Our family of 19 (15 adults, three toddlers, and an infant) just returned from six nights in Hawks Cay. Accommodations included a Sanctuary Villa and assorted hotel rooms. My husband and I were given a second floor room with a lovely green view of trees and manicured lawn. We enjoyed everything about the resort, from a delectable breakfast in 61 Prime (We were the only ones there when they opened at 7am!) to the pirate ship and the kids' activity room, to the Pickleball lesson (shout out to Patrick) and the patience of our server, Keisha, at Angler and Ale. I am so sorry I cannot explicitly thank our 61 Prime server! She was so welcoming and attentive! We even spoke with the chef who prepared our delicious Duck Key Special with pancakes and the oatmeal that was almost too pretty to eat! I want to make it clear that every employee we encountered was friendly, accommodating, and helpful! The housekeeping staff greeted us in the hallways and the pool attendants and front desk staff welcomed us like old friends. We had questions about our bill during check out, and Andrea at the front desk very patiently answered our questions and provided above and beyond service. We hope to return! My husband and I have come to Hawks Cay 5 times now and this last time we were very disappointed. We left our room at 8:20pm on a Sunday to find something to eat and all restaurants closed at 9pm. The new Salt and Ash restaurant wasn't even accepting any one anymore. Anger & Ale had about 4 overpriced meals on their menu which we decided were not worth the money. The service and employees have always been amazing but this new management wanting to close everything early is not the way to go when you're on vacation trying to enjoy your time. Even the outside pool bar was closing at 5pm until recently. Worst part is, there is no more room service! We ended up having to order two overpriced sandwiches at the little cafe which was also closing down for the day. Nowhere did they announce that you would starve after 9pm. Had we known, we would've gotten food earlier. The marketplace/food court store they had where Salt and Ash is now used to be so much more convenient. Also, our TV stopped working our second night there and we tried to call the front desk and the phone doesn't work either. We complained to the front desk and they were very nice and apologetic although it wasn't even their fault. Unless things change, we don't want to come back here. We'd recommend Baker's Cay or Isla Bella. Haven't had any bad experiences there. read more

We have visited Hawks Cay throughout the years with our family and were excited to return last week. We planned a five night stay in a four bedroom villa hosting our four adult children along with some spouses and our first grandchild. This was our first family trip in over five years where everyone could be together so we were very excited. We were also celebrating our anniversary and my husband's birthday. We requested an early check in and was told to call the day we were arriving which I did. It turned out taking us longer to get there than expected so we actually arrived right at the 4:00 check in time. My hubby dropped me off and when I walked into the lobby, I saw the longest line I have ever seen in my life. We travel a lot and never have I been 10 people back to check into a resort. I noticed many unhappy people and overheard many grumbling about how they were supposed to be in their rooms hours ago. A manager was trying to handle agitated people but the entire staff was overwhelmed. When I finally made my way to the front at 4:30, I was told that our villa was not ready and it would be closer to 5:30. Well that wouldn't work as I had a full barbecue catering meal being delivered at 5:00. We had 9 people who had all been on the road for 5-7 hours respectively and we were all tired and hungry. Completely unacceptable! After basically breaking down in tears and 30 more minutes with a manager, they found us a cleaned villa. Their response to why things were so unorganized and such was lack of employees. I understand that, but set the proper expectations for your guests, don't book more villas/rooms than you can service, etc. This was a horrible experience and had me so stressed out trying to get in the villa, setup welcome gifts, unpack all the cars and have the catering delivered. The villa was nice but very dated. The coffee pot was broken so we couldn't use that. No dish towels, no wine opener, just little things a full service vacation villa should have. We had minimal bath towel sets and no wash clothes. I had to call and request those from housekeeping along with more towels. TVs are very old. Another issue is due to Covid the villa is only cleaned every three days instead of more frequently as they used to be. And you do have to request that, so make sure you do that when you check in. The water pressure went out on our last day and we couldn't use anything for over an hour including the toilets. The positives of the villa were the beds were comfy and we never felt crowded due to the extra space the outdoor porches provide. We always book the Harborside villas so we can rent the boat slip out in front. Boat slip fees are separate from the villa rental just an FYI. Our family went to all the pool areas and one complaint our daughter with the baby had was when they tried to go to the kiddie pool the first morning it was closed and the hours different from the website. The adult pool had no towels the day my husband and I went and when he went to the main pool to get towels, he told the attendant there and their response was , yes we know. The bar service was so lacking that the husband also went to get our drinks. We had dinner for the hubby's birthday at Angler and Ale (you can see that review) and it was pretty awful and certainly not worth the $400 plus dollars we spent. The grounds are nice but you can definitely see areas that are in need of updates. Unfortunately, I do not feel like this resort has aged well. We stayed at Cheeca Lodge with some adult couples in January and feel that resort is definitely more renovated. I hope Hawks Cay invest in some updates, getting more staff, improving the food in their onsite restaurants, and overall getting back to the luxury resort of the past. read more

