TLDR - I will definitely return. Small menu, good food, friendly staff, clean dining area. First time to Hawaiian Bros and I'll definitely be back. Four of us had different meals and all were good. Mac salad is on point and the chicken was delicious in the three different varieties we tried. The Dole Soft Serve, Dole Whip, was a nice treat at the end of our meal. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We arrived right at 5pm on a Sunday and had no problem getting our food in a timely manner. This place is new. They're just figuring things out. So, some of the processes are a bit rough. They're expecting people to order using touchscreens along a side wall. Aside from being difficult to see and lacking signage, I find this ungracious. But the food is typical for fast-food "Hawaiian teriyaki" cuisine. I had the Honolulu chicken which is their garlic teriyaki chicken. It's not overly garlicky. The meat is properly cooked, not mushy. The rice is similarly proper. The parking lot is plenty big. The dining room is sparkling-clean and well lit. BUT, they have absolutely the most uncomfortable chairs. Seriously, these chairs were obviously designed by a chiropractor hoping to drum up business. Informal Hawaiian meals just about always include macaroni salad. Hawaiians just love the stuff. And the meal plate here at Hawaiian Bros includes the obligatory mac salad. And I'm sorry, but I don't care for Hawaiian Bros version of it. Traditional Hawaiian mac salad is absolutely bland; it's pasta cooked in unseasoned water covered in the blandest mayonnaise available. Hawaiian Bros has made an unauthorized addition; I think it might include cheap Parmesan cheese. Whatever it is, I don't care for it. Others might disagree with me. The meal size is great for the price. Even leaving most of the mac salad behind, their regular plate is plenty. And plenty of chicken. This place is across from Burgerville, just off of 99W at the light with North Elliott, so it's easily accessible from either direction on 99W. There's lots of parking. Handicap access looks good. Chicken is the thing here and vegetarian options are limited. Vegans will have to make up their own minds, but I wouldn't trust it. Teriyaki sauces generally do have a bit of gluten in them, so gluten intolerant people should be cautious. This place is kid/family friendly, but they don't have a kid's menu. The ambience is elevated-fast-food definitely casual. All cutlery, cups, plates, etc. are non-recyclable plastic. We in Oregon don't like to see this. The parking includes three Blink EV charging stations. My conclusion is that this place is reasonably priced for a quick and yet delicious lunch or dinner. read more

I had no issues with the food itself. I stopped by to get my son a Dole Whip, and that part of the visit went smoothly. However, what happened at the drive-thru window was completely unacceptable. When we pulled up to the window, the employee gave us our total. I handed my iPhone to my mom so she could use Apple Pay. I looked away for literally 2-3 seconds, and when I looked back, the employee had my phone in her hands and was tapping it to complete the payment. At no point did she ask for permission or tell me she was going to take my phone--she simply grabbed it. No employee, especially one handling food, should ever take a customer's personal phone without asking first. Customers have no way of knowing what their device is being tapped against or what is happening with it. If your payment system requires the customer to tap their phone, the card reader should be extended out the window so the customer can complete the transaction themselves. Beyond the privacy concern, there's also the issue of liability. If an employee takes a customer's phone and accidentally drops it or damages it, the business could end up being responsible for repairing or replacing it because the employee took possession of someone else's personal property. That's an unnecessary risk that could easily be avoided by letting customers tap their own devices. To make matters worse, as we drove away, the employee slammed the drive-thru window so hard that it sounded like it came off its track. It felt unnecessarily aggressive and left an even worse impression after an already uncomfortable interaction. This happened on 7/27/26 at 7:39 PM. Unfortunately, the receipt doesn't list the employee's name, but she had tattoos on her arm. This experience made me very uncomfortable, and I won't be returning. I hope management addresses this with the employee and updates their payment process so no other customer has their personal property taken without permission. Respecting customers' belongings and treating them with courtesy should be a basic expectation. read more

They place a bunch of rice under the meat so it looks like there is more, so they don't have to give you much meat. And that's what I came for. Being from the islands, I'm very critical of places that try to represent my home. We were passing by, saw the big Hawaiian Bros sign, and decided to give it a try. One thing that immediately stood out to me was the name itself. If you're from Hawaii, you know most businesses from back home usually do not start with "Hawaiian" unless it directly relates to Native Hawaiian identity or culture. I'm not trying to hate on the name, but personally, it feels a little disrespectful to our Hawaiian brothers and sisters. I could go on about that, but I'll leave it there. This is my raw and honest opinion. Starting with the positives, the place looked inviting, had plenty of parking, and the inside was