The service here is terrible. Housekeeping is poor - they either won't come or don't fulfill basic requirements. The front desk is completely incompetent - they can't handle basic requests like dinner reservations. Waitstaff at multiple restaurants and the spa were rude and unhelpful. Wifi doesn't work. Rooms aren't stocked with basic amenities (chairs for the balcony, glassware, etc). For the price you pay this place does not deliver. read more

The good. Came back form 4 night stay. Resort well maintained. Tidy rooms. Kid programs were very good. They know how to keep them busy. Hotel staff were polite and very responsive. Can get away from the main pool to others if you want peace. Drink servers at main pool were quick. Good atmosphere overall. What you want and expect from a place like this. 4 to 5 stars for us. The bad. Anything that had to do with food and food services. Slow to inattentive. We sat in the Alma lounge for literally a half hour, with it only a quarter full before we were engaged. Par for the course at all eateries there. It became somewhat of a running joke for us, it was that consistently poor. Food quality was very average to poor even if you are expecting simple resort fare. Staying on resort is not an option if you want something good. If you are the type who likes to stay put for everything this is not the place for you. The $$$ paid for poor service and poor food overall is not what you would expect at a place like this. A simple drive to Marathon, while using your Yelp reviews will save you however. Quality can be found at a reasonable drive. Sparky's and Castaways headed that list. 1 to 2 stars. The food/service situation alone will not make us return, and we regularly visit the keys. read more

stayed here for the fist time last year and now plan on making this a must every summer.... we stayed at a villa and we even had our own pool. theres also 3 pools throughout the resort, 1 for kids, 1 family, and 1 adults. you really dont need to leave the resort for anything, they have restaurants, pools, a marina, even swimming with dolphins. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a vacation at the Florida Keys. its good for families and couples, leisure. great for everyone! read more

We had a conference here in October 2012. The rooms in the resort were much nicer than the villas, as the bedrooms in the villas were tiny. The pools were great, food was good...service lacked a bit on one day during our stay, but overall great memories! The views were spectacular and we were fortunate to have perfect weather! read more

There was no power when we arrived at the resort. I had to use the restroom in the pitch dark. It was organized chaos. There was a huge line of people sweating profusely. Abandon all hope he who enters here!!!!! read more

Beautiful resort with plenty of elbow room. I love the private adult pool around the back since the main pool does get overwhelmed with kids. They have there own dive shop and dock, and cheaper than most other dive shops. read more

Unimpressed, it's a tourist trap. Nothing is open after 11pm, everything is overpriced. Definitely kid friendly but everything is an up charge or a hidden fee. read more

Beautiful resort and friendly staff. The rooms were large and very nice. The group I went with were younger and the resort caters primarily to families with young kids. We didn't have a problem finding a relaxing spot in the sun during the day. Everything closes at 11 and there is not much to do in the area. I would recommend this for family vacations, not for a romantic getaway or a fun vacation with friends. My only complaint would be about the "Mexican" restaurant on the resort Tios. It is new and was the worst Mexican food I've ever had (and I've had a lot of Mexican food). My food was cold and had to be remade and then I found a chicken bone in my enchilada (a very large one at that)! They charge for chips and salsa but give you free pork rinds? Gross. read more

Just returned from a trip to Hawk's Cay for Spring Break. We are a family of four and stayed in one of their two-bedroom villas. The grounds at Hawk's Cay were beautiful. The staff incredibly friendly and the customer service was outstanding. The beach/lagoon swim area and the numerous pools were all very clean and enjoyable. All-in-all Hawk's Cay is a fabulous place. The only possible negative I can give it was the cost of meals, but having traveled to numerous resorts in several countries, their prices were well in-line. No in-resort restaurant ever has reasonable prices. The up side, our rental was that it came with a complete kitchen, so we made the ten minute drive to one of the two local groceries in Marathon and picked up food for daily breakfast and lunches which helped ease the cost of meals. We would definitely return. read more