What an amazing and beautiful resort! The main pool is so pretty and there were plenty of chairs and staff to wait on us. The kids loved swimming with the dolphins, playing on the free kayaks and snorkeling in the lagoon. My husband and I relaxed and enjoyed the sunshine and watching the charter boats go by. The lobby is newly redone after the hurricane. Because of Covid there are extra safety precautions. Housekeeping does not visit your room or villa everyday which I prefer. I was able to call the front desk and have new towels sent over when we needed it. Our villa had the prettiest views and we enjoyed seeing the manatees and nurse sharks swimming around. This was our second time there. The first visit was really enjoyable and worth the money. This visit, not so much. Service was inconsistent, ranging from eminently professional to downright surly. Unfortunately, surly was the majority. It just seemed like a resort where no one likes their job. Prime 61 restaurant was good, not worth $160.00 for two entrees and one drink, whereas in 2018 it was a great experience. Trying to be fair during COVID-19 I can understand some loss of panache and quality, but our stay was simply not worth the price. Avoid the Marketplace at all costs. The staff is downright unpleasant and annoyed by the customer. Truly a lousy place to spend money. Our stay also unfortunately coincided with a medical professional conference, which means apparently that the pools, restaurants and other amenities are all filled with obnoxious drunk medical people. I get that everyone needs to blow off steam after the last year but I would check to see what conferences are scheduled before booking here. Really quite disappointed in our return visit. read more

Spoke to the manager and pleasantly surprised with the response. The resort itself is very nice. Rooms are spacious, multiple pools and a nice lagoon. The problems we had mostly had to do with our room and the noise or lack of soap etc. Breakfast buffet was around $12 which came with eggs, sausage, potatoes, coffee, muffins and fruit. The food was good and they have live entertainment by the pool which is nice. Pool closes at 7 though and the gym closes at 5p. The elevator was fixed a few days after we checked in. We didn't really have any problems with the staff either. . read more

Yikes! The website is very deceiving. We rented 2 villas and they are pretty run down. Broken lamp shades, old blurry televisions, small rooms with beds that barely fit in the rooms, no Keurig as advertised, very few hangers, no dish soap, and we had to go back to the front desk twice to get the room keys to work for my parents villa. Summer is not quite officially over but the kids are back to school. In the meantime I'm still trying to catch up with all of our summer travels.  The first trip we took right after the kids were finished with school was down to the Florida Keys. There aren't a lot of hotels with a swimmable beach in the keys, but fortunately we found Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key. Hawks Cay has their own ocean fed saltwater lagoon. It is large enough for kayaks and snorkeling and is full of aquatic life. We spent a lot of time here catching little fish and crabs. There are a couple of outdoor grills nearby and food or drinks can be ordered from the wait staff who make the rounds through the lounge chairs. We didn't stay in the resort building itself, instead we rented a two bedroom villa that was equipped with a kitchen, dining table, and a small area with a couch and television. While my wife and I enjoyed making our own breakfasts in the mornings and having extra space, I think the kids favorite thing were the iguanas that were living in the trees near our back porch. In addition to the lagoon, there are five pools scattered on the resort grounds. We didn't use the adult only tranquility pool but spent considerable time at the kid's pirate ship pool, the resort pool near the lagoon, and the sunset pool that was closest to our villa. And if that wasn't enough there are so many family activities planned throughout the day. We competed in a scavenger hunt and also spent a lot of time on the turf soccer field. There is also a miniature golf course, plenty of tennis courts, and a full service marina. There is so much to do that you may not even leave the resort area. If you do it is at least 15 minutes drive to any other restaurants or attractions. We had such an incredible stay at Hawks Cay and I definitely think we will visit again in the future. read more

