What surprised me was "mandatory tip". I was gonna give some tip, but the lady told me "it's mandatory tip, okay?" got me surprised when I tapped my card. My wife wanted to pick up joy teriyaki for dinner after getting her hair did. I looked up the reviews and see the pictures. I told her no and I'll just make chicken teriyaki at home. She was hungry and got some egg rolls to go from her. She been home for about an hour or so and she's feeling very nauseous and weak kneed. I kept telling her "I told you so". The teriyaki joints these days just aren't good. They don't grill or fry on extreme high heat. It's almost like they cook a bunch up and set it aside and then later reheat it. I ordered sweet and sour pork but the portion was so little and very different from the picture that was displayed outside of the restaurant. Even though Joy Teriyaki is a shadow of what used to be House of Teriyaki, it's still been a decent place, and I come here for lunch from time to time when I visit Wilsonville. Yesterday though I had a truly bizarre and disturbing experience. I walked in there, hoping to get some takeout. I walked in just behind a couple of women. They had obviously never been there, nor ever had Teriyaki, as they had to ask about seemingly everything on the menu. I stayed patient and waited, we've all been that person in different circumstances. But after enduring that for a while, where someone knowledgeable about how to treat customers would have said something like "perhaps you need a few more minutes to look at the menu, let me help this gentleman and I'll get right back to you". But no, not her, she actually doubled down on the two clueless women and started in on the "let me bring you some stuff to taste and see what you want...". And the taste testing began. Unbelievable, not even a glance in my direction. Wow! I don't even know what to say other than, "good riddance". You definitely deserve the abysmal Yelp ratings that you receive, and you really earned this one. read more

If I had used the bathroom here BEFORE I ordered my food I would've never ordered food... There's way too much to put into context here but let's just say the ice machine is broken and they scoop ice out of a bin into a cup for you and you have no clear sight of how clean the ice is or where it's stored at. The bathroom was so ungodly foul... I don't even know how to explain it but the toilet brush was just laying on the floor next to the toilet..crusted over...and had become one with the floor. It hasn't been moved in at least months or years. Floor has sever water damage and sinks. The door was caked with dirt and scum( as was every single surface in the bathroom as well). I should've called the health authority. I've never done that to any restaurant before and am not that kind of person but I did not eat the food I ordered and paid for. And instead held my bladder. When we lived in Wilsonville before, we would go to this teriyaki place several times a week because they cook everything fresh and it was delicious. This time we were quite disappointed with the quality of the chicken - it was hard and dry. We did absolutely love the option of brown sticky rice though. It was perfectly prepared and unique. Not a fan. Register lady was adamant about my food coming with extra sauce already portioned with my meals. When I asked her for two extra spicy sauces she then elaborated as if not wanting to give up any extras even though I was fine paying extra. Because of supply shortage for her sauce I didn't say anything but was more than willing to pay. However when arriving home I didn't receive any extra sauce not even what I paid for. I left a generous tip because I never see anyone in there and it was a mighty hot day. Food was over priced for what I got. It was supremely bland hence the extra sauce. Seemed microwaved. I love joy, it's my boyfriends and I'd favorite teriyaki place to go to. Since we moved out to Tualatin we haven't found one close by, however we stumbled upon this one the other day. Great service but the portions are SMALL! I always get a chicken teriyaki bowl and the one in clackamas packs in the rice. So much so that I never finish it. Lame excuse for a tofu dish!!!!!!!!!!! All you get is some quickly fried squishy tofu with white rice and some iceberg lettuce with a side of mayo!!!!! It's all so incredibly bland!!!!!! Wish I could give this a negative star. The lady at the front could not give me what I wanted. I wanted to order chicken and pork with rice. And instead of the side salad I wanted extra rice. My order is the same at every teriyaki place. The lady at the front could not understand that I wanted pork and chicken with rice. She insisted that I get two rice bowls one with chicken and one with pork. I corrected her and said I would like your chicken with rice and add pork please. She once again couldn't understand what I wanted. She took a phone call then we walked out and went up the road to Rice Time and I gave the man at the front my order and he had no questions. My daughter and husband picked up dinner to go. The quantity of food was not enough for the price. My entree portion didn't even fill 1/4 of the container and two small scoops of rice was kind of sad for $10. My son's was similar. Both my husband and daughter's entrees were a little better. Everyone received two small scoops of rice. All of that said, the actual food was delicious!! Makes me even sadder that there wasn't enough for the price. I didn't have the best experience here. I've been to other locations and I always love that for a chain style it still has that family owned feel to it. When I came into this location the staff member behind the counter was on her phone the whole time, when I told her that we were going to dine in she gave me Togo containers and a bag... the restaurant was empty and I felt she wanted to keep it that way? I love coming to joy teriyaki for their sweet and sour chicken, they dont keep the sauce separate and it's served big cuts of pineapple, my chicken and sauce fell short and tasted old and stale. Awesome Japanese/Korean lunch spot! The prices are super reasonable and the food is excellent -- bulgogi, kalbi, teriyaki, rice bowls, noodles -- all fresh and homemade. The table sauces are nothing short of transcendent -- a sweet, thick soy sauce that is prototypically Japanese and a red sauce (I call it 'dragon sauce' but that may not be correct; it's made from gochujang, sugar, and vinegar) that is unmistakably Korean. We were there with a large school group and the owner was exceedingly nice -- prompt, kind service and when we all 20 of us) ordered waters, she said it was ok if we got Cokes, no charge. If I lived in Wilsonville, this would absolutely be my go-to lunch joint. You want to give these folks your business and you want to put their food in your belly, repeatedly. read more

We love this place and drive 6 miles each way to get it weekly. My favorite- Mongolian Beef. It is spicy and sweet and the onions are cooked to perfection. Wish the serving size was a bit bigger. Want it super sized! My husbands fav is the Spicy Chicken and he likes to get their stir fry veggies instead of rice. The employees are friendly. They have a stamp card.
