My fiancé and I typically enjoy evenings at Hawks, especially sitting at the bar where we've always appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and engaging conversations with the bartenders and fellow patrons. Unfortunately, our experience last night didn't live up to the high standards we've come to expect. During our visit, another guest chose to take a FaceTime call on speaker while seated at the bar. We politely asked if he could take the call outside, and he did end the call. However, what surprised us most was the bartender's reaction--rather than supporting our reasonable request, he seemed to take issue with it and defended the disruptive behavior. While we understand there may not be a formal policy about cell phone use, especially in the bar area, there's a level of courtesy and ambiance that one typically expects at an upscale restaurant like Hawks. Taking a loud video call at the bar disrupts that environment for everyone. We've always viewed Hawks as a go-to for refined dining and excellent service, which made this encounter all the more disappointing. Up until the bartender made his comment, we were having a truly wonderful evening--the food, drinks, and overall setting were exactly what we've always loved about Hawks. It's because everything else was so enjoyable that this interaction felt especially out of place. I just can't say enough about how amazing this place is. From the ambiance, to the service, to the food-- everything was well above what I would ever expect. The staff was so accommodating and pleasant. The lighting and decor was very nice. And the food was phenomenal! We requested to sit outside, last minute, and they set up a table for us and kept checking in on us. We ordered the gnocchi, the halibut and the short rib, along with several cocktails and wine. The whole experience was exquisite. The flavors of each dish were mind blowing. The cocktails were so unique and nicely balanced and the wine was very thoughtful and delicious. All I can say is wow no I can say double wow. Chef out himself last night we had a spectacular dinner that was only made better by the excellent service our way to provide it. Our appetizers or over the top with the Aji tuna tartare, and the beef tartare. Our guests had never had either before and were hesitant to try it but once I made a small serving for them, they went back for seconds and thirds I thought we would have to order another one of each. I would be remiss if I did not give a huge shout out to Mark. There wine Sommelier His expertise knowledge and suggestions were right on target it didn't hurt. That is a extremely nice person. Had excellent gnocchi in pesto, charcuterie, the best citrus marinated olives, the even better fresh grilled asparagus with pistachios and ahi tuna tartare and steak tartare! My husband the retired chef, said the best steak tartare ever! And even the grilled forcaccia by Acme Bread in Berkeley- Outstanding!! I had high expectations for this place after reading some of the raving reviews. Walking into the place (to dine at the bar), I did not feel very welcomed but was told it was fine to eat at the bar. Sitting at the bar, I realized I was among those who knew folks, including the manager of the place so they received most, if not all the attention from the chatting to free samples of drinks etc. I understand when you know someone, you will get treated better/differently, but not to the extent where a new person feels like what am I doing here? Food was also unimpressive to me. The Gnocchi was the highlight of my food but still nothing that will blow your mind. I had the chicken entree which the best part of it was the bacon bit. Father's Day menu seemed so good but of all the meals we had here, this one disappointed the most. Tomato Salad: was the best thing of the night. Gnocchi: with lobster cream had so much potential but the sauce was on the salty side and the dish needed something vibrant/light to balance the creamy dish. Prime rib: the meat preparation was not the issue. The sauce had some sweetness (like soy flavor) that put it off. The twice baked potato filled with potato purée was creative. Halibut: the corn and green beans were perfect! The crunch and flavor of the veggies made me wanting another bite. The halibut was unfortunately dry. Dessert: I love desserts but this dark chocolate cake was dry and the ratio of cake to cream was off. Cake presentation was not impressive. Store bought cake would have been more satisfying. The tea flavored ice cream was the only good thing on the dessert plate. The bacon was trying too hard to fit in. Food was amazing, I ordered the short ribs that cook for 2 days meat was so tender and the dish was so flavorful. We also ordered spaghetti, a bacon cheeseburger, a charcuterie board, gnocchi soup, cocktails, & dessert. Made a reservation in advance and it took 20 minutes for them to get me a table. -1 star due to having to wait and there was no indoor waiting area besides a small little space by the bathroom. The lighting on the back wall/near the window is awkward because of the recessed light right above you, wish it was dimmer. We started the evening out with an appetizer, which was the pork belly and shrimp. Very tasty dish but in my opinion a little overpriced for one shrimp that was butterflied. My husband got the Alaskan Halibut and I chose the short rib. Both of those dishes were spectacular! Full of flavor and the meat was tender. I usually LOVE this place but my last experience was less than stellar. The recommended duck dish was brought out undercooked and it was SALTY. They attempted to cook it up, but it was still unpalatable. The gnocchi was good, the filet was perfectly prepared...but I was starving, I paid top dollar for this meal. I walked away with very good customer service from the manager, as he went out of his way to offer a new dish, but definitely dissatisfied with the server's recommendation. Only disappointment is the recently introduced $50 cork fee per bottle of wine. Hawk's wine cellar is impressive with vintages from around the world so I understand incentivizing purchase of in house wines, but the $50 fee left me feeling cork screwed. read more

This is one of our favorite restaurants for celebratory meals. Everything from the ambience to the service to the food is first rate. My favorite is the short rib, the meat almost melts in your mouth. The Cesar salad is probably the best I've had anywhere. I usually ask for a substitute dressing because I don't care for anchovies but it is not necessary here. It is delicious. I wish I could give this restaurant more stars. read more