clean with nice decor. Honestly, those were the only real positives for me. Now for the reality of it. This place feels more like a gimmick aimed at people who have never actually been to Hawaii and are drawn in by the name. The service was meh. The employee helping us did not seem like she wanted to be there. The menu was very bland. Most of the items were basically variations of chicken teriyaki. My biggest issue was seeing Huli Huli Chicken on the menu when there was no smell, flavor, or preparation that resembled actual Huli Huli chicken. IYKYK! Just putting teriyaki sauce on chicken does not automatically make it Hawaiian food. We almost walked out after reading the menu, but I wanted to give the place a fair shot since I had never heard of this chain before. The pricing was also wild. Around $20 for a full plate felt way too expensive for what you get. Maybe I'm being extra critical, but it definitely did not match the quality. As for the taste, all I can really say is that it was edible. The mac salad was probably the worst I've ever had, the rice was dry, and the chicken reminded me of Jack in the Box chicken teriyaki without the broccoli. Overall, it was a complete letdown and honestly a little offensive as someone who grew up around real island food. This was a very poor representation of island cuisine, and in my opinion, this establishment completely missed the mark. I would also encourage the owners and leadership team to really do the homework on island culture and local food if they truly want to represent Hawaii in an authentic way. There is so much depth, flavor, history, and heart behind local Hawaiian and island-style cuisine that simply is not reflected in the current menu. Expanding the menu, improving the recipes, and taking inspiration from the real flavors and traditions of the islands would go a long way. My husband and I wanted a quick eat while driving through Newberg and I remembered that Hawaiian Bros recently opened. We shared a mixed plate with the pork and Honolulu chicken, rice and Mac salad, a side of veggies with a small dole whip for dessert. The restaurant was not busy for a Thursday for lunch, plenty of interior seating available. Our food arrived in a short amount of time. Both the chicken and pork were good. The Mac salad was underwhelming, it was little flat and flavorless. The veggies and dole whip were delicious! The establishment is polished, clean and new. In the category of fast food, I'd give it a 4. The facility is immaculate and new. We were greeted with a friendly "Aloha". The music was all island vibes which I liked that it was purposeful. The service was excellent with a friendly and helpful staff that were attentive to all needs. You can order on multiple kiosks or at the counter. The food was quite good I thought for the fast food category. The mac salad was fine but nothing special. But the Luau Pig and the Honolulu Chicken were delicious. The portions are large. We split one and had plenty to eat. We had the mini Dole Whip which was delicious and the perfect treat at the end. I appreciated the attention to detail with everything. First visit. We ordered the mini hulihuli plate. Chicken was tender, but it tasted more like shoyu chicken--but it was delicious--and the Mac salad was salty for me. The dole pineapple was great, and not overly sweet which I appreciate mahaloz I understand that they opened recently, however it would be nice to have other options eg saimin, fried noodles, maybe a teri beef or tonkatsu? Overall good. Friendly service up front and iPad kiosks to do self ordering. "For here" means they don't bag it which I can understand- cuts the dishes to be run in half. I am comparing to (shocking) Roxy's which currently owns the Portland area as far as a Hawaiian chain restaurant. The portions of Mac and rice are less than Roxy's. I do like Roxy's chicken better. The flavor was fine but too firm/tough for me. I am to be fair not making a great comparison as my usual is the shoyu chicken, which is marinated and shredded basically. Friendly customer service helping me order since it was my first time, definitely was a great start to my visit. Place is new and pretty busy when I went at lunch time but I got my order pretty quickly, the spicy chicken was amazing, can't wait to come back and bring the family. My coworkers and I ordered food from here for lunch. We all shared a similar consensus on all of our various orders which was (1) Mac salad was too creamy but flavor otherwise was alright and (2) the flavor of the meat is good! Personally, I liked the Mac salad flavor and did agree that the mayo ratio was a bit much. I ordered the molokai chicken which was saucy and a good portion size. I think that after eating almost the whole thing that it started to feel salty but tolerable. I also got the Dole soft serve twist which was incredible! Not a fan of getting my small scoop of chicken layered on poorly prepared rice, makes it seem like you are getting skimped on the main part of the meal. Especially when you provide a scoop or rice with the meal already . As someone mentions before the macaroni salad is extremely salty. All three other reviews mention the other Hawaiian place in town I'm guessing they are involved over there somehow. The portions are bigger here. The food is fresher. The rice is better. Service is a little confusing. They don't seem to know how to find orders place online versus orders placed at the kiosk. The drive thru seems to be the priority as it moves quickly. Food was good enough for three stars. It doesn't go beyond that. Definitely