I also would've appreciated more cabbage to be included. The fries were run of the mill. I probably wouldn't get them again. read more

It's been less than a week and I've been here 2x with my friends!!! Definitely recommending this spot to all my friends because of the great food and the friendly staff. I got the short rib/bbq beef combo my first visit and I was too busy demolishing the food before thinking about taking a picture. And this most recent visit my gf and I tried their Spam/bbq chicken musubi and it was amazing for only $3!!! I can also say that this place has a very cute ambiance and is very clean. When you step into this place don't go in expecting fancy, this is a traditional Hawaiian lunch plate spot. No fuss. The portions are big and plentiful. We started with the Spam Musubi which was as expected but nothing to write home about. Every combo comes with 2 scoops of rice and 2 scoops of traditional Hawaiian mac salad. We got the bbq combo that came with bbq beef, bbq chicken and bbq short ribs all 3 well seasoned, I was worried the beef would be salty or dry and it was not. We had the coconut shrimp, which were crispy and tasty but nothing different from any other coconut shrimp we've had. Last we had a mini plate (one scoop of the sides) of kalua pork which was a little salty but was tamped down by the rice. The ordering process was a little confusing. At each table was a QR code, which brought you to their online ordering site. I was unsure if we ordered at the counter or through the website. As for the food I ordered a spam misubi and the loco moco. The Spam misubi was on point and hit the spot but the loco moco was a bit underwhelming. For me , it was under seasoned and borderline just meh to ok . If you're looking for something to try; go right ahead if it's you're first time . Here on a sat after lunch time and pretty busy, got the food to go. The combo meats are pretty good and tasty on the BBQ mixed. The Loco Moco was so so for my taste the hamburger patty was ok with the sauce don't think we would get that again will ask if they can just add eggs on the BBQ mix next time Rice a little bit undercooked, macaroni salad is pretty good average. The BBQ short ribs are literally the best I've ever had in my life, as is the spam musubi and chicken katsu! I will preface and say that I've never had Hawaiian food. This place is awesome. We ordered for take out and got the BBQ Mixed Platter, BBQ Beef Platter, Khalua Pork, and Spam Masubi. Everything came out great. So flavorful. The base is teriyaki so you must like that for the BBQ to appeal to you. And oh boy... the mac salad. Highly recommend you get the two scoops of Mac salad with one scoop of rice. We loved it. The portions were enormous. I was pleasantly surprised considering inflation - I wasn't expecting nearly half that much meat. The service was fast. They even warned us that the pork was a little juicy. It's a cute little store. For the West Coasters (and NY'ers) who are in love with L&L BBQ like I am, I finally found a place on the East Coast that can compete with it! The BBQ Chicken had a mix of white meat and dark meat with the PERFECT amount of sear! It wasn't overly sweet or salty and its gentle savoriness and (very slight smokiness) complemented the Hawaiian macaroni salad (which isn't doused in mayo like most iterations of it are). Chicken Katsu was extremely crispy/fresh and is the ideal food for an ASMR-Mukbang video, with a punchy and tangy Worcestershire flavor in their Tonkatsu sauce. The BBQ Chicken entree was a very generous portion - I don't lift but it's the ideal post-workout meal, with all that protein. read more

The restaurant is small, with very minimal decoration. A row of five lamps hangs from the ceiling while a couple of framed pictures hang from the rightmost wall. The ordering counter is located near the back and tables populate the rest of the restaurant space. The tables along the leftmost wall are all "partial booth" seats while the rest of the tables have regular chairs. Daughter ordered the Salmon Lover signature bowl, which has Alaska salmon, spicy salmon, mango, edamame, cucumber, seaweed salad, avocado, and spicy mayo sauce. She thought it was absolutely delectable. She came in here only to eat spam and was pleasantly surprised to see poke on the menu. Hubs ordered the Loco Moco, which has hamburger patties topped with a fried egg and covered in their homemade sauce. He said that for an iconic dish, this was relatively banal. He's glad that he tried it but he said he'll steal the poke from our daughter in the future. He thought it was a boring dish. Lastly I ordered the Saimin noodles, which were egg noodles tossed in their homemade style broth. I had a choice of grill spam, bbq chicken or bbq beef and ordered the chicken. It tasted like an Americanized version of Chinese soup and noodles. It was good but boring. We also ordered the musubi and daughter loved it a lot . The last time she had it was in California and she says that the one here is bigger. Service was friendly and quick but they're slow on emptying their garbage. Spam and chicken musubis were very tasty, my first time trying chicken (with bbq/teriyaki sauce) and I think it's my fav of the 2, but spam is king, so you can't go wrong with either. Main dishes were the mini meals - one bbq beef ribs (brown rice, no Mac salad) and the Kahlua pork with cabbage. We went here last night and the food was delicious. We had the Hawaiian poke bowl, Short rib with rice & macaroni salad, and Saimin bbq beef. All meals were fresh and flavorful. The poke bowl is the best I have had in the Edison area and worth trying. The other dishes were first times for us, but it was unanimous we are going back. It's not the best Hawaiian food, more like a fast food version of the local classics. However, where else in the area can you get plate lunch, loco moco, spam musubi, etc? Nowhere. Yes there are local poke places, but they're all trash. The bbq chicken is definitely the best. The bbq beef and short rib were on the chewy side. The Hawaiian Mac salad is a very good analogue of the stuff you get on the island. There are no "Hawaiian sun" beverages in the drink cooler.
