I went with the mixed plate where can choose a couple of protein. I chose the huli huli chicken and kalua pork. It comes with rice and macaroni salad. The chicken was marinated with a soy sauce base and very tasty with a little sweetness. The kalua pig was good as well but a little too much fat for me but the fat was not chewy so it was okay. I love Hawaiian Time! Coming from the east coast we have almost no Hawaiian food spots. Here in Oregon it is a chain! Although this is fast food it still tastes super high quality and you get a really good portion for what you pay. I got the smallest size and it was still super filling. Only around 8$. They have a drive through too which is super nice. The menu had mixed plates and sandwiches. It is limited but good for someone who is indecisive like me and likes choosing from a smaller menu. I got the mixed plate which comes with a meat, rice and Mac salad. The rice is cooked perfectly. Definitely recommend for a quick meal. read more

I love the food, but I will never come back. I am so put off by fast food workers ASKING for a tip. 1) It's rude. 2) You don't deserve a tip for just for doing your job. If you aren't providing table service, you don't deserve a tip. This place was recommended to me last year and I never ended up stopping in while I was in town. I am so glad I remembered it this time around! This food is absolutely amazing and the service is fast even when the drive thru line was wrapped around the back. I got the #2 Honolulu Beef plate with rice and mac. I did not need the large because the portion was HUGE, but for the price it was a HUGE deal! Not mad about that at all. The mac is one of the best side items I've had anywhere. I know this is a traditional dish and I wish I had the recipe. I could eat this stuff by the pound! The beef was tender and the sauce was delicious. I wished this plate never ended after I dug into it. I will be back to try more off of the menu. Got to say that overall this is a good value for your money. The portions are generous and the food is really good. Personally I enjoyed the spicy chicken. Went medium and it was the right amount of hot and flavor. Mix that in with the Mac and you have a winning combination. Overall felt that the food was better when all of it was mixed together. Alii #2 (HONOLULU BEEF) mouth watering and delicious with extra extra mac! This is our favorite thing to order! My hubby picked it up today in the drive-through to bring for my lunch break. I can't tell you how the food was, because when we( 3 people) got there at 2:00ish they were closed( a note on the door stating they were closed would have been nice). The five or so people ahead of us left. We tried to go through the drive thru, but after two attempts at the speaker, no one answered. According to the hours listed on the door, they were supposed to be open. If they were short staffed, why wouldn't they simply put a note on the door and drive thru speaker that they are closed til whatever time they'd be open if at all? I was introduced to Hawaiian Time several years ago and didn't have any inkling if I would enjoy this style of food. I used to get their sandwiches, which I always thought were decent, but seemed a little dry. I then moved into the Hula Hula chicken and that is what I get every time I'm here. The consistency can be a bit hit and miss at times. There are times when the chicken is dry. You can add all the teriyaki that you want (I actually own a Hawaiian Time teriyaki bottle at home) and it can't save the chicken. Not sure if that is because I got an old batch, but it can pull down the entire meal if you get it that way. Surprisingly, I enjoy the macaroni salad, even though it is pretty much just macaroni and mayonnaise and pepper. The balance has to be just right on this side item though, or else it is too overpowering or has no flavor. In my experience, it usually tastes pretty good and I can usually correct the flavor at home with ingredients I have if I need to. The meal comes on rice and that always seems to be cooked the same way. I've never had an issue there. I've never had my order made incorrectly, unlike many other take home restaurants. The meal I get only comes with 1 teriyaki container and more often than not, I am not asked for more. I get handed the bag in the drive-thru and they close the window (hence, me needing to purchase the bottle for myself so I always had enough). The employees have always been friendly, so they just get into a routine of not asking, I think. Overall, I like this place. For $8.50 I get more than enough food. The consistency on the chicken and the side macaroni salad can be hit and miss, but rarely inedible. The staff is friendly but often quick to close the window and move on to the next order; if I hadn't purchased my own bottle of their teriyaki sauce, I wouldn't enjoy my meal very much without more of the sauce. So I'd like them to be more on top of asking if I would like more, however that is minor. I go here about once a week and I will continue to do so. read more

If you are at all familiar with TRUE Hawaiian Plate lunch do NOT visit expecing L&L greatness. There is NO spam musubi (or spam at all), Chicken Katsu, Loco Moco or any of the other main staples in Hawaii Plate Lunch. The portions are pretty standard here and other than that you will find that your cravings are not met. That being said -- if you haven't ever had plate lunch you may find this food out of this world amazing -- in which case I suggest you visit Hawaii or when you go south an L&L Drive In. Coming from Hawaii I was expecting some GREAT ono home food. NOPE. I am sure the Huli Huli chicken is fine but it is kinda of hard to mess up marinated grilled chicken unless you get the sauce wrong. Again I didn't try this so I am SURE it is good. The steak meal was so disappointing. The meat was terribly dry and when I asked for extra sauce was told that they didn't have it. They gave me teriyaki sauce extra but that wasn't the sauce on the steak. ACK... The rice is sticky as it should be but I normally get extra mac salad and less rice. The mac salad here has a nice pepper flavor but again it isn't the traditional mac salad I am used to in plate lunch. Pretty good. I was SO happy they had Hawaiian Sun drinks -- but boo to the TINY menu options. I always order their large huli-huli chicken. I love the teriyaki sauce that they use - great with siracha! Their portions are big when it comes to the white rice and not as generous on the meat. There was a gal with dark hair, bangs in her face, maybe piercings I don't remember working 1/23/2024 and she was SO HORRIBLE. Here's my experience: Pulled up to the order speaker and placed our order (1 small Huli Huli 1 regular Mona Loa and medium root beer.) She already had a bad attitude on the speaker, yelling very loudly in a negative tone. Had to wait 15 minutes in line for the order, no big deal happens there often. Get to the window and she says 25-30 minutes on chicken and seemed like she really HATED her job. Horrible attitude, kept slamming the window. Stormed off after we told her we would pay there and come back in 25-30 minutes. Seemed frustrated that we opted to purchase the food instead of just leave. We return a little over 25 minutes later, pulled up to the speaker and said we had a pickup order. One car in front of us, took another 13 minutes. Got to the window and she said something along the lines of "what are you here for?!" We told her "the food we ordered almost an hour ago?". She goes back and says she will check on it for us. Comes back a few minutes later, aggressively hands us the food, says "HERE!!" And slams the window. Forgetting our drink? Yes. I said excuse me a few times and she ignored. I tapped on the window and she says "WHAT?!" I said "you forgot my drink" she slams the window and comes back a minute or 2 later with a half full cup of dr. Pepper (not what I ordered ) with 3 YES THREE pieces of ice. I get it if you're having a bad day but working in customer service means persevering through that and being a DECENT human. Girl!