Hawks Cay has it all for families with young ones. My kids are a bit older so we mainly slept there and did all of our activities off property. Our room was Ok the air conditioning did not work very well and my 10 year old pointed out dust on the ceiling which turned my stomach. Our first night there we went down to the restaurant Ocean. It took almost a half hour for the waitress to come and say hello and take our drinks. The waitress knew I was a bit upset and did her best to accommodate us after that. We had the same waitress every morning and night afterwards and have to say by the end of our stay she turned out to be fantastic. The property is absolutely beautiful and is nice to have everything right there because my husband had to work and it was great to just get up and go with the kids and do something on property while he was busy. I absolutely recommend Hawks Cay to families with young kids who will be entertained from sun up to sun down while you relax and enjoy the scenery and sun. read more

I love Hawk's Cay. I first visited Hawk's Cay over 5 years ago on a girl's trip and fell in love. I returned this year for a solo spiritual vacation and was once again blown away. The one thing that stands out for me is the friendliness and service from the moment I arrived until I left. Although the resort is family friendly, I appreciate there are also adult accommodations including the adult only pool area. Unfortunately my snorkeling trip was cancelled due to weather on my last trip, however I went parasailing previously and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I would definitely recommend! read more

Hawks Cay Resort has the best spa in the Florida keys. Never stayed in the villas, but I would recommend the spa. My wife can't get enough of it. read more

My wife and I recently spent four wonderful days at Hawk's Cay. The resort is located on Duck Key and it is convenient to Marathon Key. It is also 61 miles from Key West. The resort is very beautiful and there are good restaurants located on site. We stayed in Harbor Village and we had a wonderful view from our condo. The accommodations were nice and enjoyed our stay. Going to dinner on the resort is convenient because you can charge everything to your room with your room key. The only negative thing we can say about our stay was that when we checked out there were two charges on our bill from the beach grill that we didn't charge. The desk clerk, Andrew, was helpful and he went back through the credit card receipts and found the two receipts for the charges in question. On one receipt someone had forged my signature and on the other my wife's signature. The charges were reversed and that was the only hiccup of our stay. Our advice is to check your bill carefully before you leave because we got the impression that this is not an uncommon occurrence. read more

This place is awesome. The staff is super nice and accommodating and the room is clean. I am here now staying until Tuesday. I have been here for a few days. The reason I am only giving 2 stars is because the pirate ship pool is clef and all hot tubs are out of order. Sort of a bummer. It seems every where we turn something else is down for maintenance. Otherwise an awesome family spot. I would stay again. read more

Great place for a quick get away. No need to leave the resort for anything. Nice restaurants in location, private beach, children's beach, large pool, Dolphins in site, tarpon feeding, para sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, etc. everything you'd want to do in the keys. Romantic setting at night with bonfires. You can choose between hotel rooms or town homes. Both are wonderful. read more

We have stayed at Hawks Cay several times and always enjoy our stay. Beautiful grounds and villas are great for couples or families. This visit we opted to stay in the hotel since we did not plan on spending too much time in the room. Next trip we will choose the villas. Walls are thin - you can hear your neighbors talking and noisy. Also, the wait staff at the breakfast restaurant seem disinterested. But overall a nice resort. read more

Only our first night at Hawk's Cay on Duck Key and we have had the most amazing time. We ate at Ocean, one of the best meals I have had in a very long time (and I frequent a lot of eateries in South Florida) and my fiancé and I met Damien. Not only did he stop to talk to us and ask how our meal was, he later offered up a recommendation on wine and hooked us up with an amazing bottle and glasses. He was superb customer service at the very best and we couldn't have asked for more! read more

Been here twice. Great for families. Kids camp is awesome - drop the littles ones off and go grab a beer.