Came here because it was highly recommended, and had good kid friendly activities. The front desk lady not very friendly very passive aggressive every time I asked her a question about the property. And upon entering the hotel room it did not have a microwave, and there is no microwave available for guests in any of the common areas. I have a 7 month old that requires to eat certain food (no restaurant food) the front desk lady (same lady) was very rude and straight up told me not happening because they don't have one at all. However her manager arrived and took care of us, but it's very inconvenient that they won't have it available specially since the hotel is "family" friendly. When we returned to our room our second day it smelled so strong of marijuana inside the bedroom it was shocking since I have the baby and a 2.5 year old none of us smoke and to come to that room like that it was not good. Had to leave the back door open to air out the bedroom. The "beach" it's not really a beach it's a man made hole w water and some sand. It's very nice but we were under a different perspective. Besides these inconveniences everyone else was nice and had a nice time. For the price I feel like there's other places you can go and get a better bang for your buck. read more

I have been at this resort a couple of times. Both times that we were here we reserved the three bedroom town home villas. The villa's are really clean, nicely decorated with a full kitchen. There are two bedrooms upstairs each with their own bathrooms. One of the rooms is a master bedroom with one king size bed with gorgeous views. The other room on the second floor has two queen sized beds. There is also a small washer and dryer tucked away in the hallway. Downstairs there is another smaller bedroom with a Jack and Jill bathroom. Just have to remember to lock both doors when using downstairs bathroom. The first time we stayed at this resort we used all of their amenities and we had a fantastic time. We were able to go fishing right in back of the villa where we stayed during the day. We spent time at the salt water lagoons, swam with dolphins, plus enjoyed a lot of cocktails at the adult only pool. Its really just a laid back relaxing place to go. The only time we really left the resort is when we went out for dinner. The second time we went was a few months after Hurricane Irma and the whole place was hit pretty hard. They were not completely opened for business as usual. We didn't know that but it was something we should have checked out before we went. The whole section where the saltwater lagoon, swimming with the dolphin and pools in that area was completely closed and under construction. Besides that we still had a great time. It's not where you are but who you are with that makes a trip special. We would go back again when they are in full operation. read more

