My wife and I popped in for dinner on a Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by live music! Thus cheered, we were seated quickly, even though we arrived without a reservation. Water, bread and menus came quickly. Perusing them to the background mix of contemporary mellow pop (think James Taylor and Van Morrison) and old standards, we decided on the petite prime rib for the carnivore (me) and sea scallops served over risotto for my wife. We each chose flights of wine to accompany our entrees. Despite including three wines per flight, the pours were fairly generous. Our dishes were perfectly prepared and came out more quickly than we expected, considering that the place was almost full. Our server checked back just enough and took care of any special requests promptly, even offering to exchange one of the wines (out of six!) that we didn't like for something better suited to our taste. The pace was leisurely which was fine given the good food and wine accompanied by the relaxed vibe of the live music. And the prices were quite reasonable given the quality of both the food and service. A dark-ish old school atmosphere added to its charm for us Baby Boomers, but even younger diners seemed to be enjoying themselves. As for us, we highly recommend it! read more

I decided I would do something different for dinner tonight. Based on reviews I choose to give Bacchus House Bistro a try. We were greeted by a friendly and informative host. He told us their specialty was the prime rib. He further explained that the beef was local and farm feed and the vegetables were fresh. We were seated immediately and our server was Alexandra. She was an excellent server, personable, timely and not too overly available but there for whatever we wanted. I ordered the braised short ribs and my guest had the prime rib. We started off with the calamari and salad for an appetizer. Everything was delicious. The portions were generous. The braised beef melted in your mouth and my guest said the prime rib was amazing. The restaurant was decorated nicely with a wine theme, symbolic of the Roman GOD Bacchus. The establishment is bigger than it looks, it has various back rooms. Absolutely loved this little gem of a restaurant! I took my mom and we both had a wine flight which was wonderful and big pours! We shared the Brussels sprouts appetizer which was delish. Mom got the braised short ribs and I got the scallop risotto. Wow. I can't say enough about the delicious food, the presentation and the appropriate portion size! We've been eyeing Bacchus ever since we moved to El Dorado Hills but never had a chance till we randomly decided on a Sunday evening to check them out. We walked in with no reservations but were pleasantly surprised when they were able to get us in. The setup and ambiance looked a little eccentric. Huge Christmas decorations all over the place which were now being offered at a 50% clearance price. Server took our food and drinks orders. I ordered the Prime Rib & my wife got the Risotto. As I was getting ready to write this review and selecting the 2 star rating, the description for it came up as 'Could have been better", and that is exactly what is most infuriating about my experience. We were there for mother's day. $75 a person, $24 for kids. Ok, could be worse. I mean, it is the busiest day of the year but one would expect some decent food out of it. Unfortunately, over half of the items in the prix fixe menu had at least one thing that made the whole dish disappointing. The enchiladas tasted horrible, like those tex-mex plates where most of the ingredients come from a can. These people could not even prep the tortillas right, so you ended up with a blob of semi-cooked masa that should have been fried. Picture your drunk aunt's Sunday casserole dish left 3 days out. The halibut portion was laughable, under 6 ounces for sure. And the potatoes, same that they used on the kids menu, were not only under seasoned, but unevenly cooked as well. The eggs in the kids menu? Rubber. The mac and cheese- well, I am not chef Ramsay but looked microwaved- how do you explain a split sauce with pooling oil at the bottom? Next time, you are better off going to any chain restaurant for any special occasion. read more

The calamari was meaty, the deviled eggs were kind of slimmy so I don't think that was fresh, we didn't not eat it, the star of the show here is their famous prime rib. It was juicy and tender. Came in on February 14th with my date. Walking in, everyone made us feel welcome. And I mean everyone, the host, bussers, bartender, and our awesome server Tori! Tori guided us through the menu and was attentive the whole time we were there. You don't often run into great friendly service often. It's almost like a dying art. However, this place nailed it. We kicked off our evening with the grilled crab cake appetizer. Usually places make their crab cakes fried so this was a must. Delicious! I was recommended the prime rib and that did not disappoint. Cooked to perfection, juicy, and flavor rich. My beautiful date had the shrimp scampi, all the ingredients tasted really fresh. And man oh man...the bread pudding is a MUST. On the urging of a friend the hubster and I brought family with us to dinner the Bacchus House over the weekend. The loss of one star is due to me calling around 1pm to make a reservation, leaving a message and no follow up call or text. I subsequently called seven other times between 230pm and 430pm with no answers also. Mentioned in their messages is to make a reservation as they fill up quickly...which was what I was trying to do. When we arrived at 530, the time I asked for a reservation for a party of five, there was of course no reservation. Thankfully the busy part of their evening had not begun and in we were seated. Our table was in the back room with the piano. Very quaint ambiance with photos of their alcohol offerings that were featured in local magazines. Our server, Juan, was very friendly and took our drink orders, delivered bread, and then returned for our dinner selections. Four of us had the Prime Rib and the other had their Salmon. As a lover of Prime Ribs and Shirley Temples...I had to try both. The Shirley was made exceptionally well and the ratio of cherries was perfect. All of the Prime Ribs were cooked to perfection and included veggies (brussel sprouts) roasted to deliciousness and purred potatoes (read mashed). The other loss of one star is due to the lack of soup or salad with the meal. Those are extra. Other places I have patrons they have been included with the meal. The Salmon dinner looked yummy and all of it was consumed and I am told it was delightful. Mid-meal is when live entertainment began. A very nice touch and clearly there were quite a few followers enjoying the performance in the bar area. Since our dinners were very filling, sadly we passed on desserts. Next time. All in all a very enjoyable evening and when I am hankering for good food I now know the Bacchus House is nearby. Keep up the delicious work. read more