This is our third time at Hawks Cay Resort. The previous 2 times where a very relaxing enjoyable vacation (hence why we returned). This time however we have noticed that things have changed significantly with the service, clientele and noise level. We are in our 50's and both have very busy jobs and look forward to a high quality resort with a tranquil atmosphere. If you are looking for this... look elsewhere! I felt like I was on spring break with a bunch of twenty something year olds in Animal House ( and this was at the "Tranquility pool".)There were no manager/administration that patrolled the property as well even after it was brought to their attention. This large corporate group was given free range of the property with no regards to the other guests. Please do your research before booking at this resort ... unless you enjoy The movie Animal House and wish to relive it! read more

Hawks Cay is an extremely nice resort, especially when using the "Hero's" program. This is the 2nd time I have stayed here, it is a really nice, the last time stayed here we had a nicer room. There is a $25.00 daily resort fee but it covers tipping on the resort which makes it nice. They also place a $200.00 hold on your credit card which they tell you about long in advance but some folks still bitch. All in all Hawks Cay is a top notch place especially in the Florida Keys. read more

This place is very dirty!! The floors in our villa were so dirty, our feet would become black, after walking in the villa a few minutes. Called housekeeping to come and mop the entire place. I also mopped the floors a few times after I realized the dirt was coming from the AC ducts. Also saw several cockroaches in the villa...not good. Other amenities are excellent: the pools, crafts for kids, the wait staff, are all fine, we just needed a clean villa for a four star stay. Next time I will look for a nicer/cleaner resort. read more

Stayed here for my brothers 40th. We stayed at a villa that was $800 per day. The house we stayed at was poorly maintained, not clean and had no internet service. The one positive thing was the private pool but not enough to justify the price we paid. We tried two of the restaurants and weren't impressed with the food either. This place is 3 star service for a 5 star price. Stayed in villas...dishes had to be re washed before used, at the lagoon they charged $10 for 30 min on a paddle board for kids, Food is mediocre at best and grossly over priced, charged me $800 for a fishing trip that if I would have booked directly w the captain would have been less than $600 per his website (shame on me I guess), they are extreme disorganized all over the property and oh....if you need wifi access, forget itas It's non existent (contrary to what they will tell you prior to your arrival) but "you're welcome to come to the lobby." Wife and friends surprised me for a early 40th birthday get away. Resort was really nice, staff extremely friendly, and service was fast. We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa which was amazing. It had a great view of the marina and water. The layout was spacious, villa well decorated, and clean. Only complaint I have was the adult pool. Seagulls bathing in the fountain which ran over into the pool. Pool tile and marcite had black algae all over which is not a good sign of a well maintained pool. read more

The facility is ok. It's not like their website. We stayed in a 2 bedroom 1 and 1/2 bath villa. It sucked. No wifi. Ripped carpet, cracked tile, dirty and smelly even with the upgraded kitchen. Toilets did not work correctly. Cheap linens. Housekeeping was terrible. It was a small unit. We ate at 2 restaurants on the property. The buffet one was only ok as for food quality. Service was weak, at best, all but one time. Breakfast buffet was ok. The nicer restaurant had good food but weak service. Have dinner at this restaurant only. I think it's called Alma. The outside bar was cool. Staff was great. They have guys to drive you around if you don't want to walk. We used them a few times. They were great. Walking was easy. Tennis courts were great. Plenty of courts. The main pool was basic but fine. It was December so very crowded. Could not get a chair. The dolphin experience looked good. Didn't do it because my kid was too short. Wanted to jet ski but it is only with a tour guide so didn't do it. The lagoon was cool but small. There were jelly fish so we could not swim. We rented kayaks. Great way to kill 20 minutes. Gym was nice. They also have good activities for teens like volleyball, basketball, mini golf, etc. There is a spa. Didn't go in. There was no sailing. We fished near the villa and it was great. Everyone caught a lot of fish. Used shrimp and squid. If you can get a room at a low price and don't want a high end resort the place works especially if you have kids and good weather. If you have rain go off property. If you are expecting a high end resort go elsewhere. We also went to the aquarium 10 miles south of it. We swam in the tank and it was awesome. Only go there if you will swim. Otherwise you can see everything in 30 minutes. read more

