Came by specifically for the happy hour! Runs 5-6 daily! Came on a Friday evening. Two of us ordered: pazo HH $12 argiano HH $12 HH natural oysters $2 ea, ordered 3 dozen steak frites $25 pieropan HH $12 Julian was friendly taking care of us. Relatively empty in the bar area. Wine was good. Oysters were fresh (though small). Steak was cooked well too! Also Hawksmoor is a part of the Open Table Chase Sapphire Reserve, so definitely can be used for the $150 credit!

Had a business dinner hosted here in a private dinning space downstairs from the main restaurant and they put together a 4-course tasting menu. It was an impressive amount of food and everything I ate was outstanding! My favorite was the puff meat appetizers and of course the steaks cooked to perfection. Only downside is there were a few things served that I could not try due to allergies and they didn't ask beforehand so not sure if that was a miss or not from a service perspective. Drinks stayed filled, they changed out silverware with each course and overall a very nice upscale steak house. I'd like to go back to order from the main menu.

We were visiting Chicago for a birthday weekend and chose this restaurant for a birthday dinner. I love the atmosphere of this building, kinda reminds me of a speakeasy. The service was top notch. We got the cast iron filet for the table it was plenty to share for four of us. The cocktails were really good as well. This is a little pricey but a great place to go to celebrate a special occasion.

Really enjoyed our dinner at Hawksmoor! We started with the $2 happy hour oysters, which were super fresh. The charcoal-roasted scallops from the regular dinner menu were probably our favorite dish of the night--so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The Notorious B.E.E.F. burger was definitely indulgent, but not overwhelmingly so (and it's nowhere near as huge as it looks in the photos--good photography, haha!). The happy hour steak frites was also delicious and a great value at $28. Our server, Alex, was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, and they surprised us with a complimentary peanut cake and salted caramel ice cream, which was such a sweet touch. Great food, great service, and especially good value during happy hour. We'd definitely come back!

Visited London a few years ago and was unable to try the Sunday roast (it books out quick!) so was happy when a Hawksmoor opened in Chicago! Went here with a buddy and tried the Ultimate Sharing Roast for two, which is a spruced up version of their normal beef rump Sunday roast; it comes with slices of juicy rib roast, roast potatoes + cabbage + parsnips, bone marrow stuffing, a Yorkshire pudding, a cup of gravy for each person, a roasted garlic head, and when we went it also included a side of their baked cauliflower cheese, although I think now the whole set is a bit cheaper and doesn't include that any more. The beef slices were nicely rare in the middle and juicy, complemented by the super savory velvety bone marrow gravy. The Yorkshire pudding was airy and light, and while the veggies and some of the sides lacked a bit of salt, they were all roasted and prepared so well. The roasted garlic was perfectly spreadable and took all the meat and veggies up a notch. To top it all off, they brought us some warm, gooey chocolate chip cookies as a complimentary little dessert! While it's not an every week type of thing for me, the Sunday roast definitely lived up to the hype!

Had an early Father's Day celebration here with my family! Came on a Sunday to try their Sunday roast British tradition. Scallops: Get these!!! So buttery and delicious. I could've easily eaten 20 of these. Hawksmoor iced tea: Skip this. Little to no sweetness. Very watered down. Pineapple soda: Was also watered down Sunday roast: Great to experience with a group! We got 1 ultimate roast and 2 regular roasts cause they were short on the ultimate portion. The meat needed more salt but other than that it was good. The gravy is delish! Comes with stuffing and cheesy cauliflower as the sides. Sticky toffee pudding: Get! Cake is very moist and the syrup at the bottom is so good. I love toffee pudding in general! We also got the sundae form and it was equally as good!

This place was amazing, we had the chateau and the porterhouse all of it was delicious and juicy! Tiara was the best she took care of us and we felt welcomed and appreciated! I highly recommend this place to everyone!