THIS PLACE IS DESERVING OF A MICHELIN STAR! We enjoyed this dining experience MORE than that at the French Laundry a few months ago. This place is a must-try! We were absolutely impressed by this restaurant on our first time dining here last night. Although it has been a bit challenging to get a reservation, when we got one for a family birthday, we were not disappointed! Great staff sends you reminder calls and confirms your reservation as the date gets closer. We were warmly greeted and loved the fancy French table cloth look. You'll see nearby tables getting steam-ironed so it stays looking perfect. On the Friday night we were here, we noticed they had the outer periphery of tables filled but not all. This helped control noise levels to comfortable. There were private sections, tables, and booth available. Ambiance was beautiful, warm light. Florals we're fresh and seasonal. NOW ABOUT THE FOOD/SERVICE! -Everything came out in 3 courses. This place is very upscale. We noticed the silverware getting changed our between courses, the coordinated placement of our foods. It was similar to our experience in Paris. -The presentation of the food is beautiful, appetizing, and decorated in flower petals and sauces! Truly a delight to the eye and palate! -Complimentary potato soup was brought out. So yummy! -1st Course: Appetizers - Rosemary Olives, Charcuterie board, Tuna. We loved every bite! -2nd Course: Salad and soups. My date and I didn't order a soup. They brought out a small sweet corn soup for us and it was amazing! Next time we'll get a full sized! -3rd course: Halibut, White Dog Farm Lettuce (ordered it as my entree as I am trying to be a healthy vegetarian), and Porkchop (family's favorite). I loved my salad's presentation, it was colorful with edible flowers. Goat cheese was on the base, light vinaigrette, and it had finely sliced carrots and beets. So refreshing! -Drinks: I ordered the Respect Your Elders, it was like a light fruit blend! -Desserts: we wanted a soufflé (the waiter kindly advised it it would take 20 minutes), so while we waited for it we got beignets and coffees. The beignets were fluffy and with a caramel sauce; we agreed it was some of the best we've had! It had Happy Birthday written on the plate in chocolate, and was brought out with a candle! This is one of those restaurants that would be nice to be able to give more than 5 stars. I have only been here a few times, but each time has been such a wonderful experience. It is a bit of a hidden gem, not very near a whole lot else besides the other businesses in its lot, which is a little ways away from the other businesses in Granite Bay. I have not had one bad dish, and neither has anyone I have been with. The problem really is that there is too much good food. If you care about where your food comes from, Farm to Fork, and foods that are in season, this is the perfect place for you. One person in my group the other day got a strawberry salad, and the strawberries were from a place down the street. Talk about local! The desserts are amazing also, and I encourage anyone to get the honey cake if you have a chance while it is in season. It is one of the best desserts I have ever had anywhere. If you like to have an adult beverage with your meal, you are also definitely in luck. They have a small binder full of cocktails, wine, and other beverages that you can order. As more of a wine person myself, I have greatly enjoyed trying some wines from around the world. Also about the food, if you have a sensitivity or allergy, they ask about it on the reservation form, and the servers are fantastic about confirming who has what needs and accommodating those needs while not detracting from the overall experience. The service has always been fantastic also. I have to especially give a shout out to Cassandra who was my group's server the other day. She was so positive, and eager to share her insights on the menu and explain the restaurant to the person in our group who was here for the first time. Two of us stepped out of our comfort zones, and she was very supportive of that as well. One person in the group was a bit more casually dressed having just come out of an appointment, and she was still treated like everyone else. The ambiance is definitely more upscale, but they play more casual music, and I have felt comfortable wearing jeans when coming here. They are not super judgmental and all the staff strives to make the meal a positive experience. It is a nice treat and place to go on a special occasion. Server busy chatting we other servers. @ Another table diner could hear comments dish is too salty. We sat for 20 mins server didn't come by to take drink order, we could tell with this beginning would be very unhappy to spend money or time trying to enjoy Hawks. We got up and left. Hawks get it together if you want to be fine dining improve your service. Also, with higher prices we don't want to be "taxed" for Kitchen. No plans to return. read more

Went here because my close friend gave us a gift certificate and to celebrate my wife's birthday. Everything was very upscale - decor, service, appetizers, and entrees. Kids got the chicken tenders and cheeseburger which were probably the best I've had in a long time (eat your heart out Lazy Dog and In-n-out). The fries were nice and meaty too. My wife got the red trout which she thoroughly enjoyed. I loved my beef short rib Bourgogne. Will be back for another special occasion. Hawks is one of those places that don't typically come to mind when you think fine dining and great restaurants. This idea couldn't be further from the truth. This French Cuisine inspired establishment is a Granite Bay staple and ought to be on your list of top three restaurants in the valley. I'm not going to go into how I rate them all etc. Once you go and have the Hawks experience, you'll know. The only negative feedback is this The drinks are light. I mean, sometimes you want a little more heat on your mixed beverage. This isn't the place for that. Stick to beer and wines. The wine list is great by the way. Yes, the mix drinks were a two out of five for me. They could use a legit lobby where you can have a little breathing room while you wait for your table. The entrance has a hostess stand just about three feet inside the door. The bar is off to the left at about five feet. So, yes, overall the establishment and service don't quite match the restaurants shell. They've outgrown their skin in my opinion. Since it's small and cozy inside, the temperature is an issue. I was a tad warmer than I'd like to be given I'm dressed for winter. Overall a great place for a nice dinner and no pressure to get all fancied up to have a nice meal. I'm sure that I'll be back. Oh and try the Beignets! Effin insane ! I never get a coffee and a desert after dinner. This is a place to try this. Great coffee. Next time I go back I want to try this burger on their menu.