Great wine selection...tucked in an unassuming building you'd never expect the level of decor you're treated to...even if a bit over the top. But then this place is named for the god of wine and patron of the arts, so, it fits. Boy, there is a lot that could be great here, but a lot that needs to be done/adjusted to make it that way. We came in on a Saturday night for dinner. First the interior is well designed with lots of upscale ambiance and character. They do a fantastic job decorating the entire space with Halloween movie scenes. You can walk around and see how much effort was put into the decor. That was the best part of the entire evening quite honestly. The kid at the front desk was confused and disorganized. He got us seated, and we waited and waited and waited.... we finally flagged down one of the servers to find out who was responsible for our table. He said he would get him. Still waited quite a while, to the point we were just about to get up and leave, before "our server" came to our table with all the excuses of being "soooo busy" (absolutely the wrong things to say). Yes, the restaurant was filling up, but don't complain to your patrons. He got us bread and took drink orders. We told him we already know what we want for dinner, so let's get that in now. It was quite a while before the first course came out. And, a whole lot longer before the main course came out. Our server was running all around to other tables, but never came back to check in to let us know "when" the main course would come out. At one point the owner came to the table, apologized and offered us 'more bread'.... nice gesture to address the situation, but 'more bread'? really? Finally, the main courses came out. The short ribs, which are touted to be "fall off the bone tender" are actually 3 rather small pieces without the bone. The presentation was nice, I will say that. But, not a lot of food if you are there for the short rib aspect of the meal. You will be filling up on the potato puree they are nestled in, and the veggies on the side. And, yet another very long wait for the table to be cleared and get the bill so we could get out of there. Overall, I would say go for their wine and cocktails, grab some small plates at the bar and call it a day. Restaurants must work like a cohesive machine and this place needs some good training to get there. The night we were there it was a total 'cluster F'. And, an expensive one at that. read more

We were searching for restaurant that served prime rib and this popped up on Yelp. Came on a Friday night without reservations and were able to be seated right away. We ordered the appetizer brussels sprouts, house special NY Steak and Prime Rib. Both were prepared exactly to our liking and portions were good for the price. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated. We came towards the end of September and they had all their halloween decorations. There were movie posters, wall paintings, and life size statues of different monster movie characters. It was so fun to look around at all the different pieces. Calamari was deep fried and had no flavor, a dish that was prepared like any other fast food restaraunt. My concern was high prices for small servings, $34 for risotto/scallops with only 3 small ones. On top of that, the risotto had a runny sauce. My wife had a Caesar salad and had added grilled gulf prawns $8 which ended up being 3 small shrimps. Our friend had a small cup of soup that was only warm and bland, the short ribs were tasty but again a small serving. Overall the taste was ok but nothing stood out. Our family made reservations for dinner the day before Mother's Day. We got seated right away, and it wasn't too crowded or loud. There was music outside on the patio, but we didn't hear much of it since we were inside. Lauren was our server, and she was amazing. Our drinks came out quickly, and she remembered that we wanted to order a bottle of wine with dinner. They bring out bread and butter before the meal as well. I wasn't sure what to expect since the outside is pretty unassuming, but it is beautifully decorated on the inside. It doesn't feel like you're in Folsom anymore. The ambience is nice and cozy. Hmmmm, my initial review included excitement and anticipation given the great reviews and the pics were great too! The menu looked phenomenal, especially the King Salmon. I'm not sure what other venues offer King Salmon but this is definitely a big "yes" for me. Unfortunately, the doors were locked although I just saw two customers leave. This was just after 1:30pm on a Friday. Given their limited lunch hours and the fact the close at 2pm, I'm guessing they shut the doors around that time so they can close at 2pm?