Decided to partake in the Sunday Roast tradition at Hawksmoor Chicago after being heavily target-marketed on Instagram with lascivious reels of the bone marrow gravy being poured slow-mo over glistening beef. Needless to say, their marketing team deserves a raise. Good location in River North in an old cable car powerhouse, with a moody yet upscale aesthetic. Didn't love being sat for our Sunday brunch in the far corner next to the waitstaff service station, but the upholstered bench seating was comfortable. The Sunday Roast is the star of the show, but there are options that you can select to enhance your experience. We selected the Ultimate Sharing Roast, which comes with all the items in the per-person portion plus the Cauliflower Gratin and the Bone Marrow Stuffing, baked in-bone. The presentation is wonderful and the real highlights were the rib of beef with bone marrow gravy, the perfectly crisp roasted potatoes, the parsnips, the gratin, and the Yorkshire pudding. The cabbage could have used a little more fat and seasoning for its roasting, the bone marrow stuffing was dry and required the addition of the gravy to be even partially enjoyable, and the additional bone marrow bone, which I found to be overkill. I adored the spicy and bracing Shaky Pete's Ginger Brew during the meal, which was a perfect foil to the rather heavy, savory foodstuffs. It was a beautiful 70°+ day in Chicago and frankly, this is a colder weather kind of brunch. Save it for a rainy day! Literally! Our service was excellent throughout the meal, and we felt very well taken care of. We ended with the Sticky Toffee Sunday, an absolutely decadent treat but in a manageable portion and proportion with the ice cream. We were then treated to a little extra, a duo or chocolate oatmeal cookies that, for me at the end of this extremely filling and indulgent meal, were one toke over the line. I did enjoy the courtesy bite I took. It's a spendy way to start your Sunday, but very enjoyable. It could easily feed three (or four with modest appetites.) I do want to return to sample the other desserts and have another of those cocktails!

It was a difficult day at work, and I was craving a steak! I set out searching for a place to get some, and my eyes found themselves gravitating toward Hawksmoor, especially their happy hour menu. I went in and discovered that while the restaurant is fine dining, they do have an area upstairs which has more of a pub vibe, but with the same menu. From their happy hour menu, I ordered an Old Fashioned, a Margarita, oysters (six raw, three fried), and the steak and fries. Outside of the happy hour menu, I ordered the Steelhead Tartare and a Peanut Butter Louis for dessert. The raw oysters were fine. They were of small-to-medium size, and one or two of them had a little bit of shell. No complaints about the fried oysters. They were fried to crisp perfection, and while they didn't taste fishy, they weren't exploding with flavor, either. At $2 apiece for both, I'm going to choose to be forgiving. Where it comes to the Steelhead Tartare, this was one of the stars of the night. The fish was of absolutely stupendous quality and allowed to shine, rather than being overpowered by everything else. It was accented just the right amount by a little bit of greens, a lightly citrusy and sesame-based sauce, and teeny-tiny rings of chili. These added a very subtle heat that made me wish my taste buds weren't already seared off. The tartare was served with some well-toasted, properly thin quality bread. In terms of the main event, the steak frites were alright. The fries were underwhelming. They had a good level of salt, but otherwise seemed like they were either not made with care, or had spent some quality time under a lamp. In terms of the steak, maybe this is me being an uncultured swine, but I felt it wasn't show-stopping. It had a little bit of seasoning (salt), wasn't at all chewy, and had some good, subtle meat flavors. However, I've also had absolutely amazing melt-in-your-mouth steaks, and this wasn't it. Now, I appreciate that rump roast tends to be on the leaner side, but so does Filet Mignon, and I've had great ones that *do* melt in your mouth. For dessert, I ordered a Peanut Butter Louis, and this was the other star of the night. I can see why this is a variant of something served at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Some of the inside of the cake was crisp, while the rest was soft and decadent. This is especially helped by the peanut butter. Everything comes together in delicious harmony. It gets me nostalgic for when Reese's Cups were actually great before they went cheapo on the ingredients, but I digress. When it comes to the drinks, the Old Fashioned and the Margarita were standard. They were well-executed, but beyond that, completely unremarkable. If you *do* seek something more amazing, they have them on the regular menu, but these cost eight dollars more. It's happy hour, beggars can't be choosers. I do appreciate that these two drinks were strong, and getting out of my seat after the meal, I could definitely feel them. In terms of value, getting a solid piece of meat, $2 oysters, and strong drinks is a great deal. However, as it is with me, I start getting some accoutrements, and the price goes up pretty steeply. Set your expectations wisely. If you're seeking to get some good food in your belly at reasonable prices, Hawksmoor's happy hour is the place for you. But, if you want an elevated cocktail or elevated steak, maybe look beyond the HH. When it comes to service, I want to award all the credit. Items came out fast, and the service was kind, attentive, friendly, and the servers worked together as a team. One final note. I am not someone who cares *that* much. However, I notice, and I share. For a place that calls itself fine dining, the silverware had aggressive spotting. I realize it isn't dirt and just water spots. Nonetheless, one would hope a place that touts itself as fine dining would have their stuff together in terms of polishing. Final verdict. While there were some winners of the night, the main event left me underwhelmed. Perhaps that's by design, but given the fries, I can't be so sure. I do know that I left having paid a pretty penny with only moderate satisfaction. Thus, I don't have a feeling of dying to return, be it the HH menu or otherwise.