First of all - don't let the pics fool you!!!! The resort looks NOTHING like the pics. Only the main building was renovated and the rest is very and beat up looking. We stayed with our kids for 3 nights and I was counting the minutes until we left. And we paid almost $600 a night!!! The problem is that you cannot get any of the services. I called ahead to make sure - towels, soap/shampoo, kitchen supplies were in the townhouse we were staying at. I was told yes. On our first day i walked into one of the bedrooms - hair balls on carpet! Yuck yuck! I called to ask for rooms to be vacuumed! 3 phone calls later and nothing. Finally we to shower - one shampoo and 3 towels. We are five people. I called front desk and was told it was coming. 25 minutes - nothing. I call again. Finally I had to go (a solid 5-7 minute walk - wait on line 10 minutes to speak to someone to get shampoo and towels) I go to make pasta in kitchenette for my daughter - guess what - no pots! I go to make pasta for my little one. Well - no pots! Go to shower - no clean towels Day 2- on their weekly schedule was 11:00 art project in kid center.- my 4 year old was excited. But project means minimal art supplies thrown on a small table (btw - same art project as yesterday) - no adult supervision and when I asked for some guidance - I got zero help and. "Projects are the same as yesterday and everything is out" - her that's helpful! Later that - again no towels till I called 3x and waited over 45 minutes! FINALLY Last day - check out is at 11... well at 9:20 there's a knock on our doors - cleaning crew! I told them we weren't ready. They literally stood outside my door till we left at 10:15. Ridiculous! No one bothered to help us the days we were there but check out day - they are outside our door. Also - Garbage is picked up and left outside for the next day on the grass- it's gross and attracted bags and little critters. And security is not there at night - so don't leave your doors unlocked, Kids unsupervised or stuff out!!! our experience at the "resort" was sad - we paid $600 a night! SAVE your money and go elsewhere! read more

I must say the place was pretty decent looking- a bunch of pools, large grounds, and a decent room. However looks can be deceiving. First, you get whacked with a $30 resort fee everyday. Of course, the company doesn't put that in the daily room charge so when you are comparing hotel prices you can't compare apples-to-apples. This is simply a junk fee to add on to an already very expensive hotel. Add on $30 to whatever price they give you! Our TV was broken and room safe were broken when we arrived so we called up the front desk and they said they would send maintenance down. After 30 min. of not seeing any maint. guy we called again, but to no avail. Finally, we had to speak with a manager to get a maint. guy--so three calls to simply get a maintenance guy to fix a TV and room safe. Then we went to the Beach Grill, one of the on-site restaurants at the hotel. They do not allow you to charge the bill--I suppose hoping that if it is billed to your room you will simply not think twice about how much you are charging up. It would be nice that you would have the option of paying off the bill and not having such a monster bill at the end. Nonetheless, at most of their restaurants was lousy with very slow service. We ate at both the Beach Grill and Tom's Harbor. At Tom's Harbor we waited nearly a half hour simply to get our check. Since your car is parked away you've to wait for their "island" tram to get everywhere. This thing is slow as heck and who wants to wait outside in 95 degree weather for a bus to get around? If you want free breakfast look elsewhere. Sure you could get a free breakfast at a Motel 6 for a quarter of the price of Hawks Cay, but at Hawks Cay they charge you $19 simply for a buffet breakfast. In fact, a lot of things at the hotel are upcharges, such as just about all the water activities, swimming with the dolphins, bike rentals, etc. This place is hardly all-inclusive and you would think, at $300 a night plus a $30 whack on a bogus "resort fee," that these things would be included. The final day we had to practically beg to get our checkout moved back just one hour. When I asked if they had our room rented out the next day they said no. So they were simply being jerks, and standing on ceremony to get us out. In fact, we received a note the previous night from the manager, a Mr. Singh, that checkout was at 11 and if we were not out there would be a 50% charge for the next day, and if we were not out by 2PM we would be charged 100% for the next day. Seriously? In a $300/ night hotel they treat you worse than a foreclosure judge would. The last straw happened the final day when we called to simply have our bags picked up and loaded into our car--supposed to be part of the service for the $30 daily resort fee. No one came...we could three more times and despite assurances from the front desk no one ever showed up. In short, I will never stay there again! They've Ritz Carlton prices with the service worse than the EconoLodge. There are plenty of other options nearby in Marathon and throughout the Florida Keys where you can get a lot more for your dollar and be treated with respect! read more

