    Poke Bowl (3 Proteins)
    Kim Y.

Since moving to New Jersey, Ciao Poke has become our go-to spot for fresh, flavorful poke bowls -- and for good reason. It's one of the few places that captures that same quality and balance we used to love at our favorite poke spots in the city. The ingredients are consistently fresh, from the sashimi-grade fish to the vibrant toppings and sauces that tie everything together. One of the hardest to find in New Jersey poke stores is kani salad as a topping. Here, the kani salad isn't counted as an extra protein, but rather as a topping -- a small detail that makes a big difference and shows how thoughtfully the menu is designed. We also love that they offer unique protein options like white tuna and yellowtail, which are rare finds at many poke places. Located in a busy mall shared with H Mart and Island Spa, it's perfectly convenient for grabbing a quick lunch or an easy dinner while running errands. Whether you're a poke enthusiast or just craving something light and fresh, Ciao Poke delivers every time.

Ciao Poke has been my go-to poke place for about a year because of it's great quality and price but in my most recent delivery order I asked if they could set aside a piece of my salmon for my cat recovering from surgery and they delivered!! She absolutely loved the salmon :)

It's remarkable that I could be as excited for a poke bowl as when I was first introduced to it 8 years ago. Over the years, the novelty factor has worn off, prices gone up, and the ingredients dwindled. I didn't stop by Ciao Poke with high hopes and I was wrong. Ciao Poke rebooted the ingredients list and added more. I saw double the normal choices for proteins, and I was so happy to see lotus chips which was removed from my go-to poke joint years ago. I was also delighted to see, for the first time, Furikake for crunches, Oshinko for mix-ins, and both Kani and Hijiki salads in addition to the normal seaweed salad for toppings. The interior area is also an upgrade to my traditional poke joint experience. It's not takeout only or small ad hoc eating area, but a spacious trendy dining space. Lastly, the size of the bowl is also among the largest I have seen, and for a very seasonable price of $13.50. Yes, I will be back!!!

A nice casual spot to go to for a quick meal. The interior is very modern, with a nice and cute seating area. The parking is very limited - you may have better luck parking at H-mart across the parking lot. I love that they have unlimited toppings and sauces for your poke bowl, and even an option with black rice as your base. Quality control is not the best - the miso was extra salty when I had it and typically, they mix the protein in your choice of sauce separately, but did not do it this time. Overall, I would recommend this place for a quick meal, but their fish and toppings taste pretty average.

Clean and shared space with mango mango. I like how they give you a free cup of miso soup. The available proteins are more than basic, beyond fresh tuna, fresh salmon, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, shrimp, tofu, and chicken. You have to pay extra for avocado though. Toppings are unlimited and you can get as many as you want. I love the zucchini noodles option, and I think it is uncommon for poke places to have this. It was very filling, and I ate it so quickly because of how delicious and fresh it was.

It was a Sunday evening. One table was dining-in. Our friends were first in line and they ordered the tuna bowls from the signature category. The staff didn't make their bowl and they had to wait half an hour because there was another party of five on the line that ordered create your own bowl. I ended up helping my friend by waving the staff her attention since she is the only one making the bowls for the other party. There was another guy in the kitchen prepping and cutting the salmon, then went back to the kitchen. There's no team work and understaff. The young lady apologized and said that she is new. She did fixed the issue by giving our friends drinks. Luckily, there wasn't any additional people walking in, so she finally made my friends order. It's not fair that my friends who was first in line didn't get their food. They had to wait for everyone else who ordered "create your own bowls". The owner should make sure their staff is trained well enough. The food was average.

Ambiance: (5/5) Nice restaurant. I didn't sit to eat. Price: (4/5) Prices seem average for the area. Food: (4/5) I enjoyed the rice bowl I got. I chose white rice but would like to try black rice as well. You can get 2 or 3 proteins and then whatever toppings you want. The sauce options are also great. Service: (5/5) Service is great!

A new restaurant located in the ever so busy hmart complex. We love poke so we were eager to try this out. They are similar to other poke places where you can build your own bowl or just order one of their signature bowls. I opted for the signature salmon bowl. At first glance, the bowl was packed with items. But once I started eating, I noticed there really wasn't much salmon. The pieces were very small and there was way more rice than needed. My husband's order was the same in regards to his tuna. The price for the signature bowl, $13.50, was the same price as a build your own bowl with 2 proteins yet we feel like we should have received 2 portions of the protein although it was the same protein. That was our one and only gripe. I would go with the build you own bowl next time and pass on the signature bowls. The interior is nicely decorated and very clean. Parking is an issue on weekends and Friday nights.

My rice bowl compared to my husband. He got more toppings but u can see the fish pieces.

This place recently opened next to the Hmart and Kura plaza in Edison. Walking in the place looks super clean and has a very modern vibe. It's connected to Mango Mango from the back part of the shop. There's plenty of seating. Today I came after work and I was greeted with a smile as we ordered our rice bowls. I requested my two proteins, the worker put one of my proteins out in a plastic bowl and was stingy with the pieces. He practically gave me like 5 pieces of fish. Compared to my husband who had a female worker and she did a great job and gave him a decent amount of fish and rice. I hope the owner sees this and knows that being cheap with the fish will only drive the clients away.. I did see someone else mentioned this on their yelp review. Instead of using an extra plastic bowl to mix, use that money to supply more fish or retrain the staff and let them know that this only pushes people away. All in all I would come back and re-do my review only if I can get a decent amount of fish on my bowl. The food is good and I was very happy with the free miso soup that we got.

We were able to build our own poke bowls with 2 protein options, unlimited toppings & sauces. Came with free miso soup. About $14 per bowl. They pack the bowls very nicely. Portion of food is a lot which is awesome for the price! Very clean. Modern. Earth tones. Nice vibe. Quick & great service.