not on the level of Noho's. It's definitely chain level food. Don't know what they use for chicken but it's mid land at best. They use a sweet sticky rice. Probably a sushi rice. The Mac salad was is salty. Don't know why they add so much salt but that's clearly added salt. Was really looking forward to the spam rice seaweed offering. I know it's named something but I can't remember. It's prepackaged in plastic warmed up and then served in the plastic. Couldn't be more disappointing. Soft non chewable Spam. Very little seaweed actually wrapped around it. A thin strip. Not even a full piece. I just couldn't get by the plastic wrapped plastic heated taste of the rice. We ordered three because we were excited. It was three disappointed customers. Wouldn't order again couldn't recommend with a conscious. Place was full. All tables full with people waiting at the kiosk. It's along the chipotle line of expecting twos and maybe fours. Seating all tightly spaced. More of a chain than I had anticipated. Not terrible but not quite to the good level. A little overpriced for this experience. Not going to recommend. Hello fellow Yelpers: here's the feedback I submitted to the Hawaiian Bros website with no response. TL;DR: don't go. Either save your money or go to Roxy's (a local chain anyway). -------- Have been watching the construction of your new location in Newberg, OR for about a year now. Have been anticipating trying the new restaurant in town. Huge disappointment. I can't argue with the feedback that people have left on Yelp for your Portland location. Experience is similar to my family: way too much salt, way too much sugar, etc. For my particular meal, the Kilauea chicken was over sweet with just a very simple source of spiciness. You might as well just call your teriyaki sauce syrup. I chose veggies instead of the rice ball to try the veggies, and while I could discern that they were likely not frozen, they were only one step removed from what I might reheat in the microwave from frozen at home. Very little seasoning while being watery (likely sitting in a steam bath) and with no other flavor reason to be excited about having those veggies - you're most definitely not going to win over the vegetarians (of whom there are many here) with this offering. Now let's get to the worst part: the macaroni salad. I've never consumed that much mayonnaise in one sitting intentionally in my life. It was disgusting. Underneath that were layers of salt that didn't make sense and indeed even made the macaroni grainy. It was truly disgusting. Go try Roxy's for a half-decent example of Hawaiian fast food macaroni salad. The spam musubi that I ordered had very sticky and greasy packaging, was gray in color, and had just average flavor. It was definitely not worth $3.75. Now, onto your price point: I think it was $13.75 plus an extra dollar for the veggies "upgrade". This is a college town. If you think you're going to attract college students at this price point, you are out of your mind. The locals aren't even going to tolerate this price point for the quantity of food provided. You will never, ever survive with this pricing in this area, especially since there is a Panda Express directly across the street, and McDonald's/Chipotle/MOD/Burger King/Wendy's/Taco Bell right down the street, local chain Burgerville right across the street and a Popeyes that's moving in soon one block away as well. On top of that, you already know that you have a local Oregon chain called Roxy's that so far makes incredibly superior Hawaiian food than what you are currently offering - they're about 1/2 mile from your location and have a well-established reputation as being the locally owned option for HI "comfort food". I don't think these are growing pains because what I experienced matches what I read from other reviews from your other locations. You should know that this area has a reputation for a very discerning palette and high expectations when it comes to food - even fast food. When you're here, take note of all the food carts... I submit to you that you will have to make some very significant changes to make it here in the long-term. Your kiosk, self-service ordering software should also describe on screen the options shown. We had to ask one of the employees what the differences were between your different chicken offerings. Why not put that description right there at the point of sale kiosk? There were cards printed that we found later, proving that other people had similar difficulty understanding your product. This would seem to be fundamental point of sale marketing. Additionally, I firmly do not believe that counter service deserves to be given a tip at this price point. It's an insult to ask for it during the self-service point of sale kiosk experience. One other complaint for your location designers: this is a blue collar town where many people drive full-size pickup trucks. You've designed a parking lot to accommodate only compact cars . In fact, you've even allocated seven parking spaces to electric cars (on the for-fee Blink charging network) which should accommodate pretty much every single electric car in Newberg if they all decided to have a gathering at your establishment. You have completely misread your audience in this town. Sorry to be so harsh, but you will have to make some very significant changes if you expect to survive at this location, long-term. I'd suggest an aggressive coupon campaign to keep your pricing below $10 for your average product sale (with fountain drink). At the very least, this should be a standing offer for the local college students. I suspect any additional changes would greatly benefit your Portland location as I'm guessing it is probably not performing well. read more