I'm glad I read a lot of reviews before I went, so my expectations based on the photos were tempered by yelpers' first-hand observations. However, I didn't experience any of the major complaints that some giving 2 or 3 stars seemed to have had. About the most helpful review to me said, "Don't expect the 4 Seasons." I'm glad I didn't, because Hawk's Cay definitely isn't, but has a great vibe, and I didn't think was too pricey in comparison to what it had to offer. First of all, we got a smoking deal through Hotwire, on a weekend during high season. Although this was only for a king bed, I was hoping to change to 2 queens. Over the phone prior to our trip, Hotwire wanted to "upgrade" us for another $60 a night; I rolled the dice, and fortunately was able to score the 2 queens upon check-in at no additional cost. For those complaining about the food, we had mixed results. Sure, drinks were expensive, but then again, I'm not expecting bargain prices at a resort. My only complaint about that was that a $7 smoothie was really more a slushy with artificial ingredients. On the other hand, I thought the breakfast buffet was excellent (very good smoked salmon, bacon, omelet station, etc.) and that our 2 year old was free and our 4 year old half-price. When you tally up the price for drinks alone for the kiddos, I think the breakfast buffet, while not cheap, was cost-effective. Their restaurant, "Ocean" had pretty good wood-fired pizzas, empanadas, and seared ahi; the empanadas were a bit expensive at $12 a pop, but the pizzas and ahi weren't priced much differently than any other place I've been to. The room we stayed in was large; in the hotel proper, not a villa or townhouse. The building was probably from the 60's or 70's, but had been renovated at some point recently, it appeared. While not the most high-end room I've ever stayed in, it was quite nice and met all of our needs. The staff, I found, was very friendly overall; most were from foreign countries for what that's worth. Some truly went out of their way to be helpful and were genuinely friendly, where others it seemed more grudgingly, but we never encountered rudeness or indifference. Overall, we were definitely happy with our stay there. The lagoon was perfect for kids, and contrary to some of the complaints I read here, we didn't find it "stagnant" or stinky. Dollar for dollar, not the best vacation value in the world, but a wonderful location and ambience at a decent price trade-off. read more

Our family of 4 just got back from a 3 night stay at Hawks Cay. Overall, this resort has potential, but there were several things that were less than desirable during our stay. We will probably think twice before re-booking, but we will probably give the resort another try. Pros: Beautiful property! Feels like you are really "getting away." The staff was extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food at the Beach Grill poolside was good, as was Alma. We loved the vibe by the main pool - relaxed, yet active and entertaining. Cons: Where do I begin??? We checked in for our Island View room and received room 1104. Do NOT get this room! It is on the bottom floor and faces and ugly building where employees seem to be training and walking by all day long. On our final day at the resort, a Waste Pump truck pulled up right outside of our window at 8:30am and started pumping sewage! We were in disbelief that management would allow this. When i mentioned it to the front staff upon check out the response was "oh really?"...that's all he had to say. The room itself was extremely dark because they block the window with a bunk bed. The AC barely cooled down in the room even when we lowered it to 68 degrees and had the ceiling fan on! All night long, the toilet made a loud rushing sound that sounded like it was loosing water. The refrigerator made a ringing sound the entire time we were at the resort. When we first saw the room, we complained about what was right outside the window and that it was so dark we had to turn on the lights. The front desk said that they were fully booked except for a villa on the complete opposite side of the property (keep in mind that i'm 7 months pregnant and the constant back and forth would have been too much). We declined moving because of this reason and thank goodness we did! The very next day, the tram for the hotel broke down! If we wanted to go to the other side of the property, we had to wait in line for a 6 seater golf cart! At this point the entire stay was comical. The front desk did try to make some ammends by removing the daily resort fee of $29 a night, but to us, this room and stay was worth a lot less than we paid. Regarding room service....don't do it! On the first night, we ordered a pizza, a kids mac and cheese, a grouper sandwich and a bucket of beer and our bill was over $100!! It's just not worth it! Overall, the kids loved this resort, but as i mentioned earlier, we would think long and hard before rebooking. After we left Duck Key, we stayed at a lovely 4 diamond resort in Ft. Lauderdale and the difference between the 2 resorts was stark! We were so happy to be in a new resort where everything worked and natural light came in the room. Hawks Cay has a lot of work to do if they want to retain customers. read more