Great tasting food. It was absolutely delicious. We did have to wait quite a bit, close to 30 minutes for our food to come though, and no one seemed to notice or even stop by to say anything even though we were in the center of the restaurant. That was disappointing, but the delicious food made up for this for sure. Great space, not overly loud. They do absolutely get the food right!

Hawksmoor met, and exceeded, our expectations. The menu features traditional comfort food with an English flair, and everything is freshly prepared and delicious. I don't usually order French fries, but they're an absolute must here. We sampled a variety of dishes, including the burger, oysters, sloppy joes, and shrimp. Every single one was excellent, and the service was impeccable. Our server, Patrick, was incredibly attentive and even surprised us with a complimentary side we had been considering but couldn't quite decide on. Overall, a five-star experience. We'll definitely be back.

Oysters are on the menu... Next time for me for sure

Based on a Facebook post with a photo of steak frites at a special price during the happy hour from 5-6 pm, I booked a reservation. The experience was delicious and welcoming. I was in Chicago on business solo and this was, hands down, the best foodie experience. I'll definitely return the next time I'm on Chicago. Steak was perfect, red wine was well-paired, and the frites (fries) were crispy and tasty. Attentive, friendly bartenders who made everyone feel at home. Upscale, authentic British steakhouse, at reasonable prices.

Ok can we talk about the Notorious B.E.E.F?! This was truly one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. It was thick and juicy and tasted like an elevated version of a Big Mac. I was full after eating half but forced myself to keep eating because it was THAT good. Raw Oysters and bone marrow were also delicious but the burger stole the show. I highly recommend coming for happy hour. They have plenty of happy hour specials. Our waiter was also very friendly. I plan to come back for the burger

We had a big party and most orders were a bit different. Everyone lived the apps, drinks and their dishes! Everyone was too stuffed to have desert. I had a perfectly cooked strip steak. It was delicious and the flavor was great! Shared a baked potato and the wonderful Mac & cheese. Mrs A liked it better than Swift and Sons - but that is still #1 for me - although it's in the west loop and not walkable if staying on MI Ave. Don't like the 3.5% for "rising" costs...seems like that has been around since COvID. It opened as a…read morepartnership between Miami Beach's iconic Joe's Stone Crab and Lettuce Entertain You, bringing South Florida to Grand and Rush. I first went when it was still a huge, buzzy Chicago spot, and one of my most memorable dinners came after my high school graduation in 2003. I even got a speeding ticket on Lake Shore Drive with my grandmother in the back seat on the way to dinner, which still makes me laugh. Chicago was an especially fun place for Joe's to arrive. Open outcry trading was still a force, and the wealth creation around it was wild: people who had dropped out of high school could become millionaires in their twenties, while math PhDs from the University of Chicago could make fortunes in the same ecosystem. It was a golden era for hustle culture, when commerce idolized Tony Montana in a way that today is more likely to idolize Jamie Dimon or David Solomon. Death Row and Bad Boy ruled the airwaves, while Michael, Shaq, Kobe, and Allen Iverson defined the NBA. Basketball was so dominant in Chicago culture during my coming of age that I still map other things, including restaurants, to NBA teams. Joe's felt like the Miami Heat coming to Chicago in much the same way Smith & Wollensky represented the New York Knicks: each brought a recognizable piece of its hometown culture into another major city. Joe's brought real South Florida sizzle to Chicago, and it landed at exactly the right moment. Going there felt like an occasion. Florida took longer for me to understand in full. My family has roots in the state going back decades, farther north along the Atlantic coast, and I didn't visit Miami until March 2007, when my sister started graduate school in Coral Gables. That trip began my love affair with Miami and helped me understand why the original Joe's was such an institution. A close family friend's father spent time around Miami in the 1960s and 1970s. He knew local fishermen who caught stone crabs, which gave me an appreciation for the older South Florida culture around the food, separate from Joe's own history. Another Joe's memory captures an entirely different moment. Looking through my OpenTable history, my July 31, 2008 reservation at Joe's in Chicago is the earliest reservation I can find at a restaurant that is still open today. I was 23, working at UBS, preparing to move to New York while the firm was already on fire from its mortgage losses, and Lehman would file for bankruptcy just weeks later. I was broke but wildly aspirational, dreaming about dinners at Balthazar, begging my way past the doors at Cain and Tenjune, hoping to drink for free, and trying to meet women comically far out of my league. Through all of those memories, the restaurant itself has been remarkably consistent. The stone crab claws are incredible, the seafood is excellent, and Joe's holds its own among Chicago's serious steakhouses. The room has traditionally felt a little more formal than Miami, with bow ties, polished service, and a darker old-school steakhouse rhythm, while still being genuinely welcoming. Finish with the key lime pie. Years later, my wife and I held our wedding reception at RPM Seafood, another Lettuce restaurant, then ate at the original Joe's during our honeymoon in Miami during COVID days later, which felt like a fitting circle back. In sheer range of venues, repeatability of quality and atmosphere, and consistency of hits, Lettuce is the gold standard in Chicago, with some of that same reach in Vegas and DC. I've been extraordinarily privileged in my exposure to hospitality, and I still repeatedly admire Rich Melman's model, taste, and execution, now carried forward by the next generation of the family. Joe's is a prime example: world-class, durable, unmistakably Chicago, and absolutely somewhere I want to return next time I'm in town with some dough to spend. While Joe's may not be French, this place still earns my highest marks: très bien!