This poke place just opened up in the HMart plaza, next to Kura and Lua. The interior looks clean and the decor is very modern and relaxing. As with other poke places, you choose what you want in your bowl/burrito and go down the line of toppings. There's a large variety of toppings to choose from, which feature items that I don't usually see at a poke place, such as white tuna, yellowtail, beets, hijiki, and shiitake mushrooms. The service is fast and friendly. I ordered a bowl with tuna and salmon, which comes with a cup of miso soup. The poke/fish portion was pretty small imo, but that's just what's standard at these poke places ;-; the bowl is pretty much a salad with some poke in it. I got the classic poke sauce and with the toppings, I'd say it was pretty flavorful, so it beats some other places in that regard.

Ever since my friend and I first saw that the Hmart plaza was getting a poke bowl spot, we were dying to check it out. We finally got the chance to visit tonight and try the food. We went around 8:30 and had the place to ourselves. Right off the bat, I was very impressed by how clean the store was. There's plenty of seating and the interior is quite aesthetic. There are bathrooms at the back of the store, where it connects to Mango Mango (something to take note of if you want to get dessert after). There weren't any kiosks, so you had to order at the front (as an introvert this scared me a lot). I customized my bowl and it's similar to how you order at Chipotle -- you pick a base, protein, toppings, sauce, and you get free miso soup (which was a bit salty but I won't complain about free food!). I also really liked how they had clear labels for all the ingredients, which made it super easy to order. Our food was not bad. I liked how we can customize our bowl and get a variety of different flavors, but I felt the balance of rice to fish to toppings was off. There was too much rice and not enough protein or sauce for my personal taste so it ended up a little bland in some bites (I also had a lot of rice left over). Overall though, I really enjoyed the visit and recommend you try this spot out for yourself.

Would I recommend it? Yes. Is it worth seeing once? Also yes. It has that big, theatrical, old-school deli energy where the portions are part of the show. That said, I'm not in the camp that every good restaurant is automatically a five-star spot. When everything is a five, it gets harder to separate the truly elite places, the hometown heroes, and the restaurants worth planning a trip around. Harold's lands for me as a very solid three-point-something, graciously rounded to four because they have a Marine Corps flag hung in reception. The food was good, the portions were whatever you make it, and the whole place has novelty value without feeling like a total gimmick. The sandwiches are large enough to satisfy a hungry, medium-sized guy without completely defeating him. And honestly, on a menu full of meat, my favorite thing may have been the healthy pickled salad/pickle bar situation -- bright, crunchy, and a great counterbalance to the heavier deli classics. My biggest knock was the service atmosphere. There seemed to be an army of staff, but not much interaction beyond their phones. Maybe I caught it at an off time, and maybe the place comes alive when it's packed, but that kept the experience from feeling warmer or more special. Overall: fun stop, good food, convenient location, and worth doing if you're passing through. Memorable four.

If you're in NJ and craving Hong Kong-style wonton noodle soup, head to Wonton Guy in Edison. It's a no-frills local gem tucked away in a tiny strip mall off Route 27, with a few parking spots out front and more in the back. The space is small (only 10 tables!) and nothing fancy, but the value is hard to beat. It's always busy, and after you take your first slurp of the soup, you'll get why. Service is fast, so the tables turn over quickly. I was able to grab a seat when I walked in on a Saturday evening. The menu is simple and offers 3 main options: 1.) noodle soup with toppings 2.) soup with toppings (no noodles) 3.) lo mein with toppings served with soup on the side From there, you pick your noodle type (egg, flat rice, vermicelli), as well as up to 3 toppings (wontons, dumplings, beef brisket, etc.). There are also a few side dishes like shredded pork in chili tomato sauce, deep fried fish skin, and curry fish balls. They even sell some items raw like wontons, noodles, dumplings, and sliced beef. And the best part is... the prices are very affordable! Most of the dishes are around $11-$16. My order: *Two Toppings (wonton + beef brisket) Noodle Soup [$12.75] - Where do I begin? Every single part of this meal SLAPPED. The wontons were MUMBO JUMBO and generously filled with fresh, plump shrimp that were sweet and juicy. The noodles were soft and springy. The beef brisket was SO tender with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. And the broth? Super rich, aromatic, and savory. It's made of shrimp skin, pork bone, dried flounder fish, dried shrimp, and dried monk fruit, but it doesn't taste fishy at all. Each table is stocked with condiments like vinegar, homemade chili oil, and soy sauce to customize your soup. The chili oil packs some SERIOUS HEAT, so watch out. This was hands down one of the best noodle soups I've had. I was sad when I finished it :-( *Hong Kong-style Milk Tea [$6] - I really enjoyed this! The black tea was bold and strong--almost too strong for me, but the milk balanced it out nicely. I only wish it had boba! Everything tasted authentic. Quick backstory: The owner comes from a family with GENERATIONS of experience making wontons and running noodle shops in Hong Kong. He grew up there and brought those family traditions to his own restaurants in Toronto... and now Edison. All those years of experience clearly show in his food. The broth is simmered overnight, and the wontons are freshly prepared every morning. No shortcuts here--just decades of tradition, skill, and a whole lot of love in every bowl. Ugh, I wish I lived closer because I'd be a regular. It's hard these days to find a place that REALLLLLLY delivers a memorable meal that's both tasty, reasonably priced, and served in generous portions. If you're within driving distance and debating whether it's worth the trip--DON'T! Wonton Guy is absolutely worth a visit, even if it's just once. I drove an hour to try it, and I still think about those wontons all the time... no joke LOL.