This is our second stay at Hawks Cay and it's the second time I'm disappointed with this resort, although I wouldn't call it a resort. Check in takes a loooong time and you are upcharged for everything by an impatient front desk staff. Want a balcony? Extra $50. Want an actual island view with the 'island view' room you booked? Extra $$. The hotel lacks organization and professional management. Examples: You receive an event program upon check in and we planned to join the evening kayak at 6. Head over to the watersports desk and it closes at 5 ?? Huh? We were rerouted to the kids club where the sweet but very young girl at the desk said that the person who leads the evening kayak tour already left for the day because there were no reservations. Maybe the resort could make a note that reservations are required for that. The kids pirate ship area is fun but filthy. There are leaves and berries all over the place. This area should be cleaned with a leaf blower daily, which seems simple enough. As other reviewers stated, the main pool is dirty. Not just a little dirty, pretty darn dirty. We found another pool which the condo users go to that has no view but was clean at least, but I could have stayed in Miami to swim in a pool with no view. The food is no good. Plan to drive out of the resort to eat. After this visit I will find another place to vacation in the Keys. read more

Honestly, if you can choose a different resort, please do. We had our wedding at Hawks, great time with family, but not a greatt experience with the resort. Horrible guest service and cleanliness. The first night we arrived, there was a pair of womans panties hanging on the broken fire hose in our room. Not to mention the fingernail clippings and broke travel bed provided for my 4month old son, this place sucked! I would say if I knew that the standards for living were so low here we would have booked elsewhere. The views are pretty, the dolphins are great but, the poor attitudes and broken beer bottles on the ground outside really take away from the Florida sunsets. Please, shop around! read more

Perfect for kids! The only downside is I wish they had better restaurant options. Would for sure go back.

I stayed at Hawks Cay resort a couple of weeks ago. I went with a friend who was there for a conference. So, while she was working I got to spend time by the pool. While the resort is definitely family oriented, they also have an adults only pool that was very quiet and peaceful. I stayed in one of the townhomes on the resort and was pleasantly surprised. Out the back door was direct access to a water view. I saw a few very large iguana in the back yard which was really fun for a Kansas City girl. Really nice and peaceful resort. read more

We have been coming to Hawks Cay for over a decade and never before have we experienced such dissatisfaction. Unless we asked, no one ever told us what we were entitled to. Apparently valet and breakfast were included in our package, but no one ever advised us that we had to obtain vouchers. Subsequently, we were charged every day for our breakfast. As for valet, we only found out that it was included with our stay when we checked out. Unless we asked, no one told us anything. After the concierge assured us he would remove the breakfast charge, we noticed it was still there upon checkout. Again, we had to remind them it was included in our accommodation package, and they removed it. I felt that if we never mentioned anything they would have kept the charge. Please note that this totaled over $200.00. For a supposedly luxurious resort, both phones in the room never worked properly, and our headboard was broken. Our cable went out a few times and it was husband who had to fix it. Our maid service failed to replenish our towels, and we had the unfortunate experience of having to hear them argue amongst themselves because one maid was shouting on her phone and the other maid had told her politely to keep her voice down. This angered her and an argument ensued. I was embarrassed and extremely uncomfortable. Every year over the last decade we have invited a new couple to join us. The couple we invited this year were just as unhappy as we were, which was an embarrassment for us, because it was our recommendation that convinced them to came. There is only so many times you can blame new management for your dissatisfied guests. We are not looking for the generic response that every other negative review has received. Rather we prefer that you address our issues and everyone else's with some action. Sadly, I think we have to look for a new vacation spot next year. read more