Wow! The first time…read morewe came to the Chicago location of Hugo's Frog Bar, we had the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake and it was amazing - best I'd ever had. That was 12 years ago. Since then, I've had crab cakes all over the U.S. and Hugo's remained my gold standard. Tonight, 12 years later, we returned to Hugo's on Rush Street downtown Chicago. We had a 6 pm reservation on a Monday night. We were given the option to eat in the special Elevator Car, so we chose it. It was a bit tight getting into the bench seating but once in, we were quite comfortable and it was really quaint. I'm glad we chose it. Our server tonight was Stephanie O and she was amazing. So knowledgeable, so pleasant and very accommodating. We told Stephanie we planned to take it a bit slow, starting with cocktails. She took our cocktail orders and we took our time enjoying them, admiring our special Elevator Car and pondering dinner options. Of course, a Crab Cake was definitely happening! Stephanie checked in with us from time to time and when we were ready, we asked her to drop a Crab Cake order. Oh my - it was amazing, just like the last time! Just enough breadcrumbs in it to hold it together. Baked, then seared on both sides on the flat top and served with their house made remoulade. For us, this menu item and a service as great as it was from Stephanie and the rest of the team was enough of a reason to come to Hugo's. After we'd finished sharing the Crab Cake, Stephanie stopped by with the fresh fish options platter to explain each one to us, how it would be prepared and what it would be like. We nearly went for the Snapper but dropped back to our original thought of trying their Shrimp De Jonghe along with a dinner salad. So glad we did as the Shrimp De Jonghe was really tasty and just enough food. The salad and shrimp meal were both kitchen-split for us. Nice touch - thanks team! I have to add that we've had Shrimp De Jonghe somewhere else and we recall it as not being as good as Hugo's. I like how their breadcrumb on the shrimp here was less a breading and more of a dusting. I'd like to mention the rest of the staff we saw in action. The hostesses were quite pleasant, found our reservation and seated us with pleasure. The table team from the water guy, to him and others clearing completed items was excellent. The chef or one of the cooks brought out our split Shrimp De Jonghe. That was a nice touch. And of course our server Stephanie - amazing. Great meal tonight at Hugo's and over the top service from everyone. We will be back - maybe even this week.

Available only in the bar area, we were able to find a table for two inside by the windows, in spite of it being very packed. Our server was quick to approach our table, even though hubs had wandered over to the bar to order. After I summoned him back, we ordered a couple of Stellas, a Filet Slider and Baked Goat Cheese; each item was $5 on the HH menu. A few minutes later, Hubs waved over our server again to order 4 oysters, which were BOGO during HH. Upon her suggestion, he chose the smaller East Coast oysters. He told me they were really good and he was happy with his choice. I had two good bites of the filet slider & was delighted at how delicious it was. The piece of meat was quite large, especially for $5! Thick & juicy, it was cooked perfectly medium rare. The slider was plated with lots of crispy string fries that were very tasty. Our other app, the baked goat cheese, was served atop a skillet of tomato sauce with four pieces of toasted bread. This was also a delicious plate. Service was very on-point, and we never felt rushed, even after Happy Hour ended. At some point, the pianist arrived & we enjoyed a rousing selection of yacht rock tunes as we finished our beers. My favorite piece of ambiance was the steampunk-powered ceiling fans, even though they probably did very little to circulate the air. The decor was vintage travel, which I loved! I'll definitely return to Hugo's again, at least for Happy Hour, the next time I'm in Chicago's Gold Coast area.