Apon arrival my family loved the vibe of the resort. Good grounds keeping, clean, friendly staff and kid friendly. We got a room overlooking the pool, lagoon and canal. The room was clean, eye appealing and had a nice view. Unfortunately our third story room did not block out any of the noise happing outside at the pool. For a kid friendly place they had scheduled loud events right below rooms. During the day and early evening obviously not an issue but it lasted until ten pm. The first night we just did our best to ignore it but that's not easy for an overtired 2&4 year old. Night two same story it was a Latin dance night that went on until 10PM. That night I called the front desk and explained my concerns. The next day they moved us to a villa which was very generous. Our villa was nice! Having a washer & dryer, full sized appliances and a yard were great. The pool is beautiful, clean and lots of fun. The lagoon is a great place for the kids to play in the sand, swim in salt water with the safety of being enclosed and not on the ocean. We also spent a lot of time at the pirate ship, my daughter loved getting to see Koral the mermaid. *Pros Beautiful pool, lagoon and coral cove area for the children. Places to eat on the grounds Clean Good service Very good location, lots of restaurants around, things to do in the resort and off the resort. They offer golf cart rides to get to the places that are a little further away. *Cons In the hotel our beds had 3 pillows, we had to ask for one more for each bed. The villas had two pillows per bed and no comforters. We asked for more, the woman at the front desk said they "were looking for some" maybe a pillow shortage? The loud events by the pool until late night made it very hard to go to sleep until they were over. Coral cove does not open until 10AM. We spent just over an hour almost every morning trying to find something to do until they opened. In my opinion they should be open earlier. ***Would I stay here again? I visited Hawks Cay as a 4-day, couples fishing trip and we had a BLAST! The staff is​ friendly, the property is beautiful. The rooms in our villa were tight, but we managed! The resort offers bikes that you can rent hourly for free. My friend and I took advantage of this offer and had fun exploring the area​ while viewing the gorgeous views and properties nearby. There​ are also dolphins onsight that you can watch for free or interact with for various cost. I really wanted to swim with the dolphins, but no one in my party was willing to join me and I didn't want to experience it alone. I'm hopeful to do it next time! They also have an adult-only pool. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to visit it. The only thing I would change in my visit is the length of stay. I would certainly book for 5 days or more next time. Hawks Cay Resort is located on Duck Key in the lower Florida Keys. This boating resort provides tons of amenities: restaurants, convenience store, marina, boat slips, spa, gym, pool, salt water lagoon, on-site dolphins, and tons of water activities. The main purpose for our stay was business, but we did manage to sneak in a little fun. We drove down a few days early and stayed in Key West. The weather was pretty rainy during our visit so I am glad we didn't decide to stay at Hawks Cay for the weekend since there isn't much to do in the area except for boating and water activities. You won't find much to do outside the resort unless you drive to one of the larger Keys. The resort caters to families. Our initial room during check-in was suppose to be a bedroom with a king bed with a bunk bed. I thought the room sounded odd when my husband described it to me, but I assumed the room was a suite and the bunk bed was in a separate room... Nope, the bunk bed was situated right next to the king bed. A little creepy in my opinion. I guess there is no romance once you have children? We pleaded with the front desk that we would be willing to take any other room and they kindly switched us to a normal hotel room so we didn't have to sleep next to the bunk bed with our imaginary family. While we didn't get to make use of the pool or the saltwater lagoon we did dine at several of the restaurants at the resort and were quite pleased with our meals. Our hotel room's bed was very comfortable and we had a gorgeous bathroom with a huge walk-in shower. The mini fridge was very convenient for storing leftovers and bottled water during our stay. Overall, Duck Key would not be my first choice for a vacation, but if I had a family I could see Hawks Cay Resort being a very fun and relaxing spot to visit. read more

We are Villa owners... stay here frequently. Covid has them off their game!! There is NO social distancing, especially at the pool. Staff wear masks, but hard to find hand gel. Also not sure how well / frequently they are cleaning common areas. No housekeeping (seems to be a pattern). No towels!! It's a bit of a mess this year. read more

The resort is typical. Rooms are clean; villas are cute. Food is good. Eh, OK. My issue with Hawks Cay Resort is the dolphin encounter attraction. These wild marine animals kept in a very small pen - and the water is HOT - reading 92 degrees when I was there mid-July 2023. In the wild, they can swim down depths to cool off, exercise and hunt fish, and run the ocean as intended. I know most people have good intentions when they go to attractions that allow you to swim with dolphins, but if you understand the science behind it, you might think twice about what you're supporting. Dolphins have distinct personalities and run in family pods. In captivity, even the largest pool feels like a prison to them. Dolphins are torn away from their families in the wild--even babies, who typically stay with their mothers for three to six years. In captivity, many dolphins develop painful conditions, such as stomach ulcers, and some die prematurely from the stressful conditions of captivity. It's simple common sense, respect for nature, and should be outlawed. I would NEVER go back to Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys. read more

There are so many great things about this resort. Great pools. Great amenities like a lagoon, or a gym, or a mini golf course, etc. Staff was pleasant and we did many days at the main pool. The dolphin connection is also excellent, if a little pricey. So where is the fifth star? Two things: We stayed at the villa and places just feel a little ok. Not bad, but the bathrooms are small and more like a holiday inn than say a Westin. And the bedrooms are tight for the money that you're paying. And second, service was just ok. We asked that a toilet be fixed so it wouldn't run and....it still ran. But those are minor complaints when compared to the overall place. We really enjoyed our time here. read more