Food quality: The first order we received was good, and we were all pleased. I was impressed and thought the taste and texture were great. I had read a bunch of negative reviews, so I was surprised after eating the Honolulu and Huli Huli Chicken dishes because both were solid. However, the last order I picked up was bad enough that I don't think I'll return. I bought the exact same meal as the first time, but some of the chicken was so tough that when I bit into it, it didn't shred at all, felt undercooked. I was pretty bummed and now understand all the negative reviews. Management: Fix the food preparation process and be consistent. The menu is good, but like most restaurants that become inconsistent with food quality, this business will fail, just like Round Table Pizza did at the same site. Maybe the lot's cursed :). The company has clearly made a considerable investment in site development and building construction. If you get your food up to the same level as the development of the site, "they will come." Well, I ended up at this place because being that it's was Easter Sunday today Roxy's was closed and there was no 808 Grinds nearby so I decided to give Hawaiian Brothers Island Grill in Newberg, a try. To my surprise, I was a tad bit disappointed because the only dang thing that they got on the menu as far as protein is a few chicken options and Luau pig (shredded pork). I had teriyaki spam musubi and the Honolulu plate which is savory grilled chicken marinated with fresh garlic, green onions, and sesame with veges (which was my only option) on a bed of rice which I asked for NO rice or Mac Salad. They have no kalbi ribs which is my fav. No side options like slaw or salad unless you buy a whole separate one. No desert like Haupia Pie. Guess, I'm partial to my other two goto's. I was not very impressed but did eat it. Sorry to say, it's my one and done. They do have a side of grilled pineapple for an uncharge. Also, different flavor ice creams which is tasty, like the pineapple soft serve. So, If you like variety, explore. I would recommend you try other spots, even Ate-Oh-Ate in downtown Beaverton is A-okay. But if Hawaiian Brothers is the closest thing to you, and it's your kind of eats then enjoy. read more

This was, without question, the worst "Hawaiian" food I've ever been served. Hawaiian food is supposed to be comforting, flavorful, and satisfying. This meal was none of those things. The chicken had a bizarre texture--spongy, gummy, and packed with gristle. The macaroni salad was overcooked to the point of being mush, with little flavor beyond mayonnaise. Somehow even the rice was crunchy. I was genuinely hungry when I arrived, and the food was so unpleasant that I couldn't finish my plate. That's rare for me. Every component felt low-quality, poorly prepared, or both. Afterward, I looked into the company and learned it's a chain founded in Kansas, not Hawaii. That explained a lot. Rather than tasting like Hawaiian food, it felt like a corporate mainland interpretation of Hawaiian cuisine that borrows the branding without delivering the flavors or quality. Trying a new spot is always hit or miss. They started out by saying "welcome to Burger King" which I just got a chuckle out of at the drive through. We did and online order and accidentally got in the wrong line. The lady on the intercom said "no problem it's the other line, but just pull forward and we will get your order" cheerfully. When we got to the window we were instructed by the lady there in a very rude manner we were instructed the wrong line, and were told, "well next time come through the other line." That aside the pulled pork is amazing, but just for me honestly that was the highlight. The other food was ok, but nothing I'd write home about. Little spend for the quality I thought. The food here is really good and the staff are all extremely helpful and kind. We've been twice and enjoyed the food both times. I think a lot of the negative reviews are coming from people that don't like waiting for the wrinkles of opening a new store to iron out. I'd say my only complaint is that the spiciest food they have isn't spicy at all. This restaurant does not give a true taste of Hawaiian food. It's overly salted and the chicken dishes pretty much taste the same. The mac salad is full of mayo and overly salted as well. The prices are too high for the amount of food you get. The service however is good. In my opinion Roxy's is a much better option and value. read more

Finally visited the place tonight went through the drive thru. I had already picked out my item before I got there, the guy took my order and that part went all pretty good. Then I got home, sat down to eat and things went downhill, ordered the Chicken Kihalea and it was terrible, dry, no real Hawaiian flavor, spicy yes, rice ok and the macaroni salad was lousy(again no flavor or anything), Roxy's Mac salad is the best and has that Island flavor to it. Was very very very dissapointed needless to say, had high expectations, but it didn't happen. At This time cannot recommend the place, we will continue our patronage at Roxy's down the street. To bad for a great new building and food place in Newberg, and not being what we expected. Maybe in a few months we will give it another try. The veggies were good but didn't really care for the Mac salad. I also ordered the kids meal teriyaki chicken and rice and my GrandDaughter loved it.