From the moment we checked into the hotel we experienced an unfriendly host of employees. The front desk was interested only in getting their hands on our credit card to make sure we had enough for any extras we purchased. We wanted the privacy of an island view and picked the best of two rooms overlooking parking lots. I was expecting an island view to be botanical so we were disappointed in what we got for what we paid. The resort itself is fine, the pools and patio areas were nice, the room we stayed in had been updated but was just normal, however be aware that an island view is a parking lot view. The tiki bar was great and the bartender was experienced, friendly, and efficient. A plus. The staff seemed heavy with middle managers who never once asked us about our stay. They walked around without interacting with guests. A maintenance crew of four almost knocked me off a walking path because they didn't form a single file so that all could walk. No acknowledment or apology was issued. We ate one evening in the restaurant. Overpriced (not unexpected by us, it is a resort); the food was adequate but the place sort of fell apart. Understaffed? We waited too long for food (we're on vacation so we were relaxed about that) and way way too long to get a check, that was upsetting. No real apology was given. Housekeeping did a good job. A plus. So two pluses gives them two stars. I can't recommend. read more

This was the biggest waste of my hard earned money!! No hot water for the 3 days, Villas are dirty, they even wanted to move us and the other one was worse then the first one i spent 2 hours cleaning. They need to wash the sick carpet!! food is EXPENSIVE 123.00 for 4 buffet breakfast kinda pricey when I only had 1/2 a waffle. Without the dolphin experience it would have been a COMPLETE WASTE!! If they ever get rid of the dolphins they better close the doors!! I read all the the reviews and was willing to over look because I figured some people are really picky. Yah DON'T GO UNLESS YOU HAVE MONEY TO WASTE, ENJOY DIRTY AND COLD SHOWERS!! We came here for a family wedding. Overall we had a great time. There was plenty of recreational activities to keep the kids busy while the adults could lounge away in the sun. Plus the lagoon was the perfect place to teach the kids how to properly snorkel. Being that my family has experience with staying at a resort with a convenient kitchen, we stopped by a Publix on our way in so we could avoid the pricey food of Hawk Cay. If you do your research, you can easily avoid this upset. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready and when we did receive access we noticed after the first hour that our room temperature wasn't dropping. A technician was immediately sent out. After 2 hours of trying to fix the A/C we were moved to a bigger unit (4 bedroom/ 3 bath) with no additional charge. Andrew, the night shift manager was extremely helpful and accommodating to ensure we were comfortable. We received free breakfast from the buffet each morning for our room of 6 for our troubles and our waiter Kingsley happily greeted us and showed outstanding service every day. In our new villa, besides the bugs that you normally see in Florida and no dirty towel pick up the last day, we were comfortable. This is where we were frustrated. We called WEEKS in advance to have the the patio at Alma exclusive to our wedding party after the ceremony by the gazebo (talk about some beautiful photographs with the sunset!). We were called 5 times while we were at the resort leading up to wedding day to ensure we would have the patio and we wouldn't be sitting inside. Funny, they still didn't get it right when we arrived. 3 additional parties were sitting outside with us. I had to get our own water and my brother had to hunt down the manager who was supposedly dealing with another irate customer since we waited 10 minutes to meet our server. While the food was absolutely worth the wait, we were definitely irritated that we had 1 server for a party of 15. We never got asked if we wanted additional drinks after ordering champagne for the toast, just received water. I didn't bother asking what the cake cutting fee was, but my family wasn't too thrilled with the bill. Only having 2 circumstances wrong with a 5 night stay and one that was resolved responsibly, is why I'm giving the resort 4 stars. And bravo to all of our shuttle service men! We had two elderly grandparents with walkers that had to be picked up and dropped off the whole stay and each driver was pleasant, friendly and extremely patient! read more