The pictures on the Hawks Cay website don't really tell the story. The resort looks run down. Fire pits look great in the pictures, but none were either working or lit at night. There is what looks like a fountain that is supposed to flow into the adult pool. Tile falling is off the outside and not working. Food at Angler and Ale is about a "C" and very expensive for the quality and service. Our first night we were looking for a place somewhere in the resort to have a late evening casual meal. The best they could do was to serve us some plastic-like pizza out of the gift shop/market. DiGiorno's out of a grocery store freezer section would have been a huge upgrade. The dolphin area is tired. We stayed in one of the 3 bedroom villas. While the kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, etc. For $1250 per night, one would expect at least for the kitchen to have soap for the dishwasher, a sponge, coffee filters, hand soap in the bathrooms, etc. but none were there. Housekeeping did drop off some items after we made a special trip to the front desk to complain. A quality resort would have friendly and customer service oriented people at the front desk, but at Hawks Cay the staff displayed the attitude that they would rather be somewhere else. Our family is currently staying here and we just finished night 5 of 7. I'm writing this review while my memories and the feeling of exhaustion due to our lack of quality sleep are still fresh in my head. We are staying in the sunset villas. The first thing I judge in any hotel or resort is the quality of the bed. If I could give negative stars for the quality of this bed, I would. This is the worst I've ever encountered at a supposed high-end hotel. Every night has been interrupted sleep due to the size of the bed (next to my wife), and the utter poor quality of mattress. I called the desk after the second night pleading with them for a pillow or foam topper but they informed me they don't have those as an option. The pillows are also flimsy, where you have to fold them in half to provide any type of bulk for your head to rest. For overall sleep comfort, I give them a 0/5. Absolutely horrendous. It's so bad I wish I could end our vacation early and get back to my own bed so my body would stop hurting. Our first night we found a cockroach in the cupboard, and as of this review we've found 3 small geckos crawling around the kitchen area. The main pool is gross. We watched a small child be thrown around in the water by his older brother, making the child vomit in the pool. The mother casually coaxed him out of the water, where he continued to cough up bits of food and loads of liquid all over the main area next to the pool. Her response to all of this was to take another sip of her drink and splash a little pool water on top of it, allowing her kid back into the water. Other residents unknowingly walked through it within minutes as the mother ignored the situation and continued to drink. We said something to a staff member, whom did nothing. We then went to the front desk and their response was to give us free drink tickets. That was our first and last time to this pool. While the resort cannot control what type of person stays here, our issues with the way others conduct themselves didn't end there. Our next door neighbor booked their villa through a rental company, which gave the resort little to no control over connecting with them. These monsters set off commercial grade fireworks for three nights in a row roughly 50 feet from the back of our unit, at times that ranged as early as 9:30 pm and as late as 11:45 pm. They left litter and remnants of fireworks all over the property, including in the front bushes which means there is a strong likelihood they hit our roof as our 6 and 8 year olds slept. We called security each time in hopes they would be caught, but like the cockroaches in our kitchen, they elusively snuck away without punishment. The one and only redeeming quality about this place is the family pool near the pirate ship. The two young women hold games and events for the kids every day, and everyone who works in this area seems to be genuinely happy and friendly to provide an amazing experience. I give them a 5/5, but everything else is just too miserable to give it better than a 1/5 overall. Also, the water guns on the pirate ship shown in the advertising don't even function so our kids lost interest in this after a few minutes. We would never visit Hawks Cay again unless significant investments are made to improve the quality of the stay and most importantly, the actual beds, since a decent sleep is a reasonable expectation of any resort, but mandatory when it's priced as a premier destination. read more

We have kids and they put us in a room w an adjoining door.. 1st 2 night were no problem, no one was in a joining rm.. then they put what sounds like an old couple, next door.. 6:30 am moving furniture, talking very loudly, hacking.. this is not what I paid for!!! We stayed here about 12 yrs ago and had a nice time. Heard they renovated so booked again for a few days last wk. We were disappointed for several reasons. Room was run down, pics will be posted; rusted shower head, broken frig ( which they did change out), bathroom shampoo holder was off the wall just sitting in the tub, shower curtain torn. Pool closed before sunset, even adult pool closed at 7:30, nothing to do at night. Our family arranged 3 weeks ago for a gift card to be delivered upon check in, did not happen. When family member called they were told " oh, don't see anything here", family insisted they ordered and paid for it $125! Finally " they found it"! Really poor experience. And they charged $659 per night! Plus taxes snd " resort" fees. Also paid $40 for drink shaker, all ice barley any liquor. What a waste of $2,000 for 2 days. read more

An absolute disappointment. I'm aware Covid is negatively impacting everyone. I get it. I'm here on my honeymoon and I've experienced a lifetime's worth of stress trying to plan a wedding during a pandemic. With that being said, their agents sell you on all these great amenities that they have, despite Covid, when in reality they have none. "4 great restaurants!" There's only 1. Their "fancy" restaurant is apparently closed until September, despite the agent telling me to take my newly wife there for a nice romantic dinner. "5 pools!" There are technically 2. The main pool is currently out of service and everyone is cramming into their adults only pool. So yeah... more like 1. "Bar located next to the adult pool!" Currently closed for the week for some reason.... "Beautiful lagoon!" It's a 100 x 50 yard pond with sewer smelling water. It would be different if things were closed due to Covid or if they were upfront before booking. Just do yourself a favor and stay in Marathon. You'll go there anyways for food, shopping, excursions, etc. Oh and we just came back from dinner and found a cockroach in our bathroom.... -An extremely disappointed customer currently staying at the resort right now. read more

Had a wonderful and relaxing weekend at Hawk's Cay. Great service and food at sixty One Prime . Omar was our server and he was great!

Checked in today and am not impressed. Had to wait 15 minutes just to check in (only one person working the desk and she was dealing with a guest.) Another came over and said she would be with us in a minute and came back ten minutes later. Room was advertised as water view, and I guess that is true since we see a corner of the pool, but for over $600 a night, I expected more. Room is okay but bathroom door lock is missing. No cups in room except for paper coffee cups - not even anything in bathroom. Charging ports on table do not work. Definitely not a luxury resort despite charging luxury prices. Could have been on an all inclusive cruise for the same nightly rate right now, so really disappointed. Food at Angler and Ale was average - dry fish tacos. Day two not much better. "Relaxing" at the adult pool means listening to construction of stage for their concert tonight and furniture moving. A Fairfield inn on the water would be better value than this place. Went to dinner at the steakhouse and had to wait for someone at host stand. He said he would be right back and came back 15 minutes later. That must be what "right back" means here. Came back to our room and had to navigate through piles of dirty laundry in the halls. To top it all off, there is a charge on my credit card for over $150 more than the balance shown on my final bill. So I'll dispute the whole thing with my credit card company tomorrow. read more

Spent 1 night here .....which seemed far too long. At a rate of $700 a night-I would expect friendly and helpful staff. The pool server was great.....followed by the rudest staff at the front desk and lagoon, truly unbelievable. Room was barely mediocre for the price. The lagoon is joker, followed by overcrowded pools, lack of staff, and pretty average staff. This place is truly a paradise island. They offer something for every member of the family and accommodate to all ages. There is no need to leave the island of Hawks Cay. They have several restaurants, several pools, Tennis, Vollyball and Pickle Ball courts. The food is delicious at all restaurants and the service was perfect. If you want to swim with Dolphins, you don't have to leave Hawk's Cay because that activities is right behind the main resort pool. There is also lots of meeting spaces for company retreats or weddings. I highly recommend staying in one of the beautiful 2 bedroom Villas they have with full kitchens. read more

Went with some friends this past weekend to Hawks Cay Resort for the first time. Heard so many good things. The resort itself is beautiful ! The Marina Village 2 bedroom we stayed in (which we paid top dollar for) was very disappointing. It was not clean. It also gives a cramped feeling inside, Big furniture and rooms are very small. The day we arrived there were not enough towels for showers. We called housekeeping it took them 3 hours to deliver more towels to us, it was inconvenient as we were trying to shower and go to dinner with friends. There was No hand soap, Or bath soap in the unit. My daughter found stains on the sheet of the pull out couch. Carpet in the unit needs cleaning. I'm not sure it's even vacuumed in between stays. I just expected more from a high end resort. The amenities were very nice. Great food at the tiki. Dolphins being in such a small enclosure was also a little sad :( Unfortunately we probably will not be back. There are much nicer places for a few thousand dollars! read more

Fabulous resort. Very friendly staff and tons of stuff to do. Spent a day at the adult only pool. Had fantastic service from Radar, our server. He was on top of all our drinks and had a great attitude. Thanks radar for a fun day. read more
